As a young curly girl, I used to fear the scissors because no one was able to give me a nice cut. I went through the phase of straightening my hair and finally trying to go natural. For a couple of years my hair was still not growing, so finally I decided to do the big chop. I'm so glad I did. Sergio was amazing. He took the time to inform me how to style my hair (put all product on when your hair is soaking wet, whaaaaat!!!). He was wonderful, knowledgeable, and easy to speak to. My curls look great and I feel like my hair is healthy. Love him, will definitely be back for a follow up later this year. If you're waiting on jumping to make the cut - take the leap!

I moved to LA last year and was now looking for a new Devachan! I looked at the Devacurl website for certified stylists in my area and saw Curls LA (which was conveniently close to where I lived). I made an appointment with Sergio, I'm always nervous for a new stylist, but after doing some research on him, I was confident in his abilities. My old hair had crazy grown out layers that were limp and made my hair look flat. I asked Sergio for more volume and to make my forehead look less big (LOLOLOL). As you can see from the pic, he gave me bangs, volume and layers! I loved my look and it was perfect for the summer!

Quidad in Santa Monica! Sorry not sorry Curls LA you should of been more caring and professional.

Honestly I was so disappointed in the fact the neither one of these hair stylist even got back to me about any available openings for a appointment. They really dont even deserve 1 star or 1/2 a star. I think it is so disgusting and so unprofessional to not of heard anything back from either one as many times as I tried to reach them, especially when I emailed Sergio personally explaining my situation and needing a appointment if at all possible for my Engagement Photos. If it wasn't possible that's completely understandable but why no effort to contact me and let me know!? To think how excited I was to find this Salon and be let down in such a big way. Fortunately I was able to book a last minute appointment with Quidad in Santa Monica the day of my photos and they took care of me and the women so polite.

    What I asked for

I've been holding off on writing this review for a long time since I was hoping I would grow into the color I was given but 2 months later, I still hate it. I wanted my hair pintura colored (DevaCurl's curl-safe version of color) for my birthday, which is in mid-October. I had been eyeing another popular curly hair salon in LA who is practically known for their beautiful pintura highlights for a long time but their soonest appointment wasn't until late January and I did not want to wait that long so I decided to go with Curls LA in spite of their sparse reviews. I scheduled my appointment through their mandatory online system for a week out from the time of booking which was 3 days before my birthday. I made my appointment with Ashley. Just a disclaimer that this review is in not a bash of Ashley personally as she was decently friendly and accommodating throughout my entire appointment. However, the results I received couldn't be more different than what I asked her for. I wanted an all-over orangey copper color as shown in the image below. When I showed her the image, she told me that achieving that color would take multiple sessions over a year time span and that the woman's hair in the photo I showed her was lightened gradually over time, which I knew for a fact was untrue given I watched the YouTube video of the coloring process for the woman getting her hair done which was done in 1 session and her hair was previously just as black as mine. She told me I'd be better off just getting pintura highlights of that color, which I agreed to because I could tell at that point it wasn't going to turn out right and I figured something is better than nothing. At the end of it all, I came out with the darkest burgundy color as shown in the photo below, which isn't remotely what I asked for. My friends and family who I had shown the picture of what I wanted prior to going were shocked when they saw me because they didn't even notice a difference unless I stood in direct light, which is super disappointing considering the pintura highlights cost $200+. She told me it would get lighter over time and I could always come back for more sessions where we could go lighter, but who has the time and money for that when I know I could've gotten what I wanted in 1 session? Overall I am very very unsatisfied. I figured I could grow to like the burgundy but I have truly grown to hate it and can't wait to dye my hair back black. I can't speak to any of her other skills or service offerings, but if you're looking for color, I highly recommend you choose another place.

I asked for blonde and was turned into carrot top by Sergio. I called another salon and they said they get a lot of clients from Curls LA who need their hair fixed. Soooo...beware. These photos are me FaceTiming my friend after the haircut so we could laugh at how bad I looked.

