This review has nothing to do with the stylists, it's purely related to the manager. Yesterday I witnessed her shame two parents whose very young child was having a tough time OUTSIDE the salon as they were walking by. She told them they had to leave because her stylists had to feed their families and it was causing a disruption. What does that even mean? I can't imagine a person with an appointment walking by, seeing an upset 2yo, and then thinking "oh well, I better cancel my appointment because there is a kid crying outside." Parents deserve compassion and help, not shame when a kid is having a tough time. As they were trying to leave, she even went so far as to call security. It was insane. I hope anyone who is looking for a new salon chooses a place that supports and lifts up families, not who makes them feel unwelcome and like they're an inconvenience. read more

I was at dance class with my child yesterday in the studio next to this salon. One of our classmates was having a tough day, and his parents stepped outside to comfort him. While they were outside, I witnessed a woman, who I was later told is the salon manager, Marisa confront these parents in an incredibly inappropriate manner. She made them feel humiliated, and treated them as if they were doing something wrong simply for comforting their upset child. She even went as far as calling security, claiming they were being disruptive because their child was crying. As a bystander, I was honestly disgusted. Watching someone speak to parents this way, especially when they were calmly trying to support their child, was deeply upsetting. Children have difficult moments, they don't always know how to regulate their emotions, and that's exactly when they need patience and compassion, not hostility. I cannot understand how anyone, especially someone in a position of responsibility, could behave in such a cold and unacceptable way toward a family in that situation. To the salon manager, just do better. read more

I worked there for almost 14 years ! The bigger the company grew the more corporate and horrible! The management is absolutely horrible ! Constant plumbing and electrical issues ! Bathrooms broken ! Laundry room / trash room is always dirty they don't provide towel service at this location! Any thing that goes wrong wether it is plumbing electricity or the constant AC issues you bring up is never fixed ever! My clients always complained about the AC and they won't do anything about it ! Also in their contract they make you sign you can not fix anything unless you use their people and their people are 3 times more expensive! It feels like a total scam to for e you to use their people! As for the building itself in all the 14 years I have been there I only remember a handful of times where both elevators and escalators work ! One of the other is always broken ! Many many clients have gotten stuck in the elevators! Armed robbery in the building ! My car and my clients cars have been broken into and there are no cameras in the parking lots! The security of the building is a joke he is always sleeping in the car ! Theirs rents are ridiculously high for an average room of 90 square foot! If you decide to leave after your contract they will make you redo the room completely no wear or tear ! And of course not only your deposit is gone they will make sure you pay even more ! The general manager is basically a gate keeper you never ever feel that they are there to accommodate you it's always to blame all on you ! I would not ever recommend this location and I would Say ready your contract thoroughly and know that your rent will go up every single year and the is no cap of what percentage it will go up to read more

If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Larisa Love in Room 29 is amazing!! I won't let anyone near my hair anymore! I found Larisa on Instagram, believe it or not. I sent her a text and she responded quickly. I luckily scheduled an appointment with her the day before my trip to Hawaii! The salon was not hard to find. Park underground or in the 2 hour parking lot. I didn't realize the parking lot was 2 hours only, but I got lucky that the guards didn't notice. My car was out there for a good 3 hours, lol! Larisa is so personable and kind! She knows what she's doing and I trust her, so I gave her a brief description of what I wanted, showed her a few pics, and she was well on her way to work her magic. My hair turned out amazing (see photo). I received a cut, color, an epic blowout, and some nice curls! I stepped out of the salon and immediately got compliments everywhere I went. Args, I love...to save money. I love making it just to keep it and not spend it. I don't really splurge on many things other than my loved ones, makeup, and my hair. Everything else, blah~ you can see proof of this by looking in my closet. I still wear clothes from high school! In between my appointments with Larisa, I'll admit, I searched on Yelp and Instagram for other stylists that would be able to do work like her for a lesser price and closer proximity to me, but no one impressed me and honestly their work looked like child's play compared to Larisa's. And those compliments... Those compliments from total strangers gushing about your hair color, they get so addicting! More! More! Tell me how pretty my hair is!!! Luckily, I had texted Larisa at the right time regarding my new color idea for our appointment in September. As we texted she alerted me that she actually had a free spot in a few weeks because of a cancelation, so of course I took it, especially since my violet pink ombré/balayage had faded to silver, also I was dying for a haircut. Initially I wanted a natural color, just because it felt like the right thing to do since I'm getting older and to be a bit more adult-ish, until I saw her newer instagram postings of colors she had done and I was so in love with her different shades of rose golds. After that I said the hell to society's standards and views! Once again I had the privilege to sit in Larisa's chair and she was just as sweet and amazing as the first visit. She seriously has the best personality, which makes it so much easier to hand her my money at the end of the appointment. And even though she has so many clients I was surprised she remembered things from our chat during the first visit! Definitely makes the stylist/client relationship seem more personable rather than just a business transaction. What I appreciate from Larisa is that even though you might have drawn inspiration from one of her instagram postings or someone asks for your color, there will never be two girls with the same color. Larisa always customizes the color she puts on to every girl to match their skin tone and enhance their complexion. For this visit, I asked for rose gold balayaged highlights and a chocolate base, inspired by three of her posts. I came out with the same concept as those posts, but a color that was all mine. Even though I asked for rose gold, instead of giving me just one base color and one highlight color, she added dimension and different tones of rose gold so that some pieces were more gold and others more rosey with a few pink lights. As for the cut, this time I had her cut about 3 inches off because my hair had been fried from the stylist before her as well as just from heat styling with a crappy dryer that I was using. Although my hair was shorter setting me back a bit on my mission to have Pocahontas hair, she cut my hair in a way that made it look and feel so much more fuller. After the cut, I guess she wasn't satisfied with something -IDK what since she doesn't allow clients to see the mirror till the very end, but she took me back to the sink to tone my hair one more time. That's some work ethic no? I've had so many lazy stylists that are fine with sending me home with imperfect color explaining away some bs of how it'll get better eventually. Larisa is a true Virgo, perfectionist in all her glory. It's been a few weeks since I've gotten my hair done by Larisa, but the color is fading into a pretty golder-rose gold. (She had said she started me off with a brighter color so I could experience all the shades of rose gold.). And although my colors are not as in your face I still get compliments from random strangers. Just today, while waiting for my coffee at Pie Hole in LA an employee swooned over my hair, calling it "phenomenal", prompting me to write this review. I feel drunk with praise, and no, you don't get sick of these compliments. Larisa is definitely a keeper... Perfect stylist and beautiful person. read more

