We had a good time at Nectar! It's one of the places that's only accessible by cart so we hopped on one and went across the Main Street to check it out. It was fairly crowded when we arrived, but the dinner/show at Joya was starting in like 30 mins so people were fading out slowly. We got some really creative and tasty drinks here including the Xaman (Rum Passion Fruit Drink), Alebrije (Mezcal Cucumer/Lime Drink), IK Habanero Drink (Tequila and Habanero) and a Lychee Martini. The Xaman was my favorite, very tropical tasting and sweet! The Alebrije had a smoky taste to it, and was very fresh. The Lychee Martini was my least favorite.. but I think after having a real lychee in it I've discovered it's not my flavor of choice. We didn't eat here but we smelled a few plates that looked good. We did go during one of the happy hour/live music nights and saw Rollercoasterband MX. the band was great, the guitarist, the bassist was going ham, the drummer was so skilled and the singer hand an incredible range! I just wished the mixed up the genres of music a little more throughout the night. Our friends raved about 2 nights earlier when there was a hip hop vibe but the night we went was all 80s classics like Abba, Sly & the Stones, Michael Jackson etc ... I like those classics but also would have loved to hear what the did other nights too. The demographic was the youngest we've seen on the resort (although still many middle aged people and older) that connected with the music so it was still a fun vibe. The food was excellent with tremendous flavor. We ordered the Roast chicken and the pork tenderloin. Juan was our server, who was super attentive to our needs and he has a great personality. All night he wasn't still for one second. Afterwards, we went to the bathroom to see Claudia Trevino perform. She performs on Friday and Saturday evenings from 915 to 1045pm. She was so good we came back just go see her perform again then next day, Saturday. Her vocals and the range of music she can perform are spectacular. She is the hidden gem at Vidanta! read more

