I moved to Western Mass during the pandemic. For at least a year after moving here I was quarantining, so my hair grew very long. When finally we started venturing out a bit, I started looking for a stylist. I will spare the details here, but will say without hesitation or restriction, Shalane is "the one." She is meticulous, paying attention to every detail of my hair, but also listening to what I am looking for in terms of my style. She spends alot of time with me, and goes down every style adventure with me willingly. And she is a good person. Polite, patient, caring, endearing. In terms of the salon, I am always impressed with how clean it is. I wish my house was that clean. No dust anywhere! Like how does that happen? I got a partial balayage done (by Lynne I believe) two weeks ago. When I left the salon, I was like this isn't too bad until I looked in the mirror later that day with my glasses on. When I got there, I showed her some pictures of what I wanted, she asked a few questions and almost rushed to get products ready for bleaching. When I realized she wasn't going to ask about my hair history, I volunteered those information. This should have been a major red flag but at the time I didn't think too much of it. I've attached some pictures of my hair and these are taken two weeks after the appointment. During the meantime, I've tried to used purple shampoo to tone down the brassiness but it doesn't seem to help. And it's not just the brassiness, I'm also unhappy with how un-natural it is. The transition between my natural hair and the lightened hair is harsh in some areas. It becomes more pronounced when I part my hair even slightly different from the day I came in for that appointment. read more

Just moved to western MA from LA. Walked in here because I couldn't get another root appointment before thanksgiving, totally blind. My hair is strawberry, golden, redish blonde and not easy to do well, but it looks amazing. They carry my favorite lines, especia for conditioning as I have long, thick, curly hair that can get very dry - Davines and Olaplex. Will definitely be back! Glamourama is in my opinion the best hair salon in New England. One time I went in there I was having my hair done like the 80s X-Men Storm character from and the lady next to me was going Wolverine. The people there were like "Yeah we can do you any x men hair you want, Gambit, Cyclops, Rogue." What beats that? I have never written a Yelp review, mostly because I'm lazy but also because I've never been that compelled to sing praises of a place I've come across on the site; be it restaurant, salon or other. Glamourama (specifically Chris) has compelled me to share my awesome experience today! I moved to Western Mass from Boston about 5 months ago and have suffered with my pixie cut ever since. I have been to countless salons where my layers have been butchered and I've left feeling like a poodle after a shampoo and blow dry, which only got worse as my hair grew out between cuts. Thanks to Yelp and its awesome reviews about the place, I found Glamourama in Northampton. Not only was the receptionist able to fit me in the same day after checking on a cancellation, but I was paired up with the best stylist I've had in a very long time. Chris asked so many questions about what I wanted (I'm the most indecisive person ever) to make sure she gave me the perfect cut. She gave me a super short pixie while keeping long layers on top. Chris gave my hair so much texture that it moves playfully and I can actually let it air dry, cutting back on hours of styling at home (which is awesome, because I'm pregnant and due in two days and won't have the time to shower let alone style my hair). I will definitely be back! Thank you Glamourama and a special thank you to Chris for giving me the best pixie cut I've had in the 5 months I've been in Western Mass, but also in the past year. I've been to Glamourama twice now, both times with Shalane. The first time was for colour, and I agree with all the reviews here that she is an excellent colourist. The second time was for cut and colour, and I was really disappointed. The cut took almost 2 hours, and at the end my long, only slightly wavy (easy to cut) hair was shorter than I wanted, and significantly uneven on the length at the back - like an inch difference - which I only noticed when I got home and saw in the mirror when all my hair had fallen over my shoulders. My real complaint is with how I was treated after this discovery. I asked to have an appointment with Rosa, the owner, as I thought she'd want to ensure quality at her salon, and I didn't trust Shalane to fix the cut since she'd cut it so unevenly the first time. I was told I could have an appointment in a week's time. This clearly wasn't going to work, so I asked to speak to Rosa. A message must have been passed, but she didn't call me back as promised, and when I called to chase her, the receptionist was snappy and slightly rude. When I finally spoke to Rosa she defended Shalane and said that she thought I was the kind of person who would never be satisfied. Great that she stood up for her employee. Bad because she never even saw my hair or gave me the benefit of the doubt. It really was uneven! In the end they gave me a full refund, but it didn't make me feel better. In large part because I like Shalane - I just wanted an even haircut, and to be treated with a little respect. read more

