I'll admit, there was a bit of panic when I found out Hair It Is was closed (okay, a big panic, especially as I'd waited to get my roots done until I was in Sedona and was becoming more and more brunette by the minute), but luckily I was able to find her here thanks to Yelp. She was able to get me in just hours after I called (conveniently someone else canceled - usually she's pretty busy so you'll want to book ahead). The cut and color were perfect. Perfect! On top of her phenomenal technical ability, Sherri's such a sweetheart and it's always a pleasure to see her. The salon itself is really nice, modern and spacious. And the reclining chairs at the shampoo sinks? Pretty much the most genius thing to ever happen to the salon world.

After we called to make the appointment, appreciated the text message appointment confirmations to our phone. Our son is picky, told Monica what he wanted. She went to work. She is thorough and quick. He wanted to keep it medium length, which is exactly what he got. Not too long, not too short. A ton of hair on the floor. The salon is in Rimrock which is one highway exit away from Sedona (Village of Oak Creek). About twenty minutes total drive for us. They are located on a small row of shops, plenty of parking. Rimrock is way more laid back and not nearly as busy as Sedona. Small pockets of business here and there. The salon itself was small but very nice. I personally love the smell of nail polish and a customer enjoyed a manicure in the salon. They also had a little shelf with snacks which is a wonderful touch. Our son is really glad he found this place. He saw other friends' haircuts in Sedona and did not think that would work for him. So glad we found Monica in Rimrock. I booked an appointment with the owner - Autumn - based on a recommendation from my other stylist (at a different salon in Sedona) who was unavailable and was honest about when I asked if she could do ombre hair coloring (she didn't have the skills or experience). I had been growing out my natural, darker hair during the first 9 months of my pregnancy (photo below of me in the bright pink dress) and wanted to do something nice for myself before my first baby arrives for some self-pampering and to feel beautiful with a fresh "do". I loved my softer, warmer, healthier, darker blonde tones and had grown accustomed to it during my pregnancy. I thought ombre would be a really lovely color technique to brighten up my hair in a subtle way before baby arrives and I was SO excited when I found someone who SAID they could do ombre. Boy was I wrong. Autumn bleached the heck out of my hair that I spent 9 MONTHS growing out and did a horrible trim of my layers! This happened after we had THREE conversations about what I was looking for - over the phone when I booked the appointment, a week before the appointment when I stopped in to show her the photo of what I was wanting (photo is below from a website I found on google), and when I arrived for my appointment. She assured me she could do it and knew what she was doing. I let her know immediately when she was done that this wasn't what I wanted, and it was WAY more blonde than I wanted. She offered for me to come back the following week at no charge to "fix" it, but there is no fixing bleached hair and returning it back to your natural color - bleach is bleach. You have to wait months for it to grow back out. And, the damage to the hair is already done with blonde. There's no repairing that. I got home and was furious. I hated my hair so much, I went to go put it in a ponytail so I didn't have to look at it and then I discovered how much gloss stain was still on my skin around my face! (photo below) I requested a refund through her Square payment processing (got no response). I called a few days later. Her husband answers the phone, takes my message that I want a refund and that I don't trust her to come back to "fix" what she did. She said she would call me back. Autumn still hasn't called me back and it's been TWO WEEKS. I let my normal stylist know what happened and she felt horrible. She spoke with Autumn, and confirmed that Autumn said she would give me my money back. Well, that still hasn't happened. Who runs their business this way? Terrible customer service and grossly misleading. Never, ever say you can do something (ombre) when you clearly can't. Please think twice before supporting a business owner who does something like this, especially to a pregnant woman!
