The person who cut my hair didn't do a precise job ( I checked her work when I got home and saw parts of my hair weren't cut straight).

We moved to Tucson about 3 years ago and I used Yelp to find a hair salon for my wife, particularly one where reviewers mentioned how the stylists handle colors in the red and purple family. I found Salon Backstage on Yelp, and my wife's been coming here since then, almost 3 years, and it is just now dawning on me that, of all people, I never posted my OWN review. Just look at the business profile picture. That's Steve, the owner/proprietor, and he's terrific. It's not just his gregarious personality, but the way he runs his business and his own excellent skills as a stylist. He really does absolutely nail the red colors. And he's just a lot of fun to be around. It's a very enjoyable experience because the salon is comfortable, I can sit on the couch and use my tablet while my wife gets her hair done. And it's not just the color that he gets right so consistently well, but also the cut. I really like the short style my wife has and Steve does a great job all around - the top looks great, the back is nice and clean, sides are awesome, too. You can, of course, purchase hair related products at the salon, but also other items (jewelry, for example). And I like the cool art, the posters and photos on the call. But the important part is the hair cutting and coloring and as I said, Steve does a consistently great job on both. We drive about 45 minutes to come here. Once you find a stylist you like, you stick with them. It's totally worth the drive. The hair treatment is great, Steve is fun, and the salon is comfortable to hang out in. read more

Let me tell you a little about this Salon! I have been going to this Salon since it opened and Steve has been doing my hair ever since. I love this place! I love the fun decor, the people who work there and it's laid back vibe. Now, more importantly, about their services. Steve has always done a fabulous job with my hair!!! I have never had a bad cut or color, he always listens to what I am looking for. He's professional, kind and truthful. It took me a while to find the place I love to get my hair done at... and not I won't leave. Now, I have a quick story to portray their honesty and professionalism. I normally get my hair done a few different ways and I normally don't get too crazy. But I do enjoy seeing how different colors (within a small range) look. However, one time I wanted to go dark... very dark. When I told Steve this he was 100% honest and kindly said... I don't think you should go THAT dark, I don't think you will enjoy it. Therefore, I went a little less dark. Knowing me, and past clients, he warned me I still may not like how dark I was going. Long story short, I went the "less" dark route (even though he still warned me against how dark it was)... and I enjoyed it for a few weeks, but would never go that dark again. Needless to say, I appreciated his honesty and willingness to tell me his true thoughts. I would highly recommend Steve and the other hair stylists at this salon. I would also recommend Monique at this Salon... she has also done my hair a couple times while Steve was out and she rocked it. She has also done my husband's hair and trimmed his beard. Monique always does good work. Also, if you are looking for Fantasy Hair... I would recommend Christopher . Has he ever done my hair? No. But I seen his work first hand, I have been at the salon many times when he finishes up a fantasy hair color / style and it has always been breathtaking. Hope you like my 2 cents on this Salon. My hair stylist finally retired, last summer's pixie was growing out, I desperately needed a fresh style. Friends said, " You can't go wrong at Salon Backstage, all the stylists are excellent!" That said, I am, er, a very low maintenance grandma. I called Salon Backstage and spoke with Monique who booked me within a few days. She took time to discover I am not going to spend alot of time on my hair every day, and designed an easy care style. I have had many compliments and I can let it air dry or style it. I saw Steve, asked him to lift the crown a bit of my medium length curly hair so that I had a bit more height. It was the back of my hair,at the crown so I didn't really see what he did. After going home and showering, I saw he chopped my hair to about 3 inches! Is this man a cosmetologist or just a barber? read more

Just in time for the holidays - A swing and a miss. I wanted and asked for cool ash tone color. I emphasized no warmth, no gold, no red but that is what I got. They had me come back in for a fix - better but it is still warm with red and gold tones. I wish I could turn back time. :~( read more
