I absolutely love Salon 241! I came when Hannah Y. was hired several years ago, as I've been a loyal client since 2021. At first, I wasn't excited about a new salon, but my first time there, it was so welcoming and warm. They use top-of-the-line, healthy products. They invest in the education of their staff. I don't li very here (yet), but was in desperate need of color and a cut. My schedule is spotty while I'm here, so I looked at several m salons online, then decided on Salon 241 Bangor on State Street. I sent a contact message checking to see what was available, hoping to find someone good who could help me. Got a message back from Jonathan, asking what I was looking for. I explained my situation to him and he actually stayed after his day was done to fit me in. I wanted to see who he was and his experience, but he wasn't listed on the salon's website, so I googled him and found a review. It was an excellent review and I was so excited it would be someone who has great experience. I get to the salon and Jonathan was finishing up with the young lady before me. He did an amazing job on her hair and I knew I was in the right spot. All I can say is Jonathan knows hair, everything about hair. He did an amazing job coloring and cutting my hair with such precision. I immediately felt very comfortable with Jonathan. He's a great guy, with a heart of gold. He's also got a lot of great stories. I can't wait to move here and see him again. He is extremely talented, and he's a delight to be around! He's that stylist everyone looks for. It's a Latin curly girl story as old as time. You move to a place like Western MA and think; who is gonna cut this hair?? Who can I trust? I am so lucky to have found Sicca at 241. The salon is cozy, adorable, and friendly with snacks and coffee and tea! Sicca gave me a great dry curly cut (which is hard to find) and was receptive and kind when I asked for an adjustment to the length a few days later. She studied my reference pics closely and as she adjusted the length, I watched those pictures come to life before my eyes! Great salon. I've come here for a cut a few times- once pre-pandemic, twice post-pandemic. I've gone to a different hairstylist every time and they're lovely. One of my favorite parts (besides the tea bar, the great products they use in hair, and the amazing skills) is that you can book online and see stylist prices right there. As someone who is on a fixed, financial-aid-student budget, it's really nice to be able to choose a stylist that fits my budget. All the stylists have been lovely so far and I've experienced different ranges of cost, so no matter who you choose, you're going to walk out feeling great. As you walk into Salon 241 the first thing you notice are the cheerful sounds of happy conversation . The atmosphere is warm and friendly and it is clear that the people who work there enjoy one another and care about their clients. Of course, the professionalism of the haircutters is also obvious. The owners have selected highly trained and experienced stylists. I have been having my hair cut and colored at this Salon for several years and have been very, very satisfied. There are so many other options for hair cutting in Northampton and the fact that so many of the clients have had such a long relationship with their stylist says much about the quality of the service at this gem of a place in our town. read more

I haven't had my appointment yet but when I booked my haircut I wrote in the notes that I have long hair and want to go fairly short. Around a half hour later I got a call from the salon that the stylist I booked with doesn't typically do short haircuts and offered an appointment on the same day I originally booked with a stylist who does! This salon participates in Strands for Trans and is very explicit about being a safe space for all people. There are also multiple gender options when creating an online account for booking. With a customer service experience this good in the booking process, I'm now even more stoked for my appointment! read more

The worst salon I have ever heard of. A couple of months ago, one of my friends went there, and she had an appointment. She can't speak English fluently, so they mistreated her and her husband, and declined to serve them. They shared their experience with us, but my sister did not believe them. She went today and had an appointment with Katie. She wanted dark golden hair, but they changed her hair color to light golden. Then my sister asked them to fix it, and they tried to fix it with toner or whatever, although they could not satisfy her. But in the end, they asked for extra money. When she said she was not going to pay the extra amount because it was their fault, they called the cops, and Katie was hiding. I was going to go there to ask them in person, but my sister did not want to go back there. So please do not interact with those unknowledgeable people who mistreat others. I was going to give them -1000 star but there is no option for that. read more

I did not love having an appointment canceled last-minute that was on the book for months. The reason I liked this place was because I appreciated the thoughtful intake process, which did go well the prior two visits. Ahhh, the nature of impermanence. The salon is really amazing! I understand why they are so highly reviewed, they deserve it! When you walk in you can feel the vibe and it's really nice! I love getting my hair dyed here as the colors are always impeccable and my hair doesn't feel absolutely demolished after bleach. However, the haircuts are a bit pricy, and they add an extra $15 or however much for having thick hair which is not within anyone's control. I understand charging more for product and such, but for haircuts, its a bit harder to understand. Not to say it's racially motivated, but it does affect certain ethnic groups more than others. read more

