This review is long overdue as I've been going to Salon O for years! Besides being a beautiful salon, the staff and stylists are so welcoming and make you feel at home the moment you walk in. There hasn't been a time when I wasn't offered a beverage (coffee, tea, water, soda, wine, etc) immediately after sitting down. I always look forward to getting my highlights with Jill...she is the absolute sweetest, and always does a phenomenal job. While I've only used Jill for color, I've had multiple stylists (Brian, Louis, Justin) cut and blow dry my hair, and would trust anyone in the salon. All are detail oriented and make sure they know what you want before they start styling your hair. After a horrible experience at another salon, I am waiting for my hair to grow back so I can get it corrected back at Salon O. Never again will I trust anyone else with my hair! If you're hesitant about making an appointment at Salon O, I'd say go for it. With a talented staff, gorgeous decor and reasonable prices...why not? read more

I am home for the summer and I was in desperate need of a haircut. Being that my regular lady is all the way back in Oregon, I had to find somewhere local. Most hair salons are not open on Sunday so that narrowed down my search a lot. Salon O was open, nearby, and I called them do see if they had an appointment and they told me to come in a half hour. Very easy to find and right on Jericho Turnpike. Walked in was greeted by the receptionist and sat down. The Salon itself is very classy and attractively decorated. Waited no more than 10 minutes before Louis introduced himself. Super friendly guy, listened to what I wanted, and executed it perfectly. Wash, cut, blow dry $55. It's a little pricey but then again it's Long Island (Syosset area to be more precise) and this is how much every place chargers unless you go to one of the chain hair cutting places. I was very happy with my haircut! And ask for Louis, he is a good conversationalist and not in the awkward way where they feel obligated to strike up a conversation that ultimately ends in random silence 2 minutes into your haircut. read more

Found this place on Yelp after looking at places near my job. I was able to make a last minute appointment which I really liked. The cost of a cut and blow was pretty reasonable (I lived in NYC for 10 years so I'm used to $100+). I had Jackie who was super sweet and great! I had my appointment for a color and a cut yesterday. This was my second time there in recent 6 months. I was expecting the salon to go overboard with the precautions and safety of their clients. I felt that I was not safe there. Too many people around. Even though they have plexiglass between shampoo and color station chairs , it doesn't feel safe. There are opening on top sides bottom. Someone hair was being colored next to me less than 3 feet away. Someone else was blowing the hair a chair away from me , but I felt the air around. Too many people talking loud around me in the shampoo area. The girl washed my hair with no gloves on and she prepped me for the color as well. Applying stuff on my skin with no gloves on. They spray the chairs a little and wipe with the same towel I didn't see thorough disinfecting around . I would never want to go there again. When I made the appointment I specifically asked if the chairs are covered with plastic coverings. They said yes but when I went there I didn't find any of that . There were 3 people sitting in the tight receptionist area with no social distancing. The stylist took the hair brush out of the drawer to do my hair. And she put the brush back in the drawer when she finished with my hair None of the disinfecting stations for brushes were visible to me. I m hundred percent sure they do not disinfect brushes and other tools between each use. The stylist told me that they are not required to wear gloves. I would be more comfortable if everyone was wearing gloves and masks and they were social distancing. read more

I visited Salon O recently for a root touch up, haircut and blowout with Kaitlyn. It is a beautifully appointed, bi-level salon located on the North shore of Long Island. Kaitlyn was so professional when developing the appropriate formula for my color that I immediately felt comfortable enough to let her take the wheel when it came to my haircut. I am so happy that I did because my hair looks amazing! I will be back again for highlights! read more

I'm going to start that I'm very particular wih hair. I'm scared to try new people for my hair and my eyebrows! That being said I had to find a new stylist because I moved and from the yelp reviews I decided to go with Brian. He is great, you won't be disappointed if you try him .. He listens and answers all your questions if you have any.. I have long hair and curly .. He cut it very nicely ..took the right amount off and layered it well that when I do it curly it will be full not heavy like it was ( because I didn't cut it for a while) very nice blow out as well. He gets 5 stars. The 4 stars are for the shampooing experience it was a bit rough.. Although it was lunch time and I think she wanted to put in the order.. Wasn't a very awesome experience .. I usually love he shampooing part because I feel my head feels super clean and also massaged.. Didn't feel that way when I got the up from the chair. Oh and the conditioner what ever she used smelled horrible. I'm used to gentle cleansers no harsh ones I made the switch about a year ago and that conditioner was just awful which brings me to the products: Also a note to the salon.. I asked for gluten free shampoo.. It wasn't available I didn't truly understand if they were out or just not ordering it anymore.. So I asked Brian if I could bring my own products and he said yes so my advice if you are sensitive to the harsh chemicals in the popular brands bring your own for shampooing and also for styling I think I'm gonna do that next time. I made an appointment with Jill (Color) and Brian (Cut) for a Friday evening and it was my first time at Salon O. They were both very friendly and were very helpful in learning about the style I wanted. On the Friday evening it is hard to get good service anywhere. These two were definitely top notch. My cut and color were very simple so I can't accurately rate the salon and difficult tasks. I will definitely come back again to keep up my hair but the prices were sort of high. read more

