Rare Bird - New hair style. - Hair Stylists Near Me - La Mesa, California

This place is so cute and cozy. I used to go to Rinse but someone there recommended this place which is closer to my house and so I gave it a try and have been going there since for my very infrequent haircuts. I go to Angelica and she is very easy going and sweet. I didn't have a good idea of what I wanted the first time but genuinely loved the cut she gave me. I have been experiencing a lot of thinning and asked her for recommendations this last time and she gave me a nice shorter cut that I could still just pull back. She also recommended a shampoo to try. I will definitely be back! read more

I made a last minute appointment and Justine was wonderful. Cut my curly hair just the way I wanted it and I couldn't be happier. It's been a long time since I got the cut I was looking for. Thank you Justine and see you soon. read more

BASIC to FABULOUS!!!! I was referred by a friend to this salon. Mind you my friend found Justine through Instagram and 'did her research' on the front end. My friends hair ended up being ADORABLE and since I have been in search of a good stylist, I decided to try her myself. I seriously cannot say enough great things about my hair!! She turned my brassy, yellow/gold tresses into gorgeous natural flowing locks! She also gave me the most beautiful long layer cut, EXACTLY as I had asked her to do. She listed to EVERYTHING that I asked of her and performed like a magician! She made me incredibly gorgeous and I cannot WAIT to continue our relationship through the years. Justine is my new stylist moving forward. I just LOVE her work AND her sweet, friendly personality! She's awesome! I STRONGLY/HIGHLY recommend her for anyone looking for the best!!!! read more

I love, love Justine. So far, I've only done cuts with her. But they are perfect. She does such a great job working your curl or wave (or whatever it is my hair thinks it's going) and giving you a cute cut that you can really live in. I've honestly never left a salon so happy with my cut. Her shop is super adorable with the best vibes. And her location is so easy to get to you and to get parking. read more

I spent a solid year trying to find someone in San Diego that could do a modern shag. After several disappointments, I finally found Justine and I was blown away. I live in PB and never go anywhere outside of my "bubble," but I am actually looking forward to the next time I need to dive to La Mesa so I can get my hair cut by her. My cut is practical and functional - it looks great straight, curled and naturally air dried. read more

I've had two cuts by justine now. first one was my first proper haircut since quarantine that wasn't done by a student or my mom, lol. second cut was to do a little chop to help the rest of my hair catch up to my grown out bangs. I was very happy both times! I love that justine listens and doesn't push a one size fits all theory to cutting. I know razor cuts are very trendy right now and I was worried about having a new stylist destroy my baby fine hair. but justine gives me great scissor cuts! she's also very cute and fun to talk to and her new salon space is just as adorable. read more

This review is way overdue. I hadn't had my hair cut in five years mainly because of my receding hairline and the fear that if I cut my hair it would look even thinner. I decided to get a shag haircut. With some research I decided to book with Justine. She fit me in a week before Christmas. Justine gave me the best haircut I have ever had! My hair looks thicker, hides my hairline and is so easy to style. I have restored confidence and feel like a rock star! Justine was a blast, too, which made the time fly by! It's now time to go back for my bang trim. read more

Awesome and super friendly customer service from Ashley. She walked me through my haircut telling me what she was working on, even gave me instructions on how to style and upkeep my hair, And she even gave me a free product sample to try. Not to mention she gives FREE bang touch ups?! Ash was very friendly and easy to talk to, usually I get nervous of social interaction while getting a haircut but she gave me and my girlfriend (who also got a haircut by her) a very warm welcoming vibe. Would 10000% recommend Ash for curly and shaggy cuts. read more

Justine is theeeee best. Best ever. Best haircuts of my life, best atmosphere, best vibes, just the best! I've been a client for like four years, followed her from to different locations, and never once have I gotten a cut that didn't look even better than I hoped. I don't dye my hair and in the past with other stylists it would end up looking dull after cuts bc they'd just cut off all the natural highlights; somehow Justine doesn't do that?? It's magic. You'll love her. read more

Booked an appointment with Justine for the Marines Corps Ball because a friend of mine recommended her. After rocking self cut bangs through most of COVID, she brought my hair back to life! Justine has been my hairstylist for several years now. I looked around for a while before finding her, so I'm kind of picky with my hair. Whether just a cut of trying a whole new color, I'm always happy with the results. I have also started bringing my kids (8 and 2) to Justine and she is amazing with them. Rare Bird salon has gorgeous vintage vibes that makes the experience all the better. Great location in La Mesa that's easy to find. Definitely check this place out. read more

Justine is simply the best in San Diego; I've been seeing her for the past 4-5 years. I have thick, mixed ethnicity coarse and wavy hair and most stylists don't know what to do with me, my whole life it has been challenging finding the right stylist that just understands my kinda hair. And Justine totally understands my hair - every single time I have seen her I've absolutely loved what she has been able to do, executing exactly what I want and need. I always leave feeling heard, seen and the most beautiful version of myself. The conversations are deep, they are also silly and warm. I always feel better when I leave - great company, great hair, great music, clean hair products, beautifully curated salon, next door is a sushi restaurant that delivers quickly while my color is processing - what more can a gal ask for? read more
