Bubble drink date with Angela! Of course of all times I'm out, I forgot my wallet! Luckily Angela covered me, thank you. Met up after class, and walked from after campus into Chinatown, kind of, not really. I noticed that we finally made the destination when I saw the pineapple with a weird nose logo. Small shop, a lot of choices to choose from. Someone had ordered ahead of us and since there was only one worker we had to wait until he was done with the first customer's order before we placed ours. Once he had finished their order he got ours. I got the honeydew as usual. Made with real fruit! It wasn't long before he got our orders. Two drinks for under $10. One size and these drinks, huge! (http://instagram.com/p/YeNGxWHtyc/) Since Angela is a frequent visitor, the worker already knew her order. After he chatted with us. Friendly guy. I enjoyed my drink, but since the bubbles were at the bottom, I couldn't get to all of them and that was what was basically left. With the sun setting, it was hot inside. Driving? There's some street parking. read more

Easily the best smoothie I have ever had on the island. Fresh fruit that is proudly shown off in the refrigerated display cases. Seeing the huge bowl of peeled kiwis brought out of the case for my smoothie made me feel like a deeply delighted child. I hate to say OMG but it is so necessary when it comes to the quantity+quality+price. It's the best deal I've ever seen. Just a heads up, watch out for any smoothie that contains pineapple. On two separate occasions I ordered two different types of smoothies that both contained pineapple. Both of those times the smoothies contained large chunks of pineapple on the bottom of the cup that could be sucked up through the straw. The pineapple wasn't cut properly so the thorny bits were still on it which ended up cutting my tongue. It was truly awful since pineapple is so acidic. Because of that I'll have to give them four stars instead of five. Normally I wouldn't tolerate such a thing but I'll still patronize Summer frappe since they're smoothies are just so utterly fucking delicious. A meal unto itself for a hot summer day. I've only tried one food item which was the avocado banh mi. They gave a shocking amount of huge chunks of avocado. It also contained huge wholes pieces of lettuce, tomatoes, the usual daikon/carrot salad on the atypical baguette. All the ingredients were fresh and tasty but the fact that it didn't contain an adequate amount of daikon made it quite an unsatisfying experience until I bought some more from a local market. Once it had a generous layering of daikon I was more than happy to devour it. As for the service and etc., It's a fairly spacious clean juice bar. Can it really be called a juice bar? They also serve shave ice and as I previously mentioned banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). The service is always very quick and friendly. I think once the older lady who I'm guessing is the owner has seen me frequent the place enough times that she has warmed up to me. If it were up to me I would frequent the place a few times a week! read more

Another great find in Chinatown. I decided to go outside my comfort-zone of pina colada and tried the avocado papaya smoothie. I love both avocado and papaya but was unsure of having avocado in smoothie form. Let me say, it was amazing. Sweet but not too sweet and so creamy! It was refreshing and satisfying knowing that there were only two ingredients in this drink. No need for added sugar and any other artificial junk. The smoothie was huge, so for about $4 you are getting great value. It could have counted for lunch it was that filling, in fact I will be back on my next lunch break. read more

Love the smoothies here and also the sandwiches. The aunty there will make you any blend you like and will advise you on what fruits go together. I get at least 3 smoothies a week from this place. Try out the chico smoothie if you're feeling adventurous. It's become one of my new favs. read more

I've passed here a million times, and never had the urged to get something here. Then one day it hit me. I told my friend lets go try it. So we ordered the taro and almond bubble tea. It was kinda toooo sweet. Kept us bloated the whole day. Dang! haha It is a very decent portion size for $3.25+tax. Not bad. But I would love to try something else next time. read more

Salty Lemon - taro and almond bubble tea - Juice Bars & Smoothies Near Me - Honolulu, Hawaii

This is the first time I ordered an Almond Bubble Drink and to my surprise it was just basically an Almond smoothie. I made the mistake of assuming it was Almond MILK TEA, which I love. But it came out and was kinda good but not great. Just weird drinking an almond flavored slushy with no creamy milk tea to give it substance. The bf got the coconut drink with grass jelly which was basically crushed ice in canned coconut milk and grass jelly. Simple but good. I like this place because they have big sizes for cheap prices. But if I'm in Chinatown, I'm definitely gonna choose Cafe de Tim or Thang over this place. Maybe I just haven't tried the right flavors; guess I gotta go back! read more

