He worked with me to come up with a great style and color. Even when I went PINK he did an amazing job! I LOVED! He's very easy to talk to and makes sitting in the chair a nice place to be so it's like visiting at a friends house, but now you get your hair done too! I'm spoiled and won't go to anyone else. I trust Gordon completely with my hair. The receptionist Alexis is so great too! Always greets me with a smile and calls me by my first name. I love her! The salon itself was nice and the staff seemed friendly. At first, everything seemed fine, and I clearly explained how I wanted my hair styled. I have a short bob that can be styled in a lot of different ways. When my stylist parted my hair down the middle, I got a little nervous but hoped it would turn out okay. The entire service was done with just a round brush and blow dryer. When she finished, I was honestly disappointed and told her so. The style made me feel like I looked like a little boy, and I said I could have achieved the same result myself at home. She responded by saying that's just how my hair responds, but I disagreed because I've had my hair styled many times before and know what it's capable of. (Basically I called BS) I even offered to show photos of previous blowouts I've loved. What I asked for was simple, some volume with a slightly sleek finish. I also mentioned that my hair can be parted in different ways. At one point she suggested curling it, but after later looking at the salon's website, I noticed they charge extra for flat iron or curling iron work, which may explain why it wasn't initially offered. To her credit, she did try to fix it, and it looked better, but overall I still wasn't very happy with the experience. I paid, tipped, and moved on, but for $45, I personally didn't feel it was worth it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return.

Great service, fabulous stylish salon with all the extras - including wine and snacks. Nico does an amazing haircut. I've recommended it to other friends who have also had great results. I also want to add - Nico is a no-pressure stylist who gets a customer's vision. I have long hair and several previous stylists try to convince you to cut it shorter, get tons of layers, etc. He never does that and has trimmed and maintained my layers impeccably for years. I get a zillion compliments!

Like so many things labeled "fusion" out there, Fusion Salon tends to do American much better than…read morethey do ethnic. Recalling the fondness my most fashionable (White) friend from college had for this place, I came to this place in August 2010. I had just received an iffy haircut from a cheap Asian hairdresser in Swillberg with rudimentary texturizing and fading skills and I wanted something a step above the standard 15-minute haircut. I figured if anyone could cut my difficult hair well, it would be these guys. At first glance, Fusion was all I had ever dreamed of in a salon. They had comfortable chairs and an extensive magazine collection in the waiting area, Vampire Weekend and other cool indie tunes pumping from the speakers, local art on the walls, and Harney & Sons tea in the pantry. The massive leather barber's chair in which I sat to get my haircut was even more comfortable than the chairs in the waiting room and a peppermint facial massage and hot towel treatment came with every haircut. At $30 plus tip, the price was a little steep, but I loved everything about this place. Except my haircuts. While Jes gave me decent, fashion-forward haircuts when I first started going there, it was never exactly what I asked for and I found more and more wrong with the end results as time went on. After about 5 months, I began noticing unevenness (I'm talking 1/2 inch difference from left to right sides) and my fade soon began to resemble a bowl cut. Admittedly, I have two large protrusions of bone on both sides of my head and my Asian hair is ultra straight, but over the years, I have discovered that these things could be compensated for by cutting my hair to a certain shape, rather than cutting it based on how it might look in a couple of weeks or how you believe my hair might eventually fall. Asian hair doesn't fall. Like a bad relationship, I continued going to Fusion probably much longer than I should have because I was comfortable. I liked the people who worked there, I liked the atmosphere, and the haircuts were satisfactory, at times. I knew how difficult it was for me to find someone who could actually cut my hair and I had tremendous anxiety when thinking about searching for a new salon. But I had to break it off. I'm not saying that Fusion Salon isn't a good place to get your haircut. I'm sure if I were a White woman looking to update her look or a White man asking for something easy, I'd probably still go here every three to four weeks. Unfortunately, I don't fall into either of these categories.