My mom and I have been following Allie wherever she goes for many years now. When she ended up at Salon O a couple of years ago, we were happy with the kind owners and cute little store in Plainview. When they moved to the massive space on Jericho Turnpike, we were ecstatic! It's such a nice atmosphere in there. We love everyone that works there, from the colorists to the stylists to the owners to the upstairs nail salon! I am super annoying (I have Nut & Fish allergies) but the staff always remembers and is extra careful about the products they use in my hair (shampoo with shellfish oils and conditioners with almonds are extremely common!). I feel like I don't even have to remind them, because when I do, they always tell me they've taken care of that already! (I love that!) Allie is fantastic- she is super friendly and treats you more like a friend than a customer (which is why we have been following her around!). My hair is always perfect and not only do I love it, but I am constantly getting compliments and questions about it and where I get it done. (It looks extremely natural!) When Allie moved to Salon O, I lost my stylist so she recommended Brian to me and I have been in love with him ever since! Again, I feel like I'm going to see my friend instead of get my hair done when I go to Brian. He is very thoughtful and precise, and he always cuts my hair perfectly. We have such a blast and I look forward to my haircuts just to see what he is up to. I have since moved off of Long Island but I make it my business to still get my hair done here. I can't imagine having the same experience anywhere else, or finding other people who care as much as I do about my hair as Allie and Brian do. read more

Sadly would have given 5 stars when I first started going. Absolutely loved Kathy and the way she cut my hair and Kristin not only gave me the exact color I wanted she did it in a way as to not damage my hair and made my hair healthy again! They were both so sweet and friendly and always greeted me with a hug and big smiles. They both get five stars from me. The salon and the owner Connie is a different story. As a person who has run a business myself I can say I would never put a customer in the middle of a dispute between myself and an employee. I cannot say the same for Connie. First she lied to myself and Kristin who was supposed to do my color. She told me Kristin called in sick and told Kristin I changed my appointment to the following week all because she had a dispute with Kristin two days prior to my appointment. They then offered me someone else to do my hair and when I inquired if they would know how to do my hair the same way I was told no wouldn't be the right person. I make my appointments 4 weeks in advance so there was no reason they couldn't have figured out a way to accommodate me. However thankfully Kristin and I got in touch with each other and I will be following her wherever she ends up because throughout the whole dispute she still planned on being the professional she is and was coming in just for me. I'm sad to say that I can't use Kathy anymore because I won't go back but she was sweet enough to touch base too. Hopefully I'll see her again. As far as salon o I won't be going back. Oh and last but not least they gave Kristin all her customers cards except mine miraculously seems to have disappeared. Thanks for nothing Connie. I don't want to blame the salon so I'll put it on the owner. Naina is the best hairstylist! I am very particular with my long, think hair and trust her completely! I have been following her for 6+ years to do my cuts and blow outs. She is very professional, so talented and very detailed. She takes her time even though she is always busy with back to back appointments. I have try blow outs from other places around Manhattan but my hair is never as voluminous as Naina's magic touch. I have recommended so many people to her and they are all fans! I had went here before prom so I can get my hair colored. I went to another place that completely messed up my hair and made it orange colored, which was very ugly. And then they had the audacity to charge me extra money for a horrible hair color. So I had an appointment with Chris, and let me say I'm in love with the color. He was determined to turn my ugly orange hair into something simply gorgeous. I highly recommend him. The place is very clean and beautiful. Used to love coming here for blowouts. There are some great people who work here. Unfortunately, a girl messed up my color and turned me orange... I pointed it out and ended up spending hours there when all was said and done so that it could be fixed. (Luckily, my babysitter was able to stay longer.) Management made me eat the cost to the tune of almost $300. They tried to pretend they were cutting me a break by not charging me for the hot iron (which I didn't request- the stylist wanted to use as part of my blowout). She got me on a good after care routine for my hair and I haven't been struggling with it since! She also do an absolutely beautiful job on fixing my hair! I guess I am very unlucky and ended up with a bad experience here. My stylist was very unprofessional, did not pay attention to what I wanted, and gave me an awful haircut. My friend had a great experience at Salon O and recommended that I come here for my haircut. Like another reviewer, she said her stylist listened carefully to what she wanted, did an analysis of her head/hair, and made sure she knew what she was getting. I didn't get any of this. I trusted my friend's recommendation and I trusted the yelp reputation of this salon and was let down. I was on time for my appointment but my stylist greeted me 20 minutes late. I have very long, straight hair and told her I wanted a trim and indicated on my body the length to which I wanted it cut, which was about 6-7 inches shorter. I also asked her to cut it in a way so that it would look nice when it grew out again. I first got it washed, which was a fairly rough wash in an uncomfortable chair. About 30 mins after my scheduled appointment time, I was finally in the chair for my cut. My stylist asked me again where I wanted the cut. I used my hand to indicate to the level under my breast. She never placed my hair against that point to double check. She just said "ok" and then proceeded to take a scissor and cut the back of my hair off... When she cut the length off, she seemed more excited about how much came off than checking to see if it were what I wanted... She started to talk to a stylist next to me about it and they both got really excited about how much was just cut off to the point where the other stylist went to get a ruler. 11 inches of my hair was just chopped off. I wasn't sure what to say or think since I honestly didn't know how long or short my hair was with 11inches cut off. She then proceeded to cut the rest of my hair. During my cut, my stylist spent more time trying to talk to me about my personal life, my relationships, and her life than focusing on cutting my hair. I have had nicer haircuts in my past where my stylist were more professional and more focused on cutting my hair. Aside from being unprofessional, my stylist appeared to be incompetent as well. They gave me my pony tail so that I could donate it. When I got home to measure it, my cut-off pony tail actually measured 12inches. My stylist also did not know how to cut long hair. She gave me a straight cut with no layers saying that it would look better when grown out long. She curled it for me at the end so it looked nice. But now that my hair has straightened out, it seriously looks like I took a scissor myself and chopped off 12 inches. I paid $60 for a "haircut" but it seriously looks like I butchered my own hair off... I know that it was my fault for not speaking up more or being more specific about the length I wanted cut. But I trusted this place for the reasons above, and they ruined my hair. I have long hair, and I know my concerns may not be shared by all women. But this is like every long-haired girls' nightmare... you go in for a "trim" or a "cut" but your stylist doesn't pay attention and they butcher 2x as much off. And this exactly what happened to me. I can't bring myself to get my hair layered right now since its so much shorter than what I want. Otherwise, the salon itself was nice. It is larger and has ample parking in the back. read more

