I was in need of highlights and the place I had gone to was booked up for a month so I began to check around and after reviewing yelp and google came across Dovini. Went to the website and looked at the staff and chose Nikki because I figured someone with beautiful blonde hair would understand what I was looking for. May sound strange, but that's just how I looked at it. I came a little early and was taken right away. Nikki was very nice and got to work fast. While they find out what you are wanting they give you a quick shoulder massage. Honestly I wasn't sure what the heck was going on and it seemed a bit rushed so not very relaxing. Wasn't until she was done that it dawned on me what she was doing (lol) I asked many questions and she responded with good explanations. I felt comfortable and she was very efficient while doing the foils. At the shampoo station you are offered a hot towel for your face when they shampoo you and I was all into that, felt good on such a chilly day. Back in the chair she gave me a cut and I was leaving it up to her what she felt was best for my hair. I had like 4" removed to take off a lot of damage from past bleaching. Blown and straightened. Loved the color and my hair feels so soft. I've already booked my next visit Because I was so pleased with the service. After all said and done I would recommend this salon to others. I'm extremely happy with Nikki. The only CON I would say was there was an extra charge included in my price that I was not aware of until paying regarding using a double batch of bleach for my hair. I feel that is something that should have been discussed prior to starting, not that it would have changed my mind about getting it done, just don't like the surprise at the end when paying, I feel that's bad practice. I got a mani/pedi here before a wedding I was in and Jason (it's been a week so the name might be off) was amazing. I was the only one getting nails done so I was worried it would be awkward, but it wasn't. We had great conversations and my nails got tons of compliments! I badly needed my roots touched up so I went online and looked for something close to home and found Salon Dovini. Used their online booking and it was so easy. They called to confirm my appt the day before so I wouldn't forget. Cathy was my hairdresser and she was great. She listened to everything I said and took it into consideration. My hair turned out great and the prices were very reasonable! You get a mini back massage as you're telling your stylist what you want done and then when they're shampooing your hair you have the option of a hot towel on your face to relax you. They offered a beverage while I let the color sit too. Wonderful little salon in downtown West Allis. I'll definitely be back! read more

WORST HAIRCUT EVER! If I could give Monika/this Salon a zero I would. My husband & I had our stylist move and Monika got good reviews. She BUTCHERED his hair so much that everyone laughed at him. We've spent 3 days fixing his uneven sideburns & a curve on ONE side of his head from the electric razor she used (even though he said not to shave it and texture/razor cut it). He said she saw a full picture and completely ignored him until it was too late. Then finished and ran to the counter and left him to pick up his stuff. He is so embarrassed. I have had a really great experience on both of my visits to Salon Dovini (and now I'm officially hooked!). My fiancé and I had scheduled our engagement photo shoot for Black Friday and with all of the holiday excitement (and my constant work travel), I completely forgot to book my hair/makeup appointment. Salon Dovini is a few blocks from my apartment - and I stopped in there in a frantic frizzy haired mess and asked if there was ANY way I could get in for a last minute hair/makeup appointment. They were so very accommodating and calmed my panic immediately! Monika was my stylist and really took the time to listen to me. And in the end, my hair and makeup looked fantastic (and at what a great price too!). Monika helped me to look like a "prettier version of me." In fact at one point in time during our engagement shoot, our photographer stopped us to find out who did my makeup because of how great it looked (and yes, the pictures turned out awesome!). The salon itself is on the smaller side (only a handful of chairs), had a nice vibe, everyone was friendly (staff and customers), and the shampoo chairs are super comfortable (bonus points!). I have since visited one more time - for a regular hair cut. Monika really listened to me, my haircut was great, and I am a happy customer (with great hair!). I cannot stop looking in the mirror.My stylist was Monika and she was patient and really took her time to make sure I got the results I wanted. Called as an emergency today and explained my situation to EMMA - needed color correction as I put in this deep Burgundy and wanted to go back blonde - also wanted to cut my ponytail off and into a style I found in a magazine - she got me right in and was waiting for me when I arrived! EMMA spent over 4 hours on my hair and it looks absolutely FABULOUS! Cant wait to see her again in 3 weeks for a touch up!! I would recommend her to EVERYONE! She is FANTASTIC!! read more