As a nearby college student, I was looking for a regular salon to transition to from my home town. I feel so lucky to have found this place! My hairdresser described the salon as "upscale quirky," which perfectly fits the energy of the salon and the town of Northampton. $50 for a hair cut but it was totally worth it. Prices vary ever-so-slightly depending on the stylist. The experience was wonderful. It was a little hard to find at first. You enter on Main Street a bit before the Masonic Street intersection, and you have to go up the stairs to get to the salon. I got TWO washes with my cut. One at the beginning and one at the end to get all of the cut hairs out. Saved me the trouble of having to shower after a hair cut. Good conversation and great experience. I will be back! read more

I got a haircut at Salon 241 on December 23, 2021. I sent the email about my concern on January 13, 2022. Because I did not get a response, I called Salon 241 on January 14. The administrator told me that my email was not read and offered to solve this problem now with the hairdresser who cut my hair. The hairdresser sent the information through the administrator that it was too late to correct my haircut. The administrator told me that I could make a new appointment. I refused the offer. My concern is the longest part of my hair still has split ends and knots. The hairdresser neglected a section of my hair and won't take responsibility for that. I think if my hair became worse in three weeks it would happen along the entire length of the hair. But the other part of my hair that was actually cut doesn't have some split ends and looks nice. To sum up, I'm not satisfied with Salon 241 service and I won't recommend this salon to anybody. read more

I haven't gotten my hair professionally cut in about a year and was in need of a trim. I booked an appointment for a short cut (I've been growing out a buzz cut for about 4 months) with Melissa. I described the cut I wanted, short on the sides and back, something I could style easily with minimal effort, and that I can let grow for 3 months and still have it look good. She asked if I had any inspiration pics, which I didn't have unfortunately but greatly appreciated her asking. While shaving the sides she checked in regularly about the length. I'm not sure what else to say but it was a great experience and I will probably be back in 3 months for another trim. read more

I had the most amazing experience with Kay! I came in kind of nervous, having little experience getting my hair done professionally, and wanting to do an overhaul of my damaged hair. I had significant breakage and wear from previous lightening, box dye, and DIY trims, but I did not feel even a tiny bit of judgement from Kay. Right away, the atmosphere of the salon and from my stylist felt safe and welcoming. Kay was communicative every step of the way and we were able to thoroughly discuss what would work for me (not only what would look good, but what I would find easy to maintain). Kay is clearly extremely skilled and experienced and was able to offer a lot of insight into why I was struggling to figure out what colors work for my hair. The cut was exactly what I wanted and I trusted her advice with color and could not be more happy with the result. I went from a grown-out warm blondish red-y mess to a beautiful ashy neutral brown that perfectly blends with my natural color. First time and last time I went to Salon 241, I got a very unsatisfactory result. I was getting my senior pictures done so my mom made a hair and makeup appointment. My hair was very simple, loose curls, and the stylist did fine but there were pieces I had to personally go back to and curl because they were so straight and my makeup was done with little skill or care. No blending, terrible eyeshadow, the artist did not even know how to use an eyelash curler and was going towards my eye THE WRONG WAY. By no means was this person a makeup artist, and I did NOT know that. Very disappointed and wasted $118. When I visited earlier while I was waiting for my boyfriend's hair to be cut, he had the same stylist and was not completely satisfied with his cut either. I've been to Salon 241 a few times, with mixed results. My first few times here were great. Kathryn gave me a great pixie cut, and took a lot of time to look at the pictures I had brought in to make sure she had a really clear idea of what I wanted. She stayed late to finish my cut, which is above and beyond what I expect of a stylist, but in hindsight, also shows that appointment slots should probably be longer. My second time, Christopher did a fantastic job updating my grown-out cut into an asymmetrical pixie that was exactly what I wanted, and grew out great. As long as I kept the back trimmed, it looked good growing out for about three months. For a pixie cut, that is freaking incredible. I did get the sense that Christopher was a bit rushed, though. My two most recent cuts here, however, left me in tears. In the rush, the stylists didn't spend very much time talking to me about what I was going for, and I've left with two different rather frumpy bobs. My first one, an attempt to give some shape to my grown out pixie, left me looking like a soccer mom. After calming down, I changed the part around a bit and curled it, leaving me with a look I was happy with, but that was way more work than I wanted. After about two months of growing that out, I on a whim gave myself bangs. I liked the look, but wanted them cleaned up and my now asymmetrical bob evened out. They gave a brief look at my inspiration pictures, and I think just saw "okay, we are doing a bob with bangs" without paying much attention to the specific type cut (one without layers) that I had brought in. I mentioned to the stylist that I wanted to avoid my hair looking round, yet I ended up with a cut that makes me look less like Velma Kelly and more like Coconut Head. It is also crooked, but in the opposite direction from how it was before. There is one really sharp layer, with another weirdly hanging under it. Credit where credit is due, the stylist did a lovely job on my bangs. The good experiences I had in the beginning at Salon 241 motivated me to come back after the first bad hair cut, but I honestly think that the short appointment slots force stylists to rush. Instead of leaving with haircuts I love, I leave thinking "okay, I can figure out a way to make this work." read more

