On the day it was dyed it looked like this. This was Friday 2/8/24.

Leaving this review on my mom's behalf, per her request: She went in to get a salt and pepper hair dye done, as she's going grey and wanted it to look better. However, she went in at 11 am and was out of the salon until 3 pm. During this time, the man working on her hair constantly left her, talked to others, and left to move his car from the street parking it was in. The total cost for this service was $157. All of the dye washed off the next day in the shower. Even before washing off, there were parts of her hair left uncovered. The hair that had been blonde (through her dyeing it) is now orange and her hair is gummy. We called to request a full or partial refund, however, were offered a chance for them to fix it. We called back to say she doesn't want them to fix it as she is already having a hard time with the way her hair looks, and just wants a refund. They refused and said they needed to see it and fix it.

Okay so after looking for a great salon that really cares about how you look, I finally found it. Chris is amazing!! He does such a great job. He is honest. If your hair is not going to look good at the end he will tell you, but also suggest to you what will look good. They have the best products to take home. My hair is so much softer and longer. I HIGHLY recommend both Chris and Omar to anyone that come here. Me & my daughter always have the cutest hair styles when leaving the salon!!

Great experience here at salon viejo, was looking for a nice salon in echo park and not have to spend an arm and a leg to get a decent cut... Found this place, called in and made an appointment right away Luis helped me out and cut my hair, he was very nice, polite and easy to talk to, i felt very comfortable with him and the salon, everyone knows going to a new salon / hair dresser can make anyone nervous, but not the case with Luis and salon viejo... Life savers! I walked-in with botched up bleached and dyed hair and walked out with amazing, beautiful copper red hair. Kris and Aracely both worked in my hair. They were both kind & funny. They kept checking on me to make sure my scalp wasn't burning, which it wasn't! This morning I woke up thinking I'd have to go for multiple sessions to correct the damage but they did it in one visit & they did it beautifully. read more

I love coming here with my mom as a mom and daughter date. The hair stylist starts you off with making SURE to ask all of the questions to give you the cut and color you want. If you don't know what you want and yet are a picky or pretentious person then this salon is not for you. The vibes are very welcoming, a beautiful x-mas tree is up rn. HORRIBLE! Do not go to this Salon. I came in and asked for a trim. They cut off 12 inches! And they refused to give me a refund. Horrible quality. I grew my hair out for three years and they ruined it without any care. The man was late to the appointment and really unsafe vibe. read more

I have been a loyal customer for 20 years. I have dyed my hair at Salon Viejo, put extensions, gotten hair cuts, and Brazilian Blowouts. The hairstylists are professional and will ask the customer beforehand what they want done and ask for confirmation. They are welcoming. Great vibes at Salon Viejo. read more

Great experience here at salon viejo, was looking for a nice salon in echo park and not have to spend an arm and a leg to get a decent cut... Omar is a terrible stylist. Baseline, if you can't physically touch clients with care, CHOOSE ANOTHER CAREER. He flicked his heavy scissors on my forehead the entire cut and put his hands on me so aggressively; I seriously questioned what his problem was. He could not execute the cut I wanted; which I will admit was a specific technique and style: a baby bang. But he kept arrogantly saying he could do it, so I stupidly trusted him. Don't do that. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. I walked out of the salon looking and feeling like shit. read more

I called last minute, Chris answered and told me to come in because they had room. I arrived and only waited 5 minutes with super cute Chloe before he started washing my hair and doing the cut! It was fast, affordable and honestly relaxing. I showed him some pics of what I wanted and trusted him. They had a tv which kept me entertained and alsoooo the doggy. Which sat on my lap while he cut the back side of my head. He also blow dried and did my do which was perfect for Friday night! I'm definitely coming back! There is meter parking all around but if your fácing east On Sunset towards the big car wash, make a right on Alvarado and there's parking with no meter. read more

Chris was so awesome! I desperately needed a cut after not having one for 6 months. I called after reading their reviews, and he said he could take me right away. The salon is cozy and you can tell they have been in the neighborhood for a long time. It's not fancy, but Chris' talent makes up for it. He and Omar were so kind and entertaining while I got my cut. I love how I can walk in with a very vague description of what I want that day & Kris nails it every time. Kris has cut, dyed, bleached, stripped, styled my hair. Parking pretty much sucks but that's not the salon's fault. I was able to find parking by the laundry mat. I was too lazy to walk up the hill lol Anywho, as I first walked in it was very awkward because his tone came off as "I'm too busy" type of thing. As I sat there and waited ~45 mins for him to finish with his clients, I noticed that's just the way he actually talks and means no harm by it. Just thought I'd put it out there so you won't have the "what the hell?" first time experience as I did. Finally! It was my turn! He made me feel completely comfortable with my decision. He also made sure to give me tips about my hair. He also makes small convo with whomever he is working, which I highly appreciated! I'll definitely come back. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I had a bunch of hair on my shirt. It could have been the material, but I will never know until I go back. I'll update this as I continue to go ^*^ You won't regret coming here. I'm super picky with everything and I left the salon with a smile on my face :) BTW the man who helped me out was Omar. First of, I have natural long thick hair. I have never dyed in or done anything to it. The thickness, damage and puffiness was out of control so I headed to this location to chop it off. Chris whom had never done my hair recommended that I look into Brazilian Blowout. He recommended it, never said to do it asap but I was so desperate with my uncontrollable hair that I took a chance and told him to do it. He saw I was not sure but assured me that I would be satisfied. I was worried of the chemicals and so on but he reassured me it was to help my hair not damage it. He explained the process and after care blah blah. So I did it along with a trim and OMG I loved it. After showering I do not have to spend time doing my hair. I can just head to work. My hair looks shiny and healthy and not to mention it looks extra gorgeous when I straighten or curl it. read more

