Crystal (the owner) did my hair and completly ruined it. She didn't even charge me after I sat there in foils for 5 hours. I asked for baby highlights at the top, and brightening at the bottom. I said I do not like the yellow orangy blonde tone and like the icy cool tone blonde and I like it to look as natural and have the most seamless blend. Crystal did the exact opposite. Before I came here I had the most long beautiful healthy hair. Now my hair is fried off, and completly orange and yellow. I can't leave my house it looks so horrific I'm so embarrassed. And becuase it is so destroyed I have to wait a month to get it fixed or my hair will fry off. On top of that, crystal was so rude and tried to gaslight me into telling me that this is what I asked for. The way she handled the situation was DISGUSTING and beyond unprofessional. Given what she did to me, I was beyond gracious to her and she didn't even face me to apologize and try to make it right. She had everyone else handle the situation. The other people at the salon were very nice and helpful (Ilana I think is the other manager) and called me and apologized and had me come in to go over a few treatments to try to give my hair back some hydration and attempt to repair it. I feel so uncomfortable going back there out of fear of what I might look like if I let them touch my hair again, and as of now they refuse to compensate me for all the masks and oils I have to purchase to fix my hair and the multiple sessions I will have to go to elsewhere to have it fixed. On top of that, I can only leave my hair in a hair mask 24/7 so it is constantly oily and greasy, and I have to put eyeshadow in the front of my hair to try to not make the front of my hair look so horrific. Everyone that I show is absolutely appalled, not only was I in tears but so was my mom and my grandmother for always taking such good care of my hair since I was only a little girl. I don't leave my house unless I absolutely have to, only work, and I am beyond embarrassed to go to look like this in public. After 2 weeks I am still handling the situation and I am still stuck with this horrific hair. If I could advise anyone in any way possible I would say avoid this salon at all costs!! read more

Nicole T blew me and did it right. First off, since I've been to the bellmore location I just had to call and give my name, I was in the system. I love stream lined processes! I made the appointment the day before, arrived on time and was taken immediately. Nicole washed my hair and it was bliss. Forget calgone, Nicole take me away! Then onto the blow out. Nicole asked what I wanted and I wasn't sure but she confidently handled her biz and in less than 45 minutes (my fault for taking her ear off) my hair was perfect. I am reluctant to write a review that is negative but I was sent a request to submit a review by Yelp so I figured I'd share my experience. I have nothing negative to say about the stylist or the haircut. I was taken aback by the salon's policy and the way management handled my situation. I've visited this salon a couple of times when I needed a last minute appointment, as my usual stylist requires booking her weeks ahead of time. In any case, I made a haircut appointment at Salon Nouveau and went in a half hour later. During my haircut, I was asked if I wanted to dry my hair. I said yes and that I would like to see the haircut once dry. When I went to pay, I was told I owed $75. I thought it was quite high but paid it and left. When I left, I looked up the salon online to see why the price of the cut was so high. This salon has no website and no pricing anywhere to be found. In fact, when I searched it on Bing it shows that there is a website. When I clicked on the button my phone immediately showed a warning message that it has viruses and has been hacked. I called the salon and the stylist that helped me answered the phone. I asked what her haircuts cost and she said $50. Then, she went to my appointment on the computer and said that I was charged $75 for a cut and blowout. Because she wasn't management, I asked to speak to an owner. The store manager spoke to me and tried her best to convince me that the salon is engaging in philanthropy because they are giving people a discount by paying $50 for a $75 haircut and leaving with wet hair. In my experience, I have never ever in my life been told that a "haircut" means the cutting of your hair only and leaving the salon with a wet head of hair. In fact, my usual stylist is a "master stylist" and the salon charges $45. As with every salon I've ever been to in my entire life, that means cutting your hair and drying it. I asked the manager where their prices are displayed. She immediately came up with a laundry list of excuses. First, she said they have a menu of services in the salon. They do not and prices are not disclosed or listed anywhere. She then put me on hold to look and said that there is no menu anywhere because they have so many stylists and can't keep up. Next, she said the salon can't afford a website, (although their haircuts alone cost $75). I didn't want money back so I thanked her and ended the call. The owner, Ilona, then calls me on her own. From her, I was given another list of excuses. Ilona said that the stylists are all on their own there and make their own prices (untrue). Then, she said it's too much trouble to make a menu of services, because "you know how much work that is". She then attempted to make me believe that every haircut I've ever had in my life did not include drying my hair. This was bizarre because she was telling me what MY experience has been for my entire life. I explained that this may be how she operates but that's not my experience nor have I ever, ever gone to a salon that offers a "haircut" as a service but then charges you for a haircut and blowout. Even if they do, I'm sure it's disclosed at some point, either by the stylist or on a sign or pamphlet or menu. I explained that I feel these are dishonest business practices. Ilona then went on to tell give me examples of how she is right. One of these examples was that her salon charges $65 for color. No problem, except that any salon you go to charges more for color than their cuts. She also called out other salons in the area for having shady business practices. I left it that the business practices of her salon appear to be set up to mislead and overcharge people. Which, as anyone knows, adds up after doing this to numerous clients. I will gladly stick to my expert stylists that I go to down the street, which charge $45 for a haircut (and yes that means I'm not leaving with a wet head of hair) and $65 for color. They are always honest, they do great work and they disclose their prices. The excuses offered by Salon Nouveau, from them not being able to afford a website, to not being able to make a price list because there are just "too many stylists to keep up with" to trying to convince me that I'm remembering my personal experience at every other salon I've been to, that all salons do what they do, is incredulous. Another big argument on their part was that I should know how they operate because I'd been there on another occasion. It was years ago and again I went there because my usual stylist was booked for weeks and I just needed a last minute trim. If I had the same experience, I would have questioned it then as well. Additionally, I gave tips to the stylist and assistant which then brought the total to over $100 for a basic haircut on shoulder length hair with fine texture. I will definitely not be returning to this salon and will make sure I book my usual stylist way ahead of time. I have a new appreciation for her. read more

