Don't you hate it when you spend a crapload of cash on frozen stuff at Costco, only to get to your car & find out it won't start!?? ME TOO!!! And that's what happened to me today. My regular mechanic wasn't answering his phone & that's when I walked to the 1st auto shop, who sent me to the garage, who literally said, "You have to get it here yourself & then I can't even LOOK at it for a week". Then further up 10th to a mechanic who couldn't be bothered. To across the street to Sals. I spoke with Edwin who guessed that I might be out of gas, and trusted me enough to borrow his gas tank. I offered my driver's license, I offered to pay, & he refused. He pointed me in the direction of the gas station & off I went. Long story short - I got the car to start & returned the gas can to Sal's. Edwin thinks it's because I never drive my car, so I'll definitely bring him my car for the tune-up. And you should too! Today was PROOF that there still are people in this city who care. Thank you Edwin! You're a rock star!!!! read more

Karina is the best!!! Very trustworthy and reliable!!! I have a 2017 Mercedes and they did an excellent job with the services and repairs. Will always come to Sals Autohaus when it comes down to it my car! Excellent shop for Mercedes vehicles they do quality work with reasonable prices. read more

This place used to be good, now it sucks big time because somehow honesty went a different direction... My mechanic at the time wasn't capable of fixing my issue even after hundreds of dollars. I won't even go to this shop for a brake job... This place sounds more reasonable than competitors but in fact it turns out to be more expensive than competitors because they couldn't deliver the promised result for me. It seemed as if it was fixed but the labor was so cheap, it ended up costing me more in follow up repairs cause by the poor labor here... Poor labor, unethical business practices. read more

Very dishonest work and Karina tries to over talk you into getting something fixed on yur car that has nothing to do with the problem of yur car. Had to take my car back to have them fix it right and got half of my $ back! Don't take yur car b/c they will over charge you with doing dishonest work read more

I'm biased because I've been in that particular place cause it's was like my home away from home as a kid. Sal isn't the same owner but the new lady that runs it is very good about running the business. She definitely doesn't forget good customers or who has been around for a while. She definitely shows love and will work with you. As for the mechanics, Izzy is my guy. He is an expert mechanic who inspires me to learn and put my mind to something specific. He is truly an artist with his problem solving and mechanics. His integrity is next to non existent in people you will meet in todays age, truly an honest straight up guy. Love you guys! You already know. read more

Karina the owner is very nice and helpful. She explains everything clearly and her team does good work.

I've been taking my '82 Mercedes 300D to Sal's Autohaus for the last 15 years. I've owned the car for almost 20 years, so there were a few years of the other shops which are more expensive and really don't get this vehicle that I tried early on. With a 40 year old car there are always more things to fix, but Isreal keeps the repairs modest and focused on what we need to keep the car dependable and running well. I would not trust another shop with a Mercedes, especially the older models. Beyond this, Isreal is a fantastic person that is kind and honest. read more

I had excellent service on my 2014 Mercedes diesel suv. I was leaking coolant just before the holidays and Karina's crew went above and beyond to help me out quickly and affordably. She also noticed I was in need of new brakes which I had suspected myself. When I said I had plans to drive to the mountains for the holidays she managed to fit me in before my trip so I could drive safely. Karina is honest and hard working. She made every effort to help me keep costs down as it was a very difficult time for me to have such costly repairs. I am so grateful for her sympathy and expert service. I will be back again for other repairs! read more

Best auto service experience I have ever had. Very honest and kept me involved with the process and parts I needed, showed me the part inside of the car even that needed to be replaced. I really appreciated their style and how they communicated with me as the customer. Was very comfortable and personable. And very quick! I definitely will be going back for future needs. read more

I just got my 2002 BMW back from Karina and Alex at Sals Autohaus and I am extremely satisfied my car is running beautifully and they worked with me on the price. They did great work for a really reasonable price.I highly recommend taking your car to them they were recommended to me by the tow truck driver that picked up my dead car from the interstate and they had it running in less than 24hours for a fair price.I am extremely satisfied read more

