pesto gnocchi
Morgan B.

Spent a friend's birthday here and had a solid experience. We also went after a basketball game, so definitely recommend having a reservation on busier days in Hartford. The pasta was delicious and portions were very generous, enough for leftovers for sure. I would definitely return if I'm looking for Italian food in the area. The servers were also very kind and relatively quick, acknowledging our birthday celebration which made the experience feel more personal. The only thing I was a bit disappointed with was the fact that we were sitting about a foot from a sliding door, a small oversight that made a big difference in the winter!

My wife's birthday dinner was amazing!

We told them we had a concert to get to (up the street) so they sat us quickly. Recommended a few plates that were quicker to make and the food was amazing! Drinks were great also. This isn't Olive Garden. The price is very reasonable for the quality of the experience!

This place was incredible! My son found this on the way from New Haven to Hartford. Calamari, pesto chicken gnocchi, chicken Parmesan and their special Mac and cheese was all excellent! Great flavor! Huge portions! Fair prices. Wish we had one of these in Fresno.

Wow wow wow. What an amazing experience at Salute. Stopped here before seeing a show at the theater nearby. Didn't think we would need reservations for a Tuesday evening. Walked in and it was packed! A whole section was closed off for a private event. The host asked us right away if we were seeing a show and sat us in the bar area. We were quickly attended to and orders taken. Good happy hour deals. We all got different drinks and each one was superb. Warm, fresh, crusty bread. The entrees came out so quickly and blazing hot. We couldn't believe the portion sizes. Pasta Al la vodka was great. Pesto chicken gnocchi was delicious. Sister in law has celiac and the staff was very accommodating to make sure she didn't get cross contamination. We were checked on frequently, staff was SO friendly. They quickly packed up our leftovers so we could make it to the show. They even gave us a little dessert for my husband who I said was going to get my leftovers! 10/10 service and food. Can't wait to come again.

A classic staple in Hartford. The owners used to own Hot Tomatoes back in the day IKYKY and have taken some of their recipes with them. Went on a recent evening after work and check out these happy hour deals! The calamari was crispy and the well seasoned. Of course I had to get the garlic bread and it was just as good as I remember it to be. Great place to go after work for all my Hartford peeps.

Cheesy garlic bread

A smiling Jimmy greets every patron! I believe he is owner, and that extra gesture is really appreciated. We are also provided with a bag of homemade biscotti when we left. Those touches separate a good restaurant from a great one! The shrimp pasta had spicy sausage and just enough heat. The highlight of the food was the cheesy garlic bread. Do not pass that up! When in downtown Hartford this should be a go to spot before theater. They take note you have a show and make sure to get you out on time.

Perfect cosmo.

Incase you missed the memo this is where you can find amazing hot tomato garlic bread and tortellini rose..., nuff said. Oh and btw - if you attend post show like Hartford stage - show discounts applied. AND you will most likely see cast post show , coool stuff and ask for Betsy. She makes the absolute best Cosmopolitan this side of Manhatten.

Food-10/10 Service- 9/10 Ambiance- 9/10 I would DEF return if I'm in the Hartford area. This establishment made my short trip a wonderful experience. The espresso martini was the perfect way to end a tasty meal. The menu was the definition of short and sweet. The food was tasty ! Try the sun dried tomato butter OMG I haven't had anything like it!!! My only advice is don't sit in an area where you aren't seen. :-) Would def recommend. 2 thumbs up

Erica was our server and she was so fantastic with her recommendations and extra lemons and cherries for our kiddos. The food was fantastic and the atmosphere was so nice and welcoming.

Salute I came to Salute with work colleagues and we were very happy with our choice! This place has a nice atmosphere, and the wait staff and owners take a lot of pride in their service, which makes for a great dining experience. They had plenty of great Italian menu options as well as salads. Their garlic cheese bread is a great item to start off the meal. The food was outstanding and our party all enjoyed their meals. I had the chicken parmesan, which was a great size and perfectly prepared. They also have a nice wine and cocktail list. I had the basil bourbon smash, which was good although it could have used some larger ice cubes. My only recommendation is to make reservations in advance if there is a UConn game in town! We were lucky they were able to fit us in before the rush. But it was a great experience!

