I can't imagine a person with an appointment walking by, seeing an upset 2yo, and then thinking "oh well, I better cancel my appointment because there is a kid crying outside." Parents deserve compassion and help, not shame when a kid is having a tough time. As they were trying to leave, she even went so far as to call security. It was insane. I hope anyone who is looking for a new salon chooses a place that supports and lifts up families, not who makes them feel unwelcome and like they're an inconvenience.

While they were outside, I witnessed a woman, who I was later told is the salon manager, Marisa confront these parents in an incredibly inappropriate manner. She made them feel humiliated, and treated them as if they were doing something wrong simply for comforting their upset child. She even went as far as calling security, claiming they were being disruptive because their child was crying. As a bystander, I was honestly disgusted. Watching someone speak to parents this way, especially when they were calmly trying to support their child, was deeply upsetting. Children have difficult moments, they don't always know how to regulate their emotions, and that's exactly when they need patience and compassion, not hostility. I cannot understand how anyone, especially someone in a position of responsibility, could behave in such a cold and unacceptable way toward a family in that situation. To the salon manager, just do better.

She was using them to finish my hair and I loved how it looked, so I asked her for the rec (there's zero pushing of products from the salon or anything, something I always worry about). She's also given me really helpful home styling tips when I asked. When I first started going to Crystal, I was hyper price conscious of going to the salon for color, and had done some home dye. Crystal wasn't judgemental or offended, and in fact gave me GREAT tips for doing color at home! Her cut prices are super reasonable for LA, especially relative to how good the cut is (it's GREAT). I'm going gray, and strategized a blending plan with Crystal and she's been moving me from dye red to natural dark blonde w/ highlights to blend the gray. She alleviated my worries in making the transition, and hasn't been overly pushy on pricey highlights. She did them in a way that I wouldn't need touch-ups/to get them done regularly, in fact. She also told me what toner/developer to buy from Sally's to tone my hair between appointments, which I really appreciate. I can't believe how much I love my (mostly natural) hair now! She also told me based on what I told her, the cost of my treatment would be from $375-$475. Not only did my treatment cost $550 (plus of course a tip), my treatment didn't even last three months! I understand how long it lasts depends on how often I wash my hair, but I only wash my hair 1-2 times a week. I'm very disappointed that I threw money in the trash. Also, she claimed that it doesn't smell and it smelled awful for the first month minimum every time I washed and blow dried my hair.