Crystal is amazing! Came for the specialty Ouidad cut. I used to get my hair cut at Ouidad flagship but now it's easier for me to go on Long Island. Crystal completely understands curly hair, and is incredible at the ouidad cut. I have 3B/3C style curls and Crystal does an amazing job. I am absolutely mortified at what my hair looks like. I had come to this salon as a referral in the hopes of receiving help to heal my damaged hair from a previous salon. I used both visual and audio methods of communicating the desired outlook I wanted to reach. I didn't reveive it on the first visit, the second, third or fourth. I was wondering why other dark root women were able to achieve the level of blonde I was asking for but I never could for some reason and had convinced myself it was my hair not accepting the bleach as the problem. I visited the salon 2 weeks ago for my 6 week touch up appointment again reiterating the color I wanted. After the color was completed, I sat in the chair to get my trim. I was asked what I wanted and I clearly and specifically stated "if we could CLEAN IT UP". From a previous visit with the same stylist, the left side of my hair was noticeably longer than the other and I had mentioned this the most recent visit and asked if it could be fixed. When the cut and blow out were complete, I looked up in the mirror horrifed at the sight I saw. Not only was my hair NOT cleaned up, but the front was cut quite shorter than the back, the tone of my hair...omg absolutely atrocious. My hair was blown out and I looked like a mushroom and as though I was wearing a helmet. What I was looking up at was not a "clean up" from what I presented with. So with now looking like an 82 year old naned Fern, I asked if she could make the back shorter...the response I received was "I'm not finished; I like to cut hair dry". Thought to myself: okay didn't know that because I did not get a blow out on my last visit; I had the color, cut and left the salon with my hair wet as I deemed it unnecessary to spend $35 on a blow out that I could easily do myself at home. So she then proceeds to cut MORE hair off and even began thinning out my already thinned out hair from all the bleach. At one point the stylist said: "I didn't know you wanted it this short". And truth be told: I DIDN'T. I NEVER ASKED FOR IT TO BE CUT SHORT. THE TERM I USED WAS "CLEAN UP". Upon paying my bill I was approached by a woman complimenting me on how beautiful I looked (thought to myself No I don't; I look atrocious) and figured out that was her approach in trying to solicit me makeup. She began telling me I needed some blush and lipstick. I felt my body become overheated in embarassment and told her I know I do & had my makeup bag in the car. She refused to accept that answer and kept bombarding me with her overpushy sales approach. I had to pick my child up at school and told her that. She then asks me what time I have to be there. The audacity. Just accept my answer and leave it at that. I said right now and she kept insisting and pushing...complete lack of respect. She had no idea what was going on in my personal or professional life and to be approached by a salon employee telling me I need blush and lipstick and that she can show me what I need. Later, hair had turned quite a few colors; quite the lovely assortment, we had green at roots mixed with remnants of black hair, there was purple, yellow, grey, silver, black (which I had asked to be covered the last 2 visits and was still not done). Stylist mentioned lightened roots would not look good when it grows in because of dark base. Funny she never mentioned that prior visits but instead listened, looked at references and said okay. New salon I went to, the owner could not believe what I looked like. She applied an Olaplex treatment and told me to return in a week to see about lifting my roots. She felt so bad that my hair looked that she didn't charge me for it. First color appointment and received exactly what I've been asking for. I am beyond upset at what my hair cut currently looks like. My child's haircut from this salon was also completely uneven and needed correction. I am absolutely mortified. Shampoo girl apparently doesn't like it when clients slip tip money in their back jeans pocket bc they are actively washing another client. I gave this salon one star because no star was not an option. I went in a day before my appointment to make sure they knew what I wanted done to my hair. I spoke to Shareema who said she will be the one doing my hair. I felt like she knew what she had to do. The next day I went in to get my hair done , and I was very disappointed. I did not get the color that I wanted not even close to what I was looking for. My hair looks worse then it was before. My roots are bad . Then the girl who was in charge to iron my hair did a bad job because I walked out of there with the back of my hair half wet and half Dry. WORST SALON I HAVE EVER BEEN TO IN MY LIFE. As an avid salon goer and someone who knows how to do hair pretty well i was disgusted. The staff there are amateurs, they have no idea what they are doing. I went in for a blowout with special instructions on how i wanted it done and was ignored. The blowout was terrible! I had to go home and rewash and do my hair myself. The owner or manager was unattentive and unaware. One of the girls didnt even know how to use a curling iron. I have a friend who recently graduated with a license in cosmetology and was offered a job there the day after she graduated for 5 dollars an hour. Been working crazy hours and I really needed a haircut and they were open when my usual stylist was not. I have very wavy hair so I thought it impossible to get a bad haircut so I stopped into the Plainview location. The girl that cut my hair took off less than 1/16th of an inch on some layers and did not cut other layers or my bangs. I was shocked when she started to blow dry my hair so I said something. This NEVER happened to me before. She took a scissor to my now almost dry hair and randomly started chopping. I actually had to stop her. The top of my head now looked like a mushroom. I honestly have never had a bad haircut before. The manager came over to fix it. She did a decent job but I needed to go short to even out the disaster. Luckily, my hair grows fast but if one more person asks me "what did you do to your hair?" I will cry. I wasn't charged for the cut. Bottom line - don't think just because it is a decent place you will get a decent cut. Your cut depends on the stylist. Make sure you know who is picking up that scissor. read more

My cut was beautifully done and she did exactly what I asked her to do(that in itself is hard to find anywhere). My color came out amazing.
