What is supposed to be the "friendliest stores in town" has a night manager that makes mildly threatening store closing announcements starting 15-20 before closing every 5 minutes warning you that you won't be able to check out if you're not actively checking out (even self checkout) if not done before 10pm. If you walk in during the last 15 minutes prepare for the stare down like you just walked into a restaurant and sat down before closing even if you are grabbing a few things. I shopped at the Des Peres location for about 30 years and although they have similar closing announcements, the message was a softer. I don't ever remember hearing at any store that you won't be able to check out, even Walmart, I could be wrong, but I've never noticed it and I tend to be a late night shopper. I have worked in both retail management and sales, and I would always welcome a customer in for a sale even after closing hours for a couple reasons 1. We are both already there. 2. Stores are in business to make money and move product. 3. As a courtesy to develop loyal customers and as part of customer oriented service 4. It's not illegal. Sometimes there are ordinance laws but I'm referring to extra minutes not hours. 5. After scheduled closing time, stores can go ahead and start the cleaning and re-stocking process with any few remaining customers present, which is just better than kicking them out.
