I have had bad experiences with dental…read morework so I was looking for a place that would ease my concerns for getting extractions done. Unfortunately that was not my experience here with Dr. Pugao. I went for a consult for extractions and when he walked in the room he introduced himself then sat down and had his back turned to me for the first few minutes and answered my questions in an extremely cold and rude manner. The only explanation for his behavior that I could come up with is because initially I had asked if they could prescribe something stronger than ibuprofen, because in the past it had done nothing for the excruciating pain of my last extraction. At that point, he had probably drew a false conclusion that I'm just looking to abuse medication and decided I'm not someone worthy of his respect and patience. I asked if it was possible to send my medications to the pharmacy early in the morning on the day of my surgery and he seemed annoyed that I would ask such a question. I explained that in the past that its been a struggle for me after operations because it takes a really long time for meds to be ready and it was torture waiting for the rx to be ready. He said "thats the pharmacy's problem." How condescending of this doctor. Why would anyone want to be operated on by this man after being spoken to this way? Yes, Dr. Pugao, I am well aware that pharmacy wait times have nothing to do with your practice and thats the pharmacy's problem, thats why I am asking you if there's anything you can do to help me avoid that. I mentioned that I have mental trauma from getting my other wisdom teeth extracted and he did nothing to ease my concerns that I had experienced in the past. He seemed offended when I brought up my concerns, as if I was attacking his own ability as a surgeon. I was in no way rude or disrespectful when talking about concerns. By the time he finished the consult and left the room, I was in tears. I was in complete shock with the way I was spoken to and the dental assistant just said, Oh he's just very thorough. For someone like myself, who has extreme anxiety over extractions and operations in general, this place is not accommodating. Its taken me years to finally build up the courage to address my remaining wisdom teeth after years of putting it off, because of my anxiety, and this consult was such a devastating experience for me. I understand that as a surgeon you have to be direct and set clear expectations when going over what to expect for an operation, but there's a huge difference between being direct and being smug, aloof and downright condescending. I'm sure he does great work but I wouldn't let anyone who talked to me that way operate on me. It's unfortunate because most patients will accept this type of behavior just because they're the medical professional and think this type of behavior is just to be accepted as a patient. Do better, High Desert Oral & Facial. You have a physician who falls completely short of the first portion of your mission statement: "Treating each patient as an individual with unique concerns and needs" I realize my situation is unique, in that I have extreme anxiety about dental work and operations, but kindness, patience and understanding is the easiest thing a professional can practice and Dr. Pugao behaved completely opposite of that. Maybe it was my fault, and I should have asked the front office for a doctor who actually will listen to a patient's concerns and show an ounce of compassion. This consult I payed for was a complete waste of money as I will definitely not be returning to this practice for my procedure.

An orthodontist friend referred us to High Desert Oral & Facial Surgery, where we saw Dr. Furchtgott . She is kind, professional, and patient. She spent the time with us looking at the x-rays and explaining what needed to be done, with options. And at a reasonable fee. Also explained her limits, and what needed to be done with our local dentist.

We then sat there for another 30 mins, no sign of Dr.Yates, so we left. Based on the other 1 star reviews, this looks to be the norm. We were then required to see a doctor's assistant before we left, no idea why. The one thing they were quick about was collecting the co- pay before we even began waiting. They were lightening-fast about that. Unless you live on the west side and/or have all the time in the world to account for their sloppy scheduling, I'd say avoid this place.

Reason: several days before I stopped in just to make sure my insurance would cover the expense of having two molars removed. No argument but the night before my appointment I balked: --- I'm 80 u]years old and have had my share of dental work and have never, ever had a dentist require a CT Scan for any reason. The person I spoke to stated several times that the price was $1999 each arch, & they had financing options to handle the cost, so I booked a free consultation visit, & booked a stay in El Paso for that. Today I called to see if I could be preapproved for the financing program ( I was declined) then was told that they had another program, but it would only cover to $20,000. ??? I thought, so I asked why so much if the price was $1999 each, she then said the total was $39980. I said wait a minute your ad and you have told me the price is $1999 each- that total would be $3890! I explained to her that the pricing on the ad and what I was being quoted was not what I understood it to be, and should have been listed and quoted as $19,990 each, as there was a 10x difference from what was advertised & quoted! I told her that this was false & misleading advertising, and they needed to correct this! I also told her to cancel my consultation. Being a retired Cherokee veteran, on Medicare, who uses the VA and Indian healthcare systems (I don't have any dental insurance that would help with this, so there is no way I could afford the treatment at that cost. I just searched for the original ad and found that it has been removed! You would think people would check their math before they post a price in an advertisement! Hope I can cancel my motel, as that trip is off! ·

Am pleased to share that I've been a satisfied patient of EPQD for five years. Finding this dental practice was a reassuring part of returning to and resettling in ELP after being away for many years. Normally I hesitate to make an unreserved recommendation -- individual expectations can be so different. Who knows what anyone else values in any service right? Important to me: Good communication including food listening. Firm recommendations when action is needed. Genuinely kind and thoughtful staff. Well trained and focused professionals. Thorough and gentle cleaning. Patient education focus. High quality services with no pressure for additional option. And equally high quality referrals to related professionals as needed. So when I was asked if I would be comfortable putting in writing some feedback I'd verbalized I thought back to my own past positive experience of making a face to face referral of another professional colleague new to ELP. The referral I made immediately circled back when my colleague let me know that their family had the same "best dental experience". My positive experience at EPQD is not unique.
