I had a poor experience with Meg earlier in the year when I went in for a haircut and highlights. I had liked my previous experiences with her and had sent her new clients, but will no longer be recommending her after my last visit as I found her communication and business practices to be quite shoddy. I confirmed the price with her ahead of our appointment and once again during our consultation. I had also received a discount code from her that she said she would apply to the visit. Midway through our appointment while we were making small talk she abruptly informed me that she would be charging me more than what she herself had confirmed during the consultation. It came out of nowhere and was very disorienting. When I reminded her of the discount, she made something up on the spot about how the new higher price still reflected the discount. It was super shady and vague and I felt extremely uncomfortable. I could not leave because my head was wrapped in foil and bleach when she chose to announce this change. The color also did not come out the way we had discussed and she pretty much rushed me out of the chair while we were still within our appointment window and kept making passive aggressive jabs about how she had other clients coming in and how she should charge me even more. It's clear that she was disorganized and had not planned her schedule well and was taking that urgency out on her clients. I found the experience to be unprofessional and baffling and will not be returning. read more

Genai has been my hairstylist for about a year now and I could not recommend her more. I have very thin hair and somehow every single time I leave her chair I feel like I have a completely full head of hair. She gives new life with my cut. The way she uses layers to create that volume is genuinely impressive. What I also really appreciate is that she takes the time to walk me through how to style it at home, which makes such a difference between appointments. Genai is the the best! I always walk out with a beautiful cut that looks great after washing and styling at home. I come in every 2-3 months and I always get something that's current and yet it feels new somehow. I am extremely impressed- I have never had extensions look and feel this good. They are light, easy to style, and they look completely natural. I've always had fine hair, but I had been noticing my hair getting thinner in the last few years, so I got the K-tips for extra volume and fullness, and I am so glad I did because they look amazing! Genai did an incredible job making them undetectable, even to me! They're light, they don't put tension on the hair, and unlike clip-ins, they are so easy to style or throw into a ponytail. She will come in earlier than usual or stay later than her business hours to accommodate her clients needs. I made an appointment on Wednesday for a Friday haircut with Kalia for my daughter. Westfolk's online booking system first sends an email that states that the appointment is pending, and must be confirmed by the stylist before it is officially booked. I received an email that the stylist had confirmed the appointment a few hours later. When we arrived two minutes before our appointment time, Megan, the co-owner of the salon, just stared at us. No greeting, no welcome, no "how can we help you" or "do you have an appointment?". It was such a bafflingly rude foot to start on that I was confused for a few seconds about what was going on. I am not sure if Megan is good at hair, but she certainly is not good with people. I let her know I had an appointment booked for 1:15. It was 1:13 and she said the stylist wasn't there yet. Not a great first impression, but I was willing to endure. As we got to 5 minutes past the appointment time with the stylist still not being there, Megan starts volunteering that the salon that she owns doesn't take responsibility for the stylists that rent from her, they all just rent their chairs. Then, in a weird attempt to somehow shift blame to me(??), she asks with a pointed tone when I booked the appointment. The answer was two days prior, but with their confirmation system in place and my appointment being manually confirmed, it frankly doesn't matter if it were this morning or 4 weeks ago. The stylist confirmed the appointment time. It was single handedly the worst and most uncomfortable situation I have ever had at a salon. I had enough and was not going to sit there and absorb her awful energy and bad customer service. The stylist wasn't there at our agreed upon time, and the owner took that short period of time to show her true, insufferable self . There are hundreds of well qualified and much nicer stylists and salon owners within a few miles of here. It is not that hard to go to a salon that values their customers and treats people with respect. Were it not for Megan, I would have waited for Kalia and probably wouldn't have even taken a star off for her being late. Punctuality is important but working for a salon that doesn't treat their customers as disposable is even more important. Run, girl! read more

Come for the hair stay for the coffee (sometimes wine). I have been going to Megan, one of the owners, forever. She has taken me from blonde to red to brown to platinum and back around again. My hair has seriously never been healthier. She is honest when I ask for something that may cause damage or won't suit my face, and is mindful when I'm on a time crunch or need to watch my spending. I have been a very happy client of Megan's at Westfolk Salon for almost a year. I've been meaning to write a glowing review for a while now and popped on here to do so when I happened to notice that another account had posted a very negative review. Strangely, I happened to be there getting a quick cut and color during this interaction and felt that this person's (Danna H) version of events was wildly inaccurate, so I figured I'd offer my own perspective as a bystander with no dog in the fight. Reviews help me make decisions, and I rely on them to be accurate and honest instead of written by people who seem to be taking out their anger issues on innocent business owners. Apparently, this woman had made an appointment online, but the stylist was running late, which she was not happy about. Fair enough. The owner of Westfolk, Megan, apologized that the stylist was late, informing this person that, unfortunately, she had no direct control over specific stylist's appointments, and immediately texted the late stylist to find out where she was. So far so good, right? The lady, for some reason, responded to this by abruptly stating that they would only wait another 3 min before leaving. OK...? The owner then offered this woman and her family beverages, invited them to make themselves comfortable, found out that the late stylist was apparently in the process of parking, and asked when the woman had booked the appointment online. You know, being a generally polite business owner and gathering info on where a potential problem with the scheduling lay. The woman, apparently taking deep offense at the booking question, bolted upright, accused the owner of being rude, and stormed out with her family. All in all, I don't understand why this person became so upset and heated, but I can say, without question, that the Westfolk Salon owner was not at fault here. She handled a clearly angry and hostile new customer with kindness and professionalism and was met with...the opposite. I will continue to go back to Westfolk because they are incredibly good at their jobs and provide a wonderful and friendly atmosphere. I can't recommend them any higher. I hope this Danna person has a better day tomorrow. read more
