Bubble drink date with Angela! Of course of all times I'm out, I forgot my wallet! Luckily Angela covered me, thank you. Met up after class, and walked from after campus into Chinatown, kind of, not really. I noticed that we finally made the destination when I saw the pineapple with a weird nose logo. Small shop, a lot of choices to choose from. Someone had ordered ahead of us and since there was only one worker we had to wait until he was done with the first customer's order before we placed ours. Once he had finished their order he got ours. I got the honeydew as usual. Made with real fruit! It wasn't long before he got our orders. Two drinks for under $10. One size and these drinks, huge! Easily the best smoothie I have ever had on the island. Fresh fruit that is proudly shown off in the refrigerated display cases. Seeing the huge bowl of peeled kiwis brought out of the case for my smoothie made me feel like a deeply delighted child. I hate to say OMG but it is so necessary when it comes to the quantity+quality+price. It's the best deal I've ever seen. Just a heads up, watch out for any smoothie that contains pineapple. On two separate occasions I ordered two different types of smoothies that both contained pineapple. Both of those times the smoothies contained large chunks of pineapple on the bottom of the cup that could be sucked up through the straw. The pineapple wasn't cut properly so the thorny bits were still on it which ended up cutting my tongue. It was truly awful since pineapple is so acidic. Because of that I'll have to give them four stars instead of five. Normally I wouldn't tolerate such a thing but I'll still patronize Summer frappe since they're smoothies are just so utterly fucking delicious. A meal unto itself for a hot summer day. I've only tried one food item which was the avocado banh mi. They gave a shocking amount of huge chunks of avocado. It also contained huge wholes pieces of lettuce, tomatoes, the usual daikon/carrot salad on the atypical baguette. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty but the fact that it didn't contain an adequate amount of daikon made it quite an unsatisfying experience until I bought some more from a local market. Once it had a generous layering of daikon I was more than happy to devour it. As for the service and etc., It's a fairly spacious clean juice bar. Can it really be called a juice bar? They also serve shave ice and as I previously mentioned banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). The service is always very quick and friendly. I think once the older lady who I'm guessing is the owner has seen me frequent the place enough times that she has warmed up to me. Another great find in Chinatown. I decided to go outside my comfort-zone of pina colada and tried the avocado papaya smoothie. I love both avocado and papaya but was unsure of having avocado in smoothie form. Let me say, it was amazing. Sweet but not too sweet and so creamy! It was refreshing and satisfying knowing that there were only two ingredients in this drink. No need for added sugar and any other artificial junk. But it came out and was kinda good but not great. Just weird drinking an almond flavored slushy with no creamy milk tea to give it substance. The bf got the coconut drink with grass jelly which was basically crushed ice in canned coconut milk and grass jelly. Simple but good. I like this place because they have big sizes for cheap prices. This was my first time at Summer Frappe and it definitely did not disappoint. The location is great for me as it's not too far from work (10-15 minute walk). First off, there are a ton of smoothie combinations. I got the Durian smoothie with only fruit and ice. The guy there warned me it wouldn't be good without the milk and ice (in a nice way), but said they could make it like that without a problem. It turned out great. I stay away from sugars unless they're natural and I don't eat/drink dairy, and it was delicious just with the Durian and ice. It was a decent price for the size at 5.50 (it's the only one that expensive, the rest range between 3.00-5.00) and they were very friendly. They have a nice little seating area inside too (small, but no one else was in there). Lots of fresh fruit in the display and in the cooler. I'll definitely be back! read more

