Enjoyed eating here, especially after a tiring humid day. Tacos were pretty rich in flavor and the complimentary array of sauces it came with was delicious. We got shrimp, carne asada, and al pastor tacos, each were about $7. Notably those caramelized onions in the carne asada tacos were so sweet and paired so well! Love love that you can order from any of the venues, it's like a food hall but with table service. The ceviche and sushi were my favorites while my hubs loved the tacos. The first night we came here, we hit the happy hour drinks, great cocktails and the service was great. The second time we came...not sure what happened but it's like our server forgot to put in my order, my husband got his almost immediately and 30 minutes later, with no check ins from our server, my meal finally came out. It was a sour experience... I love the seating areas at Salum, so many options from tables to comfortable lounging for drinks. Great for couples or groups, if it wasn't for the service the second time around, it would be getting 5 stars. read more

It didn't start filling up until 1pm and it was rainy, so there was nothing else for people to do but eat! We ordered the following: -2 tacos al pastor ($85 pesos each) -2 tacos campechanos ($120 pesos each): these had steak and pork as the meat and guacamole on top. -alhambre with steak and cheese and corn tortillas ($360 pesos) -Berliner passion fruit beer and stout Overall, I've had better tacos at the hotel by the airport here in Mexico and in Washington, DC. They weren't anything special, so given the price, I wasn't super impressed. I found the alhambre to be the best out of everything we ordered. Salum houses most of the eateries and party arenas in the Vidanta Grand Mayan area. You'll find about 10 different restaurants and plenty of places for large or small gatherings. The waitstaff is all super friendly in this area and the food was pretty good. My least favorite tacos were the Al pastor and grilled chicken were just nothing special and neither was the salsa, but my favorite ones were steak/pork combo (campechanos) and the ribeye & bone marrow. Lots of flavor in those. The vibes in Salum are unbeatable though! We went both during "perfect" weather and a rainstorm and it was fun both times! read more

We recently stayed a week at the Mayan Resort in Palya Del Carmen. One of the main attractions at the resort is Salum, which is a beach-front collection of restaurants, bars, street food vendors, and native crafts stores. During our stay, we found Salum to be the "happening" place at the resort, packed with guests every night, live music and entertainment, just good ol' fun! We tried the fare at La Cantina (short ribs and sea bass), Waves and Tacos (ribeye taco with bone marrow), Volando Ando (crispy wings with buffalo sauce), Robayaki (nigiri and sushi rolls), Saude (champagne cocktails) and Huama (beer bar). Everything we had was very good to fantastic, special hat tip to the ribeye and bone marrow taco, and the crispy wings! The food is great, the drinks are good, and, for the most part, prices were very reasonable. We'd definitely stay at the Mayan resort again ... the resort is wonderful and Salum is the fun center of all the action! read more

The food comes out a bit at a time mainly because it comes from different restaurants but it was not delivered hot temperature wise when it's brought out. The rice special was good, the wings were ok, and the sweet tea was good. Disappointed that they added the tip up front too. Salum was really yummy! This cute village of shops featured restaurants of all sorts of cuisines - Mexican, Mediterranean, Asian, wings, and BBQ. I personally ordered the hummus and tzatziki pizza with lamb. It was really good but the PACKED with toppings so felt a bit heavy. Others pictured include 2 tacos and the vegetable alambres. The portions were HUGE, especially for the price. We took home around half our food and we were hungryyy. Overall the vibe was super cute and the food was delicious. Salum is a restaurant in the Grand Mayan Resort in Playa del Carmen Mexico. It's an open al fresco style that has quite a market of menus... Quite a unique place with food, live music and a few shops with local products all inclosed in the resort. DH and I shared roasted brussel sprouts and a pulled pork sandwich on fresh roll which was great cocktails were good about $10 each beer was cheaper. The reason I liked this place so much was the choices we had and because it was all outside. I would highly recommend eating here prices were high but when you are traveling I expect to pay more. read more

Salum quite possibly has the best vibes and ambience on the resort. It's surrounded by the Caribbean and is decorated so thoughtfully, it legitimately feels like a completely separate part of the resort. Eating in Salum gives you access to four restaurant menus: Fuoco, Waves N' Tacos, Volando Ando and Robayaki. Salum and all its restaurants are mostly only open for dinner but Waves N' Tacos opens at noon if you want to pop over for lunch. At Waves N' Tacos, I highly recommend the al pastor regular tacos, the al pastor arabic tacos and the vegan arabic tacos - the pita bread is delicious. For dinner, we ate off the Volando Ando and Robayaki menus. From Volando, the smoked BBQ and honey mustard bone-in wings were incredible and from Robayaki, the shrimp tempura mayamaki is a must-have. Note: if all the menu prices seem inflated, keep in mind a 16% tax and 15% gratuity is already included in EACH menu item's price. read more

