Been here a few times, and I feel like I have enough experience to make an informed review for Salon Dulay. Short version: I love it. Long version: Read ahead. If you're a new customer, there is a throughout assessment on the current condition of your hair, your typical style and habits, what it is you're looking for in this cut or style, and what products may work best for your needs. After discussing some of those points, your stylist takes you to the washing station for shampoo and conditioning. They also perform a majestic hand massage, as well as a little aromatherapy session. They ask if you're interested in an additional freebie of your choice, like a eye or lip moisturizer, and I can't remember the other one (sorry!), but I have had each, and I love them! The last experience there was the best for me. I had the pleasure of meeting Christy S. and I decided I wanted what is considered a makeover cut. My hair was long and slightly unruly, and I decided to chop a considerable amount and style it in a way that compliments my face shape, plus low-maintenance in general. As I discussed all of these things with Christy, I felt extremely confident that she understood what I wanted, and she also made a few suggestions of her own that would add value to what I wanted, and we went for it! All in all, I was SO happy with the outcome. It was such a great experience, and most importantly, I walked out feeling really confident about my look with ZERO hair regrets. Also, it was FUN!. I had such a great time with Christy, and I think everyone in the staff is just lovely. Oh, I did NOT mention that you are welcome to have a drink on the house, wine, water, bourbon! Yes! This place was amazing. I called for a consultation because I had no idea what to request and got an appointment to go in and discuss with a color stylist what I wanted. Tabitha was amazing and so sweet. She knew JUST what I wanted. She wrote up an estimate on time and money and I agreed to it and then we scheduled my color appointment. Got there, was offered a complimentary beverage and immediately she got to work. During the rinsing, they even do a hand and arm massage! This new mama will definitely be back! read more

I've been visiting Salon Dulay on and off for a few years now. I previously used them to correct color and cuts from other stylists but this hard headed girl now knows that THIS is the salon for her. As you might know, Salon Dulay is an Aveda salon, so right off the top of the bat, you know you are in good hands with knowledgeable people and good products. Aveda cares for their customers as well as the environment ... so, its a double impact of positivity! On a personal note, I can't seem to find better color than what Aveda offers. Usually an earth friendly product might not offer the same "sha-boom" that others might, but that is not my experience with these products. The color is a much better quality than any others I have tried. A huge bonus is the smell of their products ... even the hair color! AMAZING! My colorist at Salon Dulay is Bernice and she is the cat's meow. My first time seeing her, she fixed a really bad color job I had gotten at another popular salon in town and I felt like a brand new person when she was done. (I have a feeling she does a lot of these ... and she does them well ... she's a miracle worker!) So, I highly recommend her for your coloring needs. When visiting this wonderful haven, you will be treated to wine, water or coffee. You will probably be asked a couple of times if someone can get you something ... they really want to treat you right! You will also get a hand massage while your hair is being conditioned ... another treat! Overall, its a really relaxing place to be. So, this is my permanent salon now. I've tried some of the best places in the area but none have held a candle to Salon Dulay. Everyone is nice. The stylists are great at what they do. They treat you with respect. Salon Dulay is very nice. They operate a little differently than other salons I've used. For example, if you're getting color done you'd have a separate colorist and a separate stylist who cuts and styles your hair. So in theory you could book two separate appointments if you are short on time or back to back. There is separate pricing for both (which is explained very well on their website). They also serve complimentary beverages and snacks. I had a half head Highlight and a cut & blow dry. It took about 3 hours from start to finish. Overall, I had a great experience and I plan to return. Sandy did a great job with the color and Cristalis was a great stylist. I didn't really know what I wanted outside vague terms but they really delivered. read more

