This was the biggest recommendation that a lot of people gave to my group to have dinner in Playa de Carmen, but unfortunately, my experience was not the best. The services is super slow it took around thirty minutes to get a Sparkling Water after ordering which is kind of ridiculous. For my drink Mango Tropical Margarita. The margarita was not that good, I could not taste the alcohol did not taste either the mango. The food I ordered Mixed Grilled to share with my aunt, shrimp, lobster, skirt steak, and chicken breast with rice, vegetables, and garlic sauces. Need to be honest the amount of protein was generous to share across two or maybe three people, but the food was cold, not juicy, and without flavor. No bueno. A big no-no. The ambiance was nice Mariachi band was singing but be aware any song will cost you thirty dollars. holly cow.
Our family came her to eat during our family trip and stopped here to have lunch. I had the skirt steak tacos with nopales and it was really flavorful. Note. I normally dont eat nopales, but the way they cooked it here was like no other. It was reallly good!!! Loved the fresh corn tortillas it came with. The plate comes with 3 tacos, but you aren't allowed to substitute to other meats, all three need to be the same one, we were told. But it was tasty for sure. The kids liked it too. Service was cool and towards the end it was a little harder to find the waiter to pay, but eventually we did. Over all it was a good place to have lunch. Definitely need to come back to try other plates.
Place was pretty good for being directly on the strip. You can tell it's there for tourist (as is every restaurant in downtown). So I was skeptical if the food would be good, but it wasn't too bad! Of course you can go outside of downtown to find food less touristy and more authentic to the area, but for convenience sake. It does the job. They have performers and someone who takes your photo with hats if you want. I liked the fact it was upstairs so you could people watch and be away from the crowd. We came mid day so not the busiest time which is usually night time. Service was ok probably because it was slow, but can't complain. We just wanted a place to eat so didn't expect too much. Depending on what you're looking for this could be a nice place to grab a bite in between your adventure in downtown.
It is located at the heart of the 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. It is by no means cheap but I do think it is worth the price. We do recomend de Molcajete Surf and Turf with shrimp and attachera, the grill taste is amazing and the sauce seals the deal. I would not recomend getting the Aztec soup, it just did not have enough flavour. Overall, great experience and good food.
We stopped here because my son got hungry and wanted something Mexican. He was in a wheelchair and they sat us on the main floor, no people around only workers eating there, a bit strange but okay. The bathroom smelled terrible, we had to hold our breaths in order to wash our hands and quickly. My son decided to get the quesadillas with beef and side if beans. I wasn't much hungry so I ordered some calamari. The quesadillas were okay nothing out of the ordinary, I make better ones myself. The calamari where also average. The beer was warm! Don't serve a warm beer ever. I was surprised to noticed that the tip was already included on my check. Prices are fair considering is a touristy area.
I've been to Mexico countless times and this is the first time I felt cheated. First off the food is good and the view of 5th is good from the restaurant but I do have a complaint.. The guy came up to me with a calculator saying my bill was 720 pesos. I paid and then after I asked for a receipt and the receipt said 610 pesos.. So I asked him is tip included and he said no.. tip is not included so then I asked him then why is it less than what I got charged for? He said "it's for the restaurant" I asked him again so tip is not included? And he said "no the extra amount is for the "restaurant tip is not included" What does that even mean?!? That was super odd. I didn't want to stick around and argue with him because I knew I was not going to win. I've watch videos before where people would warn tourist about restaurants that would charge them more or cheat them because they are tourist but it has never happened to me until today. I've been to over 40 restaurants in Mexico and I NEVER felt cheated until today. I guess there's always one bad apple. It was my fault I didn't ask for a receipt but they should not charge people more than what's on the receipt. Needless to say I won't be back and this has taught me to always ask for a receipt first and put my guard down just because I've had WONDERFUL experiences elsewhere. I guess 39 honest restaurants compared to one bad one isn't so bad..but still it's the principal. 100 pesos is $5 which is barley anything but it's the dishonesty that gets to me..
So so flavors, pricey, good service, tacos de pastor were average, nothing memorable. Fish was also good, healthy selection. The shrimp molcajete disappointed a bit due to the skimpy serving size. The chorizo is authentic and tasty. Best part is home made corn tortillas. Ambiance is pretty, clean and mexican traditional. 2nd time here and it is the same as my last experience 3 yrs ago. be careful with the picture guy, $54.00 usd for 1photos & 1 small tequila bottle, we did not buy. We did but it the first x we visited
We were looking for taco places for lunch during a day trip to Playa del Carmen. This restaurant was located around the centre of the famous commerical walking district. The price was expected to inflate in the tourist area according to our tour guide (200+ peso per dish). The restaurant also offered live music at your expense. We tried their meat taco and fish taco. Both were decent. The mashed bean also tasted yummy. We were quite satisfied with the flavour and portion of our food. read more
Bathroom smelled like lemons, toilet flushed nicely too. Anyways this food went hard and I strongly recommend anyone that is strolling through this city to visit this restaurant. I guarantee it will not disappoint. We actually went recommended this place from some od the locals we befriended and I'm glad they sent us our way. The location of the restaurant is on the second story of a building overlooking 5th Avenue. It's a great view of the spa and some landmarks as well. Our waiter was amazing and brought us the best chips and salsa. The salsa was not too soft and the tortilla chips tasted very fresh and crispy. Our main dish arrived fast and hot off the skillet. These fajitas reminded me of the first time I had authentic Mexican food when I was growing up in San Antonio, I felt like that critic guy in Ratatouille when I took my first bite lol. Flavor was central to each of the components. The seasoning and marination of the chick and steak was perfection. They came out juicy, tender, and a nice crust and grill markings. The shrimp were grilled to perfection. And they really had the best flour tortillas I've ever had. Price was more than fair and there was even the option to be serenaded during the meal. 10/10, I really will miss this place and will be sure the come back anytime that I visit Playa Del Carmen in the future read more

