I drove 60 miles from NJ to get my hair fixed/done by Nick, and it was worth both the time and gas. I have never been treated more like a VIP than at this salon, and not for a second on my drive home did I have any doubts about how my hair turned out. I had no trouble making an appointment. Every single person greeted me with a smile. I was offered coffee and magazines as soon as I got there. The girl who washed my hair always asked how I was doing, if I needed anything, if the water temperature was ok, etc. Nick was hands down the most wonderful and professional colorist I've ever met. He took the time to educate me about hair color and how he was going to fix my hair to get the result I wanted. This man is a true artist and genuinely cares about people. I cannot say enough about him. For me, he fixed highlights that were very white/silvery that I was very unhappy with. It took 2 different toners and a careful eye on the clock in order to turn them to a normal looking blonde. Another employee said "Nick will not let you leave until he is 100% sure that he gave you what you want and you are happy." This really meant a lot to me, because I cannot say how many times I've left other salons unhappy. Also, no one at the salon made me feel rushed. The woman who dried my hair also took her time to bring my OUTSIDE in the wintertime with a mirror so I could see my hair, to make sure I was 100% happy with how it looked even in sunlight. Who does that?! This salon is fantastic. I can't say how much I appreciate my experience there. I left the salon with natural looking highlights that I've already gotten compliments on. I just recently moved from Manahattan to White Plains. I read a review on the Westchester magazine for Best Hair Colorist of Westchester for 2011 and found Nick Trombetta, owner of Salon Maffei as the one. I made an appointment with the salon coordinator, who was ever so gracious. I got my hair done before New Year's Eve and was very concerned....going to a new salon is always traumatic for me:) When I arrived at the salon, I was greeted by Ronnie, who called an assistant who immediately made me comfortable, I was served coffee and greeted by several other stylists as well. (That was a first. Usually these types of salons have a very egotistic sense of themselves!) I already felt at home. Nick, came over with a big smile and introduced himself and escorted me to his chair. Our consultation lasted over 20 minutes! I knew I was with the right hair colorist immediately. He first asked me about what I did not like and than what my wishes were. He inspected my old color and made a few suggestions on some new changes. I am always reluctant to change, but his very detailed explanation made so much sense, that I decided to let him do his thing. He explained in every detail the do's and don'ts, and how hair color works and why certain things I had done in the past were incorrect. Nick took the time to give me every detail and impart his knowledge on how the outcome would be a success. In the end my hair color was smashing!! The result was beyond anything I had imagined! Though I am not thoroughly grey, as luck would have it, along with some grey dispersed throughout my hair, the first few hairs in my widow's peak on the front of my head are grey. I've discovered a wonderful salon within the White Plains area. The shop is warm and friendly, from the proprietor Nick, the receptionist, Ronnie, to all the hair professionals buzzing along with their clients. I always feel relaxed and welcome every time I go. It is very affordable in comparison to a Greenwich salon which I used until it became much too expensive for regular visits. Now I happily go often and am in great hands with Patty Malleturo. She is a seasoned colorist and stylist who listens to my challenges and needs. Patty just recently convinced me to add highlights for the first time - an edgy move for conservative me - and I love it! It is so subtle and natural that I love how it looks. As a florist, for me, things must look natural; and I find my new brunette color is lovely and blends well for my age and skin. And of course the cut and style is a delight to fix every day. I know Stephanie Coelho since 2005. I think that she has a rare combination of being an amazing stylist and colorist. I like that I can come and get a full attention from one person who can combine both the look in color for me and have an open and honest conversation what's good and what we can do better. We went from long dark hair to short bobbed hair with blond highlights. I think Steph can work with adventurous people and more conservative equally well. She has an instinctive take on people and it feels good that at the end i will see myself smiling and happy with whatever she makes with my hair. Today was my second time at Salon Maffei. I have to say I'm so glad I have found my new salon! This place is wonderful- it is clean, tastefully decorated, every staff member I have encountered is genuinely friendly and the talent is amazing. I work in luxury hospitality so it is very hard to impress me- my standards are high. This salon is most definitely deserving of a 5 star rating. My stylist; Dominic Louis, is unbelievably talented. I trusted him to totally reinvent my look- cutting 9 inches off the length of my hair and adding a blunt bang. I am so happy I did, this new style has given me so much life!
