Visited Hair Effex for the first time today and had a wonderful experience. Tracy, the owner, was my stylist for the morning, and going into a new salon for the first time, despite the five star reviews, you still don't know what to expect!! When it came to parking I was able to park on a side street right next to the salon. It says two hour parking, but I did not receive a ticket, thank goodness :-) The girls inside also reassured me that I should be fine to park out there! Tracy was very professional, and honest. I had showed her a photo of what I was thinking (single-processed color), but she provided me with an alternative option which was much better than my original request!!! She recommended heavy highlights so that I wouldn't have to run back to her a couple weeks later to get my roots done, and I appreciated that. my appointment lasted two hours, and I was able to quickly pay and go about my day! Covid wise- temperature was taken upon arrival and I was asked a couple of questions. I liked that because it shows they are taking measures to make sure they are not spreading the virus within their vicinity. Overall a great experience and I would recommend to all of my Yelp friends. read more

Everyone I know who's been here has become a regular, so I decided to try it when my regular (a few years) hair stylist had gone on a long vacation & I was in desperate need of a cut. I knew no one - I happened to be paired with Sarah.... And now, I'll be switching to her. She's a lovely person and gave me a great cut, both using her judgement and tweaking where I asked (a smidge off the bangs). A couple people in my life commented that, whilst they liked the previous version of my style - a shag - this was even better. The parking situation is way better than my previous place: That salon has its own, tiny lot. Hair Effex doesn't have a private lot, but the nearby municipal lot is more than likely to have a spot, and it's free. If street parking is more your thing, you might be able to snag something. read more

Personally, I do not recommend this salon at the moment. They do not have professional staff and do not know how to do their job. My last two experiences were terrible. The highlights were poorly done and required a double procedure to fix them. I also went for a simple haircut, and it was a disaster--one side was shorter than the other, and the back was even worse. I do not recommend this salon and suggest looking for more experienced professionals elsewhere. read more

I came here for a haircut for the first time ever. I showed the hairdresser an inspo picture (a simple concept!) I told her I kind of wanted a play on a lob with a curtain bang-- she said to me later during the haircutting process (once she already started cutting my hair!) that the lob was going to get super frizzy and isn't the best choice for summer. Fine (wish you told me that before hand but whatever--) she continues cutting. She also forgot to ask me where I part my hair.. a fatal mistake because now the part is all wrong. I have baby hairs as I recently had a baby and she like cut the baby hairs into the curtain bang. I then get a glaze done. And after the glaze, I am back in her chair for a blow dry. The main hairdresser I had pawned me off on the shampoo girl who glazed me for her to finish the blow dry. I spent more time with the shampoo girl (who was super nice) over the hairdresser herself. The haircut visibly looked bad. The fact that she said at the end it looked great is actually wild to me. Wish she was like oh man I screwed up your head I'm so sorry. Very concerning she thought something that was visibly so choppy looked nice. Should have spent the extra money and gone to my regular girl at a posh salon. In the meantime I'll be in a hat waiting for my hair to grow back in read more

I got my hair & make-up done here for my wedding & it came out amazing. The prices were extremely reasonable, especially for a bride. I think I paid under $150 for both. They were able to accomodate my whole bridal party by opening early and they were very reasonable ( again I think it was $55 for an updo & $55 for makeup). I have gotten my hair highlighted here a few times. It came out amazing but as most places on Long Island-the highlights ran me about 75-100. The place is nice and big-clean and very well decorated. This place is more than spectacular! You will not be disappointed at this salon! I had a horrendous experience at anther salon where I asked for bayalage and came out with an "ombré" look that looked more as if I threw blonde dye from ABOVE my ears to the ends of my hair. The color was choppy and it did not blend at all. I'm an easy going individual when it comes to hair so for me to be dissatisfied it had to be bad! I came crying into Hair Effex where staff examined my horrible dye job and was so empathetic about my situation. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, also quite chic! The staff immediately booked me for an appointment the following day with the most wonderful stylist, CJ. CJ worked on my hair for HOURS! She was meticulous, kind and attentive to my needs. She would not finish with me until I walked out looking perfect. CJ makes you feel like you're her only client in the room because she does not rush the process like many places do.