I happened upon this place by chance, and I was pleasantly surprised. THEY HAVE ACTUAL, REAL, FRESH, NOT FROZEN, REAL FRESH FRUIT in their smoothies. As in, there are giant bowls of fruit sitting there under the glass. I have wasted away too long under the guise of "real fruit" in smoothies that is actually frozen strawberry syrup goop, or "smoothies" in restaurants that are just blended blocks of ice mixed with corn syrup. Summer Frappe was quite a nice surprise in the other direction. Their menu of smoothies is pretty big, and they have some pretty interesting fruits--I wonder where they get them? They have durian, chico, aloe, avocado, and the usual suspects like pineapple, papaya, strawberry, banana, mango, honeydew. I have almost never been to a "bubble tea" or smoothie place that actually gives you fresh honeydew in your honeydew drink. All the smoothies are between $3.50 and $4.50. I got a pina colada (tasted like it was made with coconut milk or cream of coconut--a very nice change from the gross pina coladas served in bars all over hawaii) and an avocado/honeydew smoothie. The guy kept asking me if I wanted them mixed together like I was a weirdo. I guess because it's a combination not on the menu. The place is clean and bright, the fruits look clean and fresh, and the service is friendly. I was actually the only person in the place for the full five minutes I spent staring at the menu, trying to decide whether I wanted aloe or avocado. And what the heck is a chico? There were two older ladies chatting on chairs behind the counter, and the 20-something guy appeared to be their relative? The area isn't the nicest with so many homeless and creepers abound, so just keep your wits about you when you come here. Their menu offers a variety of fruit smoothies within the $3.00-$5.00 range. Cheaper options include fruit flavors such as banana, strawberry, and honeydew. The $5.00 flavors include durian and soursop. They offer just one size, which is pretty large, so I consider drinks here well worth the cost. The refrigerated display case shows off fruits like cantaloupe, pineapple, and watermelon. Though I'm sure they use real fruits in some of their drinks, my mango smoothie tasted artificially and excessively sweet. Despite this, it was a refreshing and sweet drink on a hot day. The smoothie was finely blended, and the boba was perfectly chewy. Don't forget to bring cash! Like so many other spots nearby, they don't accept cards here. I always make Summer Frappe my last stop in Chinatown before heading home. This way, I can enjoy my enormous smoothie or bubble drink all the way home in my car. This place specializes in fresh fruit smoothies. I love the mango, pineapple, jackfruit, soursop, and durian smoothies the most. The first time I went there, I ordered the jackfruit smoothie, and the owner was so impressed that an American like me even knew what jackfruit was, she remembered me from that moment on. It's nice to be an established customer right from the beginning! She also sells grape, watermelon, avocado, banana, strawberry, papaya, and many other smoothies for only $3.50 or $4.00. I think it's a steal, because you get so much fruit and the portion is enormous. Plus, unlike other places, she tries not to put so much sugar in it. If the fruit is nice and ripe, she'll leave out the sugar entirely. Every other place automatically adds simple syrup to everything. This shop doesn't seem to have as many customers as the stand across the way in Maunakea Marketplace. I think that's because it's set back so people don't see it. I think they have better drinks, better prices, and much better service. Summer Frappe also has many different bubble drink flavors and they sell cut up fresh fruits to go similar to what you'd find in Asia, such as slices of white guava with spicy salt for dipping. They also sell summer rolls and banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). I love the meatball banh mi. It's a flaky, chewy French loaf split open and suffed with juicy and flavorful pork and water chestnut meatballs, then topped with cucumbers, shredded pickled carrots and daikon, and cilantro. It's a bargain at $5.50 because it's huge. And it's so tasty. It's the best banh mi in Hawaii. For me, the owner adds fiery whole Thai chilis so that it burns on the way down. I always come here after eating pho to soothe my cotton mouth. The price ranges anywhere from $3-$5 for the fruit smoothies. They have a lot of pictures of each of the drinks. They also have shave ice and sandwiches if you want to try something different. There is also three tables inside the store where you can sit and chill while you are waiting for your drink. My only bad experience with this place is that the doors and open so you can see flies and mosquitoes inside the store. It's a bright store, with fresh fruit displayed, a colorful picture menu on the wall, and they usually have exotic looking plants decorating the area... ...they might also have some other fruits floating around