Nice little family owned Italian restaurant in West McKinney. They do a brisk takeout business - there was a steady flow of takeout orders the entire time we were dining there. It's small inside but the atmosphere is warm and cozy without feeling to crowded. Order and pay at the counter and then they bring the food to your table. Service was friendly and efficient. I ordered the chicken piccata and really enjoyed it. It tasted fresh and I liked that the white wine lemon sauce was tangy which balanced the creaminess of the dish well. The portion size was decent with two chicken breasts on top of a bed of spaghetti noodles. My partner got the spaghetti and meatballs which was basic, but good. They gave us a basket of rolls - they are huge! It's served with a delicious side of garlic oil. I chatted with another customer while waiting in line who told me her family has been coming here for years. She raved about the chicken pesto and said that's what they always order. Hubby wanted a good Stromboli so Yelp said this was the closest place to try! The bread was amazing! We both wanted the inside temperature of his Stromboli and my calzone to be a little hotter but not a big deal. Friendly counter service but she brought the food out to us. Warm garlic bread was brought to our table with side dishes of oil with herbs and a homemade vinaigrette. Both were excellent. We chose half meatball and half cheese pizza. Generous amounts of meatballs were on the pie along with the right amount of sauce and mozzarella. The crust was perfect. The establishment was very clean with freshly painted walls. Based on my initial review, I was thinking it was a stand alone restaurant but this location is in a strip mall with other businesses and restaurant. There are lots of parking spaces in the plaza. This is a small restaurant where you order at the counter and then grab your table. The decor is cute and I really liked the light fixture. They brought Texas sized garlic rolls to the table with garlic infused olive oil. The waitress at the counter and the server were very friendly. The food came out quickly even though they had a hopping take out service. The food was decent. My gluten free pizza with no cheese was ok. The table favorite was actually the olive oil brought for the garlic bread. read more

Had dinner there tonight and met the new owner who will be changing the name in January to Bari's (I think). Been a long-time customer for Sali's and liked it, and it was even better now. He said he upgraded several things and it showed in the pizza dough and the bow-tie pasta with pesto that we had. Very disappointing. Based on look of establishment one might assume a hidden gem of authenticity, but it's not real. Food was clearly highly processed prepackaged - and the sloppy cutting of the tomatoes was a clear example of the passion in the food. The dough of the flatbread appeared to be out of a package - very processed and frankly not good. Profits might be better, but passion for quality Italian food has been sacrificed. The name & menu (for now) have not changed. BUT. I can taste the difference. Was this place bad? No. Not at all. It was decent. Same rolls, just no butter, now olive oil & seasonings, which tasted fresh. Same house salad and same Look of the house dressing but definitely not the same Taste. My go to is the chicken parm sub. Again, it was fine. Although, this is the first time I willingly handed over my leftovers to my husband. The sauce is different. I don't know how, but it is. Would I go here again? Maybe. We used the app Slice for the first time. No exhorbitant upcharges. They offer delivery for a charge or pick up for free. We had pastas & pizza and the whole family was happy. This place is a literally a tiny little restaurant that has great food. You'd never guess that a restaurant in a Tom Thumb mall would be this good. Only trouble is that there are more people working there than customers and it's so little that it will never be romantic with all the staff standing around listening to you.