GREAT overall experience: I finally tried Salon Dulay Aveda for a full highlight after a very negative experience at a different nearby salon. I had never been to a large full service salon like this before and everyone who worked with me made it a very comfortable, straightforward, positive experience. Nonna (colorist, blonding specialist) specifically went above and beyond. she did a very thorough consultation as well as a tour of the whole salon, so I knew what to expect every step of the way. She was very clear with expectations about achieving the look I want, and we came up with a plan together. I really liked that she explained the work she was going to do, explained the costs, and planned for a shadow root so I wouldn't have to come back every couple weeks. This was a very big plus for me, since my previous colorist (different salon) made fun of me in front of other clients for not coming in often enough. Nonna was also super kind to me when pointing out I had areas of hair loss (due to Illness or stress) but reassured me it was growing back. My other stylist didn't even tell me this was happening, so I wasn't aware the problem was that bad. Now that I know, I can focus more on taking vitamins to help my hair growth as well as things I'm already doing to decrease stress. Overall, Nonna did a great job fixing my highlights and brightening up my look, and I'm excited to continue working with her for my ultimate hair goals. The expertise was enough to make me return to this salon, but the fact that Nonna was clear, honest, kind, and funny, makes me certain I'll return to her specifically (: Charles also did a great job with my cut. He was quick, precise, and gave me exactly what I asked for, but in a way that would specifically flatter my face and hair texture. I loved that he provided so much education during the cut as well for better ways to care for my hair. The only negative was that a couple of the front desk hosts seemed a bit passive aggressive when I first went into the salon with my husband to ask questions before making an appointment. I have anxiety and sometimes it takes me a minute to communicate my point. One of the girls very obviously smirked at me when I first asked about what services to book online for fixing highlights and overall going blonder and she let her coworker take over instead of answering my question. It felt very much like I was "wasting their time" since I didn't know the right terms to use. I felt uncomfortable by how arrogant they were but I'm glad I still went through with booking the appointment. read more

Still not sure I love my hair. What I'm sure of is - they totally took me with the extra $44 charge for more product. I watched Nonna apply 2 brush fulls of color to the right side of my head and then needed more product to start the left side where she only used 1 brush full - I know it's an Aveda deal but doesn't sit well with me! CARING OWNER :) I'm revising my original review from one star to three stars. May 14th (second visit): After my first visit, the salon owner called me to apologize and kindly offered to do whatever she could to make it right. I agreed to came in for a second visit, and am happy I did. The colorist, Lauren, was great! She walked step-by-step through her plans to correct the color, and made sure I was comfortable throughout the process. The color is consistent, no more two-tone skunk look! The highlights are very well blended, not chunky. And she even recommended something I'd never seen before, she brushed on darker color lightly at the part then quickly rinsed out, just to soften the line of demarcation. Fabulous! I would happily recommend Lauren to anyone for coloring!! As a parting "olive branch" they gifted me full size Aveda shampoo and conditioner, which was a very nice gesture! May 12th (first visit): I came in with brown hair and caramel highlights, requesting to even out the bottom and top, as the top was lighter. Kelsie (junior colorist) made the top BLONDE. Yep, solid blonde contrasting with the dark brown preexisting color underneath, effectively a skunk. Not at all what I asked, exactly the opposite in fact. Another colorist applied toner to correct the blonde, which was left on too long and removed all of my preexisting caramel highlights on the top. (So there's that money down the drain). And, they didn't have time to fix it today or tomorrow. read more

I was in town and in need of a root touch up and blow out (ok, not a NEED...but it's nice!). My colorist was very nice & took ample time to talk with me about options, look I was going for, etc. My stylist was also a nice gal who did a great job on my blowout & and aromatherapy session. At the end I was given my formulas (for a future colorist to use) & the stylist gave me a free sample bag (for new customers). This isn't a huge deal, but both ladies knew I'd likely not be a returning customer - huge sign to me they're into providing good service even without the potential future revenue. This is the best salon I've ever been to, it's a quality, superb experience from start to finish. When you walk in, you're greeted to clean and relaxing aromas with a comfortable waiting area in a cute little boutique. The reception team is always wonderful and offer you a complimentary drink of your choosing. When you're brought back, the main room is for haircuts and a separate room is for color, each with their own wash area. Decor is modern and simple, with nice, relaxing BGM. Every stylist I've had has been superb. I first visited after a hair mishap at a different salon. I went to Salon Dulay at the recommendation of a friend and they took care of me in my fragile, hair panic. I've never been anywhere else since that day. I have Amanda O. as my colorist and she's a pro. I've had several different stylist do my cut and they've all been amazing. My favorite part is getting your hair washed. The small room is dimly lit, you relax in your leather lounger, which is super comfortable! The stylist proceeds to wash your hair, do aromatherapy with a scalp massage, wrap your head in a warm towel, do a hand and arm massage and even offer to touch up makeup. It feels like you're at a spa, this is such a quality experience! Seriously, look no further if you're looking for a new haircut/color spot. I chose Salon Dulay out of a list on Google after moving to Windermere just a few weeks ago. I am so glad Google directed me here. This is my first experience with an Aveda salon so I don't know if this level of service is something all Aveda salons provide, but either way, I am truly blown away. The experience started from making an appointment. The receptionist on the phone explained the tiered pricing to me and I was able to choose the level of experience and pricing that I was comfortable with. On the actual day of the appointment, the service continued. When I stepped into the salon, I was greeted warmed and offered a drink of my choice. After I filled out the paperwork, my stylist Zella gave me a quick tour of the salon. Zella then sat me down at the station and discussed my haircut in detail to make sure she understood what exactly I was looking for. After the cut, I was brought over to the shampoo/conditioner station, the lounger is so comfortable. Here is also where Zella did my aromatherapy, arm/hand massage, and provided an additional service (I chose a lip balm). Throughout the entire experience, Zella checked in to make sure I'm still happy with my decision and that I didn't have any questions. She made adjustments to my hair to make sure I truly love the new cut! As a first timer to the salon, I walked away with a few samples and a card from the owner. The experience makes the salon feels more like a visit with a friend. I was given the option to purchase any full size products they used on me, but it didn't feel like they were pushing for a sale. About 3 days after my cut, I received a check up call from the salon to make sure I'm still happy with the cut. I can't wait to visit Salon Dulay again in the near future! read more

