This place is probably one of the healthier choices if you're staying in the Houston Medical District. It is located in a very quiet street right next to subway, which I would consider a strict competitor. However, they stand on their own because most of their items appear to be fresh. I did not order a salad from this place, but I got several side items and their soup. Food items, I like getting a combination of their pesto chicken and quinoa. The savory taste of the pesto balances the bland taste of the quinoa. What better than going healthy! I highly recommend their Tomato Basil Soup. It's not the world's best tomato soup, but it is higher up in the ranks compared to other fast food joints in the area. One of my favorite things to snack on are falafels. Here, I do not recommend it! I ordered it once and it tasted stale. The service here is great. The lady who works behind the counter is very patient and polite. In the area, Chipotle, Starbucks, Go Fish, and Subway...the servers are rude. Overall, their prices are very reasonable, I typically get the items I want for only $10 or less. Came in for lunch to this location I was able to get in and out pretty fast. However it was 11 am too. This location I was disappointed with starting with the customer service. They just weren't as friendly as the location off I-10 and Hwy 6. They were also stingy with the toppings. I had to ask for extra on a couple of items. Then they were forgetting to give me my bread. I had to remind them to give it to me. I don't know if they charge extra at the other location for extra dressing. I probably wouldn't have asked for more if they would have added enough. The salad was great, but I did find a few piece of the spring mix old looking. Realistically you cannot eat there at that location its more for to-go because of how small it is on the inside. Also you are looking at a bill of $13 without drink. However they do offer a $1 off for the Medical center employees on specific days for the hospital employees with a work badge. This place is a godsend. I love this chain, please install a franchise in every hotel conference center in America, k thx. I don't know why my colleagues see every business trip as some sort of challenge to eat the greasiest crap imaginable, but personally when I am jet lagged, working crazy hours, and deprived of my own kitchen, I just want some damn vegetables. All the ingredients here are fresh and delicious, the selection is fantastic, and everything is completely customizable to every imaginable dietary restriction. I ordered takeout here online while staying at the Westin. I was concerned reading so many reviews where people are complaining about anything and everything. I didn't really have any staff interaction as I placed my order online. That said, they have to go orders in a little cubby near the front door. When I saw the area and found my bag, I looked over at the counter and the employee working, making another customers food, looked over and smiled and waived. That's nice enough for me. When I got to my room, my salad was what I had ordered and had all the correct toppings. My only real gripe is the price point for the portion. The salad tasted just fine but you can get a much, much larger salad with enough toppings that you actually get a topping in every bite at somewhere like MOD. The only other gripe is just personal preference in that the dressing was on the side. I'm well aware that it's for the integrity of the dish but in the type/size to go container they give you, it's practically impossible to properly coat the entire salad with dressing. I know, I know. I've been here at least 6 times and the shrimp salads still disappoint me. It's always tails left on. The cucumber slices have a funny taste like it's not clean. The chicken is decent. The staff is nice which is why I have two stars but if I can't come for shrimp salad I should just stop coming. I am so glad there is a Salata in the med center. Sometimes the salad bars in the hospitals are a little wimpy and I get tired of their selections. That's when a trip to Salata is necessary! This location is not my favorite of the chain because of the small size and lack of seating, but it does the best for the space and it still offers everything that bigger locations do. Any vegetable or any other thing you could want in a salad can be found here for 1 standard price for the size of the bowl you select (none of that pay by weight business you find in the local hospital cafeterias). Which is awesome because I get EVERYTHING. Meat is extra. I have never encountered a rude employee, which is amazing to me because this place gets cray. Plan to wait in a long line if you go between 11:30 and 1 during the main lunch rush. If you show your metro rail pass, you can get $1 off. If you work in one of the hospitals, each institution gets a $1 discount on a different day of the week if you show your badge. This might be inaccurate but I think methodist is Tuesday, UT is Wednesday, and I think Memorial Hermann is Friday? Plan on taking your lunch back to work with you. A welcome addition to the medical center....Salata offers big mongo salads, wraps and soups for those of us on the go and itching to get back to the hospital. Forget about driving to this location. You're better off taking the train to Dryden Station. This Salata location is pretty minimal/basic. I guess it's because it's really just made for us in the medical center to order and get on with it. Overall, I like this place. It's a bit pricey though and the salads are way too big. I think of salad and I think light. After eating lunch here, you better undo your buckle and do some power walking. Tip to Salata: How about a half-size salad option?? Also, can you think about expanding your drink selection?? Vitamin water is not a great pairing with salad or a wrap in my opinion. I do like the soups there. I feel because there aren't many food options in the Texas Medical Center besides the hospital cafeterias, this particular Salata really takes advantage of that fact. They skimp out on the lettuce, toppings, and protein. At first I asked for romaine and spring mix, but then changed my mind and asked for some spinach so the server took some of the other lettuce out. Then they only gave me a sprinkling of toppings, I only asked for 6 toppings, it's not like I asked for ALL the toppings. I picked shrimp as my protein and I think they actually count how much shrimp they have to put in. The server put in 2-3 shrimps in at a time and then had to put some back. I usually can't even finish a full salad at Central Market, but I usually leave hungry at this Salata. The servers here aren't the nicest people, they rushed my coworkers through the line and barked at them when they asked for extra chicken. read more

