I was late, talked the ENTIRE time due to my massive pregaming of redbull, and due to being late, forgot everything I needed. Tasha came highly recommended to me when I reached out to the Yelp community in search of a salon that could offer me more alternative, funky hair styles. I love bright colors, and a skilled, artistic stylist I can trust to do her thing. This was an excellent decision. Tasha made me feel right at home, we had some laughs, despite a long time time in the hair chair it was easy to feel comfortable, and she just did a beautiful job on my hair. This salon is barely visible to the naked eye, but it's directly across the street from the 76 gas station on La Mesa Blvd. So being knowledgeable of this salon's existence is mostly word of mouth. Street parking Schedule an appt during the week, I hear it can get busy during the weekends 20% off if you're a first time customer -$30 after the 20% I came in as a walk-in on a Wednesday afternoon and Tany was able to start on me right away. She was great at listening to what I wanted and in addition to my cut, washed, gave me side bangs, and beautifully styled my hair for the rest of the day with no additional cost. She also mentioned if I wanted a quick trim on my bangs to come in and she'll fix them up for free! I was really happy with the outcome of my cut returning for a fix wasn't even necessary. HORRIBLE CUT. I had the same experience here that Jan-Nicole L. had...WITH the same person [Tany Ou]. I got a same day appointment and walked in to a desolate and dirty shop. Tany was playing on her laptop and greeted me kind of oddly...she seemed sluggish. With the way the shop looked, she could have definitely been tidying up instead of sitting there. She also did NOT look "put together" well at all, herself. I should have taken notice, but after walking in the door with all attention on me...what was I to say?! Long story short...I came out with yellow highlights on my dark brown hair and a haircut that made my normally thick and long hair look very thinned out and stringy. It was the WORST cut I have ever had and the same bad coloring that many novice colorists make on dark hair [not enough toner is what I have been told]. I had a great experience at Styletto's today. I was looking for a new salon because my sister-in-law used to cut my hair but moved away. I didn't want to pay too much, since I'm used to getting it all done for free ;) I made a call for an appointment the day of. I was greeted at the door by my stylist, Brittany. She was very friendly and very professional. She asked me what I wanted and gave me exactly what I asked for. My cut is fabulous, the color looks great and she offered to fix anything if I went home and washed it a few times and found it wasn't what I wanted. The best thing was that Brittany did an AWESOME job washing my hair. I know it sounds funny but you all know how it feel so good to have someone else wash your hair. I went in to get my bangs trimmed... Bettie bangs mind you and was given to tany. I'm no hair stylist but she 1.dry cut my bangs 2.flat ironed them first 3. Left me with a bowl hair cut.. Bangs weren't angled at all and straight across. I told her my style and I have Bettie/retro bangs or what have you. That is not what I ended up with. She saw how upset I was and first told me free of charge and kept repeating "sorry about that" over and over. I finally gave her a picture before she left me close to no bangs and then got a "oh" and she sort of made them better and I just said "that will do" so I could get the hell out of there and then She charged me $5, wtf. I know some people were wary of the reviews for Styletto, but I will say I love the salon. I hate hair stylists for the most part, the love to do things that you haven't asked for and completely ignore your requests. Not so with Tasha, she will do WHATEVER you ask for. If she thinks something would look better on you than what you asked for, she will ask you before doing it. This place is awesome! The vibe you get from the moment you walk through is as if you are chilling with your girlfriends. I love it, they never cease to put a smile on my face. My go to girl at Salon Styletto is Miss Shonnie and she does my hair fabulously! I always walk out of there feeling like a movie star:) I've had many bad experiences with other places cutting my hair wrong and always cutting too much, but this place gets it right. I normally don't layer my hair because I'm not a big fan of it, but I recently got a dye job at another place that damaged the crap out of my ends that getting layers was a must if I didn't want to lose too much of my length. I have challenging hair to cut and have gone though a lot of hairstylists trying to find someone to give me a consistently good haircut. Well no luck until I found Tasha WOW!! She has cut my hair five or six times now and I get a great cut and fabulous color every time. I found her through yelp and read the reviews about not getting calls back, but I was determined to check her out so I waited until we finally connected. I found out later that it's just her and another girl in the salon and they don't stop cutting your hair to answer the phone--which I must say I enjoy--and it also keeps overhead down so that they don't have to charge an arm and a leg for haircut and color. Now I just book an appointment every six weeks-- no phone calls necessary. :-) So if you're having a hard time getting a call back, keep trying or stop by, Tasha is well worth the trouble. read more

