Randomly found this place to eat while driving back home to San Jose on the 101! Got the 2 meat combo with some extra sides to share with my boyfriend and myself! We were satisfied with our meal and it costed around $30! The BBQ sauce is also delicious! It has a nice tang, sweetness and some spice! MEAT: - Brisket (4.5/5): This was the main star! The brisket was very tender and easy to break apart! Loved how this tasted and highly recommend getting this. - Tri Tip (4/5): This was also very good but I loved the brisket a lot more. The meat was also soft but had a chew as well. SIDES: - Potato Salad (4/5): This was good! I liked the flavor but I think it needed more salt & pepper for taste. I also thought there was too much celery but I didn't mind it. - Coleslaw (5/5): My boyfriend LOVED this. He was eating it up! - Beans (3.5/5): This was alright but could have been better. - Garlic Bread (3/5): While the bread was toasted nicely, I was disappointed by the lack of garlic. I wouldn't call this garlic bread. The bread did taste good with the BBQ sauce tho. read more

Ordered breakfast bbq and wow! Super delicious. I ordered brisket breakfast taco and breakfast pulled pork sandwich. They were both fantastic. The meats were incredibly well cooked and seasoned and the fried egg was well cooked with runny yolk. I would like to try the breakfast brisket sandwich in the future. When I visit new cities, it's a challenge to find safe places for my daughter with food allergies to eat at. We ordered the brisket, chicken and tri-tip which was gluten, dairy, egg, soy peanut, sesame free. My whole family loved the food. I thought my brisket was good, but man this place knows how to do brisket. Perfect smoke ring, juicy from the first bite to the last. We saved some for the next day and it was still better than other bbq places I've had before My daughter unfortunately could not have any of the side dishes, but she loved all the smoked meat options that was safe for her. The tri tip sandwich was very good. The flavor was nice and it wasn't dry at all. A very underrated part of this sandwich is the garlic bread. If you enjoy some heat to your sandwich, try the spicy bbq sauce. If I had to critique something, it would be the beans. They tasted more like chili than bbq beans. We ordered to go over the phone and they said they would bring it out because of the rain. The manager himself came out in the rain so his employees nor his customers would get wet. That is service that goes above and beyond! The food was so good. We got the pulled pork and it was so tender and juicy. A legit BBQ place. Traditional meats, fine potato salad, beans, and cornbread, coleslaw, all the BBQ comfort staples I look forward to and love. VERY friendly service, and a diversity of customers that I see nowhere else in town. Best place to eat in Salinas, IMO I come in every other Monday morning for a brisket breakfast sandwich and a stout. In town for work and my employees tipped em to this place. You can smell the smoke from a few blocks away which is inviting. The decor is pretty straight forward bbq with squeeze tubes of bbq sauce on the table. Ordered the combo meal with brisket and pulled pork as well as potato salad and Mac & cheese. The meats were pretty decent. The sauces went well with the meats. The sides were not the strong portion of the meal. The potato salad was serviceable enough, could have been better seasoned. The Mac and cheese was the let down for me. Now there should only be 2 types of Mac and cheese in bbq joints: the sauce kind that is made more to order or the big casserole style that's like a big square. This Mac n cheese was closer to an Alfredo sauced pasta. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't great nor was it Mac n cheese. Overall the place is decent. Def worth a visit. read more

We can't wait to go back for more tasty bbq at Salinas City BBQ!!! The Mrs. and I shared the 3 meat plate (tritip, brisket, and ribs), garlic bread, corn bread, beans, and potato salad. The service was good and we were greeted as we entered. This is a classic BBQ joint where you order at the counter and then they deliver your food to the table. My wife got a can of cold rosé wine and I got a fountain drink (to my Dr. Pepper peeps...they have Dr. Pepper, as well as some other cool soda offerings like a black cherry soda). Pluses on the food: tritip was tender, smoky (not overly smoky) and perfectly seasoned, but kind of cold); the pork ribs were perfectly cooked and had just the right amount of bite; the regular bbq sauce and the spicy were excellent sauces that are sold by the bottle; the BRISKET WAS THE STAR !! Smoke ring, super-super tender meat, the fatty pieces were bomb and the flavor was amazing. Minuses on the food: coldish tritip, ice cold beans that had no flavor. We will most definitely be coming back here ASAP to try some of the other food offerings. See you soon Salinas City BBQ! read more

We visited from San Jose after hanging out at the Monterey County Sheriffs Posse jr. Rodeo and what a find! Awesome BBQ! Husband and I split the 3 meat combo, tri tip, pork ribs, and brisket. All were cooked to perfection, but our favorite was the pork ribs. The seasoning was unique and had a delightful sauce. They were lightly sauced and a tad sweet and not overly tangy. I was unable to eat anything due to a food allergy (they use soybean oil), but I recommend this restaurant for everyone who can eat the food safely. The owner prepared a plate with our Loved One's favorite dishes - she was HI-Japanese - so these were her 'comfort foods'. The dishes sampled were the ones we chose for the event. They included Pancet (meat & veg) and Fried Lumpia. We paid after our tasting & made arrangements for a 3rd party to pick up the dishes on the day of the event. Guests & family raved about the food. It was presented nicely and there was plenty for our large group. We send our gratitude to the owner & his attentive staff for providing exemplary customer service & food. Pick up was easy & everything was packaged for safe transport in a car. Some notes about the restaurant: It's located in a strip mall with ample parking. The place is practically spotless. The owner never stopped cleaning. Restaurant owners & managers, take note!! The menu is simple, but hearty and flavorful (according to my friend). If you're lucky, the dishwasher will serenade you as he works!!

I've been drinking the beers from Alvarado for years without ever visiting any of their locations…read more(had beers at shares, bought them from stores, and even special ordered and had them shipped to me). A couple of friends and me took the opportunity to stop by on our drive back to LA from the Bay Area (along the 101). First impression: one of those convivial breweries with a thriving locals aspect and vibe. Friends I was with are really into craft beer, so we felt right at home. The folks here were super friendly and welcoming. As a matter of fact, there were some cookies made from another regular that was offered to us while we were there. And those cookies were delish. They have a good variety of styles on draft, but I opted for the BA Barleywine, which was excellent. They also had the football games playing on the TV there so there was that sports bar aspect without being to crowded/ crazy. This place is located in an industrial area of Salinas. We didn't have a problem at all finding parking. Love their beers and love this spot. I would definitely hit it up more if I was able.