I went today for a "trim."Literally about one half inch taken off my ends. I was told I would be charged thirty dollars,which I thought was outrageous,but I needed my ends cut. When I went to pay I was originally told it would be forty six dollars. I told the woman at the desk I was quoted thirty dollars on the phone. I asked the woman on the phone TWICE what the charge would be. The stylist,Lynn, told me her price was thirty six. I've ways had Chris in the past and never had this type of experience. Shes always charged what I felt was an appropriate price. Forty three dollars (Including tip) I left. This is a sad update and one I wish I wasn't writing. I still maintain Betheny is a great stylist and I have been more than happy with my cut every time. My cuts have been good enough for me to ignore the specific decor (which is not my taste or style at all). I have been a loyal customer now for about a year. Loyal as in, a regular cut every 6-8 weeks. I scheduled my usual cut a few weeks ago, but had to cancel due to a family emergency that took me out of MA. I rescheduled at the time of my cancel. I then had to cancel AGAIN -- which I've never done -- due to an interview. Both are unexpected and neither would be scheduled around a hair cut (obv). When I called to reschedule the second time, accompanied with apologies, the receptionist said in a condescending tone "Oh, you've been rescheduling a lot" or "you're the one whose been rescheduling a lot." Something along those lines. This is inappropriate and unnecessary. I'm not a new customer and I've never had to reschedule twice (if rescheduling at all), so her tone and comment was way out of line. If she really felt the need to comment, asking me if everything is okay would've been appreciated. That was it for me. I'm trying Salon 241 next. Your loss Glamourama and sorry Betheny! **After this review, I got one of the most mean-spirited messages I've ever received. Laura the receptionist let me know that they canceled my appointment after reading the review, referenced the "tacky decor" comment I made in the first review. So I recently jumped ship from another salon, where the stylists seemed incapable of doing a short haircut for me that didn't make me look (and feel!) like a soccer mom. Several of my friends go to Glamourama, so I thought I'd give them a try. It's not an exaggeration to say that Elise gave me the *best hair cut I've ever had.* She listened to my complaints about previous cuts, cut my hair both wet and dry, and the end result is that she essentially performed a miracle on my poofy, frizzy hair. And she only charged $34! Even the fabulous gays I went to in San Francisco couldn't do what she did and charge twice as much for the honor. Hell. Yes. Glamourama! Let's just say...I have very, very thick and unruly hair. And I was also EXTREMELY afraid to trust someone with my hair again (see the review I left for Regis Salon last year!) after my last mishap. I had heard such good things about Glamourama (on Yelp!) that I decided to give them a try. But, I live very far away and wanted to make sure that I could find a stylist who understood both my fear AND the style I wanted. I commented on their Facebook page with my concerns, and I got an email back from Rosa, who I'm pretty sure runs the place. Since I lived so far away, she took my information and forwarded it to a stylist (Sarah) who was super excited to help me with my hair. I went in today, still a little scared (let me tell you: living with a horrible mistake of a haircut for a year really makes you afraid of who you turn your hair over to!) but once I met Sarah I instantly felt better. She understood exactly what I wanted and totally put me at ease. She cut my hair both wet and dry and took her time to be sure I got exactly the cut I wanted. And not only that, but we talked the whole time. (I'm used to salons where the stylists talk more to their co-workers than to you, and you end up feeling just a little uncomfortable because of all the silence.) But not with Sarah! She was super friendly and we found a lot to talk about. Everyone else in the salon seemed really nice, too. Went in to Glamourama and walked out with the best haircut I've gotten in almost a year. Chris was friendly and knowledgeable, and listened to all of my hair concerns. The atmosphere is funky and colorful, not stuffy or too-cool-for-school like most salons can be. The