This park has a walking trail that is paved and stroller friendly, and a couple of playgrounds intersect this on either side. Looks like one playground also contains a splash pad, but this was closed off when we went. Not sure if because it was still early in the season or if it's still shut down due to the pandemic. On the other side of the parking lot is a unique outside gym area with several pieces of equipment. Elliptical, stepper, pull-up bars, resistance trainers, and signage accompanying with instructions. This is under a canopy and looks well maintained. Adjacent to this is also a court area for playing horseshoes and pétanque. They also host a friendly and free pétanque league here! I had to look up what pétanque was, and seems like it's very similar to bocce ball. I might join up this summer! They gather on Sunday afternoons.

Despite coming across more than one of these irresponsible owners, more than once or twice, they just kept letting their large dogs off leash as soon as they felt they were out of sight! The park isn't huge, so it's easy to keep coming across people. If I come again and this happens, I'll be calling animal control. It's not right to make people anxious simply because you don't feel like following the rules.

My daughter enjoyed playing in the water, resting to eat treats, and running around the playground afterward when she could dry off and warm up a little. The playground has a spongy mat that I appreciated, considering a trip and fall would be especially devastating otherwise. I'm glad this was thought through!

There's the upper loop walking path which is quiet, peaceful, and scenic. You can get your exercise in or find a bench and soak up some rays. It's especially beautiful during the fall foliage! I also love the pond with the fountain and ducks, and they allow for fishing as well. And of course there's the historic tree! They were renovating the deck this most recent time we went, but normally you can stand inside the hollow of the tree. Such an amazing sight to behold! There's also picnic tables and a nice playground structure for the kids. My only complaint is the playground is fully baked in the sun. It could benefit from a canopy overhead for some shade so the equipment doesn't get blazing hot.

Their church emerged from the Hussite movement, which predated Martin Luther's Reformation by over 50 years. This park honors a long heritage, that laid the foundation that predates both Winston and Salem, now Winston-Salem. This public park hosts several festivals a year. And it hosts outdoors summer concerts that can be held under a open air shelter. Great for families and peoples or all ages and their pets. Nice and flat for strolling. The grounds houses structures and reconstructed structures from the original settlement back to 1753. Several of the structures house demonstrations for the living skills needed back then: food production, black smithing, etc. A modern welcome center has a model reproduction of the center and is a sort of mini museum. The staff are knowledgeable and happy to educate. There are presentations in the center on the history. Nice bathrooms are there also. And a limited # items are available for purchase and I believe funds go to support the park. The main old structure is a house of worship with an organ that dates from very early on. Consider HISTORIC BETHABARA a quicker trip that to say WILLAMSBURG in VA (granted that is larger and more historically important on a National Level) but nonetheless a way to take a quick step back in time. Also consider OLD SALEM a little to the south in Winston-Salem. Another MORIAVIAN SETTLEMENT (really a follow on, since BETHABARA was meant to be temporary whilst SALEM was planned to be permanent). More along the lines of a mini-WILLAMSBURG. With a reopened TAVERN restaurant. And historical sites and demonstrations to experience. And SALEM is the home to the 1st ever official 4TH OF JULY celebration in the Nation. And back to HISTORIC BETHABARA, take a stroll through the vegetable garden housing genetically same fruits and vegetables that were grown back in the 1700's. Salem also has the same type of gardens.

The grounds are beautiful and the walking trails go much further than I had anticipated. There is also a creek in one section of the park, which is a peaceful place to cool off on a summer day and also a great place for kids to explore freely. I have not personally been to one of their festivals but have heard nothing but good things in regards to them. Overall this is a great FREE place to visit. Friendly staff and clean bathrooms!