I love Sal's Autohaus. I take my 2013 Mercedes C250 here for a/b service as well as anything else that comes up. Israel has treated me with the same level of respect as a friend. Isreal and his team are the best!! They offer an excellent deal for Mercedes Benz and if you have one we all know how expensive maintenance can be. Israel is honest, responsive, and easy to get to. My car is a 2007 Mercedes CLK350. I was able to bring my car in without an appointment and drop it off for a routine service a job. The price quoted $145 was also reasonable. The work was also finished in one day. All of this was great. The downside was that when I pick my car up I was charged $173. They changed two bulbs in my car that I did not ask for and charged me for that plus some environmental fee and tax that doesn't add up. While they were working on my car I received a call saying I need new rear rotors and brake pads and new front brake pads. The price they were charging seemed high. Brought the car home to my regular mechanic and he told me my front brakes are fine my rear brakes needed to be done and it cost me way less. read more

Sal's is the best. He saved my life or at least my cars life. I purchased a junky 82 Benz hoping to go veggie. Everything was broken on this car. Unknowingly I had made a pretty big mistake. My friend told me he goes to Sal and that his work is great and his prices are fair. So I took it to Sals. I couldn't be happier! He took me under his wing. He not only helped me feel better about the stupid purchase I had made he assured me he could get this little baby back on the road. He said"the Benz is like and old tractor, it needs oil and everything else can always be fixed". He also said we needed to prioritize the work so I could get the important things done first. Wow! It was such a huge help. He got the Benz running like a top. I love my car now. He stayed in my budget and was fun to work with. Also, I didn't feel like I was gonna get ripped off at any point. Or that he wouldn't make the best choices for my car. I knew he would. He's very honest and experienced. I'm heading off on a road trip this weekend and it's all because of Sal Autohaus. Sal and his people are wonderful "real" people and I would certainly recommend them to anyone with any kind of car. Thanks Autohaus, you were my lifeboat in a sea of sharks!!! read more

Sal's Autohaus - The Benz! Pretty sweet ride now! - Auto Repair Near Me - San Francisco, California

As a Mercedes owner for 20 years, I highly recommend Sal's Autohaus. Israel is friendly, honest pricing and knowledgeable Mercedes inside out. I was unable to turn the key, wheel locked after battery died of this 2002 ML 500. The worst, the car was stuck in a San Francisco underground garage at Level 5. Before I called Sal's Autohaus, there were 3 Mercedes Roadside assistances & 2 tow trucks came, no one was able to turn the key to get the car to start, nor to tow my ML 500 out of the parking ramp. Of course, I called SF Mercedes dealer. No technician can be sent out to mobile repair my car. I was stuck. Israel answered the phone when I called Sal's Autohaus. I was surprised that he agreed to come without even any on-call service charge. Then, to my surprise again, he started my car in a very short time. My car got out the garage and running again!! I give this repair shop 5 stars. read more

Both headlights on my car went out and I wasn't sure if it would be just burned out bulbs or something more. Israel helped me change the headlights out on a 2001 SLK. I dropped by without an appointment and he was able to help me right away. The whole process took about 10 minutes as he was able to swap out the bulbs which was all it needed. He charged me just for the price of the lights which was cheaper than I expected and all in all seemed like a really fair price. I would definitely recommend Sal's to anyone - Israel was extremely helpful! read more

This indie auto repair shop is THE place to take your beloved old school mercedes benz when she's ailing. They specialize in these cars and in diesel engines. But what makes it a pleasure is how incredibly warm and kind, and fair and honest the service is. I felt instantly at ease from the moment I said hello, plus received great advice on what to look for in a used car, along with what's fair regarding the going rates. Although I hope that I won't have a reason to go back again soon, this place will get all of my future business when the needs do arise! read more

