When I first started coming she let me know she was an intern and I was excited when she let me know she would be on the "floor" so I could now book her whenever. I have been trying to find a place to write a review after my haircut with Denise at 3207 E. Speedway Blvd. When I first checked out Gadabout the price of haircuts gave me sticker shock. However, after Denise cut my hair I can honestly say it was worth every penny! Hands down it was the best haircut of my life and that's saying something because I've lived a long time! My appointment with Denise was on June 19th. My hair has never looked so good. I can even wear it straight out of the pool or shower and it's such a great cut that it still looks ok! When I curl it, it does exactly what I want it to! Denise is a rare talent in the hair industry! She's an artist! I have very fine, thin hair and she made it look good just with the quality of the cut. I can't thank her enough and will be scheduling a trim soon. Want to love them but can't. Had my hair cut there six times in the past few years. Two cuts were good (not excellent) and four were really bad. Two different stylists. They will listen the first appointment then on following appointments they do what THEY want. The prices are VERY high and the Calligraphy Cut is not worth the money. It basically ruined my style for four weeks until I could grow it out. I get much better cuts at Super cuts for 1/5 the price. Gadabout thinks they are cool and stylish - instead they are wannabe stylists who don't really listen and don't know how to work with the hair the customer has. Sad and Mad. The place was nice, and the people at the front desk were super nice and welcoming. It was packed with people getting their hair done. Most everyone seemed happy to be there. However, my service was not fantastic. I called a few days before, which might have been why... since I didn't book far in advance. I made an appointment to get my hair done for a wedding. The groom was a former hairstylist so I knew I needed to get it done professionally and not try to wing it in a hotel bathroom. I relayed this to the person on the phone, and she placed me with a person who has no experience with up-dos. I understand that in order to get experience, you have to practice.... but that did not mean I needed to pay a good amount of money to have my hair done... for practice. The entire appointment she was asking the women around her for help and advice. She wasn't apologetic about it either. I tried to make small talk but it seemed like she wasn't paying attention. She asked me three times if I lived in Tucson. I do not. I even talked about how I live in Colorado a few times and she still asked me if I lived there afterwards. My hair looked nothing like the photo I showed. I picked a style that matched my hair length and texture. So it wasn't like I was asking for something that didn't make sense. When I left my hair was frizzy, only half the hair on the bottom layer was curled, and there were big bumps from the styling popping out. There were also big gaps of hair between the strands that laid on my forehead in an unflattering way. I was too embarrassed and frankly a little worried to tell her it was nothing like I wanted. I was afraid of what she would try to do to fix it. If anything (she didn't seem like she wanted to be there to begin with.) So I just paid and left. Luckily I had bobby pins in my overnight bag. I took a few of hers out and pushed down some of the bumps and replaced them in ways that looked sleeker and more put together. I also sprayed some frizz calming spray to reduce the frizz a bit. My hair was ok. It wasn't amazing. I usually get my hair done at local salons for weddings, so I know that it can be amazing! I think I was just paired with the wrong person. Luckily the groom didnt mention how awful it was. Also --- it took three days to brush out all the knots from the teasing... crazy. read more

Overall I really appreciate this business. All of the services I have had have been very professional and I was happy with them. They sell a lot of Specialty Products as well. The only thing that I don't like is the tipping. You only have the option to bring your own change in cash or use zelle or venmo. They cannot break large bills. They cannot let you put the tip on the credit card. While venmo and Zelle are convenient, I do know several people who have had their accounts hacked. Therefore I would appreciate it if Gadabout would be a little bit more flexible in this area, especially if they want their employees to receive all the payments they deserve. read more

I am not sure what is going on with the salon, it is used to be good and on top things. The Scheduler did not book the right appointment. I have to call the day before to confirm MY appointment. I complained re the appointment with the front desk. I was told she was new. She needed to be trained for an additional 6 mos. Very disappointed because Elaine is good, but if you don't hire someone who is well trained to schedule appointments, the salon owner and hair stylist will lose money. read more

