Two stars -- one for each of the women who treated me with genuine kindness and professionalism. The shampoo attendant was warm and did a beautiful job. The stylist who stepped in gave me a lovely cut and handled a difficult situation with grace. The owner, however, walked out on my appointment after I gave a simple, polite correction about my part -- something she had asked me to show her. No explanation. No apology. She left me sitting alone, wet, for an hour on what I had told her was my first time out in a long time while navigating some personal circumstances. The cut is fine. The experience was not. I only write reviews when they're earned -- in either direction. This one was earned. read more

I am incredibly sad and disappointed in my hair cut that I received from Danielle - all my length is gone! It's back to my length from 5 years ago! Frankly I've spent the whole day in discouraged tears. I got to my appointment on time and was asked to wait in the chair. Danielle came out roughly five minutes after that fact and was immediately very kind and asked me about what I wanted and my hair routine. I said that I am trying to find a new stylist, and I just wanted a small trim to get the broken ends off. She assured me she wasn't a chopper - this was not the case. The wash was first and was excellent, she massaged my scalp very nicely. Then after she brushed out my hair she recommended about 1-2 inches off and showed it to me wet, which looked okay. She assured me since she was pulling from the back it wouldn't actually be as short as it looked. After cutting that length off she checked in again with me and said that she felt it needed another inch to get all the dead ends off, and again showed it to me wet. Looking back on it, her saying it would be longer than she showed me should've been a red flag - since my hair is wavy and it is always shorter dry and wavy than wet and straight. I agreed to her recommendation though (as I have always trusted my stylist in the past) and so I expected total to have my hair be about 3 inches shorter. It is roughly now 6 inches shorter. My hair was previously well past my boobs and now it is barely at my arm pits. I am so upset and disappointed. I thought with the check ins and her reassurances it wouldn't be so short but it is and I am in despair. It is going to take me a significant amount of time to grow this back, considering the last time I had this length was 5 years ago. I hate upsetting people so I didn't say anything about how upset I was right after the appointment, as I was frankly still in shock. She did a nice job on the technical steps and checking in and was nice - she just took off wayyyyyy wayyy more hair than I wanted or asked for - and I specifically said I wanted to keep it long. I've been coming here as my default for anything to do with my hair. I love cutting it short and getting it colored, but my scalp is sensitive and my hair is difficult to lift, so I've had plenty of botched or painful jobs. I have never had a problem when I come to Salon Milage; they periodically check in to make sure my scalp isn't burning, and they're able to significantly lift my hair in one sitting with minimal damage. Even though I have a lot of hair, they work quickly and consistently produce stellar results. Alex - Then you should have explained all this *before* you proceeded with the first basic haircut appointment, and took my money. I would not have accepted a haircut from you all if I knew you were going to cancel the follow up appointment. You went so far as to confirm this appointment with text and email, and only cancelled two days beforehand - and I had a time crunch, as this was for my wedding! The stylist at the other salon who eventually took care of the extensions for me did an excellent job (Salon Femia, just down the street), communication was seamless and easy, and I've had this same service performed several times elsewhere over the past two years - several stylists have told me it is not an unusual service to have extensions blended into hair, as you had implied. It was a very unprofessional experience. I am knocking my review down to one star as opposed to two, as I had been hoping for a genuine explanation rather than a denial of what happened. Salon Femia down the street did amazing work and the process was seamless, and I can't recommend them in contrast enough. read more

After almost a decade of searching for the perfect-for-me stylist, I can stop looking now that I've found Alex at Salon Milage! I only needed to spend about 30 seconds awkwardly trying to explain the hair cut that I was dreaming of and Alex knew right away what I was trying to describe not only because she interpreted my words correctly but she also assessed the best style and cut for my hair by examining it. We both agreed that a bob is a great cut for my hair texture and it frames my face nicely. I've had many bob cuts and I know they are difficult to do (ask me how many times I've been a hair model!), but Alex executed the cut with an experienced hand and added her own personal touches as well. Finally got an appointment and came here for haircut. Alex is awesome, I was gonna do the keratin treatment because I saw yelps pictures those look so smoothly and beautiful. But at the time when I consulted with Alex, she recommended me to do the Brazilian Blowout instead of keratin treatment cause I've already have a straight hair. So I immediately booked an appointment next time after my haircut done. For the haircut, i was super nervous cause I had bad experience when I got the haircut in Boston. But Alex was really patient and professional, she really knows what customers want, and try to reach their expectations. She she's really careful when she was doing haircut, although I didn't cut too much but I still really satisfied what she had done for my hair. I had a really great first experience with Salon Milage. Good quality balyage. However, on my second appointment I have had issues. I am a mother of a young son who works full time, so my schedule is quite busy. First, I had to reschedule because of a snowstorm prevented me from getting there. It was on a day most schools in Massachusetts, including Boston and Medford where I live, were closed. On a second day, I called in advance of the 24 hours cancellation policy because my son has been sick and I did not think I would be able to get to the salon. I was basically told that because I canceled twice under these circumstances my business was not wanted. I felt horrible about the second time, but taking care of my family is highest priority. read more

Maria was very nice and listened to the issues I was having with my long curly hair, the layers were at all different lengths and I was losing so much hair every time I combed it out after a shower. She didn't make me feel insecure or embarrassed about another problem I was having with my hair, I was also nervous about having someone look at my hair because my last experience was bad. So when she didn't just chop off like 4 inches right away, I knew she was great, she went very slow and explained to me to what she was doing along the way. I'm vey happy with how my hair looks but more importantly how it feels because I haven't had a professional haircut in YEARS and my hair feels so soft and light but still has the curls that I love and they all look so much more blended now. For a men's haircut they are basically the same price as Supercuts but they are honest, friendly, and actually care about customer satisfaction instead of following the corporate model of getting you in and out as quickly as possible. They are not some cutting-edge or frou-frou boutique, nor do they pretend to be. Alex the main stylist is very pleasant and down to earth, with none of the stuck up attitude that one might expect from such a drop-dead gorgeous woman (sorry guys, she's happily married) especially in this business. Have been there twice and will keep coming back. UPDATE, 9/02/16: They now use the Booker app, which allows you to go to their website and book appointments and services online with up to the minute accuracy...it's like looking at their appointment book in real time, to see who's available on what day and at what time! I was looking for extensions something semi permanent and salon Milage had just that. Most people know it as the keratin extension, I wanted something like this since I have straight, fine Asian hair. My hair was shoulder length but I wanted long beautiful hair for a couple events that I was invited to. Alex the business owner was so friendly and super! She was fully booked but she took her day off to see me and made sure I look fabulous! She took her time and was very patient with putting the extensions individually in! The process took about 3-4hours but I had 7packs of hair to put it. I love Alex I love my hair! Loved the result but I guess I had an allergic reaction to something, so I decided to go somewhere else in Chelsea to do it some other color ... WORST DICISION .. was left with rainbow colored hair.. so I went back to Alex and I told her what happened !! I will start off by saying I did get a nice haircut. But compared to the cleanliness of the establishment and the cost, I am not sure if it is worth the money. I got a trim and blow dry and the bill came out over $130. The place was not very clean and when I arrived there was still another's hair on my seat, as well as other people hair on round brushes and other styling tools. Mid way through the haircut the salon started to get hazy and smokey for a reason I was not sure of. I do think my stylist did a nice job though, if she were at a different salon I would most certainly go to her. read more

It can be really hard to get blonde hair done right and Alex is an expert.