Do you have an old Mercedes Benz? Want to go veggie or bio-diesel? Then you need a good mechanic. But congrats - because you have found one - seriously, look no further. Sal and his team are amazing - I cannot count how many times he has performed on the spot repairs for free, or identified a quick fix that prevented unnecessary, time consuming and costly repairs. Here's some examples of on the spot work, most of which was free: * fixed my vacuum hoses preventing my car from stopping - could have charged me hundreds of dollars - fixed it in 2 mins on the spot for free * fixed a leaky tire - noticed it & fixed it free without my even asking * fixed a major problem with my sway bar connector to my front wheel - used a spare part & his know-how * fixed wiper motor - didn't have to replace it * organized a complete repaint job via an outside firm, no benefit to him I am restoring a 1984 300D - and its a bit of a labor of love. But no one knows these old guys like this shop. I would say that he has performed 15-20 repairs on my car - from very minor to semi-major, and every one has been perfect. Sal will even tell me what parts I need for restoration, and I can scour the web to buy them, and when I have them, I simply bring it all in and just pay for labor. Seriously - who lets you do that? No one, that's who. read more

I must have amazing karma. Finally an auto-repair place that treats me like a human and not a "stupid girl"...all the employees here are friendly and helpful. Took the old surf-mobile into the shop for its 90,000 prostate exam and was pleasantly pleased with how they handled everything. She runs tighter than a bullfrog's buttocks now, and that's tight... water tight. If you have an older Mercedes, this is the only place in the Bay Area to go for service. I brought my beloved 1975 300D to Sal and was delighted with his friendliness and professionalism. Everything was totally straightforward and I immediately got the sense that I could trust his shop with my car. He addressed each of my reported problems and the resulting fixes were less extensive and less expensive than I had thought. He even located and fixed an illusive fuel leak. I am really happy to have a shop that I can trust to do quality affordable repairs and service for my rare older car. read more

Sal is amazing! I have an old Mercedes diesel that had been sitting neglected in a garage for 4 years. I had the car towed to Sal, and he nurtured it back into running condition in less than a week, and it cost less than I was expecting. Also, he converted the car so it can run biodiesel now. It feels really great to know that there's an expert I can bring my Mercedes diesel to. Sal also gave me a bunch of tips on things to look out for and quick fixes for small problems. I feel like my car is in great hands. read more

This is a long overdue review for Sal and his team. I've been coming here for years with my old 300SD and also my 300D and he has always extremely helpful and fair priced. For old diesel Mercedes you need an expert, not just a regular old mechanic! And that's exactly what makes sal different than everyone else, he's passionate about these cars and knows why my car won't turn on (dead glow plugs) or why it wont turn off (misplaced vacuum lines). Were talking about components that other "normal" cars don't even have!!!! He's a gem and I can honestly say I don't know what I'd do (or how I'd get anywhere) without him and his team. read more

Sal's Autohaus is great...Sal (big Sal) Israel and little Sal are professional, prompt and fair. I've had so many good experiences bringing our 1981 veggie oil 300 TD to the shop that I can't think of the best one...maybe the time I came to pick up the car, and they weer grilling carne asada on a Weber right there in the garage. They offered me a plate with tortillas and all the fixins!!!! Apart from the food, if you have an older Mercedes that needs some TLC, there is NOWHERE BETTER. Sal has even called me up out of the blue because he was dismantling a 300 TD just like ours and knew I wanted new seats, a steering wheel, etc... Good shop, great people. Tell them I sent you, you won't be disappointed. A small disclaimer...they may not answer the phone right away (especially at lunch time) but they get back to you promptly. read more

Having moved to the Bay Area recently, I found it challenging to find a reputable Mercedes repair shop. My s430's alarm went off at 200am so I took it immediately in the morning to Sal's after reading positive reviews about them. Israel was very accommodating and helpful and got me out of the shop in 20minutes! Such a great deal and great customer service! I'll be taking my car here for future repairs. read more

Sal's Autohaus - Auto Repair Near Me - San Francisco, California

I moved to LA earlier this year and finally needed to get my newer Benz serviced. I'm not much into Dealers, so began the search for independent shops in LA. This sure made me miss Sal and appreciate him all that much more. Sal is honest, smart and extremely knowledgeable. Not to mention, he's a really good guy. He goes through everything that needs to be done, the costs, benefit, and will try to keep you from spending too much when it may not be worth it. He is a mechanic that should be respected and appreciated for his approach and abilities. He runs a great shop. I noticed he had a 'negative' post, which make me chuckle a little bit. In my opinion, any one who can't get along with Sal or doesn't think Sal is one of the best mechanics on the planet was probably disrespectful to him or his staff. Bring your Benz to Sal, you and your Benz will be happy you did. Now if we could franchise or clone him for Southern California...... read more