The entire restaurant can be seen from the door; look through the window and it's just a narrow hallway which basically only has room for the line. This is the Chipotle of salad bars. Basically you pick your bed of greens. And then on that, I believe all the vegetables are free. So toppings like: corn, cucumber, sprouts, onion, mushrooms. etc. Pretty much all that you would expect to be available for a salad. Then you can add chicken as a protein, or pay a bit extra for salmon or shrimp. You can also pay for extras like avocado (why not??). Once you pick a dressing, they toss it for you and pack it for you to go. Some things about this location: - Overall, it was clean and the ingredients have always been fresh. - It's a small space, so they don't really have any seating - Because it serves the entire Medical Center, it gets super crowded during lunch. However, they do a good job getting people their food relatively quick. - Each day of the week, they offer discounts to each of the different hospital employees in the Med Center. read more

This is the medical center's newest restaurant. It's at street level near Dryden metro rail station. I checked it out because I am a grad student in a nearby lab and I often eat in the area. My salad was really good - really big and with lots of toppings. They have a large selection of salad toppings which is the most impressive thing about this restaurant. My problem was that the salads cost $8 each which is more than I usually spend on lunch. If they had a smaller portion in the $5 to $7 range, I'd be more likely to eat there more often. If you want to add a meat to your salad, you have to add $2 to $3 making it a total of $10 to $12 for a single salad. I thought my salad was great, but it's not the best place for a poor grad student like me, I guess. Another potential issue with this place is they don't seem to have seating - it's to go only. That's not a problem because you can probably find a seat outside Chipotle next door (I doubt anybody would bother you if it's not crowded) or in front of the Rice BRC building around the corner. Or you could just go back to your desk and eat like I did. EDIT: I noticed that they recently added tables and chairs on the sidewalk in front of the restaurant, so now it at least has outdoor seating. read more

ok, so this is super close to my job. my only real issue is the cramped, narrow space of this location. did you not expect to be bum-rushed smack dab in the middle of the entire medical center? the line inside reminds me of an intestinal tract (lol); rather than a line out coming in, literally people make a snake lines (lol). it is so cramped inside that i do not see how anyone could actually sit and enjoy their meal. they have like 4-6 chairs up against a way for seating, but you should see how the line forms intricately so noone stands outside! problem1: none of the veggie, cheese, nut or fruit toppings are marked. there are SO many people in line, you can't even comfortably ask all the questions going on in your head. Please label items to make it easier on newcomers! problem2: it seems as though whoever cut your veggies has done them in a hurry because the tomatoes and cucumbers are these ungodly huge chunks! problem3: if your bowl of item is near empty (like you have 1/8 left), please refill it; don't stand there & wait for it to completely be used, push the person off on an insane small amount and THEN proceed to refill. ok, other than these issues, I have actually enjoyed my little salads; the chicken has always been seasoned, flavorful and tender when I've gone. everything is tasty and even better each time because you choose your poison, lol. i really like the ginger lime dressing they have and wish i had a bottle at home. read more