When you go to an Italian a restaurant the wise move is to order what they are known for...That being said I should have ordered pasta. I didn't of course. I chose the short rib with sour cream mashed potatoes. I swapped out the peas and carrots for sautƩed spinach. It was a safe choice. The short rib was very tender. It didn't really stand out with flavor but it filled me up. The mashed potatoes were very creamy, no flavor but mixed in with the gravy from the short rib helped. The spinach had no flavor although it was supposedly cooked with garlic. I used salt and pepper and I asked for some white vinegar. That helped immensely. My friend ordered the pasta ala vodka which is her favorite. It did look mouth watering with a nice heap of Parmesan on top. The desert I had was the cookie crumb(?) gelato. I think that's what it was called. It was hands down amazing. I should have gotten two scoops and started and ended with that:) What I personally enjoyed the most there was the customer service. Michelle was our waitress and she was such a delight. She really went out of her way to make sure my friend enjoyed her birthday dinner. She was really a sweetheart and was accommodating when we had request. The bar tender or manager was wonderful also. As soon as I walked in the door I gave him the name the reservation was made under and he remembered talking on the phone with me. I had a drink I really wanted and I showed the recipe to him because he was behind the bar at the time. He didn't have one of the main ingredients but that didn't stop him from making it and substituting another ingredient to make it for me. The drink was delicious and he personally brought it to my table. Honestly everyone who from the bartender, waitress, and the staff that brought our actual food to the table were absolutely wonderful. I would absolutely go back there again, but I think I will order pasta the next time.

Pasta Ala Vodka

More expensive than Boston's North End, but not quite as good. Garlic Cheese Bread: This is definitely delicious, but then again, so is all garlic bread. It pretty much tastes as advertised, not too different from cheesy garlic bread in other restaurants. Pasta Ala Vodka: Rigatoni had a nice al dente chew to it. Vodka sauce was great. This was my favorite dish! Salmon: This was not as worth it. The salmon was fine, cooked to be juicy and flavorful. The rest of the dish seemed uninspired. Just a pile of spinach and a pile of potato lasagna. The potato lasagna sounded cool, but it really was just a pile of thinly sliced potatoes and a bunch of cheese. Cool concept, but it felt lacking.

I'm back! The restaurant is located on 389 Main St. in East Hartford, CT. It's been a few months…read moresince I was last here (December) which is a crime. Carmine's is a fresh from scratch kitchen that is ALWAYS open. Their appetizers, pastas, entrees and desserts combine old-world traditional Italian flavor with a modern flair for presentation, and the freshest ingredients around. Menu staples like rigatoni bolognese, fettuccine carbonara and chicken Milanese are coupled with unique recipes like chicken ala vodka and toasted almond cake. They've staffed the kitchen with a dream team of chefs and you can tell instantly! They also do parties, catering and online ordering/delivery. The restaurant is well known for its live music. There is never a cover and parking is always free. This place and produces absolutely amazing food and drinks. I have noticed quite a few menu changes. The Happy Hour menu has expanded. It's also no longer all day Monday. The main menu no longer has prices on featured drinks (although that's the tre d these days). Note that the Bar Bites menu is available open to close! The Main Menu looks the same although there is a new Wine List (that's a first here). The music is very pleasant and the right volume level. It's always a big cool in here too. For my first drink, I'm having a Pratt N Whiskey. This is made with Woodford Reserve Bourbon, sweet vermouth, red wine and sour mix. It's definitely an unusual drink. It's not garnished, but it tastes great. The wine sticks out for sure. It's clearly a shaken drink not often found with a whiskey component except for maybe Whiskey Sours. For my first item, I'm having the House Salad made with spring mix, basil, tomatoes, julienned (thinly sliced) carrots, cucumbers and house red wine vinaigrette dressing. This is a big portion! I love this dressing! This tastes great! For my next item, I'm trying the Carmine's Secret Tenderloins. These are off of Carmine's "Secret Menu." They are pan seared, caramelized chicken tenderloins, made with wine, olive oil, cracked black pepper (dried black peppercorns broken into coarse, uneven pieces), kosher salt (a coarse, flaky salt named for its use in the Jewish koshering process of drawing blood from meat), shredded Parmesan and a very special "secret sauce." I'm curious as to what this sauce tastes like. Wow! Nice presentation! These are good! I love that sauce! There's a good crowd in here (20 people). Only one worker (bartender and server). She's damn good at what she does! For my next drink, I'm having a Connecticut Cosmo. This is made with Litchfield Vodka, Wild Moon Cranberry, Triple Sec and lime juice. This vodka is the Gold Medal Winner 2018 & 2019 at the New York International Spirits Competition. Silver Medal Winner at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition! Our Gluten-Free Batchers' Vodka is distilled from luscious corn grown during the beautiful summer months in Somers, CT. We distill 4 ¾ times and use a gravity-fed charcoal filter that takes 12 hours to filter 100 gallons. The longer the vodka sits on the charcoal, the more impurities are removed, which creates an incredibly smooth taste. Bottled at 80 proof. It is impeccably clean, slightly sweet, velvety smooth mouthfeel and sweet buttery overtones. It's smooth with a warm finish with subtle notes of sweet ripe corn at the end. I actually sat down next to the owner of the Distillery at a wine pairing dinner at Flemings in West Hartford about 7-8 years ago. This looks nice! Wow! This has great flavor! For my next item, I'm having the Rigatoni Matinara. Rigatoni is a large, tube-shaped pasta with ridges on the outside and straight-cut ends. Marinara sauce is a tomato sauce usually made with tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and onions. I don't eat pasta all that often. This will serve as my appetizer before I hit the main course. This is a BIG portion! It is very good! For my entree I'm having the Pan Seared Salmon which is "hand cut" salmon with zesty orange glaze served over mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables (broccoli). Add LOTS of crushed red pepper. Nod that's "LOTS." This is spicy! My kinda spicy! The plate is nice and hot! I like the presentation. This tastes great! What a great meal here!