Salum offers multiple restaurant offerings under one roof right off the beach. There are multiple levels and plenty of seating for small and large groups. The food offerings are limited, but with multiple menus to choose from there is something for just about everyone. The shrimp tacos from waves and tacos were filling, four shrimps with multiple toppings - we went back for more. The sushi and gyoza was delicious, I ordered a second helping of the flavorful dumplings at dinner and did get a little sick afterwards! This place is a good alternative to the more expensive spots on the resort, and you do not need reservations to dine. read more

We had dinner here the first night of our honeymoon so take this review in stride as we were happy to be married and on our honeymoon and traveling out of the country after 15 months of pandemic!! This is also the main casual restaurant area for the Vidanta Resort so you could eat here every night and have something different. What we loved: - the layout of the seating and the different restaurants. It felt so welcoming and fun! - we LOVED the various guacamole and salsas - yummy and fun cocktails! - fun, various seating areas: by a fountain, in the sand under lights, etc. - walking around above the area in the marketplace in the shops and listening to live music What we didn't love: - the sushi was meh. And took forever to get. - one night the service was bad, it was 9pm on a Sunday and the whole place seemed busier than they expected or perhaps they were understaffed. This is the place to go if you want to be ripped off and treated like garbage. Everything is over priced and tiny... if they screw up your order you still have to pay for it. On our last night here my son went by himself and ordered some chicken wings. They had prematurely closed our account and the bartender Miguel noticed that... he told my son he needed a different payment method which he did not have on him and so Miguel threatened to call the police on him. The wings hadn't even arrived at this point so it should have been simple to cancel or to wait until I arrived to clear it up. We had spent several thousand dollars already at this hell hole Vidante resort and they threatened an extremely polite 18 year old who doesn't drink or cause any problems... will never return and suggest everyone avoid this place like the plague. We are here on our first evening at the Vidanta resort. We didn't plan too...but we had a couple of drinks and time got away from us. Bar is fully stocked however bartenders have differing skill levels. First round of margaritas was just ok. Second was awesome. We paid attention to who made them and specifically asked for them again. Great 2nd and 3rd drinks. Had a true craftsman bartender. Food was from multiple nearby restaurants. All was good Guacamole- very tasty but pretty chunky Queso- very VERY stringy cheesy but good Chips-like baked flour tortillas. Bland but worked surprisingly well with above Boneless wings - actually deep fried chicken breast chunks- sauces were good Tacos- all good. If you sit by the sand you will get eaten alive by mosquitos. They provide bug spray but we still got destroyed. The food.... Personally i think it's over priced for nothing that amazing. Tonight we had a wonderful dining experience at Waves & Tacos which is part of the Salem restaurants at Vidanta. We sampled street tacos, BBQ ribs & brisket, & a cauliflower dish. One member of our party has food allergies & our terrific waiter had the kitchen adapt the recipe to a less spicy fajita dish - which was totally delightful. Our waiter, Ulses,was attentive & carefully coordinated the service of the rest of the staff. Ah, and the hot brownie, with fudge sauce & mint ice cream was the perfect cap to a birthday. 5th time at Vidanta and they keep adding new attractions. Salum is a marketplace area near the beach that is like its own little city. The area is based off of Tulum Mexico and Salum definitely has that hippy, backpacker beach vibe that Tulum has. There are several restaurants and places to sit and relax and again it has a cool beachy vibe. My family really enjoyed La Cantina and Waves and Tacos located in the Salum marketplace. Would definitely recommend checking this area out because it has so much to offer and will make your vacation better. read more

This is not the place to go if you have a food allergy. The first night I ordered a cocktail that had an egg foam on top. No mention of egg in the listing of ingredients. The second night, I ordered my daughter a quesadilla on a corn tortilla and explained to the waiter that she has celiac disease, so she cannot have any gluten. The quesadilla shows up, my daughter takes a bite, and we discover that it's a flour tortilla. So now my daughter is sick and it will take at least 6 months for her intestinal villi to grow back, so she won't absorb good or grow for the better part of a year. I'm extremely upset and disappointed that this happened. We have been so careful, she hadn't had gluten in 4 years. read more