price was totally reasonable -- $36 for an excellent haircut? Okay by me. The only thing I didn't like? They really pushed hair products on me. My hair at Glamourama turned into a 3 week saga but in the best way you can imagine as I emerged feeling better about my hair than ever before. I scheduled a cut and color but thought it would only take an hour and a half (my bad) . The cut alone took that long. Shalane asked me all sorts of particular questions I could never have thought of but really added to the quality of the cut. I scheduled the next week for the color with Bethany and although we persevered and tried to due my stubborn without bleach, the dye barely showed up. Because it wasn't exactly how I wanted it, she offered to do it again for no charge and charged me minimum for the color. When I went in again to get it corrected, I was so happy with the placement and the color. It's exactly what I wanted which is especially hard considered the only help I gave her was "mahogany, subtle but not". Helpful. The general atmosphere is punky Barbie and offbeat which is great for a vanilla girl like me who wants an edge. I was really impressed by the really dramatic hair it's going on around me. Amazing amazing amazing! My stylist for the 5 years that I lived in Northampton was Elyse, but I honestly believe that you can't go wrong with any of the wonderful ladies at Glamourama! I've moved and I'm really bummed that I can't go to Elyse for my cuts anymore. Quality cuts, quality color, quality hair products, and stylists who care about you. I was always amazed that Elyse could remember details of my life from visit to visit (I only made it in every 4-6 months). I was able to trust her skills enough to go in and tell her to have fun and know that I would walk out with a cut that I loved. I sent several friends (at least 3) to Glam and they were never disappointed with the results either. I have thick, straight hair and had done a perm over 6 months prior to visiting Glamourama. Bethuny took the job in her hands in the most unique, individualized way possible. My hair didn't hold the perm past the first few days, with some waves. However, Bethuny was able to layer it in such a way that the waves came back up and styled it so that I would get a sense of how to restore the perm. Wow... Pure magic. My hair is as thick and straight as it gets so I didn't think it was possible, but she managed to think her way around it. Everyone complimented my hair, she gave it a lot of volume through the cut. I've also gone in for a free color consultation, which I highly recommend and doesn't hurt. It takes 10-15 minutes. She educated me on a lot of basics of coloring so that we could communicate with it. Bethuny gave me a very clear picture of what I would have to do in order to achieve certain various tones and consulted me on the best decision combinations in order to keep my hair healthy. Not to mention I'm a huge fan of the decor and DIY punk and rockabilly vibes. If only I had the funds, I would definitely go to Glamourama for color. The prices are reasonable, it seems, for the job they do. I've seen their work and am astounded. If I lived closer, I would come for frequent cuts. Certainly for color, you're getting a top notch experience and an amazing dye job for probably a lot cheaper than in New York City or Boston. I've had an overall great experience here. read more

Great service and WONDERFUL cutter and colorist. Chris cut my hair paying close attention to all my ramblings and complaining about my hair. She came up with an excellent option. I had ideas about major changes to my hair (cutting it much shorter and getting bangs). I went armed with lots of examples of what I was looking for. Chris patiently listened to me, looked at all my examples, and one by one explained either why they wouldn't work with my hair or that they would require enormous effort to achieve the look (not what I wanted). So, she made some suggestions about how I could get the layers in my hair to look much better but still keep the length and the kind of bangs that would work for me. She did it all! I love my haircut so much. I have a lot of hair and I feel like someone finally layered it in a way that works. I've never had bangs this short, but I absolutely adore them. Shalene took her time and really listened to what I did and didn't like about my hair color and the cut. She checked out the pictures I brought in and discussed all the options I had. Clean, followed all ness as art protocol to protect clients and provide great service. I didn't personally like my cut and I went to have it recut in Easthampton. I really needed a cut after COVID shut down and I couldn't schedule anywhere. This place has conscientious online booking and confirmation. The stylist I was scheduled with was very new, she told me she had just started. I think she was timid due to being new and didn't cut enough off.