I've had very long hair for the past five years and finally wanted a change. She cut and styled my wavy hair very carefully. Now that it's shorter, it's quite curly with so much volume! She explained to me the technique by which she deals with cutting curls. So I decided to go to a salon to see what we could do, and my friend recommended me here, I read the reviews, and made an appointment immediately, and she got me in the same day. I went in yesterday and got Tany as my stylist. Not only is she an awesome person but I have to say I absolutely LOVE what she did with my hair. When I was in town visiting my good friend Christopher I told him I wanted to get my hair done because I needed a change. I had just moved back to the US from the UK where I only let someone at Tony and Guy cut my split ends and nothing else. I don't trust hairstylists because the same person cut my hair my entire life up until I moved. So he sent me to his friend Tasha... Tasha was amazing. I went here because of all of the good reviews it had here on Yelp. I made an appointment and went in, Tasha was there but working on another client, so the other stylist (I think her name was Tamara?) did my hair. She was very, very nice and had an edgy look about her, usually a good sign that she is on the same wavelength with what I wanted. I did not have a pic, but she assured me she knew where I was going with it. Unfortunately, I ended up with a quite pedestrian cut that I paid way too much for. As I was leaving I found out that the stylist had been out of school for only 9 months (something that, had I known, would have kept me from sitting down in the chair in the first place.) I had the color done at Alante in Fletcher Hills and David, my new stylist, felt so bad about the amount I had paid for my first cut that he refused to accept any cash for fixing it. I really like the way it turned out in the end. I'd recommend insisting on Tasha if you do book an appointment at this salon, as she seems to have a glowing recommendation from just about everyone, and to be honest, I really like the pics of the work she's done so far. read more

I was so excited when I found a salon that was so close to home! Cassie did my hair and she did a wonderful job! On top of being a great hair stylist, she is also very easy to talk to. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because being a mother of 3, my time is very limited and I've found that you have to make sure you clear your calendar if you come here. It would take a long time for Cassie to finish my cut. Perhaps it's because of my thick hair? Got a haircut from Tany a couple of weeks ago & I had a wonderful experience! She took me in early, I was a few minutes late but she was very cool about. Great personality & very easy to converse with! She gave me exactly what I wanted. Didn't want too much taken off and she stayed w/in my parameters. Basically I just needed a trim and for my layers to be reshaped because my hair was getting a bit on the scraggly, unshapely, hard to style side. I went in w/ wet hair & she started blow drying it. Then I realized she was dry cutting and I kinda freaked out! She was very patient & calmly explained to me why she was cutting dry as opposed to wet. In the end she styled my hair, which didn't cost me extra. She also stressed to me that if I went home & I felt that I needed some additionaI cutting or needed something fixed then to call her w/in a timely manner than she would be glad to rectify it. Most places I've been to (and I've been to a lot of places) don't usually tell you that outright. That was pretty cool of her to say. I went home examined my hair, washed it & gave it a few days. Everything looked kosher, everything was perfectly even. I did however end up snipping a few pieces myself on the sides which I realized I wanted a little bit more but at the time of the haircut told Tany not to give me too many layers & to keep my layers long. I even brought in a pic & she gave me the same type of cut. Overall very happy w/ Tany & would feel absolutely comfortable w/ going back to her in the future when it's time for another cut! I got my hair cut at the end of last summer by Tany and I thought she did an amazing job! She managed to switch the directions of my bangs and gave me the layers that I wanted. I had a little trouble straightening my bangs a couple weeks later, but I think it was mostly due to my lack of proper styling appliances (my hairdryer is OLD!)