I rarely write reviews but in this case I'll make an exception. Salon Viejo is fantastic! I had gotten a haircut elsewhere and I was not happy so I decided to make the drive to LA and it was well worth it. At Salon Viejo they not only fixed my haircut they gave me the most beautiful red highlights. Their energy and talent is phenomenal. I will never let anyone else touch my hair, from now on I will only go to Salon Viejo. Highly recommend this salon. read more

4 years strong and all I have to say no one touches my hair other then Kriss. His whole practice from the products are the best. I bleach constantly and have never had hair fall off or bad reaction from the bleach. Always accurate in hair color and correction. My hair is 4x longer then the first time I came. I was not payed to write this review let alone lie. Highly recommend too people invested in there appearance. Look forward too many more years to come. read more

I ended up booking for Wednesday afternoon, parked nearby the coffee shop. Wasn't a busy day. Arlene is such a hair expert! I told her I prefer short hair for the volume and she showed me some ideas. We decided that a short bob would be best to fix my mess! She did a fantastic job fixing up the uneven pieces, making sure to fix the bangs so it would grow out nicely. She also showed me how to style it at home, since short hair is high maintenance. I'm super happy with how it turned out, and I'll definitely be back when it's time to trim. Hopefully by then I will have learned my lesson!

Through the non-profit "Children with Hair Loss" Du Japon Hair Club was vetted for donations and is the only approved salon in the Los Angeles area. I met Yuki, who owns and operates this salon and also one of the best stylists I've had in my years of barbers. She is so nice and explained the process of the donation and also provided guidance on selecting the best hair cut for me. After looking at a few photos, I decided to go with a moderate cut to ease back into the general population. I was so happy with the results and would recommend Yuki to any of my friends. She will only take appointments and is the busiest during the weekend. I would recommend calling well in advance for your appointment, as she works generally towards the end of the week through the weekend.

Yuki should have warned me that my hair was too fine for this process instead of taking my money to ruin my hair. If she is so experienced and so great she should have known better and know that the process she was doing would ruin my hair. This is my warning to others that are going here to have straightening done. Don't rely on her to tell you it's not right for your hair. To top it off when I called to tell her she did not apologize, she did not act as though she felt bad her response was not caring at all. Not to mention she didn't offer any advice or a refund. Now it will take me years to get my hair healthy and I'm so upset.

She was super comfortable doing my hair and talking to me about what I wanted, and even made suggestions that went along with what my endgame was. I essentially told her I wanted to keep my bangs and my face framing little hair tendrils, and she can do what she wanted with the rest! From there, she asked questions such as how heavy my hair feels regularly/the last time I got it cut, if I like my hair to have volume or sit the way it is and mimicked with my hair how both versions looked, made observations and suggestions on where we could go. Honestly, this was the best experience I've had! She thinned out a lot of my hair as well since it gets pretty heavy for me, gave me a nice shape and my hair more personality, and even layers on the back to make everything more cohesive! Frankie was my wash tech (is that what they're called?) and she was great to talk to about books! She was also very cautious on making sure the water was just right for my scalp. I moved from tge west side and my usual stylist is so far now. She charges $20 for wash, cut n styled blow dry. I figured I could find someone who could cut hairas nicely and as cheaply. My usual stylist takes about 25 minutes to cut my hair in the V shaped, long layered style. This place only too 10 minutes which really alarmed me. It looks more like I have one shoulder length layer and a second mid bk lenth layer.. not cute!!! Its safe to say Ill be spending the extra gas n time to travel to my usual salon for a correction and future cuts. read more

I've been a customer there since I was 15 (I am 22 now) I love Chris and Omar, I never know what I want to do to my hair but I trust them so much, that I never care, I tell them to go nuts, always walk out of there feeling like a princess. Price is very affordable and they are a blast to hang out with. I recommend making an appointment though because if you walk in, you'll be waiting for a while. But the wait is worth it! I have been going to Salon Viejo for over 8 years. Both Kris and Omar work on my hair. I walk in without any idea of what I want but they always know what looks great. I always leave feeling Fab! There is also Annie that works phenomenal on Manicures and Pedicures. And the prices are very good. I recommend them to anyone and everyone. Kris and Omar are the best!!! Kris always styles my hair. I have been going there for 6 years now and I wouldnt change him for any other stylist. The customer service is amazing they both are super nice and I would recommend everyone to go there all my friend are always asking where I get my hair styled. Omar really knows what he's doing when it comes to hair. I specifically asked for a platinum grey and it's exactly how I wanted it, if not better. Awesome prices for awesome service.