This is honestly the best salon I have ever been to. Right when you walk through the door you are immediately greeted by a friendly receptionist who always has a smile on her face. Dawn does my highlights and she's so amazing and so sweet. Last week I wanted to try something different and got all over blonde highlights. I loved the highlights when I had a full face of makeup done, but without the makeup my hair made my face look really pale. So I called a couple of days later and made an appointment to add a bit of lowlights to fix the situation and Dawn did an amazing job and now I am so in love with my hair. She added the lowlights free of charge which I reallyyy appreciate. I know some salons wouldn't because I hadn't asked for lowlights in my first appointment. The guy who washes my hair is the BEST. He washes it so thoroughly and adds a nice head massage. He doesn't rush and really takes his time. The rest of the staff are also very nice and attentive. Always walking around asking if there's anything they can get for the clients. And lets not forget how beautiful this salon looks. It is absolutely gorgeous, so stunning. Very high-end looking. I called to make an appt for hair and makeup and was told they had to reach out to their makeup artist to confirm the appt and they'd get back to me by the end of the day. I never heard back so I called a few days later to follow up. They said they never heard back but would ask the makeup artist when she was in that day and get back to me by the end of the day. She's super friendly, extremely knowledgeable and always cuts my hair exactly how I want. As someone who has NEVER ever colored her hair, I was apprehensive to do highlights but Maryann assured me that Michelle would do a great job. I love this place. I have been going to Tracy for over 2 years now. She's amazing. I have been to a bunch of salons because not everyone can do Hi-lites correctly. Tracy makes my hair look amazing every time . The color is always bright and perfect. She listens to what I want and tells me if it will look good or bad. She's honest and not many hair colorists are. I can't say much about the hairdressers bc I only get color , but from what I've seen everyone walks out happy and looking good! Very friendly and helpful..as I had no idea what I wanted to do with my hair as I had fallen into the forever same do trap! Chris did the coloring which came out amazing exactly what I wanted dark brown with some caramel and some peek a boo highlights...awesome job Chris! Then they put me with Brian to do my cut...he did an amazing job ...I have gotten nothing but compliments on my new style!