Stopped by after long hike in diamond head peak and then Ubered to Chinatown and this little fresh juice place was here...very tasty options!! They use fresh fruit but have no juices, all smoothies!! But we started with fresh cut mango which was so sweet since it's mango season currently!! Then had the sugar cane juice which was insane!! So good!!! Then papaya smoothie was really good as well!! Excellent place!! read more

This was my first time at Summer Frappe and it definitely did not disappoint. The location is great for me as it's not too far from work (10-15 minute walk). First off, there are a ton of smoothie combinations. I got the Durian smoothie with only fruit and ice. The guy there warned me it wouldn't be good without the milk and ice (in a nice way), but said they could make it like that without a problem. It turned out great. I stay away from sugars unless they're natural and I don't eat/drink dairy, and it was delicious just with the Durian and ice. It was a decent price for the size at 5.50 (it's the only one that expensive, the rest range between 3.00-5.00) and they were very friendly. They have a nice little seating area inside too (small, but no one else was in there). Lots of fresh fruit in the display and in the cooler. I'll definitely be back! read more

My favorite stop for fresh fruit whether it's blended or diced and packaged to grab and go. My favorite is the mango kiwi pineapple. It's filled to the brim with sweet, fresh, liquefied tropical fruit. My husband chose the mango aloe papaya. The owner said it's slightly bitter which is probably why my husband loves it. Although I sampled it and I did not taste any bitterness at all. If you have a potluck to go to, stop here early in the day and grab a couple of their fresh diced grab and go fruit containers. read more

I literally grew up coming here, naturally because in Chinatown, there's tons of delicious Chinese food, and everything is accessible for my Chinese family. Every Sunday and Saturday, my family makes it a point to come here because they have a variety of snacks and drinks! My favorite drink is Sugarcane Juice, and it's really sweet, cooling, and delicious. Their milk tea is the type where you'd blend it, but instead of being icy, it's very creamy and melts cooly in your mouth, and their boba is especially QQ! The workers are really efficient and easy to talk too as well! read more

BEST avocado sandwich in the universe ! Quality smoothies No powders used here!!!! You may have to wait...but so worth it and so reasonable!

I found this place on a hot day walking through Honolulu's China Town. The bright green walls are covered with so many combination frappes I could pick from. I got mango and my husband got mango kiwi and pineapple. The drinks we got were delicious, smooth, and quickly prepared. Definitely a great stop on a hot day. Cash only but the staff is friendly and Greta at making juices. read more

This is my secret place that I go to for a drink when I'm in chinatown. Outside of chinatown -- I seldomly get a smoothie because other places haven't compared to Summer Frappe. The quality and size of the drinks are superb! I usually get the watermelon juice smoothie. It is so refreshing and is perfect for these hot summer days. This place also has the best durian smoothie in my opinion. The smell is there too hahaha read more

I happened upon this place by chance, and I was pleasantly surprised. THEY HAVE ACTUAL, REAL, FRESH, NOT FROZEN, REAL FRESH FRUIT in their smoothies. As in, there are giant bowls of fruit sitting there under the glass. I have wasted away too long under the guise of "real fruit" in smoothies that is actually frozen strawberry syrup goop, or "smoothies" in restaurants that are just blended blocks of ice mixed with corn syrup. Summer Frappe was quite a nice surprise in the other direction. Their menu of smoothies is pretty big, and they have some pretty interesting fruits--I wonder where they get them? They have durian, chico, aloe, avocado, and the usual suspects like pineapple, papaya, strawberry, banana, mango, honeydew. I have almost never been to a "bubble tea" or smoothie place that actually gives you fresh honeydew in your honeydew drink. All the smoothies are between $3.50 and $4.50. I got a pina colada (tasted like it was made with coconut milk or cream of coconut--a very nice change from the gross pina coladas served in bars all over hawaii) and an avocado/honeydew smoothie. The guy kept asking me if I wanted them mixed together like I was a weirdo. I guess because it's a combination not on the menu. The place is clean and bright, the fruits look clean and fresh, and the service is friendly. I was actually the only person in the place for the full five minutes I spent staring at the menu, trying to decide whether I wanted aloe or avocado. And what the heck is a chico? There were two older ladies chatting on chairs behind the counter, and the 20-something guy appeared to be their relative? Anyway, my smoothies were good, they were $4 even each, and the place is pretty clean and happy looking. I will go back and try some more, if I am in the area. read more

