I rarely write reviews but my experience at Salon 23 West was amazing! For the low price of $45 (which includes the first-time discount and student discount), I was given a trim and a tutorial over how to use the flat iron to curl my hair! I was also given complimentary tea and lots of cookies during my session. I would highly recommend going! And make sure to ask for Dana (my hair stylist for the day). Today I went to the salon for a cut and blowout with Jimmy CYR. It was my first time at the salon and I Ioved how open and airy it was. The atmosphere was relaxed and everyone was warm and welcoming. Jimmy listened and did exactly what I hoped for. A healthy trim and he spent quite a while making my hair perfectly smooth and straight. I will definitely be back to do my color next time. I also really liked the products that were used and the hair tools they had. I highly recommend giving this salon a try and especially Jimmy CYR! read more

I've been going to Salon 23 West for over 10 years--and I'm only in my mid-20s. When I walk in the door I feel like I'm seeing my family--everyone there is so nice and says 'hello, how are you doin, can we get you anything?' I always go to see Michael Collins and he is fabulous. He has been there to transform my hair and evolve it as I become a young adult (and now getting married!) I'd highly recommend this place--it is a gem in Wellesley and is a place I'll be going to for another 10 years!! read more

I went to Salon 23 West because it had high Yelp reviews. I live in Wellesley and yet I had never noticed the salon perched up in the building near Peets. I had an excellent experience, Dale gave me my haircut. She was extremely patient and had to spend much longer than usual on my blowdry. I walked away with a great haircut and a blowdry that lasted throughout the weekend. I highly recommend Dale at Salon 23. Overall, the salon is chic, very very well run, and a pleasure to visit. read more

In October of 2005, Salon 23 West offered a free haircut to students. This was bigger than their traditional promotion of $20 cuts or or 15% off... This generous service got them four stars in my book. The hair products they use are Paul Mitchell--not the best in the market or the worst, and they have varying level of stylists (read, some in training) that you should be aware of when making an appointment. But overall, Lori, was great and I tipped her the regular cost of the haircut. She did a nice straight cut and slightly tapered ends toward the front and blew it dry. read more

Simply Amazing! I was looking for a new place for a haircut and it happens to be where one of my friend works. As a guy I have always been to a barber but I wanted a change in style. The cut was amazing and the stylist are really friendly. Im becoming a client already. Parking is alright but there is a parking lot next to their building. With 4 quarters you get 2 hours which is great. Also having Petes coffe next door is awesome. Will recommend to both ladies and gentlemen to go. read more

I was very disappointed with the service at Salon 23 West. The receptionists on the phone were rude to begin with although the one that was there for my appointment was nicer. However, the overall experience was very bad...I only gave it 2 stars because my hair looks good. I had a deal for a cut, style, blow out, and conditioning treatment. I believe it cost around $50, so it was a good deal... My hairdresser was critical and negative for most of the appointment. If I wanted to be critiqued, I would have gone to my mother. He started by combing out my long, curly hair and then switched to a brush. When I brush my hair, I hold it away from my head to prevent pulling at the scalp. He just brushed right down. Ouch! He then started criticizing by holding pieces up and asking me how often I get my hair cut. He had not asked what I do for a living and may not have asked if he knew what my schedule is like!! He told me I need to get a cut every three months - yeah, right! Next, he started asking me about how much the deal cost. I told him I didn't remember (which was true, but I also thought it was rude to ask). He then started telling me how much his haircuts cost and how much the treatments cost. He played it off like he was trying to congratulate me on such a bargain, but his tone was rude. He was looking for a fair tip. Later, my hairdresser (Moshe) criticized me for using the wrong kind of elastics and wanted to know if I knew that my hair fell out when he combed it. He also told me that my hair would look GREAT with hightlights. My girlfriend constantly comments on how much she loves my hair, and I would never get highlights or a much shorter cut because she loves my hair the way it is. He told me, "Maybe when you get married you'll want highlights." This was without asking whether or not I had plans to get married. Overall, I felt terrible while getting the cut. Normally, I love to get my hair cut, and I actually have pretty nice hair according to most hair dressers. He said I should make another appointment (I won't) but then laughed and said maybe I would find another bargain in 6 months. RUDE! read more

My experience here is mixed. I kind of liked the stylist when I went there first. So, I made a reservation with him next time. When I showed up there, he was not even in. They did not bother to call me about his schedule change. I did not like the idea of trying another stylist, but I gave in and decided to give it a try since I had to have a hair cut on that day. She, Dina, turned out to be terrible. I wanted to have my hair cut short, but she would not do it after my repeated requests. She just simply refused to do it. It seemed like she did not like to work, my request collided her sense of art, or for whatever reasons. She was also very rude to me showing facial disdain on me. I do not know what her problem was, but I have never been to a hair salon that refuses my request for cutting. Manager was not there to complain to. They simply refused to do their job. It could be only she that has a problem with her job and other stylists here are fine, but there are no reasons to go back there when there are many other good salons in the area. read more

I tried this salon because of a promotion that they were having. My first experience was OK- I was not in 'love' with the stylist, as he used too many products, after repeated requests not to. (I know what my super thin hair can 'take' and what it cannot) I decided to give it another chance- The second time the sytlist was rude...maybe b/c I do not fit the "Wellseley" mold, not sure! Would not go here aagin- Way too overpriced- not friendly service. Take your business elswhere. read more

This salon is very chic, but relaxed. Stylists are great, and seem to know a lot about their job. The atmosphere was hip, and didn't make you wait long at all to get your hair done. I got a haircut and highlights with Moshe, and he actually talked to me about my hair, about what I wanted, and made some excellent recommendations about what to do with it based on the length and type of hair I have (curly, relatively fine).
