I have spent the past 30 years in customer service primarily as a trainer for national retail chains and this is my story from Wednesday November 18, 2020 I drove for 2 hrs to get to my closest Sally after a nasty hair colouring booboo. -Barrie's Sally Beauty Supply. All I can say is WOW!! I entered the store and was greeted by Freshta, asking "Hi, how are you today?" "Not good" I answered. This almost black hair, was not supposed to look like this, I said... Freshta has, hands down, the best customer service of anyone anywhere, in any industry, that I have experienced in probably, the past 5 years. Not only was she beyond helpful, she was exceptionally patient with me, she didn't try to oversell me on anything, she suggested DIY solutions and, she followed up, texting me to make sure that every thing worked out ok. Freshta is the type of employee that every employer would kill to have an entire crew of, and one that shoppers can appreciate as she is not pushy or rushed, not rude or short. She is knowledgeable and kind. She explained things on a level that my own salon has never explained - and I pay them really good money. She wasn't condescending like many of today's younger sales staff. She was truly a gem, in my "hour of need". I will go back, probably long before I head back to the over priced salon. I managed to remove the colour from my hair, recolour it to what I had originally expected it to be and, I was under $50. I recall having this done over 10 yrs ago at a salon in Oakville and I was over $300.00. Oh - and i forgot to mention, she totally nailed the new/old colour with no pics to reference. So Amazing. Sally Beauty Supply has everything you need to beautify yourself -- hair products, makeup, nails, you name it. It's a small store in the Mayfield Common area, but it's loaded with primping goodies. The makeup section is a little small, but they have a bit of everything in that department, and all for really good prices. Most of the shop focuses on hair products however, with all kinds of hair dyes, hair removal kits, and hair-styling products. They have a whole row of curling irons and hair straighteners, some of which I've never even seen before. The girl working there was really sweet; she told me about their coupon sale they're having until this Friday, where you get special bonuses if you shop and use their in-store coupon. They also do rain-checks if they don't have what you want at the moment, and you can pick up your item later on with the same sale price. She also told me they get a lot of salons ordering products from here. So this is where the big places get their stuff! I kind of wish they had more hair accessories like hair ties, but they don't. I will make sure to come back for the makeup though. At that price, I can't afford not to. read more

We stopped in here to pick up some hair colour brushes as they seem a bit hard to find. They had a few different kinds and prices but were all reasonable, ranging from a sale price of 99 cents to $1.59. They offer a rewards card for $5.00 a year and you pay the lower price shown on the price sticker. This location is in Mayfield Common with lots of parking and open the usual retail hours. It is small and tight spaced but has lots of products from curling irons, brushes, hair products and accessories, nail polish, makeup and sponges, anything beauty related! The service was average and the second cashier could have opened up sooner as there really is no place to line up without getting in someone's way. read more

I was pretty excited when I learned Sally opened in Edmonton. There is a beauty website I frequent (not sure if I am allowed to say) but it's basically people giving opinions, reviewing products, etc. The response alot on there give when someone is looking for something is simply "you can get it at Sally". For some of us that is not an option...... until now in my case. A little unknown fact about Sally is that they have some generic versions of hair products that you can buy in salons. For the last two years I've been buying the same shampoo/conditioner (Matrix Smooth N Sleek). Sally has a knock of version that is half the price and I notice no difference between the two. I've been dying my hair religiously (around every month and a half) since I was 16 due to my awesome genes and getting bad grey hair. I do this myself at home with a normal box dye. Lately I'd found it's just not doing as good of a job anymore. I decided to try something a little more professional and ventured into Sally to buy some dye. Knowing absolutly nothing about the steps needed (all I knew was you needed dye and a developer). The sales clerk was able to pick out the correct developer for me (there are different volumes). After doing the dye job I found my grey was covered better than any other box dye has done. So if you want professional quality dye but without the price of going to a salon I'd definitly recommend buying your hair dye at Sally. I've found the staff at all locations are pretty friendly and knowledgeable. They are more than happy to answer any questions or give recommendations. read more