Food was delicious, the entire staff very nice and up beat, you get to see the entire 5ave and street preference for the balcony.. I've visited Playa multiple times now and I always make time to go back and dine here.. we enjoy the energy there! Strongly recommend trying this place you won't be disappointed.... Food was good. The service was amazing. They opened the restaurant just for us. We arrived so early and started with drinks Very nice. And the ambiance was festive. Cool shade sitting on the rooftop. I would return here again read more

It's hard to give any of these spots on the main street five stars. A lot of them try to Americanize themselves to make it easier on tourists, which isn't what I want. There's still a bit of that at La Parrilla, but if you look hard enough you can find some local things on the menu. According to their website, they are one of the most traditional restaurants in town. They make a few things right by the table, which is a nice touch. While traditional, they don't step too far away from the classics. You can get Cochinita Pibil to feel different, which is just a different kind of pulled pork. You have to sit on the second floor, which gives you an overlook of the street. I guess the best part about Parrilla is that it's slightly local on the busiest street of PDC. read more

Came here on a whim while walking on 5th Ave. The service is a little inattentive because there are so many servers but am able to overlook it with the free tequila shots they gave. We ordered the ribeye steak which was really good very juicy and flavorful. I got the exotic tropical colada which was amazing!!! The horchata was also surprisingly solid. Unfortunately wasn't able to grab a picture because I forgot to snap a pic until the meal was done. read more

