I have been so pleased with every part of my experience with High Desert Oral and Facial Surgery…read more From the time I first contacted them to the day of my final follow-up, they have been compassionate, courteous and very efficient. Having oral surgery is never an experience one looks forward to, but Dr. Furchgott and her staff made what is usually an unpleasant ordeal into something I will not dread in the future. The doctor is very kind and exceptionally gentle. She made little jokes to ease my nerves, and it worked! The staff explained everything that was going to happen in plain terms that I could easily understand. And they prepared me for the period of time after my procedure by giving me very complete instructions. The front desk walked me through the insurance process and told me exactly how much I would have as my co-pay. Overall, I would say that this doctor's office knows what they are doing, and that I was treated very well, and taken care of in a very professional way.

We then sat there for another 30 mins, no sign of Dr.Yates, so we left. Based on the other 1 star reviews, this looks to be the norm. We were then required to see a doctor's assistant before we left, no idea why. The one thing they were quick about was collecting the co- pay before we even began waiting. They were lightening-fast about that. Unless you live on the west side and/or have all the time in the world to account for their sloppy scheduling, I'd say avoid this place.

Even though I arrived a little late, everyone greeted me with warm smiles and made me feel completely welcome. The office is beautiful, modern, and equipped with impressive technology. The technician who took my X-rays was outstanding--thorough, gentle, and very professional. Dr. Alessandro Retis took the time to carefully examine my mouth, explain my options, and answer every question I had. I especially appreciated that he wanted to contact the dentist who originally placed my implants because he recognized they were high-quality implants that could potentially be used rather than unnecessarily replaced. That thoughtful and conservative approach gave me a great deal of confidence. The team also showed me the materials they use and explained their commitment to giving patients the best possible smile. One thing that really touched me was when they shared how rewarding it is to see the joy on their patients' faces after treatment--sometimes even bringing tears of happiness to both the patients and the staff. That spoke volumes about how much they truly care. James was wonderful in explaining the financial options and financing available. Everything was presented clearly, with absolutely no pressure. Freddy was equally exceptional. He carefully walked me through the treatment plan, explained the laboratory process in detail, answered every one of my questions with patience, and made sure I understood everything. I never felt rushed. What impressed me most was the outstanding customer service from the entire team. They encouraged me to take my time, think everything over, and let them know if I had any additional questions. There was never any pressure--only kindness, honesty, and a sincere desire to help. Based on my experience, I would absolutely recommend El Paso Family Dental to anyone looking for a caring, knowledgeable, and professional dental team. Thank you all for making such a positive impression on me!

According to my subsequent medical evaluations, critical parts of my skull base were removed, and muscles and tendons were disrupted from my palate and skull base--outcomes I did not understand to be part of the procedure I consented to. Since that surgery, I have experienced severe difficulty holding my head upright and breathing normally. Afterward, I struggled to obtain clear and consistent answers about what had been done during the procedure.. I was left trying to understand what had happened while navigating devastating physical consequences and searching for doctors who could help me. I continue to endure unimaginable physical suffering while searching for answers and treatment. Every medical appointment has become an enormous physical challenge, and I am deeply frightened for my future. Patients place an extraordinary amount of trust in their doctors. I am sharing my experience so that others understand why I believe it is so important to ask questions, understand exactly what a procedure involves, and seek additional opinions when necessary. I will continue asking the question : Why was this done? Until I receive an honest account.

I had really high hopes for this place as it's highly rated. I have had bad experiences with dental…read morework so I was looking for a place that would ease my concerns for getting extractions done. Unfortunately that was not my experience here with Dr. Pugao. I went for a consult for extractions and when he walked in the room he introduced himself then sat down and had his back turned to me for the first few minutes and answered my questions in an extremely cold and rude manner. The only explanation for his behavior that I could come up with is because initially I had asked if they could prescribe something stronger than ibuprofen, because in the past it had done nothing for the excruciating pain of my last extraction. At that point, he had probably drew a false conclusion that I'm just looking to abuse medication and decided I'm not someone worthy of his respect and patience. I asked if it was possible to send my medications to the pharmacy early in the morning on the day of my surgery and he seemed annoyed that I would ask such a question. I explained that in the past that its been a struggle for me after operations because it takes a really long time for meds to be ready and it was torture waiting for the rx to be ready. He said "thats the pharmacy's problem." How condescending of this doctor. Why would anyone want to be operated on by this man after being spoken to this way? Yes, Dr. Pugao, I am well aware that pharmacy wait times have nothing to do with your practice and thats the pharmacy's problem, thats why I am asking you if there's anything you can do to help me avoid that. I mentioned that I have mental trauma from getting my other wisdom teeth extracted and he did nothing to ease my concerns that I had experienced in the past. He seemed offended when I brought up my concerns, as if I was attacking his own ability as a surgeon. I was in no way rude or disrespectful when talking about concerns. By the time he finished the consult and left the room, I was in tears. I was in complete shock with the way I was spoken to and the dental assistant just said, Oh he's just very thorough. For someone like myself, who has extreme anxiety over extractions and operations in general, this place is not accommodating. Its taken me years to finally build up the courage to address my remaining wisdom teeth after years of putting it off, because of my anxiety, and this consult was such a devastating experience for me. I understand that as a surgeon you have to be direct and set clear expectations when going over what to expect for an operation, but there's a huge difference between being direct and being smug, aloof and downright condescending. I'm sure he does great work but I wouldn't let anyone who talked to me that way operate on me. It's unfortunate because most patients will accept this type of behavior just because they're the medical professional and think this type of behavior is just to be accepted as a patient. Do better, High Desert Oral & Facial. You have a physician who falls completely short of the first portion of your mission statement: "Treating each patient as an individual with unique concerns and needs" I realize my situation is unique, in that I have extreme anxiety about dental work and operations, but kindness, patience and understanding is the easiest thing a professional can practice and Dr. Pugao behaved completely opposite of that. Maybe it was my fault, and I should have asked the front office for a doctor who actually will listen to a patient's concerns and show an ounce of compassion. This consult I payed for was a complete waste of money as I will definitely not be returning to this practice for my procedure.