I was pleased to find a Sally's close to home and be able to locate specialty nail products like Gelous and Orly Bonder that normally are only available online or at more expensive stores. The prices here are good, and if you join their Beauty Club, you get a discounted price on everything, plus special offers, coupons, etc. Seniors join for free, but even the regular price is low enough to guarantee you'll get savings - in fact, if you don't save more than the membership fee, you get the next year free! I'm looking forward to their mailers and emails to see more savings. And a nice touch is that your purchases are tracked online and combined with any online buying, so you can always see what you've bought. Shipping, by the way, is free from their online site, so once you've found the products you love most, you can always shop from home if you prefer. I was assisted at this location by a lovely young lady named Emily, who made the experience very pleasant and was quick to correct an error their computer system made in neglecting to deduct a special savings. Short, sweet and to the point. This Sally's location isn't very large but it doesn't need to be, it is packed with all sorts of goodies to make beautifying more fun. I am a nail polish freak, I have a whole lot of it. And you know what I love more than new nail polish? High end nail polish for cheap! This place has it in abundance. You save even more if you join the Beauty Club--it's already saved me more than $10 and that was on one purchase! If nail polish isn't your jam (no problem there, more for me!) then you may find hair products, lotions or accessories to your liking. I haven't purchased any of the makeup here, I have the brands that I like to stick with, but I've bought lots of lotions and foot scrubs here that I've really liked. They also have a wide selection of hair appliances like dryers and straighteners. The store is on the small side and doesn't have everything (a recent trip to find a makeup carrying case left me empty handed, for example). It focuses mainly on hair care and styling, you won't find a lot (or sometimes any) of skincare or cosmetics. If you are a beauty junkie and would like to save some money I would seriously recommend here before hitting up Shoppers, you'll likely find what you need (or something even better than what you had in mind!) for a great price. read more

I was ecstatic when I learned that Sally Beauty Supply will be opening in Edmonton; and ever since the Mayfield location opened, I have been a loyal customer. All ladies know that Sally sells everything a girl may need to beautify herself. On the shelves there are skin, hair and nail care products, waxing supplies and hair styling tools, hair color and make-up. Most of the products are inexpensive, but deliver on their promise. Through trial and error anybody is sure to find products that become holy grails. Only at Sally was I able to find Orly nail polishes, Wella hair color sold to the public and not to spa workers only, and Palladio blotting tissues. Before Sally came to Edmonton, I was ordering all these products online. The most important thing when shopping at Sally is to be patient and ask sales associates for recommendations and assistance. Otherwise it is easy to get lost in all the products, tools and accessories. The ladies working at Sally are knowledgeable and helpful. Also, if you plan on shopping at Sally frequently, make sure to sign up for beauty club card. This rating is for the portage avenue store in Winnipeg. 4th time they could not find my discount membership in their system. I've paid twice for the year now. HQ had called me last week to say the issue was solved. This happened only because I went to the kenaston location last week and they actually attempted to fix the problem. I understand it's not the clerks fault but at least offer to do something. Anyhow, just left the portage Ave location as I thought my card would now work (swore I'd never return to that location) nope. Same clerk as every other time, no smile, asked if I wanted her to call head office. OF COURSE I DO. she then sat on the phone on hold and expected me to wait. The kenaston store rang up my purchase and dealt with head office when I left. Sure enough, sally beauty called me back within a day or two. Granted the issue isn't fixed. I finally said can you put my items through and deal with HQ when I leave. She told me she had to get the "club price" first. I told her they did it at the other location. Then magically, she was able to ring through my purchase with club pricing while she remained on hold. Didn't bag my items, didn't say thank you, sorry for the inconvenience, didn't even look at me. We will see where she gets with HQ. Please train your employees in customer service. I will not shop at the portage store again and I'll pass on this info to my friends. read more

BEWARE CREDIT CARD FRAUD!! I shopped at this location quite frequently. But about three weeks ago I went in to Sally's and purchased some hair dye on my credit card. I was already back to my car with my daughter strapped into her car seat when the cashier came running out and told me she had made a mistake. She said she mischarged me and the product was $4.00 more than I paid. I was in a hurry as my daughter was impatient and I handed her a $5 bill. A few days ago I noticed a $38.00 charge to my card from this store. I had not been there since the hair dye day, and my credit card was in my wallet. I was completely caught off guard with the charge and feared my credit card information had been stolen. I asked that a manager call me back. No one called, so I called the store and spoke to the manager. I explained what happened the last time I was in and she told me she had just rang through a bunch of pending charges on their credit card system. I explained to her what happened and she said she would have to call me back. She called today to tell me that the cashier put this amount through on the date I was in and that she could not help me she did not know the real charge and there was nothing she could do. I asked if the girl remembered this happening and me giving her cash, and she said the girl was in the store and said I did not give her cash. She then told me I should call the customer service hotline. I am completely shocked at the horrible customer service and lack of concern for the issue. I am a pro customer and shop there a lot. I have had to cancel my card, and am not working with my credit card company to dispute this, but the store had no problem keeping money the cashier mischarged, and no concern that cash was missing?? I will never shop at Sally's again, and recommend that if you do you save your receipt and pay only with cash. read more