Miss it here already! Customer service: superb! All of the staff was amazing and definitely made us feel welcome. Even the manager came out to see how everyone was doing in the restaurant. Food: de-lish. Everyone at the table loved their dish and their drink. I ordered the Al Pastor Tacos. Oh my. Flavorful, the meat was tender, and the portion was perfect to leave just enough room for dessert. (There is always room for dessert even if I'm about to explode). The chocolate cake was insanely good. The only place I get good cake like that is in NYC at an Italian bakery. Phenomenal! Would I recommend? This location, yes. Will I be back? Starting out I need to recognize the team that looked after our group of 12 this evening, lead by Martin Couoh. If you're coming to this place because of this review, I highly recommend you come here looking for Him and to try to have Him and his team cater to you. Having said that, I didn't see one unhappy table this evening. The excellent location right on 5th Avenue also added to the experience. We started with drinks. I highly recommend their Margarita. Some had the Mango Dakari and they also raves about theirs. For appetizers we had their Melted Cheese with Chorizo, Fajiji something Shrimp (don't recall full name of the dish), their quac dip and the calamari. All of which were amazing!! For my main, I shared the Mixed Grill with a friend. It came highly recommended and didn't disappoint. Most of the rest of our group had the Mixed Fajitas which was a hit just as well!! No room left in the bellies but we finished off the evening with some flaming Spanish coffees. If you're down here eating out, this is a MUST HIT place.b read more
This is a more upscale restaurant in Playa Del Carmen. It has an upstairs and the downstairs, and I recommend sitting upstairs for a terrific view of the street. Wait staff was very friendly and I love that they provide the "purse pole" to hang your bags and purses. Being that this restaurant is in Playa del Carmen next to the ocean, you can't go wrong with the seafood. But with a name like La Parilla, I recommend the meat dishes. Ribeye - thin but tasty, skirt steak tacos - must eat, melt in your mouth. Yum While in Mexico always be aware of the automatic tip tacked in the end. This restaurant adds a fair tip and I like that. Other places added 35% so travelers beware. read more
I wanted real Mexican food so we left the resort. Our taxi cab driver recommended this place. The prices seemed pretty touristy to me, but we went in anyway. They said our meals would come with a free drink. My rum punch wasn't bad. I had the bistec tacos, and admittedly the meat was seasoned really well, and had great flavor. For desert, I asked for tres leches. It left something to be desired; it was pretty dry. I will say the place comes with a great view though. We were seated so that you could look out into the street and see all of the activity happening below. read more

After a week in the Playa del Carmen area, this was our favorite meal! The service was great and the food was even better! Their green salsa is to die for! I wanted to put it on everything! They also offer a fun souvenir of a tequila bottle with your picture on it! It was something we weren't expecting, but were happy to come home with the memory and the bottle! read more

The place is very nice and decorated which make the atmosphere awesome for night time. However I think the tacos weren't the as good as most of the places near by. The guacamole was my favor and the portion was fair. I also tried the chicken enchiladas and they were better than the tacos. read more

I visited in early August 2019 based on my hotel's recommendation for authentic Mexican food. The location from the Mayakoba region is about a $20USD/$350MXN taxi ride. It is located at the most northern end of the Quinta Ave tourist area. Upon entering, you are greeted and are asked for seat preferences either on their ground level or top floor. We sat in the top floor with a view over la Quinta Ave. One of the reasons I gave this a 3 star was due to the wait we had to endure just to get our drinks/appetizer order, about 12minutes from when we were first seated. Then another 12mins to get our main order in. During our meal, they have a service where they take a photo of you (which I thought was just for their website or something) but towards the end they come back and try to sell you the photograph in a frame and another on a tequila bottle. A bit unwelcoming during dinner....they also had a live band to come and play music for your table if you wanted but for a cost too. Both these were unsettling for me. The food....overall was good! They came to our table to make our guacamole table side. The chips were a bit stale, not warm like other locations we had went to. We ordered cochinitas, essentially roasted pork which was really really good (but did not come with any sides). We also ordered the mixed fajitas with cheese, which were also cooked very well! The downside to this was the lack of sides as well with it. Overall, decent restaurant. Can't comment on the tacos since by this point we had been taco-ed out and had tacos every other day or our visit. Also, credit cards are welcomed and take both pesos and dollars, but I would recommend card payment! read more

By far the best food I had while visiting Mexico. The staff was great ,the band, everything was amazing. This review is short and simple but my pictures will do the justice. The location is in playa del carmen in the town center or mall like area very well lit tourist friendly but also very popular with locals. read more
