Though the location has changed in the past, Saloon 1 or One Saloon has been around Key West since the early 80's and has pretty much always been its only gay leather bar, and for what it is, not a bad one even though rather than a daily or nightly thing, rarely draws much of a crowd except on event or special occasion weekends. Billing itself as the only place "where real men come to play," it is amazing to me is that it is still going and still surviving what is the obvious gentrification of Key West along with what appears to be a notable gay residential flight from the Key West area. Though the main entrance was is off Pretronia Street, however you can also enter through small hallway located inside the 801 Bourbon Bar. Yes, it's dark, somewhat dingy and divey in appearance but that is pretty much in keeping with what a gay leather bar is not only supposed to be but also supposed to look like. The patrons here tend to be older but pretty much dressing the part with leather harness, biker type hats. It's definitely not the twinkie or disco swim suited go go boy crowd that you might find at the gay Bourbon St. Bar located at nearby 724 Duval. While here I viewed a few goings on such as a single tail session. It wasn't bad, but though obviously done by some rather seasoned veterans, sort of amateurish and unaccomplished as real into it players would be. I found the people there likeable enough, basically friendly and without attitude, but seeming all knowing they are a part of what is a dying or what is becoming a very limited breed in the Key West area.

This is truly a relaxing place to be yourself and not be stressed about anything. The pool area…read morehas a laid back atmosphere whether you're there at 7 AM or 7 PM and you are sure to enjoy good conversations and drinks with your fellow guests. Service at the cafe is very attentive and the staff are good at noticing when your drink is getting low and seeing if you want another one, as well as clearing away used cups to keep the area clean. I was really impressed that the happy hour for guests is not significantly "nerfed" down, with plenty of options available in every category of wine, beer, and mixed drinks so there is sure to be something you'll enjoy that is included. The key lime martini is quite good and you should definitely give it a try!

Island House used to be the vacation destination for us. This was our first stay since the remodel…read moreso it's been a few years. OK, where do I start? I'll start with the positives and then get to the negatives and rank them in order. Positives: 1. The palm trees and lush vegetation. 2. The decorations for pride and their 50th anniversary. 3. The food is still reasonably good, although the prime rib came out cold. 4. The rooms have been generally remodeled to be more modern. Negatives: 1. The room is cool in the morning, warms up by late afternoon, is hot by 9 PM, and doesn't start to cool back off until 2:30 AM. 2. The bar staff plays Spanish music only all day until you ask the front desk to have it switched to English to which the bar staff takes offense. 3. The bar staff is more interested in watching the FIFA soccer tournament than actually waiting on any guests. 4. The further you went back into the room away from the front door the weaker the Wi-Fi signal got until there was no signal. 5. The soap dispenser leaked onto the towels hanging on the towel bar below it. Instead of having it fixed, the towels were put on the floor. 6. The gang shower between the gym, indoor Jacuzzi, and steam room area smells like sewage. 7. The sitting area above the stairway and at the end of the hall next to room 210 is covered in and reeks of pigeon feces. See attached pic. Although the front desk and management are responsive, it used to be that these things were taken care of without guests needing to point them out or request they be fixed. Not sure if it's due to staff turnover and/or management turnover but hopefully this review will be taken seriously and help future guests as we will not be coming back anytime soon. My overall rating is a 1 because the negatives far outweigh the positives in importance for the price you pay. And when prices are raised, you would expect the service level would raise as well or at least stay the same, which, in this case has not. Please remember that you're in the HOSPITALITY SERVICE industry. This is basically lipstick on a pig.

An extremely unique ambience and decoration. But it's not too much or too little. The seating is comfortable and private. Our server was very nice, he checked in at all the right times and was sweet. We only ordered one dessert and it got there promptly. Everything on the menu looked excellent and delicious. We settled on the cookie nookie cake, it was super fresh with many contrasting flavors that made every bite a pleasure. Overall had an amazing time and recommend this place for anything from a late night dessert or a full dessert meal. If we're ever around again, we are definitely going back and trying a lot more than just one dessert.

We went on Sunday evening around 6pm and were able to be seated right away. (We weren't sure if we were dressed appropriately.) They gave us an intro of their menu and shared favorites. We ordered the fourgasm and French kiss cocktails. It was so so so delicious. Our favorite was the red velvet cheesecake. We also got the key lime dessert. I don't like pie so this was the perfect way to experience the key lime desserts. 10/10 I'll be back.

Real easy to walk right past it without a second thought. But step inside... and now you're in a whole different story. The décor can shift with the mood, like the place is alive and just decides to reinvent itself whenever it feels like it. You go in thinking it's just a quick stop. Then the drinks start flowing, the room starts buzzing, and next thing you know you're laughing louder than you planned, talking longer than you expected.