I came to Nektar with my family during my stay at Vidanta Riviera Maya. We came on a Saturday night without reservation. The host at the first entrance denied us seating except at the bar or couches which meant we couldn't try the clay pots we had heard so much about. Disappointed, we decided to walk along the restaurant just to check it out, as well as the view of the water. There was another entrance on the other side and the host (a different one) seated us immediately. So uh not really sure what happened there. Otherwise, atmosphere of Nektar was super lively - a live band was playing, people were dancing, there was even a surprise performance on the water nearby. It was quite loud so it was kind of difficult to hear each other at the dinner table. They also didn't really have the most kid-friendly options except maybe a chopped up chicken or shrimp with mashed potatoes and carrots on the side. My sister, 10, was personally not a fan of either. The clay pot definitely stole the show - smoky and heated, it contained large portions of chicken, sausage, cactus, avocado, and more along with a side of tortillas. It was enough to split between 3 people for us. Overall, Nektar was good food and a fun atmosphere but maybe not as well suited for younger children. Beautiful place right by the theater, ambiance is very nice, service is great. Guacamole was very tasty with pumpkin seeds. Tamales were huge and tasty. Handmade tortillas were good and hot. The lady making the tortillas was very happy making them. I wasn't impressed with the cochinita Pibil. Their other restaurant was so much better. Shrimp tacos were good with plenty of shrimp. We dined at Nektar during our week stay at Mayan Palace in Playa Del Carmen. It was a 5-Star experience from start to finish. The atmosphere is amazing, just outside the Cirque du Soleil theater. We sipped on pre-dinner cocktails, the Bramble and the Golden Margherita. The Bramble was a fine glass of muddled berries and gin... tasted great! The Golden Margherita was a top shelf blend of blanco tequila, Cointreau and lime juice... awesome! The cocktails were served with complimentary chips and four salsas, all good but we liked the red and green the best. We decided to go "local" with Yucatan specialties for appetizers. The oven roasted beet salad was divine: cashews, goat cheese and a light, lime vinaigrette... so tasty! We also shared the Salpicon de Res Yucatecan Style, a shredded beef dish, loaded with fresh local veggies and a hot chili mayo... fantastic! The main course was a shared serving of the "Stuffed Cheese," a local delicacy of Mexican cheese stuffed with beef, pork, capers and olives, topped with raisins and a white chili sauce. Decadent and sublime! Service was perfect, attentive, but not intrusive. All the staff were super friendly and bent over backwards every step of the way. A great meal and a fantastic evening! And after watching the Joya show I now see how it all ties together. The wife and I had a quick snack in the bar area before dinner. The dinner we had at the show was pared with the show. Everything was edible including the menu. Cirque du Soleil out themselves this time. I've never been to a bad show though haha. The show was great, food was perfect and the venue super upscale and we have a delightful experience and if I could give this place a 10 star review I would. We celebrated my husband's birthday dinner while visiting Vidanta. The chicken dish with green olives was my personal favorite. It had a unique flavor with a perfect level of spice. The ambiance was perfect. Our waiter, Enrique and the band, The Roller Coaster Band MX was out of this world. The band didn't start playing until eight so I wouldn't book dinner until 730 so you can enjoy the entertainment. There was also a special surprise Mayan performance on the water. We had a mix of entree's at our table and every single item was amazing. Now for our server, Alian, he was the best server we could have ever dreamed of. We decided to check this place out after attending Joya, the cirque du soleil show, the night before. We are sure glad we did! The service from Juan Carlos was impeccable. He was very attentive and and made our dinner enjoyable. We were given complimentary chips with 4 different sauces. We ordered many Golden Margaritas - which were delicious, along with several other drinks. The Chicken tamales came with 2 tamales wrapped in banana leafs and chili verde sauce, not spicy at all but flavorful. The beef tacos were tender and the Serrano chile were very very hot! The molcajete, which was for 2, was cooked perfectly and the juice in it was especially flavorful. We also ordered the pork tacos which were also tender and flavorful. We didn't even go to the Joya show, but decided to have a nice romantic dinner just outside of our hotel. This place had 2 things that you MUST go for 1: the atmosphere. Great view of the cirque du solei building and beautiful 'interior' which is open-air. They also had a trio that night that was playing covers of pop songs and they were pretty amazing. The 2nd thing to go for? The habanero "margarita". That's not what it was, but it was similar. A little sweeter and less sour than a margarita, but Out-freakin-standing. I'm going to write the place to get he recipe...for real. The food was not exceptional, but it was still good. Food: 4 Drinks: 5!! Atmosphere: 10?? (Yeah, I can do that) Service: 4 Price: 4 (still a little pricey, but nothing compared to US prices. This place was the best dinner we had on the resort. We also tried the Italian restaurant, Frida, and Havana Moon. Ambience: was great, vibrant music that was current and lively, and around 10pm they start with live entertainment. Service: Excellent. Also far better than the other restaurants. Never had an empty glass. Always attentive when we needed her. Efficient and quick. Food: the complimentary chips and salsa were okay and not spicey at all. I was not a fan of the pumpkin salsa. Appetizer we started with was ceviche which was okay but for some reason they put more shredded veggies and skimp on seafood in their ceviche on this resort. The beef tacos were amazing with fresh tortillas, flavored meat and lime. When you first walk in you smell something amazing, it's the bowls you're smelling! We had the chicken bowl which is marinated chicken in a huge volcanic bowl with a myriad of salsa, peppers, cheese, onions, cilantro, and Avocado. It was the most amazing thing ever! Ask for lime and it'll set it off even more on the fresh tortillas. For dessert we had the pineapple upside down cake which was good but could have been better if it was served hot with the ice cream. Overall I would definitely recommend this place! read more

4 Stars = Exceeded my expectations Nektar was visited kind of on a whim. We were staying across the street at the Mayan Palace and we had made it a point to eat out and away from the hotel in either Playa or Cancun during our vacation as my expectation of "hotel food" is usually not that good. What a great surprise to find this place. It is a beautiful restaurant and the food is equally delicious. The staff was very helpful and friendly and they will make a good place to visit after dinner for drinking and dancing. The drink menu is probably the most unique thing about this place. The cocktails are quite creative. I had a bourbon pear cocktail that was tasty and beautiful to look at. I would probably have preferred something a little more manly but it tasted good in the end. The prices were on the higher end but what I would expect for this kind of place - definitely not out of line. I came close to awarding 5 stars but it just isn't worth dying for and only a handful of places get my five star award. Great effort! read more

We had a late birthday dinner for my mom while we were on vacation and we had tickets for the Cirque du Soleil. They managed to get all of our food and a bonus birthday dessert (on the house) complete with waiters singing just in time for the start of the show. The beet salad was wonderful and clearly big enough to share. I had 2 salads for my main meal and along with the chips and salsa that they bring to the table that was beyond enough food. The kids had a tougher time with some of the fancier dishes but settled on the kids filet with potatoes and vegetables. Both kids ate it up. * I'm thankful I have good almost non picky eaters. The others said their meals were also excellent- steaks, fish and tacos. The portions were big of both food and wine. So go hungry or be prepared to take some back to your room.