Over the next year, she made me believe that she truly cared about me. There were times I'd walk into the salon and she'd be with a high-level client or have 2-3 other clients in the same time slot as me- and would just leave me in the bowl for upwards of an hour, processing. To do my roots and color refresh on my above-shoulder hair took anywhere from 5-12 hours. She constantly canceled. One time she cancelled right before an expensive headshot session I had, forcing me to reschedule both the hair appointment and the shoot which she then canceled, again. I told her if I rescheduled my shoot a third time, I would be charged by the photographer. She curtly replied "I do my best to accommodate clients". Many times I would come home late after a long day of processing in the salon with my head SNOWING flakes. When I texted her pictures of my concerns she would say it was "your body, not the products". Without answers, I would end up having to scrub my scalp repeatedly to get the dead skin from snowing all over my shoulders and lap constantly, fading my expensive color refresh all because I was left in the bowl with dye on my scalp hours past the max processing time, while she attended to other priorities. The final straw came when I booked an appointment months in advance of my sister's wedding, expressing to Larisa the importance of this event in my life. Down to the wire, Larisa cancelled and then talked me into letting Katrina do my hair. I expressed my doubts and was reassured that Katrina would be able to do my hair just like she did it. When I got to that appointment, the spot Larisa told me I could no longer have was actually the result of her putting a new client in my original time slot. She left the salon early. Katrina, who struggled to figure out the hair color and kept holding up pieces of my hair to say "this breakage is not from me okay?" kept me at the salon until after midnight. I was so delirious that I defeatedly agreed to anything after 12 hours. The next morning I woke up and realized my there were LARGE HOLES throughout my hair. When I wrote Larisa my concerns, she suggested I buy more hair products, later suggesting I pay Katrina for hair extensions. Days later I reluctantly texted Larisa again asking if she thought it was a good idea to do extensions on my hair which was breaking off at mid-shaft. I told her I was having a hard time focusing and that my scalp was burned at my appointment multiple times. 7 days later she asked me what I thought had happened. When I told her it felt like a million tiny beads all over my scalp from the damage, she simply said "I'll have Kat text you to resolve this". Since Larisa was both the salon owner and the one I had the initial appointment with, I told her it wasn't for Katrina to solve when she was the reason my hair was messed up in the first place. Her reply: "Please don't put negative ill feelings on me when all I've done is help you and get you in whenever I possibly could". I apologized for hurting her and once again, she went radio silent. Days later I told her I just wanted to move past any hard feelings, that Katrina would no longer reply to my attempts, and that she had refunded me the price of the service but not my extremely gracious tip. Larisa read all my messages and never responded. I started posting stories about how helpless and ugly I felt, and how abandoned I felt in my darkest hours by people I had considered my heroes. I never named Larisa, and yet Larisa continued to watch every single story I posted, never once clicking out. She then posted a story of her talking about how she was sitting in the salon ALL day with "nothing to do" because she had FOUR CLIENT CANCELLATIONS. She went on to say that she considers every relationship with her clients to be "special", and that it wasn't right that so many of her clients had cancelled on her and left her out of work for the day. Even after having a full day open where she could have replied or fit me in for an appointment so we could FIX MY HAIR BEFORE MY SISTERS WEDDING- she continued to leave me on read. When I realized it was no accident: that she had cost me so much money, abandoned me, and refused ANY accountability to me whatsoever, I blocked her. This journey led me to my colorist of the past four years: she has decades of celebrity clients and long waitlists. And yet, she heard my story, and made space in her schedule to try to salvage my hair before the wedding. She could not believe the price this person was charging or the damage she had done on my hair. Take a look at the before and afters- you won't believe it either. My scalp? Never "snowed" again since. Guess it's just "my body" though. The moral of the story is: never trust a hair influencer.

Unfortunately, the quality of her work no longer outweighs the repeated issues I have experienced with scheduling and customer service. Over the years, I have had multiple appointments confirmed only to have them rescheduled because she "forgot" about another commitment she had. Most recently, I requested an appointment and was offered June 19, which I accepted and planned time off work for. The day before, I was told it needed to be rescheduled to June 25. Although I was frustrated, I accepted the new date and let it go. On June 25, I took half a day off work, drove an hour to the salon, and arrived 20 minutes early for my appointment, only to find the salon locked. When I texted, I was told she had forgotten to add me to her schedule and that we would need to reschedule again. She apologized and refunded my deposit, but her only solution was to reschedule despite the fact that rescheduling meant waiting several more weeks. I understand that mistakes happen, but this was incredibly disrespectful of my time, especially given the repeated scheduling issues I have experienced over the years. What made this even more frustrating is that Larisa has publicly spoken on social media about how upsetting it is when clients are late or fail to show up for appointments because it costs her time and money. Those feelings are completely valid, and she has every right to enforce policies that protect her business. However, I found it difficult to reconcile those messages with my own experience as a long-time client. Respect for time should go both ways. Clients also take time off work, spend money on gas, rearrange their schedules, and lose income when appointments are repeatedly rescheduled or, in my case, forgotten altogether. I have been loyal, to a fault, to Larisa and her work for over a decade. I supported her before she opened her own salon, have spent thousands of dollars on services, left positive reviews, and have recommended many people to her over the years because I truly believed in her talent. It is disheartening to say that I can no longer recommend her. Larisa is undeniably talented, but reliability and professionalism are also part of the service clients pay for. After giving this a great deal of thought, I no longer have confidence in the scheduling process or trust that my appointments will be honored. For me, that trust has been lost. Los Angeles is filled with incredibly talented hairstylists who not only produce beautiful work but also value their clients' time and have scheduling systems they can rely on. If you are considering booking with Larisa, I would encourage you to do so only if you have a very flexible schedule and are comfortable with the possibility of last-minute changes. I genuinely wish Larisa the best, but after 10 years as a loyal client, I can no longer support a business where I do not feel my time is respected.