I can't believe we were charged for bread - twice! We got a small half of a loaf (not even as big…read moreas a half grinder roll) and asked for more. Never have I ever paid for bread in a restaurant and we were asked if we wanted bread - no mention of we had to pay extra for it. Side salads are an extra charge too. If you get a chicken meal expect it to have a very charred taste to it. We found the food to be middle of the road and not very big portions considering we usually take food home from other places. There was a birthday party going on in the restaurant, not in a separate room. Not that it bothered us, but it was extremely loud in there and it seemed to bother the table next to us. Don't expect a quiet dinner in this place. Getting the attention of the waitress was impossible. I had to stand at the bar and wait to pay our bill. The party had the entrance blocked because they were filming and we had to exit through a side entrance, which didn't bother us, but not the best from a safety point of view. Do we recommend the place - no. Will we go back - no.

There's a good selection of food and quality cocktails. It's only 3PM-5PM so get here early. My sister also likes their GF pizza (with pepperoni). The pizza kitchen is an open one. The music is definite oldies in here. Disco Inferno! For my first drink, I'm having an Our Negroni made with Beefeater Gin, Campari, sweet vermouth and San Pelligrino Arancitta. Pelligrino Arancitta is an unusual ingredient. Sanpellegrino Aranciata is the original sparkling orange drink from Italy. I've never seen this in a Negroni other than at here. It is served quickly, garnished nicely with an orange wheel and a rosemary leaf (also odd). What a nice touch! They are quick to drop off a complementary ice water. For my first food item, I'm having the Chopped Antipasto Salad made with to subs lettuce, provolone cheese, Genoa salami, string beans (that's new), tomatoes, chick peas (that's different) and Parmesan cheese. They use cloth napkins and metal utensils. That's always a good sign. This is a good sized portion! I remember it as being much smaller before (I could be wrong). All the ingredients are quite fresh. It tastes great! For my next food item, I'm having the Our Meatballs made with parmigiano and garlic bread crumbs (per the Happy Hour menu). These are really the MY AUNT JOSIE'S MEATBALLS (just one less) made with stracciatella, mozzarella, toasted breadcrumbs and EVOO (per the Dinner Menu). These came out quick! They are piping hot! Oh yeah! These are delicious! Sauce is great too! For my next drink, I'm having The Spicy Mango. This is made with Tanteo JalapeƱo tequila and Patron Mango Citrone. I'm hoping for a fresh jalapeƱo garnish. Let's see if they have it. Nope! But, the bartender offered a Tajin rim. Good idea! There a good crowd in here and it's nut even 4PM yet. The bar is full including the two high tops. This tastes great! It's nicely garnished with a lime wheel and has a huge Tajin rim. It's has a little kick to it too! For my next food item, I'm having the Grilled Artichoke. This is made with crushed hazelnuts, lemon and Parmesan cheese. This is definitely a unique item you can't get anywhere else. These is good! I love the salad! Love those hazelnuts! What a unique dish! For my next food item, I'm having the Roasted Prosciutto Wrapped Dates. These are made with Gorgonzola cheese, toasted pumpkin seed and raw Brussels sprouts salad. These are great! Crunchy on the outside. I move that salad! Wow! They're playing Born to Be Alive by Patrick Hernandez. I've never heard