Love this place, Sergio is my new hairstylist! He is really skilled in all things "Curly Girl" and has the level 3 (highest) certification as a DevaCurl stylist. That's what led me to him, after a search on the DevaCurl website looking for a specialist in curly hair. I believe he used to work at the DevaChan salon before it went under. Sergio is literally the first person who has ever "gotten" my natural hair! I was always just expected to want to blow out/straighten my hair. He knows how to really work with what you have and get the best results with your naturally curly hair so it's bouncy and flouncy. Prices are up there but definitely worth it. I've been here twice now, it's a studio inside Salon Republic. It's gotten really homey and charming since Sergio and Ashley first opened it. I'll definitely be back.

Omg! I just had another AMAZING haircut by the super talented Ashley Elbeck. She is truly a master at what she does. I always leave this friendly salon feeling revived, and my hair always looks gorgeous when she cuts it. She can read my mind, I swear, and knows exactly what I'm looking for in a cut or trim. She educates me constantly on products, how to apply them, and the proper procedure for a perfect curly girl life. Go see Ashley, you will be so glad you did!

YES. FINALLY. Thank god for CurlsLA. My hair has been long for FOREVER and I LOVE my curls. I was reluctant to get it cut, being nervous that it might look terrible but after reading such amazing reviews I was sold on this place. The website made booking super easy and they sent me an email reminder a couple days before the cut. Sergio made me feel amazing and knew so much about hair it blew my mind. Not only did he make me feel welcome and comfortable but he won me over with his warm personality and kindness. He's adorable and so easy to talk to. My hair looks AMAZING and feels great. It's so light and I can't stop shaking my head around. It feels like my curls finally got to wake up and get out of bed. YES The space is absolutely beautiful with natural light pouring in, its begging for a curly selfie to happen. Amazing views of downtown are super close. It's also a quick walk from union station. This is 100% my new stylist for life. 12/10 recommend

Yuji was my hairdresser, and he was so kind, precise, and skilled with my haircut. When I first walked in, I thought, "ah this really is a no frills hair salon," and I'll admit I was a little nervous since it was my first time and I didn't know what to expect. As soon as I sat down, my nerves went away. Yuji was so gentle and attentive, and I felt really well taken care of. My appointment lasted about an hour and included a wash and cut. Parking is validated for up to two hours, which is definitely enough time. I was so happy with my results. I truly don't know how Yuji creates such magic with his hands! I'll be coming here from now on for my haircuts. Please show Yuji and Hair Craft your support by leaving a generous tip. An establishment like this that truly gives you high quality results for such a generous price deserves to be met with gratitude and good tips. Too many salons are charging an arm and a leg for a basic trim these days, and Hair Craft is not one of them. There were only 1-2 stylists working during my visit, so please be patient and make sure to book at least three weeks in advance. When I booked, they were already scheduled out for three weeks, and I overheard them telling other callers the same thing. Thankfully, it was absolutely worth the wait. I can't wait to come back and will definitely be booking with Yuji again. Thank you Hair Craft for such a wonderful experience!!!

You're escorted to the lockers to put your belongings away, given a cozy robe, and immediately made to feel relaxed and taken care of. The service here is honestly unparalleled--even compared to many places I've visited in Japan. The scalp cleansing feels incredible, and the head massage is so amazing that it deserves to be its own standalone service. While you're getting your hair done, they also offer a variety of complimentary drinks and snacks, making the entire experience feel thoughtful and elevated. As for Olivia--she was phenomenal. I came in with no specific hairstyle in mind. I simply pointed out the areas I was concerned about, and she expertly created a look that suited me while explaining what she was doing every step of the way. She gave me practical styling tips and genuinely focused on the long-term health of my hair. What stood out the most was that she never tried to upsell me on products or unnecessary services. Instead, she genuinely cared about making sure my hair was healthy and that I left happy with the results. That level of honesty is hard to find these days. If you're looking for a salon that values quality, craftsmanship, and customer care over making a quick sale, this is the place. The pricing is incredibly fair for the level of service and attention you receive. I can't recommend Olivia enough. I'll definitely be coming back!

