The problem with reviews, is you never know who is doing the reviewing…read more When I came to read reviews here about this office, it was disappointing and I almost did not go. But then I moved on to reading reviews somewhere else, and found conflicting opinions . The bottom line is, I'm glad I gave this office a chance because this is my review . First, let me say, just like most people, I do not look forward to the dentist. But I had to find a new dentist that accepted my new insurance. When I first contacted the office to ask about my insurance, they told me they would check and verify if my insurance would be accepted, and that's exactly what they did! The communication was excellent! When I arrived I found everyone at the front desk to be friendly, but still professional. The first person to work with me was a dental assistant named "Misha" and she was nothing short of fantastic. She was friendly, compassionate and immediately put me at ease. Then came Dr. Tepedino "the dreaded Dentist", he turned out to be very personable, he has a very calm demeanor and not an alarmist at all. He did NOT try to "sell" me on something I did not need. To the contrary, he told me what he thought was the problem and how to fix it, a dentist can tell you anything, I mean .... what do we know, right?! As he was working on me, he told me basically what he was doing, it was reassuring, professional and a very nice personal touch. I truly believe that if I went to a "corporate" dental office like Aspen etc, they would have tried to hard sell me on various different things. Dr. Tepedino and his staff did not do this at all! When I got home and the numbing went away, I felt the temporary crown was a little sharp, so I called, and rather than being told it was "normal", or given an excuse, they asked if I could come back in (same day) to take a look. I went back and Misha made a slight adjustment and made sure I was comfortable, it seemed to me that they really cared. This was my first time in this office, and from this first experience, I think I have found my new dental office! FOLLOW UP - Yesterday I went back to get the crown, I asked in advance if I needed o be numbed or if there was going to be any discomfort because I had a big Valentines Day dinner planned, instead of just saying "it will be fine", they checked with the staff and reassured me that I did not need to be numbed and it would be easy. Well, once again, they were HONEST and correct! It was easy, this time I had Gwen working on me and her many years of experience is obvious, she was great! Her attitude and personality was GREAT! In other offices the dental assistant might be the only one that put he crown in, but not here. Dr. Tepedino came in to finish the job and to make sure it was right and I was happy, which I was. This office get the highest marks from me!

Everything was going so smoothly until we got to the final prototype. A prototype that seemed to have been changed. Very uneven bite, big uncomfortable for me to do normal functions with my mouth. So much even that the bottom implant screws loosened while i was at work and i had to leave. Dr. Fred, the dentist that did my surgery didn't even see me in person that day and sent snarky messages through his assistant and blamed me for eating the wrong foods. I asked for adjustments before the finals but was gaslit and ended up with no adjustments. I went back many times after and ultimately i wanted this mess out my mouth. Now it feels like the top is getting worse and maybe loosening. I don't wanna go back there. Fred treated me like a secondary human. But i will get something done about these ill fitting dentures in my mouth very soon!

Turns out, Carlson should have taken a less invasive, more cost effective procedure first. Most recently, I was told that one of my molars was cracked and needed a crown. When asked if there were any other options, I was flat out told no. So, I asked what my insurance was going to cover and was told 50% (which matched my policy). I asked what my out of pocket cost was going to be, so they gave me an "estimate of charges." Come to find out, they don't actually contact your insurance to get a real quote or to obtain approval. I was told that they give you an estimate based on your policy, or what they can pull from the web. Had they communicated with my insurance like I asked them to do, they would have been told it would not be covered. So, in short, they guessed. And I get to pay for it. I also found out that it's a legitimate practice to accept someone's insurance but bill them under a SHARED SERVICES carrier. This means, there is NO contracted rate and YOU have to pay the entire bill when they deny it. Seems to me, this is a very effective loop-hole for medical provides. How is that fair? And what's to stop any medical provider from pulling this on people?!? I had been going to Carlson for the last 5+ years, and previously had nothing but good things to say about them. Now, I'm left in disbelief that they would do this to people. I do not recommend them and would warn other patients to call on your benefits yourself. Clearly, they won't!
