Debated completing this review because i was torn. I'm new to the area and in search of a 'regular' place and I live so close. Ive gone in twice now as a new customer and the second time I left feeling unreasonably overcharged and uncomfortable. first time was May 2024, I asked for just a trim and was catered to a wonderful hair wash & blow dry for an affordable price. I wasn't expecting that much BECAUSE I had asked for a basic trim. However, that customer service and kindness led me to plan for a follow up haircut! It was worth it! So I recently called, July 2024, made an appointment for the next day and brought day old hair, thinking I'm going to get the same treatment, wash, etc. so excited for the self-care I was going to do for me, but NOPE. She didn't remember me (ok whatever that's fine no big deal) but she just treated me like a stranger, straightened my hair, cut it into uneven terrible layers and in less than 15 minutes charged me $40 for something that should've been $20. I left feeling taken advantage of so I'm sad to say I'm going somewhere else next time. read more

I had the best experience today at Salon J & J. I had set up an appointment for a haircut and style. When I arrived, I thought the salon was lovely, clean, very comfortable. I was greeted by Justine and we spoke about they hair style she believed would work for me. I had pictures of what I thought I wanted. It was really great that my pics and her suggested hair style were one and the same. Justine got to work and I told her to cut my hair as she thought would suit my face and a let me tell you she was amazing. My hair was long and she assured me that the bob style would be perfect for me, and she was so right. Justine was professional, cheerful, knowledgeable and took time to tell me how to achieve the style that I would do at home. I'm in my 60's and I have never had a stylist take the time to tell me how to blow out my hair at home to maintain the style. Justine you are an amazing stylist. Just moved to the area and needed a trim so bad! Stumbled upon this salon on Yelp with the best reviews/ratings. Called in the morning to see if they had openings in the afternoon, and luckily they did! Justine was who I spoke to on the phone and who did my hair. She is the owner and she is such a joy! Great conversations, and she gave me a lot of insight about how to make my hair better. Before doing anything she was polite and always asked if it was okay that she did something before she did it. For example, she asked if I would like curtain bangs and explained what she would do before doing it. I can tell she is passionate about hair and really cares about her clients. She treats our hair as if it is hers. So she gives her best advice and suggestions. If you want to get your hair done, I suggest calling to ask questions, get quotes, and make an appointment! It's much more efficient if you want to get your hair done a certain way. To end off my review, I paid $30 for my trim which is such an affordable price. They also do men's haircuts as well! I couldn't be happier! I've been going to the same stylist for over 10 years, but her salon is in Orange County and flying out every few months can be a challenge. That said, trusting someone new with your hair can also be a gamble. I'm very happy to say that this gamble paid off! I reached out via Yelp messaging and got a response within hours. They were able to get me in within a few days and although I wasn't sure about trying someone new, I ended up falling in love with this salon. Well, I think the pictures attached will explain the rating. Unfortunately, the balayage was not properly blended or toned. I was quite upset with the result, I went back the following weekend and the stylist was kind enough to touch it up and most of it ended up better. However, I was still charged for her time and she mentioned she had "forgotten to cut the back of my hair at my initial visit" so she was "glad I came back." The stylist was kind the entire time at both visits. That said, I don't see how you can let a client walk out like this, "forget to cut the back of their hair" (meaning she only did the two front pieces), and then charge the client to fix the mistakes caused by the initial work completed. They seem to have a lot of male hair cuts throughout the day, if you're looking for a quick cut this place might be a good fit. If you're looking for a stylist / colorist I recommend looking elsewhere. read more

If you want a fair price and a good stylist, this is the place to go. Tina and Justine are knowledgeable and good at their craft. They don't try to gouge you. Highly recommend! Btw, I just saw a comment posted about a year and a half ago that was very negative about Tina. I have known her for years, and I can assure you, that what was written about her is it extreme falsehood, I would have to say. And all the years I've been seeing her we have been able to discuss anything, and we do. I have never heard anything come out of her mouth that was remotely close to being racist about anyone, and she's a very respectful person. Also, she goes out of her way to make sure I get exactly what I want, not what she wants. I don't understand why anyone would post such a derogatory rating about her. read more

This is now my second time coming to this salon and I receive nothing but great customer service!! The first time I came in I really needed help with my hair long story short this other salon messed up and turned my entire head head or hair black and gave me horrific layers my hair looked horrible so I called this nearby salon which was this salon she told me not to worry and to come in right away so she could observe my hair, next thing you know she did her thing and literally saved my hair. Tina is the reason for this 5 star rating. She is a trained barber and does my fiancee's hair exactly how he likes it. And, I love it too! I got my hair done here yesterday. I work from home and am a single parent so you can imagine that I don't pay much attention to my hair. I came in to get 4 inches off and some long layers. I am satisfied. The owner, Justine (?), cut my hair and we had some really great conversations in the 45 minutes I was there. I didn't really need my phone to keep me entertained (Isn't that what we all do now?). Clean shop and good prices! I paid $30 + tip for my extreeeeeeemely long hair! HORRIBLE HAIR COLOR BY TINA. I have medium brown hair and asked for a reddish brown color, namely AUBURN....instead i got black with Magenta. red I had showed her a photo of the color i wanted and she responded with my hair was too short for that???? She then showed me color swatches that were smaller than my fingernail...i told her that i couldn't discern the color..but again reiterated that I wanted AUBURN. I ended up with a color that was exactly the same color as hers - which is nothing remotely what i wanted. In top of this, she had the nerve to say many derogatory remarks about black people. "They are always cussing and are bad people" The person that owns this salon should fix my horrendous hair and make sure that Tina doesn't continue to spread her vile racism. My review is for Elaine specifically. She is a hair stylist at this salon and is AMAZING. Ive been going to her for over a year and followed her to this salon. She listens to what you want and I have never left her chair disappointed! I have very long hair and she never cuts off more than I am comfortable with. I get full highlights everytime and they turn out beautiful and well blended. She gives good recommendations for upkeeping your hair too. I think she is great and skilled at her job! I decided to try out a new salon and I'm so glad I did! I have to say this is the best salon I've ever been to! I made an appointment and Justine helped me right away. She is the owner of this shop and she was so friendly and kind which made me feel very comfortable. Her customer service is amazing and my hair turned out amazing. I asked her for caramel highlights and I also got a trim. My hair was so dry and I desperately needed a hair cut since my split ends were getting worse as time went on. She educated me about using the right products on hair and keeping it healthy even when you color it. Her salon uses the best quality products and my hair definitely notices the difference since it's not dry but shiny and looking healthier than ever!! She made my hair feel healthy again and added volume and life back into it. Also, pricing is very reasonable. I'm so impressed with the results and it's exactly what I asked for.