I came in last week for a partial highlight after doing a previous color consult. When I left, the color was like nothing we discussed, the the service ended up costing significantly more than discussed due needing more color for my very thick hair. So, not a great experience. That being said, the salon manager, Jillian, went above and beyond to resolve the situation. Today I returned to the salon and saw a different colorist, Stephanie W, who listened to my concerns about the color done last week (my highlights were WHITE compared to my dark hair otherwise, not a good look), and patiently walked me through the process to resolve the issue and bring me up to a nice honey blonde throughout the highlights. She accomplished the color she promised PERFECTLY! Stylist Sarah finished up my hair to ensure that it was colored (and styled) to fit my hopes, and she did incredible as well. I can't wait to return to Salon Dulay in a few months for more color with these girls! Truly, I can not recommend them enough! read more

I love this place, and I've been going here consistently since it first opened in Windermere. When I moved away to go to school, I planned my appointments months in advance around times I knew I'd be in town. I've gotten both hair cuts and hair coloring done, and each time, Salon Dulay has not disappointed. I always request Bernice when I get my hair colored. As for hair cuts, I'm not too picky because the staff knows what they're doing. I won't go anywhere else. They use Aveda products, and unlike the Aveda Institute, they don't push the products. They'll recommend what they used during your visit, which I appreciate because sometimes I do like the products they use. For cast members, there's a 10% off your service. I recently went to this salon for a cut/color. My hair is extremely damaged and has streaks rather than highlights. My scalp is also red, inflamed and itchy. Spent well over $400, so not worth it. I had to rewash and style my hair because it was so frizzy and sticky from product. Won't be revisiting this establishment. read more

I was told there was nothing they could other than schedule me for five hours later... with no apology provided. Despite the absurd amount of time (3 plus hours) for a single process every time, I kept giving this place a second chance because of convenience. They have lost a customer after this after their lack of ownership after a mistake was made and no attempt to properly remedy the situation. read more

Well this review is way overdue.. it was several months ago I walked into the salon to be presented to I would say The BEST of the best a top stylist "Marisol" she not only has the look of a celebrity stylist her techniques and precision where mind blowing. This place gave me an amazing experience both times, start to finish! Incredibly relaxing and at some times spa-like. Everyone was genuinely pleasant. This is an Aveda salon, but they didn't oversell the products (which makes me more inclined to actually look at them) but used a perfect amount on my hair and even gave me samples (on my second visit) to take home and try. Brandon gave me a "makeover cut", which meant it was going to be a dramatic change. In this case, taking about 10 inches off. He spent a ton of time going over every tiny bit of my hair so it was absolutely perfect. I cannot say enough about my appreciation for his professionalism and thoroughness! It was like he treated my haircut as a work of art. As an actor, my hair is hugely important, so I cannot thank him enough. Nona (unsure of spelling...) gave me partial highlights, and took so much time and care in the process. She knew I was going to see friends after my appointment and wanted to make sure I left looking fabulous, and even made time to do some extra things for me no charge. It was my first time changing my hair to blonde, and she walked me through every step since some people freak out when their hair is radically different.
