This is a solid place for some Mexican food in Safford. I find myself visiting Los Jilbertos a few…read moretimes a week when working at the Morenci Mine. So far I've had a few of their breakfast burritos and their tortas. The breakfast burritos are so big that they're often a breakfast/lunch burrito. Can't go wrong with a carne asada or carnitas burrito. The torta is a traditional Mexican sandwich in a soft loaf of bread (similar consistency to Hawaiian bread). These are an amazing dinner... Again, can't go wrong with a carne asada or carnitas torta. The bread is lightly toasted making the sandwich a great combination of textures and flavors. Keep in mind, they are CASH ONLY. Also, their full menu is available 24/7.

When ordering, I always say no but she always asks, which is fine but this time she didn't. In fact she remembered me and the 2nd item I always get, a cup of carne asada for my dog I always bring with me, which is great on her customer service. I figured she'd remember how I like my burro as well. But my complaint is that the breakfast burros literally tell you on the menu which ones have potato and the steak egg and cheese does not. I ended up getting potato's in my burro. All other people running the register the last 20 years had never done this. I never want them because 3/4 of the burro always ends up as potato. I tried calling just to let them know but no answer hence the review I'd normally never leave. Steak egg and cheese should not have potato's unless requested.

WTF happened to this place?!?!?!! Bought some tortillas recently. So ugly. Burned, stiff, weird…read morecolor, just yuck! Nothing like what it use to be. Gone are the pretty, pliable, same as grandma's fresh yummy smelling tortillas that the valley has enjoyed for two decades before things went downhill. Every visit I give them another chance. So what changed? Oh, new owners 5 years ago (maybe more). The same sad story, they change ingredients to save money and result is a disaster. Stores, restaurants and customers drop off. How do I know, the employees shared what's the real story. The 30 day "training" period was completed ignored by the new owners, who btw knew nothing about running a food production business. (It's not empanadas out of your mother-in-law's kitchen) Of course the owners won't admit they ruined a good thing. They don't even spend time there. No personal investment or interest to get it right. But public opinion prevails. My disappointment even goes to the tortilla chips. I've bought them for over 15 years. Used to be awesome. Now, just crap!! It's like gambling, will it be a good batch or stale, stuck together, clumpy salted bag (if salted at all though label says sea salt) of flavorless corn masa. Note to manager, tell employees to STIR the chips as the cook!!! (And start with a good corn tortilla) Last but not least the place got a facelift. New logo and paint job. Trying to be hip I guess but obviously not a trained designer. Who buys food from a grey/black building?? Appetizing, NOT! The logo could be a hair salon or wart ointment. Plain, unimaginative, clip art, nothing that says fresh tortilla factory. The place has all kinds of tortillas and food products. But that doesn't matter if you can't master a simple flour tortilla that was once an incredible product. Sadly all the hype comes from those that don't know the difference. That didn't visit the shop long ago.

The Young Lady working the register and Waitress was very friendly. Highly recommend Mechy's - their other location in Clifton, Arizona is also a great place to eat. I ordered the Carne Asada burrito and it comes plain so I added the pico de gallo for like $.50 which I thought was a great deal. I asked for lemon or lime and they don't have any. Cindy took care of me and she was really sweet so of course I gave her a tip at the register where I ordered. She brought me chips and a salsa. The salsa was not hot at all. It's more of a tomato with a very slight, and I do mean SLIGHT spice/seasoning. There was a seven-year-old little girl sitting on the table behind me and even she said it was not spicy. I wish the burrito meat had been fresh, but mine was old tasting, dry and hard - and definitely needed seasoning. Inside is nice and there's plenty of seating. I think my favorite thing was that the salt shaker was clean. This place stays really busy.

Customer service isn't the best. For the most part, the Waitresses are friendly and they really try, although they seem to get overwhelmed when busy. Not their fault. The cooks don't help as they are very slow! Be prepared for an extended wait ‍ it's Safford. Not many choices in town to get great service. Now the food isn't bad. Great Steak Picado & Eggs - Tacos are very good. Their Green Enchiladas (Chicken - Beef - or Cheese) are delicious. They do have Menudo on the weekends ( 4 out of 10) - just expect an extended wait when you visit, if you're lucky enough to get a table ‍‍ sometimes I just choose to walk out and take my chances at one of the two places in town to eat breakfast at! I've shared my customer concerns with management, but they don't seem to care ‍ Plus they frequently close down for the weekend ànd/or close either at 12 noon or 2/3 pm. We keep going back cause it's a nice cozy - home town restaurant with as close to home style American/Mexican Food you'll get in this area of Eastern Arizona! I still recommend it! oh, I do see here reviews from as back as 10 years ago I don't believe that's fare either they have gone through change in ownership in the last few years, so please give them a try and post your review - experience. Thank you.

So even when it took a little longer to get food the service made up for it. Breakfast came in fresh off the stove and perfectly cooked. My eggs and bacon were wonderful. The potatoes were cooked well but in my opinion a little bland. I asked for some salsa to add to my potatoes to fix them and then all was good.
