The only redeeming part of the Briers was the spa until a few years ago, now it is just as bad. My grandson has on two occasions bought me gift certificates for the spa. Every time I called to make an appointment (on at least for different occasions) they did not have the staff to accommodate my request to have a massage and facial on the same day. Their inability to keep staff made my request fir the same day service impossible. After the fourth phone call I requested that they refund the amount of the gift certificates, which the former manager agreed to but failed to follow through. Now they are refusing to honor their former managers promise stating that I can use the gift certificates for food or to stay there. NO I will not do either. I honestly am thinking that I will give these certificates to homeless people as they do need a place to sleep and eat and that's about all the Briers is good for. I repeat do not even visit this place.

DO NOT STAY THERE EVEN IF THEY PAY YOU MONEY. We checked in on Saturday and an East Indian Women with the worst customer service made us wait over 15 minutes in the freezing lobby trying to find us a room, funny as looked like we were the only ones there. The Big East Indian guy who seemed to be the owner and could barely speak English kept starring at us, what a pervert !!!. The place smells of rotten ethnical food, pool and spa that do not work, no restaurant as advertised. Garbage every where in the staircase, washrooms and very poor lighting. Dirty rooms but even if they were clean and had hot water BED BUGGS are a NO NO NO. The mattresses and bedding were at least 20 years older and smelled bad. We later went to the local pub for dinner and were informed by locals that the Health Department had just this week shut down the restaurant and the pool of the resort as the owners did violate multiple health and safety regulations plus all the employees and management of the resort left due to unpaid wages or mistreatment. Sounds like a strange story but that is actually existing and right on the Lake Simcoe.

Facilities are a bit dated. But they do have a few things that stand out. They have a large field with baseball diamond, soccer field and another field we used for ultimate Frisbee. They also have a beach volleyball court and 2 basketball courts. There is a nice walking trail as well. The rooms are simple and clean, we stayed in the main building so it is dorm style. Each room has its own washroom with 2 single beds, which are too soft for me. Food wise, it is basic and nothing to worry or get excited about. For dinner we had a roasted quarter chicken with potato wedges and carrots and peas. Bland so we had to use a ketchup. Personally, I think their allergy rule is quite strict. You cannot bring Any outside food or drinks into the premise as it may contain ingredients that people might be allergic too. This includes snacks and chips or fruits or candy. So all food has to be provided by them.

We stayed at the Best Western Mariposa with our family during our youngest son's hockey tournament,…read moreand this was by far the worst hotel experience we have ever had. We are a team with younger children, and parents made a point of supervising kids closely, following curfews, and being respectful to staff. Despite this, we were treated with suspicion and hostility from the moment staff realized we were a hockey team. On our first night, the hotel offered an empty room for kids to play mini sticks. The following day, when kids asked again, we were offered a different room that was dirty and had broken glass on the floor. Staff were notified, but no apology or concern was shown. That evening, while supervised kids were using the pool, another family (not part of our group) opened an unlocked side door and ran into the snow before jumping back into the pool. Some of our kids followed. There were no warning signs and the door was not locked. The pool was immediately closed by staff without testing water levels, and parents were falsely accused of children urinating in the hot tub. By 8:30 p.m., all children were in their rooms with parents. The following morning, our team manager received a rude email accusing our children of running the halls late at night and harassing guests--none of which occurred. The situation escalated further the next evening when staff aggressively confronted parents at the pool and accused a guest of having alcohol without cause. When another parent calmly attempted to speak to the desk manager to de-escalate, the staff member pushed past her and retreated to her office, where police were called. The OPP attended and confirmed there was no disorderly behavior. Everyone was allowed to remain for the night. Beyond staff behavior, the hotel itself was dirty and poorly maintained. Our room had a dead bug and personal items left behind, public areas were not well kept, and breakfast service was slow and inattentive. We would not recommend this hotel to families, sports teams, or anyone expecting professional service or basic cleanliness.

WIFI (which was quick) and parking were free. There is a restaurant in the hotel, the Grape and Olive Wine & Martini Bistro, but there are lots (Swiss Chalet, McDonald's, etc.) within walking distance ... I had supper last night at Kelsey's, which is across the street. I had breakfast in the restaurant in the hotel this morning ... two eggs, peameal bacon, toast and homefries ($8) and a glass of milk. It was good! I'd stayed here again.

The hotel has a lounge, restaurant and a rooftop to hang out and eat/drink at. There are also a lot of options on main street just out from the hotel. The hotel use to be a post office, originally built-in 1914, and they incorporated that nicely into little touches inside the hotel. When you walk in you are in the lobby/restaurant area. The front desk is right there. During my whole stay I received great customer service. I surprisingly arrived on their grand opening day. They had a soft launch open two months previous. For being a new hotel my stay went smoothly. If you walk in from main street you are on the second floor. There is a parking lot/garage on the first floor. It seems that this option is the only accessible option since the second floor/main street entrance has stairs leading to the door. I stayed on the third floor - room 305 to be exact. I looked out onto main street. The elevators on each floor have their own room, so to my knowledge there are no hotel rooms next to a noisey elevator. The door leading to the hotel rooms is a heavy door and slightly loud though. My room was away from the elevator room door so it didn't bother me. One thing I love about this hotel is they used thick doors and the walls were thick and made well. I didn't have a problem hearing any hotel neighbors. I did hear noise from the street below, usually from the nightlife, but it never lasted too late. I do sleep with a white noise app so that helped. My room was done very well. I loved the decor and ambiance. It was high quality. It took me a minute to figure out the blinds haha, but I was very happy with it. My favorite part was the bed and pillows - it was so comfortable. Usually hotel pillows (even high end hotels) aren't that great in my opinion because they sink or her squished easily, but the Postmark hotels are the perfectly confortable. I slept super well here. Last note - they have a water station on the second floor down the hallway of the rooms. They supply pitchers and ice buckets. I loved having pitchers of water for my stay. I would definitely stay here again!
