I've been seeing Katrina at Sei Bella for my haircuts since 2008. Even when I moved away I would make the 90 minute drive for my biannual haircut. She always listens to what I want and gives feedback on what is realistic for my hair type and the amount of time/energy I want to put into maintaining a new cut. She also provides suggestions of the kind of product I should use without being pushy about buying salon products. Recently, Katrina also did hair for me and my bridal party for my November 2021 wedding. It goes without saying that she did a great job (I wouldn't still be a customer after 10+ years if she didn't!). Brides, this review is for you! My experience here was good, but also very bad. You should hear this before booking. 8 women had their hair done here for my wedding (moms, bridesmaids, bride). I booked well in advance (6-7 months -- out of a 7 month engagement). While our hair turned out well (I was happy with mine! And no trial run either!), and the stylists were good. But the management is truly awful. When I booked, I booked specific times. And Sei Bella requested that I send a file with a schedule and a photo for each woman's desired hairstyle, which I sent them on time. However, two days before the wedding a girl called and said that they had just discovered that they were double-booked for mine plus another wedding, and I'd have to redo my whole hair schedule--with everyone coming in to the salon much earlier than we had planned on. After I talked with the manager (phone call number 2), I knew I had pretty much no choice but to agree, because what was I going to do two days before the wedding? No hope of 8 women going elsewhere. So we agreed to get our hair done at 10 am for a 5:30 pm summer wedding. (Not ideal, but better than nothing). And I had to re-schedule hair appointments for 8 on the eve of my wedding--also not ideal. But I wanted to make it work. But that's not all. When we talked on the phone, the manager had said I could either get my hair done with my girls at 10, or could come in on my own as late as 12 (alone on my wedding day, but then with fresher hair for the wedding). I wasn't sure which I preferred on the spot, but the manager was helpful, apologetic, and said she said she'd block off both times for me and I could call back with my choice. And she said they'd book me with Amber, who was the best at updos. But when I did call back to ask for a time, they'd blocked off NEITHER of those times, and the receptionist had no idea what I was talking about. After sort-of tense negotiations, I got a spot at 10 with Amber. But still more! When I showed up on the morning of my wedding, they again seemed to have no idea what my situation was. I was not booked with Amber (who was seeing someone else at the time). I ended up waiting about 45 minutes to see Amber, who did a great job, especially considering I didn't do a trial run. She was overbooked (more managerial problems) but she kept her next appointment waiting a while to do a good job for me. So glad for that. She did not rush). Also, my girls reported back to me that their stylists were like "so how would you like your hair today?" And they were like, "what about that picture we sent you?" Apparently, the management didn't pass along the style photos we'd chosen. Pretty annoying. tldnr: Management is about as unprofessional as possible. Many scheduling SNAFUs. Advise against this salon for high-stakes events, such as your wedding. Stylists, however, were good. read more

Definitely the best salon in town. My boyfriend got a truly DISASTROUS and SHORT haircut in San Francisco. I brought him here as soon as I could. There wasn't much length left to work with, but they still recognized an emergency and fitted him in even though they had other appointments. The hairdresser (I wanted to get her name but she had to go straight to her next client :'( ) was so nice about the whole thing and even let us go without paying. She had to cut in a hurry (she had about five minutes) but his hair still looks so much better than before. He's going to go back to permanently fix the mistake as soon as his hair grows out long enough. read more

The salon itself is always neat as a pin, and the ambiance is very relaxing. I've gotten my hair highlighted and cut several times by Allison, and she always does a wonderful job. She listens to exactly what I want, and delivers the precise color and cut that I ask for. I got a haircut from Carrie. I like to give suggestions about what I like along the way which sometimes may annoy some hairdressers. However, Carrie was super nice and happily in corporated what I wanted. This was my first time there and I will go there again. I have been to Tigerlilly and Salon 241 in Northampton before, both of them were too pricey for the service I got in my opinion. I live in Brooklyn, NY and am getting married in Amherst, MA. For our engagement shoot, my fiancee and I chose to do our photoshoot in Old Deerfield. I had made an appointment with a different salon several weeks before to get my hair and makeup done for the shoot. During this time, I was also trying to find a place to do my wedding hair (a private stylist that I was going to go with fell through). Sei Bella was recommended