He went above and beyond my expectations from what I showed him of a previous haircut that I liked. The service pre-haircut is second to none in the area. Good music, free snacks and drinks, and clear communication from the staff make waiting not bad at all. Fluent English is spoken here, so no worries about language barriers that may be present at other Chinatown hair salons. I always try to make an appointment with Kiyoto, and he is always fast and cuts my hair to exactly how I describe. Kiyoto is also happy to give suggestions or style recommendations when prompted. The most recent time, I took his advice and added natural highlights. Nana helped color my hair. What I really appreciated about the stylists was that he tailored my look to my general aesthetic and told me to go natural and elegant. He also saw that I had thin hair and a smaller forehead, thus suggesting ways to make my hair appear fuller and ways to balance out my facial structure using strategic layered side bangs. I'm sad to be writing this review, but I've reached the point where I don't think it's worth coming here anymore. I love Jackson and have gotten 10-15 great haircuts and several amazing perms. I've actually continued coming here despite moving to LA a few years ago! However, over the past 4 years, my haircuts have increased from $50 to $90. At the same time, my haircuts have gone from being 60-minute appointments to 50, to 40, and now today to 30 minutes. This includes washing, blowdrying, and styling--leaving only 10-15 minutes for cutting. The prices actually end up higher than most LA salons! The salon also increased its prices by $10 after I booked my appointment but did not inform me until the appointment ended, so I was charged more than expected based on the original booking. It seems like this place has really taken off (they even opened a second location in the Heights), but the business model now compromises the customer experience. I hope they reconsider the value of the business-customer relationship! read more

It's been a while since I've gotten a haircut in Bellaire and my cousin recommended this salon to me. If you are a guy looking to get a perm, this is your place. This place is not cheap, but it is priced similar to the place I usually go to in the Heights. They also have a second location in the Heights. They use Kerastase hair products. They had a snack section in the front but I was only offered water. The music could improve. Apparently, the same music is played all day long and repeats every 20 minutes. The parking lot gets a little packed on the weekends bc of the nearby restaurants. I made an appointment just to be safe. I used King to color my virgin black hair and it was the worst color experience I've ever had. I wanted a high lift hair color, no bleach, and I ended up with terrible hot roots (where the roots are orange/copper). I brought it up to him and he said it was the lights and it looks all one color in the sun or in natural light and took a photo and showed me. I was so annoyed because he was telling me what to do rather than listening. I've been getting my hair colored for almost 10 years and they've usually done a root melt, to help blend the roots to avoid hot roots. I'm so disappointed because I spent years growing out my natural hair color and for the first time in 4 years, I colored it again and it turned out terrible and I regret it. I tried bringing up my concerns and he brushed it off, same with my haircut. He did what he thought was best, not necessarily what I wanted. I would not recommend King. read more

I've been here several times before and I always leave the shop happy with the overall service and new hair style. My stylist was Nana, she was fantastic, did an A+ job with my short hair. She knew exactly where to trim, add or take off volume without me having to explain too much. I like how her techniques come alive with just a pair of scissors. She also did amazing bleaching my dark hair to near platinum silver with slight lavender & pink tone. My hair is still soft and airy and my color is just gorgeous. She spoke primarily Chinese but no problem! Her assistant( o no I can't remember her name ) was readily available to translate and made sure I was super comfortable. SO blown away by the service I had with Oliva and Jessie! Had balayage done a year ago by another salon, it was originally an ashy blonde and they had uaed permanent dye on my hair, and had initially come in for a consulation to get another color balayage done (I wanted to go purple this time!). Olivia was very honest and straightforward, setting expectations and worked with what I had wanted. I come here for both hair cut and hair dye and I leave with exactly what I want, and with HEALTHY hair after which is so important. I usually go to Alex but I have also gone to King and everyone here seems to be amazing at what they do which is hard to find. They make sure to teach everyone to do hair well so you can literally go to anyone and they'll make sure you leave with beautiful hair. Cut, cut, cut! Saw the salon on my way to my dad's and went on Yelp and there is a request a consult option. Only problem is it sent a request to all the hair salons in what seemed like in the range of the zip code. Got an email back from Salon Per Se and after a few back and forth set an appointment for that Saturday at 10 am. This exchange happened on Thursday after 4:30 pm so I was surprised that an appointment came up so early. Saturday. They don't open until 10 am. So when I got there for my 10 am at 9:52 am, I was left outside with what ended up being 3 other guys. Once in, they took me back fairly quickly. And the young lady that shampooed my hair was amazing (I don't remember her name but she was petite with gorgeous long silver hair). She shampooed twice and conditioned once while doing a massage that almost had me asleep. I was assigned to Jamie. My hair was a tad past my shoulder but I was looking for a shorter and thinner cut in the back and a little longer in the front. She did something called texturizing which I was ok with because she is the professional. It involves a lot of short angled cuts so my hair in the back underneath is short and short and short. It took a little bit to get that texturing done and I appreciate Jamie's professionalism. She didn't rush. It took her longer than the hour it was scheduled for but that was ok with me, I was a bit worried about her other client who had a short wait. The cut was reasonably priced. And Jamie and the other girls were very nice. It is a bit trendy and got fairly busy and the clientele was diverse. About 85% of the staff wore masks which helped ease me. Salon Per Se I just moved to Houston from California and i was in need of a new hair stylist when I stumbled upon Salon Per Se's instagram. They have a great portfolio of all if their stylists' work. After going through everything I decided to schedule an appointment with Jamie. She was incredible. She was attentive to all of my needs. I requests an ashy brown balayage that was very well blended. For the cut, I wanted long layers in a U cut with curtain bangs. She kept me in the loop every step of the way and made sure I was happy with every decision. At the end of it, it was exactly what I wanted. This is probably the best color job that I've ever had done. It is so natural and there is so much dimension. I couldn't be happier. I 100% recommend Jamie! During the appointment, assistants jumped in as needed to help speed the process along. In the end, I ended up finishing early! The salon acts as a well oiled machine and everyone helps out if they're free. They were all very pleasant and even offered me a blanket, water and snacks. This place is now my go to salon! My stylist, Jack, was extremely sweet! I came here for the first time to get a haircut and second time I came for balayage. Both experiences were extremely great! Each time Jack would explain to me what he was doing to my hair as well as why he was doing that to my hair. For my balayage, I explained to Jack and gave him a photo of what I wanted and he was able to give me the options I had for my hair. Since my color was lighter I would have to do second time bleach, so Jack recommended me to do the colors in two sessions rather than one to help maintain my hairs health. (the option of doing it once is available though) I chose to go two as recommended. At the end of the balayage, he even gave me a mini photoshoot for my hair. It was an amazing experience overall. It's been so long since I've been back since I live in DFW now, but trust, the loyalty is still there! Alex salon is so amazingly beautiful and so aesthetically pleasing to the eye. The go to modern hair salon of Chinatown District located in a neat trendy plaza. The interior decor is just wow, especially the grand chandelier you see when you walk in. Got a haircut from Kiyoto today and it was amazing. As an Asian male with coarse hair it is hard to find someone that can cut it correctly without simply giving a skin fade. Kiyoto has been doing this for 10 years. He took the time to examine my head/hair while asking good questions to get a real understanding of what you want.
