Knocked off one star because my bangs seemed a little uneven, but that also might've been because I usually cut them myself so they just looked different! I've gotten a haircut here 3 times! As a UMass student, it's very close to campus and they offer a student discount. However, I don't think I could recommend getting a hair dye makeover as I did so myself, and got charged ($400) way more than Salon 241($240) does. My hair was also extremely dry which is understandable since it just got bleached but they didn't bother with applying any products to make it seem otherwise. read more

The confirmation was clear and allowed for easy integration into my online calendar. The parking is very convenient and the salon is beautiful. It is clean and bright. I had a haircut with the owner Kirsten and she was fantastic. She was punctual, had great interpersonal skills and did a fantastic job cutting my hair. Edited at bottom!!! I hate to write not great reviews but I need to on this one. I brought in an image of what I wanted my hair to look like and it is not really what I got. The stylist genuinely didn't really listen to what I wanted. After more inspection I realized that a lot of the cut is uneven and I just am overall unhappy with my experience here. The hair cut took less than 30 minutes and I am overall not very satisfied. Edit: The salon reached out to me and was so helpful and caring. They really care about your satisfaction and I'm SO pleased! McKenzie is a goddess! My new cut is incredible and I couldn't be happier. read more

I just moved to Amherst from Boston, where I've been going to different stylists over the past few years, and my experience with Tia was more positive than all of my past appointments in the city! I've been dying my hair blue, and the color is difficult to get right, but Tia got exactly the shade I wanted. First of all, any place that lets me make an appointment without requiring I speak to a human on the phone is okay by me. I love the option to text for an appointment and I love that they were able to get me a same day appointment. The salon itself is sooo cute, a sweet little house with great big windows to look out while you're in the chair. Brand new salon, destined to be the best around. Ultra-talented McKenzie and her dedicated and professional crew have restored and updated a historical and convenient space, close to parking and the rest of downtown. The level of professionalism and attention to detail is far beyond what you would usually get in Boston or NYC, not to mention sleepy amherst, even for guys. Nobody else has been able to figure out how to cut my hair so it looks good, but McKenzie did. I suggest you book there before they get discovered and you have to wait weeks to get in! read more

I followed Razi to this new salon and was thrilled with the result! My roots were touched up with a perfect blending color, then properly blow dried and styled without me being charged a ridiculous add-on price. For someone with very long, thick hair this is a major point for me, especially in the winter months. At Red Door, it's all part of the service. The second floor salon has a wonderful view out over Amherst Common and is a private and comfortable space to chill out. They offer tea and coffee, which is another touch I appreciate, and have a list of other beauty treatments that I shall try out later. I went in for an ombré balayage, my picture was dark on top, going to red and then to blonde. I also wanted a cut- mostly clean up and bang trim. I have naturally light brown hair and it was just above my collar- pretty short. It took 3 hours and the top of my hair did not get dyed dark brown. The red was barely there. She cut the back of my hair a tiny bit, but otherwise I didn't really get a cut at all. It was $160. I texted back the next day to ask why I hadn't received a cut and she said she had cut the back, but there wasn't much she could do as it was already pretty layered. I have never had a hair dresser tell me they couldn't do much with my hair... that's your job to cut it. She asked if I wanted to come back for a bang trim (I live 30 mins away) but I had already trimmed my bangs at home that morning. It has been 3 months now- the red has pretty much washed off and now it just looks like I had a bad bleach job as the blonde was not really blended in- especially at the back. I was pretty disappointed initially that it wasn't really what I wanted (and didn't get a cut/clean-up) but now I'm mega disappointed. What a waste of money. I wanted it to be good- the stylist's Instagram shows amazing balayage pictures- I just don't know what happened with mine. I also didn't appreciate her attitude when I asked what happened to my haircut. read more