While most other Downtown and Chinatown boba shops are closed on Sundays, Summer Frappe is there to satisfy your boba fix any day of the week! They're a small shop nestled near the corner of Pauahi and Maunakea St. in Chinatown. The area isn't the nicest with so many homeless and creepers abound, so just keep your wits about you when you come here. Their menu offers a variety of fruit smoothies within the $3.00-$5.00 range. Cheaper options include fruit flavors such as banana, strawberry, and honeydew. The $5.00 flavors include durian and soursop. They offer just one size, which is pretty large, so I consider drinks here well worth the cost. The refrigerated display case shows off fruits like cantaloupe, pineapple, and watermelon. Though I'm sure they use real fruits in some of their drinks, my mango smoothie tasted artificially and excessively sweet. Despite this, it was a refreshing and sweet drink on a hot day. The smoothie was finely blended, and the boba was perfectly chewy. Don't forget to bring cash! Like so many other spots nearby, they don't accept cards here. Hang's will continue to be my first choice when it's open, but Summer Frappe is another nice option for smoothies in the neighborhood! read more

I always make Summer Frappe my last stop in Chinatown before heading home. This way, I can enjoy my enormous smoothie or bubble drink all the way home in my car. This place specializes in fresh fruit smoothies. I love the mango, pineapple, jackfruit, soursop, and durian smoothies the most. The first time I went there, I ordered the jackfruit smoothie, and the owner was so impressed that an American like me even knew what jackfruit was, she remembered me from that moment on. It's nice to be an established customer right from the beginning! She also sells grape, watermelon, avocado, banana, strawberry, papaya, and many other smoothies for only $3.50 or $4.00. I think it's a steal, because you get so much fruit and the portion is enormous. Plus, unlike other places, she tries not to put so much sugar in it. If the fruit is nice and ripe, she'll leave out the sugar entirely. Every other place automatically adds simple syrup to everything. This shop doesn't seem to have as many customers as the stand across the way in Maunakea Marketplace. I think that's because it's set back so people don't see it. I think they have better drinks, better prices, and much better service. Summer Frappe also has many different bubble drink flavors and they sell cut up fresh fruits to go similar to what you'd find in Asia, such as slices of white guava with spicy salt for dipping. They also sell summer rolls and banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches). I love the meatball banh mi. It's a flaky, chewy French loaf split open and suffed with juicy and flavorful pork and water chestnut meatballs, then topped with cucumbers, shredded pickled carrots and daikon, and cilantro. It's a bargain at $5.50 because it's huge. And it's so tasty. It's the best banh mi in Hawaii. For me, the owner adds fiery whole Thai chilis so that it burns on the way down. I don't mind the burn; I have a whole smoothie to wash it down with! read more

Although the smoothies we chose today (papaya/avacado and orange/kiwi/[some other fruit]) were not my absolute favorites, I'm giving this place four stars because... 1) they use fresh fruits, 2) it's not just your cut and dry Jamba Juice flavors, and 3) they have a durian smoothie :P One day I WILL go back for you, durian smoothie...and I'm bring my Yelp friends down with me! Good real fruit smoothies. My favorite is either the watermelon or the strawberry honey dew. You can't go wrong with either. The price is pretty good as well because the size of the cup is huge. I always come here after eating pho to soothe my cotton mouth. The price ranges anywhere from $3-$5 for the fruit smoothies. They have a lot of pictures of each of the drinks. They also have shave ice and sandwiches if you want to try something different. There is also three tables inside the store where you can sit and chill while you are waiting for your drink. My only bad experience with this place is that the doors and open so you can see flies and mosquitoes inside the store. In addition to that there are ants crawling around by the window around the salty lemons. But those things are minor and won't keep me away from my fruit smoothie. read more