She told me all the options such as rinse, Demi-permanent and permanent and told me the pros and cons of each. She didn't try to force anything on me and let me decide. She clearly explained what to expect when I chose just a color rinse and sure enough the outcome was exactly what she said it'll be. During my appointment I also told her I'd been cutting my own hair for years and wanted to keep my length but get rid of as much split ends as possible. She did exactly that and didn't cut too much. I felt like she really listens to what you want and delivers. It made me feel comfortable going shorter the second time and trying a new style. I have tight coily type 4a-c hair and hadn't gotten my hair professionally straighten in over ten years so I was so happy that my hair turned out straight and the second time it lasted it lot longer. I love that she roller sets me first and then blow dried and straightens it. I didn't have any heat damage. Ultimately I love her salon and the experience. It's so relaxing I want to fall asleep. And she keeps the doors locked so not just anybody could walk in. I think anyone that has had bad salon experiences would feel relief knowing that Hazel is a stylist you can trust and you and your hair are in good hands.

My Experience at Hazel Hair Studio - Rochester, NY…read more I was a client of Hazel Hair Studio for about a year, going back and forth for full sew ins, and I never knew there were any issues until recently. I reached out in a fairly long text asking a few simple questions about possible changes I wanted to make to my hair for my next appointment. All I asked was whether she offered closure maintenance or replacement at the client's expense if the closure started pushing back while the rest of the sew-in was still intact. I also asked if she had my previous hair information on file so I could determine whether I needed another bundle. I had taken a break after my brother passed away, and this was my first time returning. My intention was simply to communicate my preferences and make sure we were on the same page before spending another $800 or more on my hair. I even use humor and emojis in my messages to help convey my tone. I wasn't looking for an argument or trying to make things difficult; I was asking reasonable questions about services she offers. To be fair, there were a few times in the past when I asked her to make small tweaks. I believe there were approximately two adjustments, along with two specific preferences regarding the lace closure and the hair net used during my sew in. Nothing unreasonable or outside the scope of her work. During my last appointment, she also plucked way too much hair from my closure, which affected the look I wanted. Looking back, I can't help but wonder whether these previous requests had something to do with how things eventually unfolded, although I can't say for certain. The point is that I wasn't asking for anything out of the ordinary. These were basic preferences and adjustments related to a service I was paying hundreds of dollars for. Her response to my recent text was to apologize for the inconvenience, tell me she didn't think she was the best fit for me, and send me a list of other salons. Honestly, I was shocked. After being a returning client for approximately a year, I never expected to be dropped simply for asking questions about my own hair. When you're spending $800 or more on a service, you have every right to communicate your preferences, ask questions, and discuss options before booking. Professional communication should go both ways. If she had concerns, I would have appreciated an actual conversation rather than being dismissed as a client. What makes this experience even more disappointing is that I had concerns about previous appointments, too. On multiple occasions, the blow dryer was held extremely close to my scalp on high heat, causing me pain. During my last appointment, I actually said "ow" and moved away, but there was no acknowledgment. I was also poked with the sewing needle while my bundles were being installed. These experiences left me questioning the level of care and attention I was receiving. I also often felt there was very little effort to engage with me during appointments, even when conversations were happening with other workers in Spanish. I understand that people can speak whatever language they are comfortable with, but as a paying client, I sometimes felt left out and disconnected from the experience. I can't speak to her intentions, but the way this situation was handled left me feeling as though my business was welcome as long as I stayed quiet and didn't ask questions. I've had long-term hairstylists before, and I've never experienced anything like this. My previous stylist and I were very close, almost like family, and we could communicate openly about my hair without it becoming an issue. I understand that not every stylist and client will be the right match, but there is a professional way to communicate that. After sharing my experience, I also heard from others who said they had experienced similar treatment, which made me feel less alone in what happened. And yes, I did send a follow-up text expressing my frustration because I was upset about how the situation was handled. I'm not going to pretend otherwise. However, my original message was simply about my hair, my preferences, and the services I was considering booking. Thankfully, I've found someone who can travel to me and give me the look I love, and I'm moving forward. Honestly, I'd rather find a stylist I feel comfortable communicating with than continue paying someone when I no longer feel welcome. My advice to other clients: Never be afraid to ask questions about your hair or communicate your expectations before spending your hard-earned money. You are free to run your business however you choose, but clients are equally free to share their experiences. I wasn't asking for special treatment, unreasonable demands, or anything outside her line of work. I simply wanted to communicate about my own hair. This was my experience, and unfortunately, it was not a positive one. Do better!
