I have never dyed my hair and rarely get a good cut. I was in the mood to do something different and knew I needed to find someone who was comfortable with hair like mine. I phoned Chelsea and setup an appointment. I immediately liked her after one conversation. She was honest, professional and sincere. She explained that she would need three hours so she could get to know my hair and work through some options. I arrived for my appointment and found plenty parking on street. The house is an older one that has had a lot of time and love put into it. The front yard has a black metal fence and beautiful koi pond. Chelsea greeted me at the door and took me in straight away. The house is setup as a business and is stunning. I love older homes with ornate moldings and wooden floors. I explained what I was looking for and for the next three hours Chelsea and I looked through photos, talked about expectations for my hair and aftercare. We decided on a nice layering with blond balayage. Being a red head she did warn me that the blond may not work. In the end it worked perfectly and this was my first real step away from what I've always had. My hair is still soft and not dried out thanks to her efforts to apply products that would help it. I had a wonderful experience and trust her with all my future hair needs. She is professional and takes her career very seriously.

I was referred to Chelsey at Epic Hair. First, the best way to seek out a new stylist is to ask people whose hair you admire. That's a stylist calling card. Epic is located in my hood, Old Strathcona. The salon is in a house that has been converted. The style is chic and very European. I instantly felt at home. Chelsey is the owner and currently is the only stylist. She will be adding more in the near future. I felt I needed a new style. We discussed over a cup of mint tea. Although she like the style I wanted to was quick to tell me that my current style is the fashion this season. I took her advice. I look for this in a professional. What she did do was enhanced my current style and made it shine! I then asked about product! YAY she didn't try to sell me product I did not need. She carries just a few basic lines. Said I did not need any styling product. What I loved though was the hair product she does carry she also sells the sample size so you can try for a discounted price. She felt confident in the style choice she made with me however she mentioned that if I still felt strongly about changing my style that I could come on by with no extra charge! Great salon. Superb professional. Awesome ambiance!

I go to Lulu for all my waxing needs, because it's cheap and convenient. If I could afford it, I…read morewould go somewhere a little more high-end like Aveda. But Lulu is cheap and does the job for me. An eyebrow wax comes to about $7 when normally I would have to pay twice as much at a place like Aveda. Angel is the lady who usually does my waxing, and she's really sweet. Lulu is a family-owned business, and they're always super-friendly when you walk in. You don't need to make an appointment, they accept walk-ins. I have never had to wait for a waxing, I just come in and they have me in the seat right away. They also do haircuts, styling, and coloring, although I've never had my hair cut here yet. They sell hair care products which include brands like AG, which is the one I swear by. I first discovered Lulu when I was searching for some affordable AG, and they were selling it pretty cheap but didn't have it in stock at the time. Instead they made a rush order and put some aside for me to pick up, which I thought was pretty cool. I think I've been here about four times, and I'm probably going to continue being a repeat customer. I should also note they take cash and cheques only, no credit or debit.

I decided to save some money by visiting Lulu. I also wanted to patronize a local, family run business because these places are slowly dying off in my nieghbourhood. Since I am very spontaneous, I appreciate a salon that takes "walk ins". My first visit was for a colour and trim. Lulu spent a lot of time with me deciding on a colour. Nothing was jumping out at me, so she went to the back and produced a sample that one of her reps had left for her. I was the perfect guinea pig. Fabulous. I asked for a micro trim and she complied. She also insisted that if I was to keep my hair long, I was in terrible need of a deep conditioning treatment. Very well. The whole visit cost $100.00. My second visit was for root touch up. I wanted to keep the same colour, but she had forgotten to order my colour product from the rep. I let her mix one up in the back at her discretion. She was training a new staff member and the procedure took forever. The end result was a colour I did not care for, but I liked the trim and I thought that the price was fair. I started colouring my own hair after that, but I still was wanting a nice, fresh cut for Summer. I walked in on a Sunday afternoon and was seated right away. Luckily, Lulu is open 7 days per week. After making my desires clear (to a stylist I had not met before), she repeated my instructions ver betam and I was confident that I would have 1- 1/2 inches cut and some long layers throughout. I was a little stunned to see 6 inches disappear. Whoa! I looked really good. I could not fault her for doing me a huge favour in the end by getting rid of all the damaged hair I had been hanging onto for old times sake. I kind of staggered out of there like a zombie, but once I came to my senses, I started strutting around like a peacock. I know I only gave 2 stars, but I will undoubtedly return and update the review.. It's not a glamorous place, but you will feel welcome, you'll get a cup of tea or coffee, and you won't be broke when you leave.