I finally found a hair home with Monique at Salon Republic. I have tried everything from an $8 haircut in a strip mall to unremarkable mid-ranged $75 cuts to Cristophe in Beverly Hills and the Elizabeth Arden Red Door salon in Midtown, NYC. Salon Republic is my favorite. First is the set-up. I've never seen a place like this. Each stylist has their own room, which they decorate to really reflect their personality. I was instantly impressed that my stylist had a Keurig in her room. Monique was recommended to me by a friend who always has fantastic hair. My friend told me that Monique was honest with her if she didn't think something was a good idea, and since my friend always looks great, I figured I'd trust Monique and only give her general direction. I went with long layers and a slight ombre (I was scared). I'm attaching a photo. Gorgeous, right? The price is awesome for the results. This review is for Keyonna, the kick-ass curl expert in studio 22. I had started seeing her at a different salon, but my first visit here made me really happy. I love that everyone has their own little studio. It really makes my hair appointment feel like a relaxing vacation instead of the arduous task it used to feel like back in the day (after one too many awful haircuts from folks who really need to step away from curly hair). My previous reviews of Keyonna's curly expertise still stand: she is patient, explains everything she is doing, and won't do a single thing you don't want her to do! My very curly, thick, and fine hair is down to my butt, and she makes it look spectacular and neat without taking away my length. Keyonna is also the first hair stylist to really teach me HOW to do my hair with minimal effort and minimal product. Sulfate and alcohol-free shampoos, conditioners and gels/mousse have really improved my hair health, and I learned all about that from her. Who knew it was bad to use regular towels on curly hair? Ever since I followed her advice to apply product to soaking-wet hair, then scrunch out moisture with paper towels or a soft t-shirt, my curl definition has improved and my frizz has virtually disappeared. Additionally, there was a product we had used in the past that is now subject to a boycott over labor practices (I'm a former labor organizer, so this is important to me), and so she recommended new products that are just as awesome for my hair AND much more awesome for workers rights. No judgement here! Just a really dedicated and talented stylist who takes really good care of my hair and invests a lot of time and energy in making her customers happy. read more

He's got years of experience of the trade and really knows how to help you decide on a cut if you're low on creativity. The shop itself has a great atmosphere of good music, good movies, and better conversation. I also hear many great things about his co-partner Jenna and her work, who I would definitely not hesitate to go to if needed. What it actually is, is every hair stylist has their own room that they rent in this big office like building above Marshals on Ventura. t is very nice because every room is unique and different depending on the stylets themselves. I met Esmeralda from a coupon online deal last year and have been doing to her scince. I've been going to Imelda Gonzalez at Salon Republic for years. My hair always gets compliments on texture and color. I get the brazilian blowout with color and the color always lasts for months and when it starts to fade, it fades into my natural color giving it more depth but not looking like I have to do a touch up. Nikky H is the absolute best for blondes. I was very specific about what I wanted and she delivered. I was in a jam one day and resorted to a local stylist. Never in my life have I ever been more satisfied with my hair color and hair cut. Larisa is hands down the ombré queen! She honestly deserves 100 stars not 5. She does such an amazing job and is extremely talented. She's managed to lift my hair from a box black color to a beige blonde ombré. I've never had my hair feel so healthy and alive after dying it. You know when you ask for a trim and they cut off waaaaaay more than expected? Yep well that doesn't happen with Larisa. She actually listens and acknowledges your opinion or say. If you tell her you want to keep your length and are trying to grow your hair out she magically manages to cut your hair and keep it looking fresh, split end free with out chopping off more than you asked for.