I got to try two drinks, the strawberry kiwi and lychee. By far, the lychee was better. I would recommend. The strawberry kiwi made my throat itchy. Not sure why. I ordered without the bubbles because I heard they contained plastic and could be cancerous?! Probably isn't true, but I'm the type that would believe it anyways. The lady who took the order obviously did not translate it to the man. I didn't feel like being a diva and making a fuss so I just took it and ended up spitting out the bubbles. LOL. sucha hassel!! Overall, I think it'd go for more of the exotic fruits like lychee, soursap, jackfruit, etc. read more

Summer Frappe is my go to spot if I am looking for a fresh, real fruit smoothie when I'm in Chinatown. The selection is incredibly large here and you'll spend the time waiting in line figuring what to get. Unless you have a favorite, choosing what to get is one of the hardest ordeals in your life and I'm not even exaggerating. My favorites include sour sop, strawberry lemon, freshly squeezed orange juice, and pina colada. If you can't figure what to get, be adventurous. Try the sour sop. It is great! You can also try durian if you're Bear Grylls adventurous but that's beyond my level. If you're looking for milk tea, I would definitely skip this place and try Cafe de Tim. Cafe de Tim is much more authentic and isn't as sweet. Since I had a hard time choosing which drinks to get, I already made my list of what I want to get next: Jackfruit Melon King's Dessert Watermelon Lychi Tea read more

Bottom Line: Great Smoothies. Great Prices. Great Service. Olivia D. Her reviews are hanging on store fronts everywhere. Again, she showed me a new place to treat my culinary senses. This little smoothie shop is nestled in the far back of china town. It's a bright store, with fresh fruit displayed, a colorful picture menu on the wall, and they usually have exotic looking plants decorating the area... ...they might also have some other fruits floating around in jars...I try to ignore that stuff. Ask the lady what are her sweetest/freshest fruits that day, and she'll make some fine recommendations. It's great, because she knows what sweet, and won't add extra sugar if it isn't necessary. My personal favorite smoothie is the avocado papaya smoothie. Sounds weird. Tastes great. Very filling. I liked how on the Chinese New Year, the nice lady was giving everyone free size upgrades for their drinks. When I'm passing the area, I try to make a stop here whenever I can. You should give it a shot. read more

When I worked downtown, this little smoothie shop in Chinatown was worth the lunchtime walk. Now that my workplace has relocated (relatively) nearby, it's worth the lunchtime carpool (haha, thanks sis!). I can only reiterate what has already been said: real fruits, no filler. They were out of avocado the day I went (sad!), but my mango-coconut smoothie was just as delicious and refreshing as I remembered. My sister likewise enjoyed her mango-coconut-strawberry smoothie (as you can see, the flavors have the potential to get a little wild!). I do like that you can make your own fruit combinations, even though I always end up getting the same order -- if only to know that I COULD change it up on a rare whim. Bring cash and sip away! read more

How is it still so hot in September??? Ah, ridiculous. Thank goodness for Summer Frappe. Gorgeous wall to wall pictures of every possible combination of fruit smoothies has you salviating the minute you get in the door. Blueberry banana, strawberry banana, banana banana... aloe papaya, avocado papaya...kiwi mango, kiwi banana... three kinds of grapes, DURIAN, geez louise, its a fruit bonaza. And all this, served up by the mama and her help. As much as I love MAI's, which is just right around the corner, as they have more Asian fruit (Sour sop and others), Summer Frappe has kiwi which I use for my potassium jolt. Maybe cause of the heat, but honestly, I am cramping up much more during the day. That's why I'm hooked on kiwi and banana. Keep the muscles healthy. Anyhow, as Emi said, the balls are a bit rubbery, and so that's about the only drawback here. Otherwise, Summer Frappe is an amazing place to drown yourself in refreshing fruit goodness. read more

This is the place I go to when I need me a fruit fix--also they serve exotic fruits like chico (YUM!) my favorite drink there is the A.M.P. (aloe, mango, papaya). Another one of my favorite drinks that shows my true Asian colors is the lemonade with the salted lemon. Just thinking of it makes my mouth salivate! They also serve jackfruit -- my favorite fruit (another hint to my Asian-ness). just a side note -- when you go there, make sure the son (young dude with the tats) helps because he doesn't skimp out with the fruit when you order a smoothie read more

