I went to Wisdom Salon on March 19, 2020 to get a Magic Sleek treatment done. I colored my hair, as you can see, and naturally have very curly hair (see picture). My curly hair looks nice for about 10 minutes after a shower, and then is a mess. Its easily tangled, big (gets even bigger with the slightest humidity), and rarely if ever styles to something presentable. So for me, I just need something more manageable where I can shower, brush, and go. I had my first keratin treatment ever done around the first week of February 2020, and by the time I went to Wisdom Salon in March, it was coming out so much it almost seemed like I didn't have a treatment done at all. When I got to Wisdom Salon, the owner was the only one there and she consulted with me, willing to do another keratin if I really wanted, or to do this thing called a Magic Sleek. For me, since I exercise heavily 5-7 days a week with at minimum a 3 and a half mile run (and so washing my hair everyday is basically a must) I decided to go with the Magic Sleek which isn't supposed to wash out the way Keratin does and allows you to enjoy the pool or ocean, or a run in my case. It is also supposed to last 4-6 months before coming out and even then your hair should not do an immediate and full reversion to whatever the natural is. I was hesitant at first after reading horror stories of hair breakage and wasted money, but decided to give it a go. The pictures I took of my hair straight are as of June 10, 2020, so almost 3 months. As you can see, closer to my roots, my hair is crinkling up again, but the reat has remained straight. I didn't blow dry or use any sort of straightening tool for my hair, I usually just wash it, comb it and then let it air dry. I'm guessing that the amount that is no longer nice and straight by my roots is just from my hair growth. It's not too bad, and could probably be fixed with some quick blow drying, although I'd prefer my hair to be straight without the heat effort. For me, I'm not sure if the amount coming out is truly just my roots, or if the hair didn't take as well. I'm not how it will look in another month or two, but for now, it's still not bad. The owner was really great also. Very nice and patient during the almost 8 hour process this took!

I got the magic sleek done by Marie. She was very informative and explained the process. The process does take a while. I was at the salon from 930am to 3pm. My hair feels smoother than how it was before. I even showered after and washed my hair it took a few minutes to style. I'm happy with the result. I would recommend.

This is before I had magic sleek done

Totally disappointed in the place. They made me wait six and a half hours so that in the end they got the wrong color.

Wow! Finally a place where my haircut is perfected! I grew my hair out super long for two years to…read moreget that perfect long layered hair and it was finally achieved! I went to Amela after many recommendations and I was not disappointed at all. I asked for a layered (lots of layers) in a V cut shape. I already had bangs prior so she recommend that I get curtain bangs too. I was so pleased with the service and the result. The cut and dry (not blow dry) was quick and Amela was super sweet and conversational. I posted my haircut on my Instagram story and a lot of people complimented my hair and even asked how I got it done. The price was also super affordable considering I have long hair (my hair was right above my waist). Will deff come back for any hair inquiries, especially since now I only trust Amela

My hairstylist was on vacation, and with my birthday coming up, I decided to try a new salon. I had…read moreseen this salon quite a bit on Instagram and was impressed by what I saw, so I was excited to give it a try. Although I knew that only one of the stylists was particularly well-known on Instagram, I was assured that everyone there was experienced and that I would be in good hands. Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing, especially considering the price. I was asked to arrive on time, which I completely understand, but I did have to wait a little after arriving. That wasn't a big deal at all. What bothered me more was that my stylist didn't look at any of the inspirational pics I had saved to show her. Instead, as I was describing what I wanted, I was told that the style I wanted was something they do "all day, every day," which made me feel confident that I was in good hands, so I didn't press on it too much. Unfortunately, the final result looked very different from what I had asked for. I completely understand that everyone's hair is different and that a particular style may not turn out exactly the same on every person. However, the photos I had (which she didn't look at) were of hair that was quite similar to mine, so I expected at least a closer interpretation of the look I was going for. I left feeling like my vision wasn't really heard or taken into consideration. When I asked about the price beforehand, I was told it would be $100 and up. I was surprised because I have never paid that much for a wash, cut, and blowout, but I was willing to pay it for a good experience and a result I loved. The final price, however, was $150. Apparently the stylist on IG starts at $150 and "up". The price itself wouldn't have bothered me nearly as much if I had walked out feeling happy with my hair. Unfortunately, I didn't. For $150, I expected a much higher level of service, attention to what I requested, and, most importantly, a result that reflected the style I came in asking for. I don't like leaving negative reviews, and I understand that things don't always turn out perfectly. But I feel this salon is significantly overpriced for the service I received. I have NEVER paid $150 for a wash, cut, and blowout, and based on my experience, I unfortunately don't feel the service justified the cost and I don't think I will return.

