I haven't been this unhappy with my haircut in a very long time. I started with very long hair down to my waist. I asked the woman to cut 1-2inches from the bottom and just add layers. She claims she didn't cut very much and the hair she cut was needed to make layers, but my hair is now medium-length to my chest. Her layers are also choppy and unfinished, as seen by the picture. I regret coming here, as this is not what I wanted. I paid $35 for this terrible cut. I do not recommend. read more

Walked in here on a Friday afternoon expecting some wait but they took me right away. Nancy cut my hair, and she did a great job. Nina was there too doing nails, and it seemed like she knew all her clients, including the ones on the phone, well. Both Nancy and Nina were super friendly, and I got the vibe that she has great relationships with customers. I have to admit that Nancy wasn't the gentlest stylist I've had (poked a few times in the eye and mouth, and lost a few hairs while having my hair combed) but she did an amazing job cutting and styling my hair. The salon isn't fancy and modern but I assume that is what make the prices reasonable. It is a small quaint salon with friendly staff. I would definitely recommend! read more

I have my hair cut here by Nancy----I am a woman with quite short hair----and she does a great job. People always ask me where I get my hair cut! I don't have to make an appointment weeks in advance, I can almost always call and get in the same day, and very reasonable prices. As a bonus, I can bring my small children (2 and 4) and staff are always very nice (and tolerant!) with them. Julie actually cuts my 4 year old hair, and his hair is not easy as he has a huge cowlick and very thick hair, but she does a nice job. It is not a fancy spa type place, they do "dry" cutting with no shampoo as far as I can tell, but I have been a very satisfied customer since they first opened. BTW, if you have trouble finding street parking there is a parking lot just a bit beyond on the other side of the street which I have used! edited to add: we just brought our little 2 year old daughter there for a "bob" style haircut with Julie, and she did an EXCELLENT job---very straight lines, etc, so I will definitely go back for that! read more

Not very happy with the haircut I got. Got the opposite way from what I asked for. Last two times I went there was okay, nothing extra ordinary. But the two times I got Peter as my hair specialist, I had a feeling that he was rushed. Just wanted to be done, and collected the money. He always overcharged from other ladies from this store. The two times I did haircuts, same length, were $35 including wash and blow dry. Today, He did not wash my hair, only did the haircut. Meh :/ He charged me for $45. REALLY? I've never written a review of Salon Neo??? Wow, I'm a crappy customer. When my last waxer burned half the skin off my legs right before a really important trip abroad, I turned to Yelp since you all haven't steered me wrong yet. I fell in love with Nina. she's personable, efficient, and reasonably priced. Salon Neo isn't one of those uber-fancy salons you find in Boston, but it's clean, the staff is incredibly friendly, and they ALWAYS have a huge-ass tin of those Danish butter cookies. They remember everyone, it's kind of like Cheers when a regular walks in. Even my wife, who rarely goes in, is welcomed warmly when she stops in. Do you believe in magic? I do....after Peter was done with my foil and cut! I went to Salon Neo after years of going to another salon and stylist. When she moved to an inconvenient location, I decided it was time to move on. Boy, and I glad that I took the leap of faith. I was immediately greeted by a cheerful Nina and took a seat in a clean, cozy, non-pretentious shop for a very short wait. Peter took a consultative approach. He asked pointed questions about my desired look and made recommendations by showing me swaths of color. He then folded up my hair to show me what different lengths would look like. He listened my questions and concerns without interrupting, and answered honestly and thoughtfully. Once he got an idea of my desired end result, he went to work as efficiently and diligently as one of Santa's elves. Very little small talk, but I am cool with that since I was there for a haircut and not a chat session. I was mesmerized by his technique. When he was done and I put my glasses back on my nearsighted eyes, I couldn't believe the transformation. He covered my graying temples with a beautiful dark brown color with a hint of chestnut....the closest that any hair stylist ever got to my natural color. The cut was on point. Not too short for my curly hair despite cutting inches of dead ends off. Other plusses of this business: 1) Less expensive than the dozen other local shops that I called 2) Appointment the same day I called 3) No pressure to buy other services The bottom line? Tip: for haircuts -- see Peter. he is excellent. for coloring -- see Barbara. she's pro. peter is a pro at haircuts. i'm a really picky person and would pay top dollars for a haircut and time and time again i return to peter. he always uses scissors (sign of a person who knows what he's doing) rather than razors and knows how to shape my hair so that it compliments my face and head shape. i get tons of compliments for my haircut. even when i was in the fashion industry in nyc, i was getting compliments left and right and always had to tell ppl that he was in boston, unfortunately. peter can be pretty blunt if he feels like a cut won't work out or if something won't look good on me no matter how bent on the idea i am. he gives warnings but if you really push for the cut you want, he'll give in. but i usually do heed his advice and they usually prove to be trustworthy. barbara and peter are both super nice. totally worth the price. not $15 cuts, but definitely reasonably priced compared to many salons in boston. go! read more

I followed Peter to Salon Neo from the Oki Salon which was located in the Chinatown area of Boston. He is much further from me by train now, but well worth the trip to Quincy!! His work is amazing every time I go in to get a cut. He's precise, takes his time, and always gives me what I ask for. I have short, thin hair, and he works wonders with it to build volume into the cut. If you're looking for a change of hair dressers, he's your man! read more