Yes, it's boba time! Hula Boba! YeaaAAAAHHHnnnnNNNOOO, it's closed on Sundays! Now what? I had this craving for some taro tea after just downing some dim sum in Chinatown and now I didn't know what to do. I looked around in like a lost child and in an instant the tea gods magically answered my prayer as right there in front of me was the heavenly gates of Summer Frappe. The place was simple and clean. Nothing flashy, just a colorful menu that displayed all what they had to offer. No complaints here as I skimmed through the menu board. From Pennywort to Durian, and a fruit I had never seen before (I recall it sounding almost Spanish), I was impressed by their nice selection of smoothies and pearl tea. In my mind, I already knew what my heart desired. Hmm that does not sound right, more like a contradiction, but in essence, I needed taro tea (no pearls, I was still digesting the carbs from lunch). So I'd hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it was "tarobble". Okay, that was a pretty bad wordplay, but it's my way of entertaining the reader. Ah, at least I try. Getting back to important matters, it was lacking a strong taro flavor as it tasted watered down and it had way too much blended ice. If you gave me one of those sundae cup wooden scoopers it could have easily passed for a taro shaved ice instead of a pearl drink. In fact, it would have better. All you have to do is give me some condensed milk on that bad boy so that I can go to town. Looking on the bright side though, it was not syrupy and not instant cavities on your teeth sweet. Most reviews here rave about their fresh fruit smoothies that contain little additives so I'm thinking perhaps their pearl teas are still catching up to their five star yelp greatness, at least thus far on the date of this review. In the meantime, ditch the taro and I'll be sure to come back on a less blustery day. I think mother nature is on the rag with this tempestuous weather we have been having for the past few weeks. read more

Summer Frappe. I gotta admit, looking for specialty business on yelp is so good fun! sucks when yelp's not updated! I go all across town for shave ice just to find out that hula boba in downtown honolulu has been closed for what... a year now? crap! so I use my handy dandy yelp on the go.... type in shave ice... n... wah lah! all business with shave ice! but wait! what do I see across the street of hula boba? Summer Frappe! I get in summer frappe so full of fruity colors, aging li hing mui in the windows, big pictures of drinks on the wall.... and! the old lady reading the newspaper not paying attention and could care less if I gave her business or not. I'm thinking to myself, "this drink better be the bestest ever!" so without looking at the pictures, I ask the lady... "may I have a coconut drink?" she keeps reading her newspaper and say... "no moah coconut milk. no can!" so I step back. next guy ask orders a pina colada and she starts making it. I go up to her and say... "eh, get me a pina colada w/out the pineapple" she ignores me. by that time.. I'm like... "crap! give me a mango!" i get the drink.... it's the best fruit drink ever! so... swallowing my pride, I told the old lady with the touch of gold for fruit drinks... "thank you!" and she still didn't say anything.... lol! I would have given summer frappe I give them 5 stars... but! because of the old lady's 'tudde.... 4 stars is what they get! :D read more

Yum yum yum! This is the answer on a hot summer's day :) This is my first review of the place but I've been coming here for months. The best thing about this place is the fresh fruits that they use in their smoothies. You see it in the front display of the counter, cut and ready to be blended. My second favorite thing are the prices. For a giganto size smoothie, it's cheeeeaaaap! They only have one size (which I believe is either 16 or 20 oz) and most range from $3 - $4.50. My favorite smoothie is a basic: Honewdew, followed by Mango. I've tried the Pineapple which was stringy because they use real pineapple. I also adore the tapiocas that they sell for just $1.50 (Flavors that I've tried: Honeydew and Cantalope. Want to try the chocolate) Will definitely be back especially after a bowl of pho :) read more

The HAPPIEST place on earth! I believe this is probably the best place in Hawaii to grab fresh fruit smoothies and drinks! They use fresh fruits for all of their drinks, and you can definitely taste that in every sip. And only $3-4.50 per drink! My favorite is probably the strawberry kiwi with bubbles. My friend loooooves the salty lemon. I don't come too often since parking is difficult, but anytime I'm in the area, I stop by here. The people who work there are so nice!