in jars...I try to ignore that stuff. Ask the lady what are her sweetest/freshest fruits that day, and she'll make some fine recommendations. It's great, because she knows what sweet, and won't add extra sugar if it isn't necessary. My personal favorite smoothie is the avocado papaya smoothie. Sounds weird. Tastes great. Very filling. I liked how on the Chinese New Year, the nice lady was giving everyone free size upgrades for their drinks. When I'm passing the area, I try to make a stop here whenever I can. Summer Frappe is my go to spot if I am looking for a fresh, real fruit smoothie when I'm in Chinatown. The selection is incredibly large here and you'll spend the time waiting in line figuring what to get. Unless you have a favorite, choosing what to get is one of the hardest ordeals in your life and I'm not even exaggerating. My favorites include sour sop, strawberry lemon, freshly squeezed orange juice, and pina colada. If you can't figure what to get, be adventurous. Try the sour sop. It is great! You can also try durian if you're Bear Grylls adventurous but that's beyond my level. If you're looking for milk tea, I would definitely skip this place and try Cafe de Tim. Cafe de Tim is much more authentic and isn't as sweet. Now that my workplace has relocated (relatively) nearby, it's worth the lunchtime carpool (haha, thanks sis!). I can only reiterate what has already been said: real fruits, no filler. They were out of avocado the day I went (sad!), but my mango-coconut smoothie was just as delicious and refreshing as I remembered. My sister likewise enjoyed her mango-coconut-strawberry smoothie (as you can see, the flavors have the potential to get a little wild!). Yes, it's boba time! Hula Boba! YeaaAAAAHHHnnnnNNNOOO, it's closed on Sundays! Now what? I had this craving for some taro tea after just downing some dim sum in Chinatown and now I didn't know what to do. I looked around in like a lost child and in an instant the tea gods magically answered my prayer as right there in front of me was the heavenly gates of Summer Frappe. The place was simple and clean. Nothing flashy, just a colorful menu that displayed all what they had to offer. No complaints here as I skimmed through the menu board. From Pennywort to Durian, and a fruit I had never seen before (I recall it sounding almost Spanish), I was impressed by their nice selection of smoothies and pearl tea. In my mind, I already knew what my heart desired. Hmm that does not sound right, more like a contradiction, but in essence, I needed taro tea (no pearls, I was still digesting the carbs from lunch). So I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it was "tarobble". Okay, that was a pretty bad wordplay, but it's my way of entertaining the reader. Ah, at least I try. Getting back to important matters, it was lacking a strong taro flavor as it tasted watered down and it had way too much blended ice. If you gave me one of those sundae cup wooden scoopers it could have easily passed for a taro shaved ice instead of a pearl drink. In fact, it would have better. All you have to do is give me some condensed milk on that bad boy so that I can go to town. Looking on the bright side though, it was not syrupy and not instant cavities on your teeth sweet. Most reviews here rave about their fresh fruit smoothies that contain little additives so I'm thinking perhaps their pearl teas are still catching up to their five star yelp greatness, at least thus far on the date of this review. In the meantime, ditch the taro and I'll be sure to come back on a less blustery day. This place hit the spot after walking in a complete block almost to the exact spot that we were parked (u can't always rely on google maps). I feel like I'm a smoothie, frozen drink master. With my nutri bullet I whip up all sorts of drinks for my girls after school but man has this place got me beat. I ordered the first thing that caught my attention passion fruit and pineapple but I wish I had slowed down a little and gave the menu board some thought first. I live in Hawaii and I've never been anywhere where they offer such a vast variety of tropical fruit flavors. They had everything. Salted calamansi/lemonade. Soursop and Durian smoothies. The flavors were endless and the smoothies were great. They also offered milk/bubble teas and different sandwich options if you're hungry. Haven't had a chance to try them yet but when I go back I will. I already want to go back. This place is so good and so affordable I highly recommend everyone try it. My favorite smoothie is a basic: Honewdew, followed by Mango. I've tried the Pineapple which was stringy because they use real pineapple.
