Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Harford. It boasts a lively and family friendly atmosphere without being chocked full of kids. The service is exceptional, and the owner could not be more genuinely friendly. Most importantly, the food is off the charts. This was a dinner with a large business group. Great experience and I would recommend to someone downtown in Hartford. Heard about the garlic bread ahead of time, so that was necessary. We also tried the sushi appetizer and calamari. I can't recommend the sushi roll. Obviously out of their wheelhouse. The calamari was a bit overcooked, so it did not quite have that nice soft buttery consistency you get when it is absolutely on point. The garlic bread is a garlic bomb. Fresh garlic, so not overly stringent like powdered. For the main dish, I ordered a steak. Sure, it is an Italian restaurant and the meals looked awesome, but a filet makes a great meal. I did top it off with potato lasagna, which is very unique. A side of asparagus, which was perfectly cooked rounded things off. I order a montepulciano for our end of the table, but it was a blend that had a good deal of Sangiovese, which is beautiful with the steak. For desert, I got a cappuccino and tiramisu. If there is any negative, the place is a bit small for the amount of people they pack in, which means it can get a bit loud. Not an issue for our group, but I can imagine it lessens the appeal for a quiet romantic dinner. read more

Big hunk of warm, homemade bread...plus a small container of a homemade bread spread. It was copper colored, had hints of garlic and a nice hint of "smoke". Hard to describe since my T buds only have a range of 2 octaves. It was really different and quite good. Another really nice surprise was 2 biscottis in a separate bag. Among the best I've ever devoured in my entire lifespan. So good, I called the owner from home and mentioned this to him. They are also homemade (his wife). The Rose Pasta was a very generous serving. So I listened to my doctor (this time) and saved half (this time). The amalgamation of the sausage, shrooms, spinach and four cheese tortellini, in a light tomato cream sauce, was fabulous. And there were also sun-dried tomatoes! A perfect blend of textures and flavors. The sauce was both subtle AND robust at the same time....trust me. Prices are more than reasonable for what you get.....quality and quantity. We stopped here during a dinner break on our girl's weekend road trip. We were so thankful that the staff was happy to quickly find seating for all 5 of us on a busy Thursday night. We sat in the back room so we had lots of privacy and could chat and laugh as loud as we wanted. The wine was excellent and all of our food came to the table quickly. We highly recommend this delicious spot! My friend and I shared meals and here's what we ordered: apps: tuna with fried nori and Greek salad. Salute is my favorite Hartford area Italian restaurant. It's on the edge of Bushnell Park and next to a parking garage. The restaurant will gladly validate your ticket and you'll save 50% off your parking. Best to go during the week or at lunchtime, when it's less busy, otherwise I'd recommend that you make a reservation, although they will accommodate even during busy times, if possible. There are gluten free options for those that need it, but then you'll miss out on the bread and flavored butters, which for me are an essential part of the meal. The owner is usually there at night, and is super attentive. A quick story to underscore my previous assertion - about 4 years ago, during the pandemic, I ordered a lunch through a delivery service that I won't name, but let's just say that they are not "uber" anything. In fact, they screwed up and didn't deliver the order at all (after pickup, the driver tracking showed him parked ima lot near the restaurant (I would assume that he was likely enjoying my meal). This "not uber" delivery service said I had to contact the restaurant, which I did. The owner apologized profusely and said he would drive the order to me. I couldn't allow that, so after some finagling, I convinced him to keep it in the fridge until I could pick it upper after work. When I stopped by, the owner insisted that I take a gift card in the amount of the cost of the meal and wouldn't allow me to pay for it. I found out that when the delivery service messes up, they do not get reimbursed. Consequently, the restaurant soon after stopped using the delivery service that was not very "uber." This place is adorable. It's right out of the pages of a Midwest magazine, touting a welcoming, warm, rustic Italian meal. Is it wildly authentic with artisanal ingredients blah blah blah? No. It's probably three levels above a chain. But something about it is delicious and endearing. No one dresses up, it's so "come as you are" and that's my favorite kinda place. Great outdoor seating right by the park. Delicious fresh biscotti given to you at the end. The sausage in rose pasta is divine. The garlic cheese bread is exactly that. I made reservations for Valentine's Day as I saw they had great reviews and I'm on a mission to explore everything Hartford has to offer. There isn't much street parking so your best bet is to park in the structure next door. They do validate a couple of bucks and I believe it ended up costing us $4-6 for parking. For appetizers, we got the highly praised garlic bread and rightfully so! It was crispy but cheesy and garlicky. Does it get better than that? We also got the calamari which was crispy and had breaded pieces of red peppers which can be spicy but still very good. I also ordered a sidecar cocktail which was nice and strong. For our entrees, we got the Ragu Bolognese and Chicken Gnocchi with a pesto sauce. Holy smokes are the portions HUGE! We wished we would've just shared a plate but we got to try two amazing dishes. For dessert, we got the chocolate lava cake. *insert drooling emoji* Food and service was easily 5 stars. However, the tables are so close together for a party of 2, I had to knock off a star. Salute is amazing! The food is the best you can get in downtown Hartford and holds up even compared to other cities. The prices are low for the quality. The dining space is comfortable if a little crowded. Beware that its quality is well know. And so you often need a reservation for dinner. Try stopping by for their lunch instead. There is a discount for downtown residents as well. The best part about Salute is the service. They have very low staff turnover. This means every time you go it is the same great team. They remembered my name after only my first visit. A hidden treat is their sushi rolls. For a main course I love their bolognese. Be prepared to take home left overs as it is very filling. Happy hour 3-9 at the bar and there was a great flow of people through out the evening. I enjoyed seeing people come solo as well as in groups. There is an outdoor patio that was in use but just a little too cool that night for me. The key lime martini was perfect, not too sweet. Quite by accident we ended up at Salute on a Tuesday afternoon for my birthday. The host found us the perfect two person spot at the bar and left us in very good hands with Rachel. Rachel absolutely took care of us starting off by providing a few wine samples that prevented my husband from making a poor wine choice and then guiding us through the menu and checking in often. Had calamari and the crab cake as a starter - were both just fine, could've had a bit more flavor. As entrees, we ordered the pasta a la vodka with chicken and a ribeye. The pasta lacked flavor and tasted like any other red sauce pasta you could make it home, was a little surprised the sun dried tomatoes didn't add a little more flavor. Chicken was also not seasoned at all, just diced up and cooked. My bf's ribeye was also lacking flavor and the vegetables that accompanied it looked like they were previously frozen - just sliced carrot and peas. Ambiance is laid back - doesn't necessarily have a fine dining feel, more casual. Our table was sticky even after being wiped down twice. AC also wasn't working and it was a pretty hot day, decided not to have more drinks or dessert because of this. Service was good and attentive and we were barely kept waiting. I really can't say enough about this place. And a lot of people agree because every time I'm there, even if on a weekday, it is PACKED. My team and I made reservations for a Tuesday night and got seated right away when we got there. From there, they continued to exceed our expectations. Our waiter was really patient when we asked questions about our dishes, let us make substitutions, and even offered to go back and check with the kitchen on some of the changes. I got my normal pasta ala vodka and it was huge. Definitely had enough for leftovers. Others in my group got the chicken parm, shrimp fra diablo (which definitely packed some heat!) And pork tenderloin to name a few. Everything ended up tasting delicious. For dessert we shared the chocolate lava cake (delicious!) and the carrot cake (unfortunately not that great. My husband and I went here for an early pre valentines dinner on a Thursday. Everyone in the restaurant got to know us from the front, to everyone that helped at the table. We felt like they knew us.