that in a restaurant. He's a one hit wonder! For my next drink, I'm having the Venetian Martini. This is made with Absolut Citron, Aperol, Prosecco and lime juice. It's is nicely garnished and tastes great! It is strong too. You can taste the alcohol let me yell you! For my next item, I'm having the Happy Hour Cheeseburger (cooked medium) made with lettuce, tomato, provolone and a brioche bun. I'm not leaving here without it! This burger is huge! I love dill pickles and ketchup! This is delicious! For my last drink, Mercedes is making me a Mercedes Manhattan. Look at this masterpiece! A Manhattan is a classic, spirit-forward cocktail made with whiskey (traditionally rye or bourbon), sweet vermouth, and Angostura bitters, stirred with ice and served in a chilled glass, typically garnished with a maraschino cherry or lemon twist. It's known for its balanced, complex flavor, with rye providing spice and bourbon offering sweetness, and variations exist using different spirits or vermouths.Ā This is absolutely perfect! It's perfect garnished with an orange peel, two maraschino cherries and a sprig of rosemary. It is perfectly balanced. There simply is no better than this. It has a hint of chocolate in it. I like the square ice cube to slow the dilution process. They just played Waterloo by ABBA. I haven't heard that in decades! I just noticed that the lights dim as the night goes on. For dessert, I'm having the Vanilla Creme Brulee with a chocolate chip cookie. Hold the phone here! This was served in UNDER ONE MINUTE! I'm told they just torch it. I'm impressed! I think that's a record! I love the confectionery sugar sprinkle! Damn! This is good! No vanilla bean on the bottom (not everyone does that). Wait! I see it. It's on the edges! This is delicious! It's a good portion for sure! The last item is a GF pepperoni pizza for my sister. This is a rare treat she gets once (or twice a year). This place is the best!

"Rose darling come to me All I ask of you…read moreIs make my wildest dreams come true" (Steely Dan) You probably don't need a PHD in linguistics to surmise that the Italian words "La Rosa" translates into the English words "The Rose". And if your wildest dreams happen to revolve around Italian comfort foods and well stacked sandwiches, well, do I have a place to make those wildest dreams come true for you! La Rosa is your quintessential Italian deli with dozens of grinders, paninis, wraps, salads, soups and a daily hot bar of pasta and chicken entrees. We ordered a grilled Panino Melenzani ($12) with eggplant, tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil and olive oil. It was grilled right in front of our eyes, so it was as fresh as could be. It had plenty of tender sliced eggplant, yummy cheese and fresh tomatoes. I went with my usual, an Italian Combo (half size for $14) stacked a mile high with Ham, Turkey, Genoa, Mortadella, Capicola, and Provolone with lettuce, tomato, onions, and peppers on a fresh loaf of Italian bread. It was superb, and the portion size was so generous that it lasted me for three lunches. As we were paying, we spied some home-made cookies by the register and grabbed an oatmeal and a chocolate chip to take home. Everything ran $32 for a ton of wonderful Italian goodness. We didn't get a chance to check out the hot bar. It wasn't open today because LaRosa's Marketplace was closing early for personal reasons. But I promise you, the next time we visit we'll leave with one of their chicken or pasta entrees. We love our Italian delis, and LaRosa's has immediately shot up into our top tier.