I'm feeling a little bit conflicted about Salon Dovini. I think it has the capability of being a 5 star experience. The Salon is located on a quaint street and has been remodeled to look modern and sophisticated. The people working there are really friendly, accommodating, and I think most of them are very knowledgeable as far as "the art of hair" goes. Joe (the owner) was extremely helpful over the phone and in person when we discussed the desired look I was going for. I pretty much never color my hair... if I do, I'll just go buy Natural Instincts (box) which is a 'wash out' after 28 shampoo's. I had a very horrifying experience a few years ago at a different salon where I experimented with highlights. I remember leaving feeling like I looked like an older conservative woman (think, 'Barbara Bush') ... So, I've been very cautious about salons and coloring. There was an Entertainment deal that was $25 for $50 worth of hair coloring. It was for "all over color", so no highlights. Meaning, the same color all over your head. I thought I could change the color of my hair slightly, but when I called, I was told that I had to have the roots match up with the color that they were going to apply. My roots are dark brown and my hair gradually gets a bit lighter towards the ends. So, I asked if I could have the roots touched up with my natural color and then pick a color a few shades lighter to create a faded look. I didn't mind my hair color but wanted something a little more dramatic, just for fun. Apparently this wasn't possible, I still don't understand why exactly. I looked at the website before I made my appointment and Monica really stood out as the person I'd want to have working on my hair... I just get a vibe from the photos of the staff and I'm usually spot on about the one who'd be best for me based on their personal style. I was told that only one of their staff was going to be doing this promotion, Nikki. Joe told me when I got to the salon that it is because she is the newest member and needs to build her client base. Understandable, but I never get my hair cut by anyone other than a senior or master stylist. So, "The fear" started to brew. So, Joe and I discussed what my options were when I came in for my appointment. I brought in some pictures and liked this look called 'Ombre', which looks very natural, sort of naturally sun drenched. If I wanted that though, it was going to cost like $100 extra! So, we decided on another look that only costs $58 more. Nikki was a total sweetheart but really seemed unexperienced and unsure about what she was doing. She told me she was 20 years old which pretty much explains allot. We had to go get Joe a few times to see if what was happening to my hair was the right thing. I was a bit worried that the highlights were going to be too brassy (orange) because my hair turns a yucky orange color, not blonde, when bleach is applied. We discussed toner if this was the outcome. That would cost an additional charge ($15 I think). I was already way over my original budget, which was $25 (the cost of the coupon). Now add $58 (for the extra services), and a 15% tip. So, at this point, I'm close to spending $100, when I thought it was going to be $25. My thoughts were, please no toner, please. So, after Nikki dried my hair I was relieved that it didn't look horrible. I don't love it or hate it. It's still brassy and I'm considering putting a box of Natural Instincts with an Ash tone over it to neutralize the orange. Basically tone it out. I'm not looking in the mirror and about to cry, but I'm not going "look at you, you sexy thang!". Nikki tried sooo hard and I am really specific (borderline demanding) about what I want. I think I will just continue going to Master Stylists in the future, coupon or not... I'd rather pay a solid $125 or so. The $25 discount wasn't worth all the stress. I probably put too much stress on Nikki too because she was supposed to do a basic all over color and pushed her too far out of her comfort zone. read more

Monika had been doing my hair and when she suggested chunky all over highlights I was worried because I never had them before, but I decided to go for it. She gave me the option of leaving them blonde or thinking them but I decided leaving them the blonde they were and it turned out terrific and had alot of compliments plus they lasted approximately 6 months! About 4 or 5 years ago I was coerced into visiting Dovini by my sister for her wedding. Little did I know that what was only supposed to be just an 'up-do' lead to a wonderful, young stylist that answers to the name of Monika! At the time, having natural uber curly hair, I thought my options were limited and haircuts never excited me because of the lack of curly expertise I had run across my whole life. From Monika and Merita to Joe and Emma(and everyone else...you too Lucia!) I now have a completely different outlook on my curly hair and all the fun things I can do with it. I don't have to load mousse or gel in it all the time anymore and have loved all of the different cuts, styles and colors. The awesome personalities in this salon cannot be matched and I thoroughly enjoy every visit. Don't forget to bring the kids! My son, even through his masculine phases, has loved seeing Monika since he was 3(he is now 8). Monika has no problem communicating and playfully joking with my son and always has a smile ready for him. If you're not afraid to bend your outlook on how your hair 'should' look, you'll be in very good hands. If you love your current style, don't be afraid to trust your locks to the team...as you'll still be in very good hands! read more

Wonderful salon, Monica was amazing! She fit me in when my stylist called in sick. She listened to what I wanted, added her own opinion, and The end result was more than I could've expected! I've been going for several years now, and I can't recommend it enough. My stylist is Monika, who is so friendly and talented that I always have a wonderful time visiting her, and I always leave overjoyed with my hair! She's gentle, caring, and attentive, and I can't imagine having my hair done anywhere else or by anyone else! I've tried several wonderful products in stock there over the years, and been very happy with all of them. They are also an Aveda salon, which has been great. There are lovely little perks like a mini massage when you come in, a fantastic hot towel for your face during your shampoo, soda, water, and coffee on offer, up-to-date magazines, and other fun things like an exfoliating scrub for your hands. :-) I've also gotten a few facials at the attached spa, which are equally wonderful. This Salon is fabulous from the moment you walk in the door! I believe it's going on 3 years that I have been coming to this salon! My stylist has always been Monika! From the very 1st time I came there she has been my absolute favorite! She has always done a fantastic job at cutting my hair and not once has she ever been inpatient with me. I am that person who wants just a little more thinning to my hair when she thinks she's done! And I say this with much love respect and appreciation! She cuts my hair to my perfection! This last appointment I had with Monika I went with an extreme hair cut yep I had her cut it all off well not all but pretty flipping close! I brought in a picture of the style I wanted actually 2 pictures but she didn't care for the other and explained why, not that I couldn't pull it off but because she knows my personality and the other picture was all my sas and personality! Do not go here. I called for an appointment and was running 15 minutes behind life happens right? When I arrive the hair stylist reminds me that I'm late...just started off rude. Then there were no books for me to choose a hair cut style from. Then the stylists rushes through my hair and gives me a general layer cut. She then dries it. DONE. No styling what so ever. She didn't even have the courtesy to blow out my hair and style it so that I could see the type of layers she gave me. Instead she dried it and slapped it with a flat iron because that was the fastest way for this LAZY stylist.....I then look in the mirror furious because I specifically said I wanted volume not a flat look. She then tells me because I was 15 minutes late she doesn't have "time" to give me full service. Well then you should have rescheduled me. Then the manager comes over and reminds me I was late. Didn't even apologize or care that I was unhappy with my hair. Didn't even offer options to fix my hair. Just RUDE it's no wonder her staff is rude she is even WORSE! I then become super upset and because of their rudeness and HORRIBLE service I refused to pay. The manager then said "yeah everyone wants a free ride" I'm sorry you were going to charge me $27.00. Really do you think I can't afford $27.00 ? You should pay me for going through such a horrible experience. The manager has a terrible attitude and so does her staff. DO NOT GO HERE.