to me by my wedding make-up artist a week before my engagement shoot took place. Everyone at Sei Bella was so nice over the phone, and the reviews were so wonderful, that I decided to book my wedding hair with them right then and there. At the time, I did not switch my engagement hair appointment since I thought it was too last minute. So, when the salon I was originally going to for my engagement hair and make-up cancelled the day of on me, I immediately turned to Sei Bella. Despite it being Amherst College's move in weekend, they fit me in and did a wonderful job on my hair and makeup. Without them I would have been stuck a long way from home with unwashed/unstyled hair, and probably would have had to cancel my engagement shoot. They have now saved me and my unruly hair twice. The place could be great but it depends on the person. Weeks ago I scheduled an appointment for haircut and style my hair. When I received the confirmation, I emailed them I menintioned that I will need color as well. When I arrived to the appointment the girl refused to do the color. Yesterday, I had an appointment, when I scheduled by the web, I explicitly mentioned that I would like to do my hair, but not irons. The hair cut was just ok, the style was terrible, I left with the hair wet, I when arrived home I had to do for myself. Today my skin head is super itchy, and when I scratches, I get the color between my nails. Horrible. If you go there, make the appointment with Alison or Amber. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE I went there today for the first time and i will definitely be going back. Amber was amazing. I showed up early for my appointment and asked if I could get my eyebrows done. She had just finished with someone before me, and took me back almost right away. She did a really good job with my eyebrows (which seems to be a difficult thing for other people). When it came time to get my hair cut she asked what I wanted and offered suggestions. She told me exactly what she was going to do (even though i had no idea what 1/2 of it meant) and my hair came out amazing. Im not one to ever do anything with my hair except throw it into a ponytail but im so happy with what she did. Best Salon hands down! And moreover.... Carrie is a hair goddess! I love Carrie and all the girls at Sei Bella Salon! I have been getting my hair cut and colored by Carrie for 12 years. I met her when I was a Freshman in college, made a hair appointment at another salon she was working for at the time, and was randomly placed in her chair. The Hair Gods were definitely with me that day. She talked me out of doing something horrific to my hair, (eek a perm!) and introduced me to color. I have never had a bad color or cut in these 12 years. I travel from Southern Connecticut to come see Carrie about 5xs a year and would travel further if I had to! I work in Luxury Fashion in New York City and have been to my fair share of runway shows and worked on photo shoots, where many stylists have asked me "who does your color" when I tell them "My fab Hair Stylist in AMHERST, MA" they just stare at me. Many times, I go to my appointment with no idea of what I want to do with my hair, but I never leave disappointed. Carrie knows what I will and will not like and always knows what will look good on me. I have tried other stylists (2 to be exact) the first I had no choice, I was living abroad and the second, I was young and silly and paid a ridiculous amount of money for something I did not like. Carrie also cuts and colors my mothers hair and she too will not entrust anyone else to touch her hair! Coming to Sei Bella Salon for me is more like coming to visit for an afternoon with a bunch of amazing women! I hate this place. The first time I went here they cut my hair way too short and ruined the perfect curls I spent years growing out and my hair was a poofy mess for months. The second time I was here, my boyfriend was getting a hair cut and he asked for a little bit longer on the top and he came out with the top of his hair 5 times longer than the rest of his hair and he looked ridiculous, we went home and I had to finish the job. The third time I made an appointment for a color and they called me the day before saying that my stylist wasn't going to be around that weekend and that my appointment was canceled, I wasn't scheduled with another stylist or anything. I chose this salon based on the reviews from this site. I WILL NEVER GO BACK HERE AGAIN. Amber did an awful job cutting my hair and seemed more interested in looking at herself in the mirror and out the window than actually cutting my hair. I went in to have a couple of inches cut off and wanted a simple bob haircut that fell to my shoulders when dry. Not only did she cut my hair shorter than I wanted but she didn't even cut it evenly. Typically, hairdressers section my hair and start cutting the under layers first and work their way to the outer most layer of my hair. Amber left all of my hair down and just cut straight across. Needless to say, my hair is uneven and I am still finding stray sections of hair that are longer than the rest of my hair. I am very disappointed and regret spending almost $40 to have someone give me a bad haircut. read more