Was really hoping to find a good hair salon near me but unfortunately I had a horrible experience…read moreat this spot. This salon was disappointing at best and had very unfriendly service. Left feeling gaslit, with 1/3 requests completed, and now have to wait a year to grow out my hair for a proper cut again. I went to get a haircut where I asked for 6 inches off, 2 set of 2 inch layers, and angles. I also asked for the end of my hair to be "U" shaped rather than flat or V shaped. From the beginning, the store manager, Maggie (unsure of spelling) asked if I wanted my hair washed first to which I said no. I wanted a dry cut since my hair has light waviness and I wanted to make sure the cut would look good unstyled. I went to get my cut with one of the stylist who cut my hair. He was quiet for the most part and he asked very few questions. He did not speak much English. He sectioned my hair and went about cutting it but did not give me layers. He cut close to 8 inches off and made the hairline V shaped. He showed me the back in a photo, and I asked for the line to be softened into a U shape. He could not understand my request, so Maggie came. She said it doesn't look like a U because I didn't get a wet haircut. That logic made no sense, but I asked for it to be fixed. He proceeded to cut but started taking off more from the side instead of the center, which is where the hair needed to be trimmed to create a softer line and make the U shape. Maggie comes back and translates some more but ends up doing the cut since the other man was unable to understand. I also asked her to show me where the layers were. She then says three completely contradictory things. She said you can't ask for that after (I said my request very clearly upfront. My roommate was there with me and heard and also saw no layers, and she was the individual who encouraged me to ask again about the layers). They then said it was not possible to give layers with a U shape (now seemingly saying they can't make the cut as requested), and also said that there are layers but I couldn't see them in the photo they showed me. Telling me both I had layers and that my request was not possible/made later made no sense. Maggie starts to get defensive and say, again, I needed to have a wet haircut and says they are professionals with 20+ years of experience and know when a request is not possible. Mind you, this has been the haircut I've requested for the past 10 years and no other salon had had problems honoring the request. At this point, the salon's threading and waxing specialist (Pooja) comes out and asks what is the matter because it was clear there continued to be a miscommunication and she could hear Maggie raising her voice. She tries to help mediate, pulls me into her waxing and threading room to clarify what I requested as I was getting overwhelmed by the now 5 people talking to each other or at me about what I wanted/what I got. Pooja noted I definitely did not have face framing pieces or layers, but said given how much length had been taken off, it might make the cut even worse. She suggested to just ask for the angles again. I went and just ask for the angles again which Maggie did while continuing to comment on how unreasonable I was being. Regarding the angles, the man who gave me my cut did ask if I wanted bangs mid-cut, which I said no to, so I think he took that to mean no angles/face framing pieces. I can forgive why that did not happen immediately and do think they gave them after. This was the only request fulfilled. They cut off too much, did not give me a U, and definitely left me with zero layers. Not to mention, longer pieces of hair stuck out and the ends looked unfinished. Horrible experience and super unprofessional. Would not recommend to anyone for a haircut. Cannot speak to styling/coloring or their other services but I would avoid such overconfident and rude people in the future. My botched cut came out to $35. Will be going back to Chinatown in NYC next time for my cut. I had a great cut there last time for a more affordable price. It would be the same price even with tolls/LIRR ticket cost and tip factored in.