I brought in my 2007 E320 Bluetec diesel for an oil change and general check-up in early April 2014. The shop was able to track down the precise synthetic oil I needed, and change and upgraded d the filter. Most of the associated cost was for the oil, and he brought it in at only a bit more than if I purchased the oil myself and brought it in (which he suggested, so an oil change without the oil would be around $25. Sal checked out car and engine, and said no other work needs to be completed. I was in and out in less than an hour. I'm returning here!! I recommend this shop for all MBZ Diesel owners read more

I took my car there because it is an '86 and wasn't idling. I had them remove the carburetor so that I could take it to a specialist since they are incapable of fixing carburetors. The specialist told me there was nothing wrong with my carb, and that it was the stepper motor, and to have the mechanic check the computer of the car to see if it was telling the SM to drill too far into the carb. When I brought the carb back and told them what was needed they didn't listen to me. They put the carb back on and called me a couple days later saying it was fixed and charged me $250. Well, it wasn't fixed. They didn't actually do anything. And when I called to ask him if he even did what the specialist had asked and checked the computer he told me he didn't know how to do that; something he should have told me when I first asked him to. I said, "So you charged me $250 to take the carburetor off and put it back on and didn't actually do any work?" and he said yes. Wow. If you have a simple problem I'm sure they're great but don't take your car here if you need an actual skilled mechanic. read more

I was at Sal's today with my 1976 Mercedes 240D and I was concerned with my dash brake-light was staying on. I had Sal diagnose a squeaky wheel, sounded like a bearing. He wanted to do a brake job instead and some suspension components. He knew that my budget was $300. but tried to get $800. for work I didn't want done. He charged me $45. for just looking at my 1979 240D, which was a complete suprise. I am lucky to get out of Sal's for that little damage, albeit for no work done. I won't go there again. read more

Sal is nothing but a trickster masquerading as an auto mechanic. I went to his shop today after reading all these wonderful, glowing tributes. I guess they were paid appreciations. Here is what happened. This morning at 8:30 I took my wife's Audi to Sal's shop. My wife had noticed oil leakage the evening before and I wanted to try out Sal since he specializes in German cars. The intent was to bring my Mercedes to him next for maintenance. I thought if he did a good job on this, I could make him the stable mechanic for both our cars. Unfortunately, my experience should be a red light for any who consider Sal's Autohaus. Sal told me he will inspect the car, and call with a diagnosis at around noon. At 11am, he called me to tell me that the car had a lot of oil allover the undercarriage, and it needed to be steam cleaned before diagnosis. He further went on to make assessments if its worth repairing the car. I told him its unacceptable to a patient if a doctor instead of giving diagnosis demands he take a shower and talks about end of life without advancing any clue as to problem. He blew a fuse and said its best I came and picked up the car. The matter did not end there. When I arrived to pick up the car at 12 pm he demanded that I pay $45 for inspection. I was not willing to part with any money for an unprofessional auto diagnosis that was nothing but cosmetic e.g. steam cleaning, and demanded for the car keys. I got the keys and left on a torrential abuse of 4 letter words from Sal. Needless to say he lost a potential customer and perhaps stands to lose more with this post. I would think twice before using Sal and his services. Unprofessional and semi skilled would be the best descriptions that I can give to Sal. Good luck if you persist being his client. read more

I love this place! Sal the owner is super nice! Called in to see how much they charge for an oil change. Sal told me he's doing a special, if I bring in my own oil and filter he'll charge me $12!!! What a fucking bargain! I'm Definitely coming back! Thanks Sal! read more

I must have showed up at the wrong time...? They told me to bring the car in, I did, was in the middle of a conversation with Sal and he left. Literally, just walked out. Not explanation, nothing. Then and it sat for 5 days! I called called called. No one picks up the phone. Had to go pick it up and take it to someone else...