The atmosphere is awesome. We ordered tacos here two nights in a row and really enjoyed them. My wife is from Mexico and I'm of Mexican ancestry. We thought the tacos were very good and we tried the shrimp, carne asada and the al pastor tacos. All good. The service was slow, but friendly. Drinks were good, but also slow to arrive. The churros were just ok. I hope they can improve the speed of service because we really enjoyed eating here. Don't let the negative reviews scare you, just go and relax and enjoy. Yes, the food is overpriced, but it was good. Relax and enjoy, it's hard to get too upset with your feet in the sand as you eat dinner under palm trees. read more

We ate at La Cantina which had a beautiful eclectic ambiance. Service was good. Appetizer was the cheese fondue and it hit the spot with gooey decedence. It did take a while for waiter to take our main order. Main dishes were enchilada and lobster tacos. The main dishes were good but not unique or tasty enough to make me want to come back for more. Loved the evening atmosphere of live mariachi band outside with the courtyard all lit up. Great courtyard area with lots of fun spaces to sit. Salum is very cool in terms of its set up. Some of us describe it like walking into the world of the movie Coco. It is by the beach, there are beautiful lights above you, there's a lot of areas where you can sit under an open hut and other areas for tables, all outdoor. The night we were there, a mariachi band was playing. It is a really cool area to hang around. It's also great if you have kids, especially because there are different menus and you can pick from when you're ordering from your table so the kids can order from one place and you can order from another. As you go up the stairs, there are small shops for souvenirs and others with Mexican street food, including one serving ice cream and churros. That is the good stuff. So why 1 star...? The problem is that the choices of menus and the food quality is less than superb. In fact, it's less than OK. We found much of it to be way too 'Americanized'. The only exception to this was the ice cream and churros stand which was really delicious. Being from Las Vegas, we are used to the best quality and taste of food and we are used to expensive prices. Therefore, we found the prices reasonably high. Some portions are very small and the price is high. An example was the Chile Rellenos which literally was one small piece of it and sauce and nothing more. It cost about $10 US. Overall, it is expensive. Sitting at the tables to order, there is a small Mexican restaurant you can order from, Mediterranean/Italian restaurant you can order from, Japanese restaurant you can order from, and an American menu you can order from. The kids said that the sushi from the Japanese restaurant was good and I had a couple of bites of California roll and it was OK. I myself ordered the vegetarian/vegan flatbread with kale and several other vegetables and it was supposed to be Mediterranean but it was the most awful vegetarian/vegan meal I have ever had. I couldn't touch it past a few bites. It was not Mediterranean. The guacamole with vegetables was good but I have had way better. The tostadas that came with it were really good. I ordered a melted cheese combination that also came without tostadas and that was delicious as I used tostadas that came with the guacamole. Someone in our group ordered the cheese pizza/flatbread which they liked and my friend ordered the Chile rellenos and a taco with carne Asada. She liked the taco but again was shocked by the other dish which she said was very small and very expensive. The biggest problem is that she is Mexican and has been to Mexico several times. She was shocked explaining that both Mexican dishes were of American quality and they were not authentic Mexican. She even went as far as asking if they had ceviche and they said no. Overall, we were very disappointed by the food. I will also say that when we asked about ice cream and churros, they said they do have some ice cream we could order but they have no churros and they do not have a vast choice of ice cream and the best thing to do would be to go wait at the kiosk that sells ice cream and churros which currently has a long line of people waiting. The other thing we noticed is that the later you come for dinner, specifically about 730 or 8 PM, it gets extremely crowded and it's hard to find a good table but it takes forever to get your food. If you get here a little earlier, the service is better. When we went up the stairs, we waited in the line for churros. When we got there, we were told that we need to buy tickets in order to get this because it is Monday??? Nowhere was that written, presented as a sign, mentioned??? We had waited in line for 10 minutes and now we had to go wait in another long line to get the tickets and get back in line to get the churros??? If it was not for our 11 year old son, we would have left! Overall, they need better food choices, better food quality, and authentic Mexican food. We came here once and I do not plan on coming back again. I would only recommend coming here just to see it because of how cool it looks but sadly would not recommend the food. I am giving it one star because the service is awful and the food quality itself, with the exception of easy things to make like the melted cheese and the pizza, was absolutely awful. Basically, is a total rip off. My friend said it best: it is a cubic zirconia disguised as a diamond. The staff that try to sell you private vacation club residencies have the audacity to say that their food is amazing everywhere and all inclusive resorts are bad for this. All of the all inclusive resorts I have stayed at had delicious high quality food and this food at Vidanta was, for the most part, as good as very expensive garbage. Really disappointing! read more