However, when it came time to be seen, I was told it had been cancelled. It took multiple receptionists to realize that one of them had accidentally canceled it. The problem is that I was never notified. I didn't receive a cancellation email or text despite having notifications enabled, and no one could explain why I wasn't contacted. If I had been notified, I wouldn't have wasted over two hours driving. What was most disappointing was how the situation was handled. There was no tangible effort to make things right--no attempt to fit me in, prioritize me for another appointment, or offer any accommodation after I had cleared my schedule to see them and spent so much time traveling and waiting. I understand that mistakes happen, but unfortunately, I left feeling like my time wasn't valued, and I can't recommend a salon that handles scheduling errors this way. Additional note: My appointment was originally in August, but I rescheduled for July. I received a cancellation email for the August booking, but never the July one because I didn't cancel it. Edit: They claimed to have offered to schedule me with the soonest available appointment, but what's to guarantee that my appointment isn't mistakenly cancelled again? What's your new procedure to ensure my time isn't wasted? Will I receive an email notification this time? I can also schedule at home for your "soonest available appointment," so ultimately I was still offered poor customer service.

It was my very first time with The Hideout Salon and not only was he understanding of any scheduling rearrangements we had to make, he also made sure to make it a point that we would be setting enough time aside for what we would anticipate needing so that when the time came, there would be zero rush along with top quality service which makes a huge difference in customer experience compared to factory booking which sacrifices quality, time, and attentiveness for squeezing in numbers, and as clients we all greatly appreciate this! While I was waiting Allie was very sweet and settled me in/welcomed me and offered me something to drink. The decor of the place felt very cozy and cute. If youre a dog lover you'll also be very happy to probably see a friendly cute Lil doggo named Carl (Karl?) comfortably shimmying his way around the shop (and if youre scared of dogs dont worry, he really just does his own thing Lol). Hes So darn cute and floofy. I came in for both a color and a consultation for a potential cut. Because I sometimes tend to notice/look at details that others may want to gloss over or perceive as me overanalyzing, it felt really difficult for me to explain to others how my recent haircut from another place just a month or two ago had specific lengths and cuts in specific areas going around my whole hair that had left my previous haircut feeling kind of "off" in certain ways and that I felt was giving my hair the very slight illusion of looking shorter than it actually really was and a little "choppy" in some areas, which then had an effect on how it framed my face/widened it instead of helping elongate it. But when I explained it to Daniel, he totally got it and even held up the individual sections that he agreed were causing those effects, why it was creating the effect that it was and how we would resolve it. I was so happy that he not only truly acknowledges and makes it important to understand where his clients are coming from (whether its concerns or goals etc) but that he also has such skill and knowledge to be able to fully do so and hit the nails right on the head. The color was also beautiful as well and because I wanted something that was healthier than permanent that would also give my hair a healthier appearance (ie shine, softness, gloss etc) he recommended the demi and also mentioned that it would make it easier down the road for me to go lighter if I ever wanted to. The color blended and matched so well with the rest of my hair and everything from the cut to the color made me feel like all of my goals were achieved. Everything Daniel did with my hair left me feeling so *Bonita*, and he was just such a joy to work with and an awesome person all around. Thank you Daniel for this lovely experience :) -------------------------------- Parking: Since the salon is in the heart of Downtown, its best to try and arrive a bit earlier than your appointment time and to be prepared for alot of one way streets and quickly turning into the available open public parking lots closeby before passing the salon (to avoid having to go further down in a circle to get back to the parking again). I believe there are 2 or 3 lots before you pull up to the salon that have big signs that say public parking. If youre driving towards the direction of the salon, out of the 3 the first one youll pass is just self-service/pay which was the one I parked in, and the other two have attendants as you pull up to the salon. Im not sure if both of those allow open access to all, so i will find out the next time I go again :) The front of the salon itself can be very easy to miss so just make sure to park before you even pass it on your GPS and youll see a small little sign over a door that says the Hideout salon when you walk up. There will be a door code for you to enter so just ask the salon for the door code in advance so that youre all set to go when you get there as well :)