This is my favorite place to get my eyebrow waxed in Quincy. For $10, the experience was relaxing and not painful at all. They really know how to shape my brows and get them perfectly even. Salon Neo is a small cozy place on Hancock street. It's at a convenient location near the Wollaston T station and with lots of street parking. I recommend calling ahead to see if there's a wait or not. The staff will typically tell you when it is a better time to come so you're not waiting for a while. I always call in around the time I was planning on going and they would either let me know that they have time to see me or to come in 30 - an hour later since they were busy at the moment. Just moved to the Braintree area and was looking for a new salon, so after reading the reviews I decided to give Salon Neo a chance. It was so worth it. I was a bit nervous going in as i have not changed my hair style in 10+ years. I walked in a bit before noon and they were able to get me in right away. I was seen by Peter, who I believe is the owner, He talked wit me for a bit to figure out what I wanted, even the ends, long layers and side bangs. After getting my hair washed he took his time to blow it straight before the cut. When I say he took his time I mean it. Peter made sure what he was doing was perfect, I have never had a stylist like him before From start to finish was about an hour and a half and was worth the $45 and the time. read more

Nina does the best brows around! The other women in the salon do a fine job also, but Nina is by far the sweetest! Great for haircuts also. I have thin, fine hair that needs help in the volume department and both Julie and Peter have given me great cuts. I was in the area and I went to this place. I had a similar experience with another reviewer who said she was Spaniard. It's beyond hilarious to come across east Asians who are ignorant about different kinds of peoples in the world. The manicurists were not mean, but while my nails were being done, they kept making comments assuming I was something I was not. I couldn't help but think, "Wow - these women are idiots". I was going to give a smart-ass answer, but decided to not react because you can't argue with stupid. It was kind of entertaining to observe their stupidity. The manicure itself was not good. I was specific in what I wanted. When I went in, the shape of my nails were square and the old woman who did my nails changed the shape to round. To defend herself, she lied and said they were round, but they were not. No common sense. The daughter came to put on the nail polish. After I left the salon, I realized the nail polish was becoming bubbly. Obviously, the nail polish was old and / or too thick. She did three heavy coats. I didn't bother going back because I plan to go to another nail salon tomorrow to re-do my nails. I realized the workers were overly friendly to the anglo-American customers. I felt embarrassed for them. It later tickled me to hear an anglo-American customer talking down to one of the manicurists like she was stupid and deaf. I won't be going back to this place for sure. I concluded that not only these people don't do a good job, but they don't have any dignity and lack intelligence. read more

Eek! I don't know where to begin. Peter gave me one of the worst haircuts I have had. Ever. I came in to ask for a 6-inches cut and walked out with over 12inches off my hair in a raggy chop. I have been wearing my hair up in a ponytail hoping to hideaway the disappointment. I've been trying to "get used to it" but I cry every time I see it in the mirror and how much I hate it. Julie's been cutting and coloring my hair for a few years now and I don't think I'll ever leave. she remembers what colors we've done in the past and the color has always came out great. In fact, this past winter she matched my original hair color so well that i never grew roots at all! When I've wanted to try something more creative in a hair cut or style, it's not always been what I wanted, but I've never had any stylist accomplish that so I think the fault belongs to my hair. Nina's great with waxing too. I don't have anyone to compare her to, though, because after hearing waxing horror stories I'm afraid of trying anyone else. They are all friendly here but I wouldn't recommend them for a haircut. They over layer all the time. I have had cuts by Julie and Nancy. Nancy is the worst. She cut my hair way too short one time and when I told her it was too short, she said no, it's long. Well, it's too short for me. I asked for two inches, she cut six. She started out cutting a little but after razor cutting, she scissor cuts, and then thinning shears...I ended up with almost no hair. I was furious. It was $55 to cut my hair with Nancy. I was feeling completely hopeless with my adult onset acne, couldn't see a dermatologist for months and decided to give it a try. Nina is a miracle worker! She kept telling me it is a slow process but now a year later my face is clear and I attribute it all to Nina! On top of the facials she is amazing at waxing, best eye brow wax in town hands down. As for hair, Peter is fantastic! Always willing to work with you for exactly what you want and take his time to get exactly the style you are looking for!! Holy crap. This was the BEST haircut i have ever gotten. Anywhere. Ever. Peter is amazing and I am stunned by the result. I used to get my hair cut by Charles Maksou - dry cut, John Sahag style - before he moved to Florida. I thought Charles was the best then. Peter's cut was even better, and at a fraction of the price. I have trouble sticking with a stylist, but I promise myself now that I'll stick with Peter. And, I'm going to tell everyone about him! Honestly, I've walked by this salon a hundred times, never knowing what was inside. It's a little place in Wollaston center, next to Tony's Pizza and some kind of rug store. I made an "emergency" appointment yesterday afternoon for this morning with Peter at Salon Neo, based on the great reviews. I realized last night (after they had closed) I needed to move the appointment to earlier. I called the salon prepared to leave a message and found someone still there who was super nice and was able to alert Peter to the moved appointment. I apologized for being difficult, and she assured me it was all OK. This morning, I immediately felt at ease with Peter. I presented him with the big task of fixing a terrible haircut I had gotten a couple of weeks ago at another salon, and he rocked it! He spent two full hours shampooing, drying, straightening, giving me my options, and then meticulously doing the best he could to fix the mess on my head. His attention to detail and the effort he put in were so much appreciated, and I left with a FANTASTIC cut and also armed with style advice for the cut. I cannot believe he was able to make this out of what I had before I met him!! (I would have been impressed with this cut if he had done it with a "normal" head of hair!) Salon Neo is a hidden gem! I never would have known about them if I had not needed a Sunday hair appointment (YES they are open on Sunday!!!) I gave them a shot based on all the great Yelp reviews they had--I am so glad I did. The salon is clean and unassuming. My stylist was Peter. He was very friendly and had a great sense of humor. He worked with me patiently on determining the right style for my preference and hair type. He was so meticulous in his precision and attention to detail that I was completely blown away.