Ok, this is specifically for the AMAZING Mandy!!! I am not from Tucson. I am from San Diego and I moved to a small town in AZ 5 hours away from Tucson. I am 52, have grey coming in making my dirty blond hair turn a gross Ashy grey yuck. I went to a girl where I live and basically she just ran some bleach through it and nothing underneath, basically made me look like I was 80 yrs old trying to dye my hair to look like a blonde 80's bimbo. Ok....flash forward to visiting my son at U of AZ this week. I decided to randomly use the appointment scheduler on their website and said I needed a full head of color. The only person with a last minute opening was Mandy. I was scared, bc I hadn't seen her work or what she specialized in, but I knew being Gadabout, that she would be well trained at least, and that it's a busy popular upscale salon so she couldn't make it worse. I show up, and she is just full of light. So friendly. She took the time to look at all the pics I showed her and was able to explain what it would entail to get each color scheme, and the knowledge to tell me that certain looks would be more obvious in the root area then if I did a blended type color for another look. I trusted her, and she did the most AMAZING JOB. I am blown away. I am so happy to come see her next time I need a dye job and I can fit a dinner in with my son at school too, so win/win. I've always left salons wanting to cry (due to a cut to short or a highlight job that left me with damaged hair) but not after a visit with Romina, she gave me a gorgeous cut adding layers into my hair as I grow it out and also did the most beautiful balayage on me. I am impressed by the pampering that happens here. The Speedway location is my favorite--more "elegant" if you will, than the other locations in town. I have utilized a few services here over the years--hair cut and style, hair coloring and even massages. When you come in for a massage, you are in their "spa" area. Its very nice that once behind that spa door--miraculously, you don't hear any of the hustle and bustle of the floor where all the hair cuts are happening. They have soft music to help relax in the spa waiting area. You are taken into a changing room where they provide you with lockers to put your clothes and purse after you change into a robe and sandals. They offer you flavored cold water. They have a steam room for you to utilize before or after going into your massage. The hair services--let me start by saying their shampoo job that they do is really something that makes you take pause. It is guaranteed to give you goosebumps! YUP! Its THAT good! They have tv's with under the ocean views of fish which is super calming. The chairs meet the sink perfectly--so none of the awkward and uncomfortable neck pains when lying back. Then...it comes...the most amazing head massage EVER! I swear, if I could go in just for the head massage daily--I sure would! The staff is super attentive, they listen and give feed back. The front desk people are wonderful and quick to help if you were not happy with your service. There is one lady in-particular that is a stylist--I have had her twice. She alone is the only reason for my three stars as opposed to a solid five. She doesn't do nice head massages, she is kind of rough. Its super odd to me that she is the only one, my whole life, that has ever made me stand up to cut my hair. I'm sorry--if I am paying this much for a hair cut--you best believe I won't be thrilled if you make me stand!! She has argued with me in the past on how short I wanted my hair--flat out refused to cut it that short. The second time I went to her--I showed her the picture of what I wanted--and it didn't happen. The girl at the front desk noticed the look on my face when I was checking out--and pulled me aside to see what was going on. She quickly apologized, noted my account to never have me see that lady again--and booked me another appointment to get my hair done correctly at no charge. Not impressed. Maybe I didn't get a good girl but I chose a "Master Stylist" for a reason, so I thought! It was very fast/rushed, and I don't think she understood what I wanted which might be my fault as I didn't bring a picture. But she did mention she would add face-framing layers because I said I want it short in the front! Then when she's all done blow drying I fully expected her to keep cutting because my layers all around were the same length... (in fact, a little longer in the front) And usually this is when they ask "everything look okay?". But no, she sent me on my way and I was pretty dumbfounded. So I spent 80 bucks (w tip) for that? So I went in again when it was time and gave them a second chance and got a terrible haircut. No face framing, uneven, long sections, terrible layering. Rushed cut, was out in less than 30 minutes and that's including the wash also. Maybe spent 15 minutes in the chair. Spent a lot of money. The thing I like about Gadabout is that in a pinch, they generally can squeeze you in anywhere. They have lots of locations. The reason I stopped going to Gadabout a long time ago is because anytime I got any service the person doing it would push and push and PUSH products on me. I got fed up and quit going. However, I was in a desperate pinch for time and needed my hair fixed ASAP. I arrived a few minutes late and was told to wait on the couches. While sitting there I observed the salon floor. One hair stylist was fixing her hair and I desperately hoped that wasn't my stylist. I hate to be kept waiting needlessly. After about 5 minutes of waiting, and nearly 8 minutes since my appointment was to start the stylist I was watching got up, walked to the back for something. Two more minutes goes by and she returns and calls out my name. Ugh. I went to her station and she instantly started in on the sales pitch. Ok, first round I get. Thanks. We go to the back and she washes my hair and brings up the products again. Ok I got it... thanks. We then go back to her station and she isn't really talkative, and brings up the products a few more times. She does a quick cut and it's good but of course as we're heading up to the front she points out the products to me. I'm mean... can we say overkill? This is what drove me crazy the other times I've gone to any Gadabout. What bonuses or incentives do they get? I'd love to say I'd never be back but time makes fools of us all. read more

Christie did both my nails and toes and was friendly, offered a great conversation and personalized service. I think their prices are fantastic - $30 for both Manicure and Pedicure is hard to find now a day. The salon roomy and clean, it is on a semi-busy street, the decor is stylish. I saw two different hairstylists here and wasn't happy at all. The first time I went for a foil and it was okay but then she gave me a product that wasn't for my hair type and dried my hair out. Then I went in again to try something new going darker and she turned my hair red. I went back to get it fixed and it was still red and awful. Then I just went to the location off of river and I got a foil done, color correction, and haircut. She did my foils too far a part which made my hair streaky. The color correction is fine and the hair cut is good. I need to find a better place that doesn't charge $300 for me to be unhappy. read more
