My family has been going here for years (at least a decade) and I'm glad I can finally spread the word about this awesome salon on yelp. This place is an institution for beauty and nails in the Oak Grove area. Phal (pronounced Paul) and his sister have been doing my moms nails forever. Phal also does great haircuts and styling for both women and men. I've seen him do great blow outs as well while waiting in the salon. Phal and Phala do great brow waxing, and the waxing is better priced than other wax centers. This is a friendly neighborhood salon with good service that I highly recommend. read more

I too have had three negative experiences here - wish I had seen the review beforehand...They TWICE refused to honor a groupon which I purchased in good faith, told me they couldn't be bothered to refund my money - I'd have to go back to Groupon. They used white out on their appointment book over my name and said I cancelled my appointment. They lied about the prices and I ended up paying full price the first time, which I did not learn until later. And the attitude of Paul - maybe some kind of manager who claims he cuts hair - but is always doing nails -- is the worst I have seen. He could care less about the reputation of the salon or providing a good experience for the customers. DO NOT WASTE your time or money here!!! read more

Just had my third negative experience at Salon Phal...3 strikes, never going back! The only reason I kept going back was because it's so convenient. Oh, well. A friend and I just went and had pedicures, my friend was shocked at how little they massaged her feet and asked if she could buy extra time for massage. the lady told her no! Who says no? Salon Phal does. Then, I got charged $20 for gelish with no manicure. I was trying to be somewhat economical so I thought I'll just go with the polish change instead of the whole manicure. Well, they didn't tell me that for just $2 more, I could have gotten the manicure...shady! And the pedicures are $23. their prices have gotten way high. Now that I won't be back there, I'll tell you why else this is a bad place. I went there for a manicure last time and had to get my Gelish soaked off. Well, I do not want to stick my hand in a bown of acetone, I prefer the foil wraps...much kinder to your skin and quicker and more professional. The lady didn't know how to do it and I had to teach her how. Um, isn't that the job of the salon owner. read more

I have been going to Salon Phal for a long time and have had excellent nail care there. All the staff are friendly and helpful. I have never had a problem getting an appointment when I wanted one and have also not had a long wait when I just drop in. I think the facility is very clean and I love the massage chairs where I can relax while having a pedicure. My granddaughter and other family members have enjoyed going there as well when visiting from out of town. read more

This is an elegant, clean and relaxing place to get your nails, toes and hair done. Phal always asks me if I like the shape, color and thickens of my gel nail manicure. Be careful about that salon. Some people there do not own license. Go at your own risk, always ask to see license of proof. If they don't show you, leave otherwise you are at risk of disease or infection. Be cautious especially with the make up part and the nails. Doesn't matter if they're good or not, just remember that no license is proof that they don't care about your safety and sanitation. They just want your money. Trust your stylist. read more

Cute place BUT it took OVER TWO HOURS to do simple acrylics! What?! Never had to wait that long in my life even when I was getting extensive nail art done on each finger. Not only did they take FOREVER to do but they also cut them WAY too short!!! She didn't even ask if I thought it was too short, she just kept filing away. It took her at least 30-40 minutes just on the placement of the acrylics and cutting them... At least an extra cm was cut off (a big difference in nail length, especially for hands.) Typically I would've been annoyed but would move on quickly HOWEVER acrylics highly damage your nails and I'm scared to get new ones soon and redo them over again so I'm stuck with these for AT LEAST a couple of weeks. ALSO I got a gel pedi and the design was not want I wanted!!! It looked really cheap. I wanted them done in about an hour because I had some place to go that day but I realized that an hour for acrylics and gels was probably not enough so it was okay. However, 3 HOURS?! For nails I don't even like... Needless to say I am NOT a happy customer and WOULDN'T RECOMMEND this place to anyone. On the plus size there was extensive CARE going into the nails but for the time, effort, and outcome... You can definitely say I'm NOT HAPPY and extremely DISSATISFIED. I wasted so much time here. I can't even get fill ins for my next acrylics because they were cut WAY TOO SHORT (shorter than I asked for) and I know this will lead to more pain in the future :( Also, the acrylics were cut SHORTER than my natural original nails! What? Why would I want that?!?! I know I will have to get the gels touched up to fix the design, however I know for a fact I won't come back there for it or even ever again. Sweet and gossipy people, but taken into consideration the time and effort.... Well I'm very disappointed to say the least. I've been going to nail salons for years and never write reviews but I felt a strong need to this time. They are NICE people I just wouldn't come here again. First visit was great! I had an excellent pedicure. The atmosphere is pleasant - soft lighting with a pretty, well thought out décor of soft grey, silver, black colors and accents, and crystal chandeliers. The second visit I opted for a gel manicure - my first one. The female nail tech did not seem to know how to do the gel and had to be instructed by the male tech. I thought gel manicures were supposed to last longer than regular, but mine started to peel all along the edges after four days. The last visit I went back for a pedicure/regular manicure but had a different male tech. After the pedicure, which was great, I paid my bill before the nail polish was put on. I had noticed on previous visits signs that said they preferred their tips in cash, not on the credit card, so I paid at the front desk with the credit card and then handed my nail tech the cash tip. He immediately counted the bills and said is this the tip for everything? I said yes - it was about an 18% - 19% tip - I would have given 20% but didn't have any more cash on me that day. He said, "Well, it's better than nothing!" with a frown face. I told him I was sorry, but I didn't have any more cash on me. Then he proceeded to apply the nail polish rather sloppily. I would NOT RECOMEND getting your hair colored or cut at Salon Phal. I asked my stylist, named Crystal to cut only an inch of my hair but she argued about how she needed to cut more than that. I told her "okay that's fine," but she continued to argue about how she couldn't cut the front part if she couldn't cut more off the back part (which made no sense to me but I didn't argue). I didn't understand why she was being so antagonistic since I agreed to let her cut more. I felt like I was being lectured like a child instead being talked to like a paying customer. I was using a groupon so the services that I was receiving I had already paid for. When I was checking out, she told me that it would be $40 for the toner. I had not been told that it would cost $40 dollars extra to put a toner on my hair. Now mind you, I would not have a problem paying it had she told me before I got to the register. Also, hair toners typically cost $4 to $6. So not only was she rude and dishonest...she was ripping me off. Had she not treated me so disrespectfully, I would have been a returning customer. She also was highlighting her co-worker's hair which seemed a little unprofessional to me. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY OR TIME AT THIS SALON!!!! read more