Oh boy.. haven't had a good experience at either location. They have great products but the staff members are dumb. I bought hair dye from there (the shade was recommended by a girl that worked there). It was a dark brown.I went back a month or so later and asked the same girl for the color of the same color of dye that my hair was. I took the dye home that she gave me and when I was finished dying it, it turned out black!! I wanted dark brown!! Was really upset as this was right before my mother's wedding! read more

I had a poor customer service experience today from the manager at the Sally Beauty store over the Mayfield Common in Edmonton. I went there to purchase and the system was down so I was informed that I could not get any points. I asked her if there were any way to get the points later like return with the receipt or something. She said there is no way to get the points so I said to her that the company needs to put something in place so that when the system is down customers can get their points later. She told me she is not a computer so there is nothing she could do. I am very upset and I found her comments to be very rude and disrespectful. I told her I only made the purchase because I had a $5 coupon but that was the last time I was doing business with Sally's. I am so upset because it was the previous great customer service why I kept shopping there. The staff should be trained better to deal with customers. I went back there to speak to the manager and found out that she was the manager. That was even more shocking. I cant even rate the customer service a 1 at this point. I went into the Sallys store on Calgary Trail and talked to the Manager requesting a double wax pot. She took my number and said she would call me as it only takes about a week for it to be ordered. I waited a week and no call. I called the store and the manager was not in. I left my number as the sales clerk said she would call me the next day. Its been 4 days now and no call. My daughters birthday is coming up in a few days and I still do not have a double wax pot to give her. If there was someplace else I could go to buy one I would. read more

I love Sally's and could easily spend a couple hours browsing and drop a couple hundred dollars, which says a lot considering it's not a huge store. But it can be a bit hit and miss. This location especially doesn't always seem to be stocked very well or maybe I'm just going at the wrong time. I have also found the quality of some of the products has been a bit sub par, mostly with hair products and a few skin care items. But the selection available and the reasonable prices I can accept a few duds. I would recommend doing some research and even checking the product reviews on their website. I like the fact that staff usually offer to help but won't harass you. As for styling tools you won't usually find in a drug store, cosmetics, applicators, nail polish, nail care and hair color, this is the place to go. read more

I go to Sallys in Mayfield Common and I've never encountered more helpful staff ANYWHERE. I had a hair disaster and my hair was beyond repair. Janine, Shelby and all of the other girls did their absolute best to help me disguise the damage until it grew out sufficiently. If it wasn't for their help I really don't know what I would have done. They knew what my hair needed and also what I shouldn't use. This location is definitely the best one because of the girls that work there and it's also very convenient for me. Thank you very much. read more

I don't like that I have to rate this location with even one star. I went in to get tanning lotion and was blown away by how unprofessional all the girls in the store were! I wasn't greeted at all and I stood at the tanning section for a good 10 minutes and no one talked to me. They were all talking, loudly, to each other and gossiping about one of the other girls that works there. Before one of them said something I assume was going to be fowl, she said "wait, is there a customer in here?" And then proceeded with her gossiping. Not only does that show poor customer service but it also shows poor character. I highly suggest that the management and owners re-evaluate these girls and future employees. I am not only shocked but utterly upset about what just happened to me at this store.I was a loyal customer of 2 years until about 20 mins ago. I was in the store looking at some foundation makeup and since there was no testers of the liquid foundation I was gently opening the packages and comparing the colors to my wrist ( as they varied greatly from the color shown on the box). To be very clear i did not touch the colors or the sponges) I made my purchase and then headed next door to do some shopping. When I came back to get into my car, a sales rep from Sally's came over to my car and ACCUSED me of using the sponges in the foundation compacts to test the color. I assured her that I hadn't and she continued to accuse me. She went on to be extremely rude and she said she had WATCHED me do it. I asked her to show me the damaged compacts and she showed me colors that I didn't even open the packages to look at! She then said she had stocked them this morning so therefore it had to be me. So now she is the liar as she had first said that she had seen me do it. It was close to 5 in the afternoon, so I am sure other people had looked at the makeup today befor me. I assured her that I wouldn't lie about something like this and in will never be shopping there again, as well as all my friends who have started shopping there due to my referral. She didn't even offer one ounce of an apology. I am disgusted. read more
