Vanity Salon on Merrick Avenue (near Sunrise Hway) is a hair Salon in Merrick NY. Came in for a wash cut and blow dry from Jaye a lovely beautician that I was recommended to by a friend. I am glad to find someone who knows how to properly cut hair as the two wonderful people I'd had in the past, retired. The shop is in the middle of town next to a Greek restaurant in Merrick on Merrick Avenue. They have a small selection of jewlery, honey and brickerbrack for sale in the front. The place is clean and the people pleasant. The cost was 60 dollars (plus tips). Jaye did also recommend a treatment to help my hair. (see pix) read more

Been going here for over 15 years. My girl Laura is the best. She' gives me a great haircut, color and blowout. She does very nice work. She is very good with color and also does keratin treatments. The salon was just completely re-done and looks great. The owners Janine and Annie take pride and have maintained a friendly family atmosphere over the many years that this mother and daughter team have been in business together. Fran at the desk is really sweet and tries her best to accommodate everyone. I love going there as I've gotten to know so many of them and it's like a fun day out for me to just get my hair done! I've been frequenting this salon for around 5-6 years, and if you're considering going there, my suggestion is to RUN there... don't even walk. Firstly, the staff is amazing... everyone, not just my amazing stylist, JENN K. When you arrive, you'll most likely be greeted by Fran, who is super friendly and helps to cleans up the place. The floors are squeaky clean, even late at night. The inside is such a beautiful aesthetic, with amazing lighting, and my selfies from Vanity are on point. My personal stylist is JENN, and she is amazing! I have been going to her for years for everything including maintenance on my extensions, DYING my hair ice blonde, and sometimes with splashes of pink. The last time I went to Jenn, I came in with my extensions matted (and needed to be removed) and she spent a total of 2 and a half hours to get my matting under control and then dyed my hair which I cant rave more about. I like a really icy blonde and she's the only one I trust to get my hair to a real icy blonde without breakage. I cant stop raving about Jenn, because if you know about hair, blonde is one of the hardest color to achieve, but she nails it every time. My hair has never been so healthy and long. Like I said, if you're considering Vanity Salon, give them a chance, you won't be disappointed, especially with Jenn. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been searching for the perfect hair salon for YEARS and have been unsuccessful.. until I found Vanity (was recommended to me by a friend). I have been there twice for regular haircuts/blowouts with Jeanine and I couldn't be happier. Firstly, unlike every other snobby/stuck up salon i've been to on Long Island, the atmosphere at Vanity is friendly and comfortable; almost like a family. The staff are friendly and sweet and always have smiles on their faces. The salon is clean, neat and pretty. Jeanine is awesome; I completely trust her with my hair. Not only does she give a great haircut, but she teaches you how to maintain it as well (unlike most salons where your hair looks great for 2 days and then you have no idea what to do with it). And best of all, the prices are AMAZING! I'm moving to Manhattan next week, but I will absolutely travel home to Long Island to come to Vanity for my haircuts. read more

Got my haircut here for the first and only time. Asked for a haircut and she barley did anything. My hair looks exactly the same. She didnt even ask if the length was good and just started blow drying my hair. I still have split ends. I paid $60 altogether with tip. Very dissatisfied. read more

I've been going there for years and usually I use Annie or Lauren who give great cuts, however my last experience was very... rude to say the least. I had my hair Keratin straightened there 2 weeks prior and was very displeased with the results. The top of my hair was greasy and the bottom seemed very dry. It was also not straight and much less managable than I was told it would be. I figured a haircut might help this problem. I made a quick appt with Lynn and I explained the problem to her. She asked me if I knew how to rinse conditioner from my hair. I'm 23 years old. her haircut was painful and I was beginning to think she was doing it on purpose. I asked her about maybe cutting some bangs or doing a side bang, which she basically told me no and brushed me off. She was a horrible, rude woman. After she was finished with her painful blow out (i still have red marks on my forehead from the round brush) she asked another hair styloists opinion, if the ends of my hair looked dry. He said yes and said I should cut it, and it was probably like that because it hadn't been cut in awhile. She had just cut my hair. After that she said she thought it was fine and didn't know what I wanted her to do. She said I should get highlights so my hair wouldn't be greasy at the top and dry at the bottom. So it was $200 for the keratin straightening and the shampoo and conditioner, and now for the results I wanted, I would have to spend more money on something I don't want. I left disappointed, with a hair cut I didn't want, red scratches on my forehead, a headache, and no solutions. However, the woman who washed my hair was very nice. I'm not going back, and I will tell everyone to stay away. read more

I've been going here for years. If you have thick curly hair see Lauren, she knows how to give a great blowout! She listens. She won't chop 5 inches when you only want 2 cut. I wear my hair straight and curly and with the cut she gives me it looks great either way. Perfect layers and angles! I was in a wedding party and Janine gave us all amazing up dos. Went here for the first time today, went to Jackie for my color. Read the previous reviews that were from years ago, which concerned me but I disagree with every bad remark. Everyone was very friendly, shampoo girl was nice and even offered me coffee. When I made my appointment the receptionist was very accommodating. The place was just redone and looks great, very modern! The color, cut and blow was perfect for me, will definitely be coming back. They even sell cute little necklaces by the desk, I bought 2. The prices were great, cheaper than any other Merrick salon I've been to so far. And they now accept credit cards ! However, there is a gym that shares the same parking lot so I didn't get the best spot. read more

Stopped by last night after work as a walk-in. I stood in front of the reception desk where there was 3 women manning the station, one looked busy..the two were busy conversing with each other. None of the three bothered stop what they were doing as if I was invisible. Stood for a couple of minutes, waiting to be acknowledged or greeted. I guess they don't want my business. Last time I used the services of this salon, I waited more than an hour with my daughter, I vowed never to return again, but I told myself, maybe, just maybe, it would be better this time. The least that they could have done for me as a "walk-in" customer was to acknowledge me and tell me sorry-no more appointments available tonight! Terrible!!! I went in last month for the Brazilian Hair treatment. I was told it would last 4 months. The service was fine and the people were very nice. About 4 weeks after the treatment was done, I noticed my hair would get frizzy when I was blow drying it. Since this treatment is supposed to last 4 months, there is no reason for my hair to frizz up. I went on vacation to Florida and the humity showed in my hair big time. I called the salon with my complaint and shortly after I recieved a phone call back from the owner. She explained they no longer use the "stronger" treatment, but I could go back for a free hair cut or color. If I was told the new treatment they use would only last UP TO 8 weeks, I would of went somewhere else. I don't want a hair cut or color. I spent $170 because I wanted straight, frizz free hair for 4 months. Needless to say, I will NOT be going back there. A refund should of been given so I could go get my hair done the right way! read more

I met Jeanine at a garage sale and we were both waiting on line to pay. We got to talking about our professions and I knew right away how much she enjoys her craft. About four months later I called and made an appointment for a haircut. Boy was I happy with the results. Just before the summer she said it was time for a change and I agreed. Instead of combing my hair straight back, it is now styled with a part on the left side and I am able to comb my hair with my fingers or use a plastic brush where the "brushers" are spread apart. When I wake up in the morning I no longer have bed head. My family and friends continue to comment positively about my new style. I feel fortunate to have met Jeanine and I am a absolutely, positively, very happy to be a member of the Vanity Salon family. I must add Vanity also has great coffee.