Sometimes it's just great to cry. This is a story about a journey and a transformation that Katie Clifford and the staff of Salon 241 played a very important and significant part in helping to fulfill. My wife is a breast cancer survivor. After having a full mastectomy followed by a number of reconstructive surgical procedures, she needed to feel invigorated, re-energized and youthful again by embracing a new, fresh and slightly funky, yet mature look. For those of you who have been through something similar, or know someone who has; I'm certain you can appreciate how critical it is to have a metamorphosis like this exceed any expectation one may have had going into it. We began to look for the perfect salon with the ideal atmosphere, matchless energy and superbly talented staff to support a very meaningful and emotional rebirth. My wife and I spent countless hours reading online reviews of local establishments as well as looking at many websites. Both of us asked several people that we greatly respect for suggestions. There was a recurring theme about the talent of a particular stylist, but never did we hear about their ability to translate a persons feelings and emotions into something real, tangible, meaningful and beautiful. After all we read and absorbed, there was only one salon and one person that we knew would be the best fit for my wife. The sincerity and caring attitude showed by Katie and Sue was nothing short of amazing. Katie not only took the time to listen very carefully to what my wife wanted and how she was feeling, but she was able to understand where my wife wanted go with her new look to create exactly the style she was imagining. Katie gave her a new, vibrant warm color, foils and a dramatic new cut that more than perfectly matches and enhances my mates personality. My wife was treated as if she were a part of the design team ensuring that every step of the way she was comfortable and satisfied. I love love love this salon! I started going here when it first opened, and am now a frequent flier. The staff is phenomenal; from the receptionists through the owners, there seriously is not a weak link in the whole place. Everyone just oozes competence. I would be happy for anyone there to do my hair. I agree with one of the (filtered?) reviewers that Jessi's blow-outs are fantastic! As for atmosphere, they've somehow managed to create the perfect balance....it feels trendy, hip, comfortable and relaxed all at the same time, without being the least bit pretentious. It's a fun and friendly vibe where everyone is made to feel welcome and like part of the salon family. This place is awesome!! I have difficult hair cause its curly and thin and well... sucky.. And rarely do I trust people to do it, and do it well, but Andrea (who is one of the owners) is fantastic. First when you come to the salon they make you feel like you've just entered your friend's house, and although at times there might be a bit of a wait you don't even mind because it's a very relaxing environment to be in. And the results from the cuts are amazing! I haven't found a salon that I've been a regular at for a very long time, and after living in NYC for 3 years you'd think I'd have seen good talent. They fit me in on short notice, my stylist was personable, kind, and extremely talented, and it was super reasonably priced. Very happy that this place is in Northampton. Never again! Worst color experience ever here yesterday (April 15, 2022). What I got and what I asked for could not be further apart. I have both white streaks and orange in my hair after a failed balayage and grays showing through after a failed "root smudge," whatever that is. I left in shock, spent almost $300 here, take a full vacation day because there weren't weekend appointments available for months and could not have been more unsatisfied.
