So, I just randomly chose Kenzie because she had a time that fit well with my schedule. And I'm really glad I did. I went in and explained what I wanted, I showed her pictures from back when I really enjoyed how my hair was cut. She then proceeded to wash and cut my hair. She then deliberately dried my hair so that she could continue to cut it while dry - which honestly I think it the best for my hair. Kenzie worked her magic while asking for input from me. I was able to tell her what I wanted and where I thought it needed some changes, and she was very open and responsive to that input. I really appreciated that. In the end, my hair is exactly the way I wanted it, and I am VERY VERY happy. I will definitely be coming back to Kenzie at Ritual Salon!

When I came in to see her last week, my hair had been suffering from an unfortunate impulse to go red (normally I'm blonde). The resulting color was... tragic. And kind of tan. Julianna to the rescue! I assumed it would take multiple seasons to get my hair back to normal and get the red out, but she had me feeling like a QUEEN in just 2 hours!! The salon itself was nice and the staff seemed friendly. At first, everything seemed fine, and I clearly explained how I wanted my hair styled. I have a short bob that can be styled in a lot of different ways. When my stylist parted my hair down the middle, I got a little nervous but hoped it would turn out okay. The entire service was done with just a round brush and blow dryer. When she finished, I was honestly disappointed and told her so. The style made me feel like I looked like a little boy, and I said I could have achieved the same result myself at home. She responded by saying that's just how my hair responds, but I disagreed because I've had my hair styled many times before and know what it's capable of. (Basically I called BS) I even offered to show photos of previous blowouts I've loved. What I asked for was simple, some volume with a slightly sleek finish. I also mentioned that my hair can be parted in different ways. At one point she suggested curling it, but after later looking at the salon's website, I noticed they charge extra for flat iron or curling iron work, which may explain why it wasn't initially offered. To her credit, she did try to fix it, and it looked better, but overall I still wasn't very happy with the experience. I paid, tipped, and moved on, but for $45, I personally didn't feel it was worth it. Unfortunately, I wouldn't return.

Since then, I've made loyal customers of my husband, my mother, my two sisters, and two friends. Kathy does great work with all textures and styles. But as someone who has curly hair, it's particularly difficult to find a good hairdresser. Every curly girl I've ever sent Kathy's way has been overjoyed. She knows exactly how to prevent the dreaded triangle-headed effect, and while she will counsel you on frizz-taming products, she definitely won't push them. I've never had a bad experience with Kathy. Kathy converted a room of her home into a full-functioning salon. (The first time I went to her, I was a bit confused to be driving through a suburban neighborhood.) But as a result, she's able to charge a lot less, even though she has decades of experience. I used to go to pay around $45 a cut for inconsistent results; Kathy is half the price and always perfect. Every appointment with Kathy is a joy; she's upbeat and bubbly and has the ability to make you feel simultaneously like an honored guest and a pampered client in her beautiful home.

I have really curly hair and I was not expecting to have any luck with my hair. I am not from Rochester so I was even more skeptical! But once I called Kathy and set up an appointment, I had known she knows her stuff. The first half hour I was there, we just talked about what I use in my hair, how i style it etc etc. She went through the dos and don'ts especially with curly hair. She then proceeded to show me where my hair was cut wrong, how many inches she needs to take off in order for it to be healthy. Any question I had, she answered no problem. She cut my hair, layered it and straightened it for me so I can see the layers and it is beautiful! I will be coming back in a few months for a trim but I recommend this lovely lady to anyone!! She works out of her home and her in-house salon is gorgeous! HIghly recommended to anyone!