The Medical Center Salata is hands down the best and so awesome. Megan the General Manager is super friendly, kind and sweet. When ever I need a delivery quick Megan to the rescue. She has never disappointed us . The Salad Bar is our go to lunch meal in the Neurosurgery Dept. On Tuesday,6/29/21 I called Salata and Megan assisted me in placing a phone catering order.. this is usually done on line. I was out of the office and I need to place an order quickly. Megan graciously took my order and delivered the order personally and she even set the table up. The food was so fresh and extremely delicious as always. The staff complimented on how nice the presentation of the food look. Megan Thank you so much for taking care of us always and Salata we love the Salad Bar.. Never change one thing. I have also visited the Med Center Salata on my own for my personal lunch via on line ordering and in-store pick up. The store is clean well kept. The staff is super friendly and fast. Pros: I love the salad. Lots of vegetables and fruit toppings to choose from. Takes credit cards. Cons: minus a star for customer service. Minus a star because of the inconvenient parking situation. Minus a star because I order ahead, but still have to wait. I have never had a good customer service experience here. My online order has never, not a single time, ever been ready when I arrive (well after promised time). In most instances, the employees don't start preparing it till after I arrive. Then they usually squint at the screen, clicking random buttons here and there, print out receipt, and scramble. Worse, even though I place my order ahead of time, I still have to go through the actual line! This would not be a problem, except that this is the Medical Center! Most people who eat here are probably busy medical professionals with incredibly short lunch breaks. It takes a long time to move be through the line; this is due to the fact that all the employees appear to prefer speaking Spanish instead of English. They take the time to chat up any Spanish speaking person in line. Heaven forbid that the person in front of me is a Spanish speaking person with kids. Each child has to be complimented and spoken to profusely. Once, it took me 30 minutes to pick up my order even though there was only one person in front of me. Spanish speaker, 5 kids. I'm sure that there are other Salatas that are great, but this one was unfortunately the first one I visited, and it was disappointing even though I didn't have high expectations to begin with. The regular salad I got was a whopping $8 with no meat! That would have been okay if they gave me a lot of food, but they were pretty skimpy with the leaves and other toppings they gave me. In the end, my to-go box (you have to get it to-go) was barely filled. They also drenched my salad with a huge ladle of dressing (herb vinaigrette, which was tasty but just too much). If I ever go to Salata again, I'll definitely ask for dressing on the side. When I came, they also ran out of a lot of toppings that weren't replaced. Boo :(. It's a very small shop, without any indoor seating. The way it works is that you either pick a small bowl or a big bowl, and you can put anything you want in it (including tofu, fruits, and other salad ingredients). As for meats, they had chicken and salmon. I had an overall really good experience, the staff were super nice. They had me taste all their soups before I decide which one I wanted to get. The salad was pretty good (since it was customized), and I really liked their tomato basil soup. I was also a fan of their honey mustard dressing. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for something quick and healthy in the med center. read more

Came here for lunch one day and the place was packed. Luckily we seemed to have gotten here RIGHT before it got really busy so it didn't take too long to order and leave. I ordered a wrap with romaine heart and kale and other assorted veggies and spicy chipotle chicken and I have to say that it was delicious and I particularly liked the great selection of things that you can put into your wrap or salad. The bad is that for one, this place is pretty pricey for a "chipotle-like" experience. I spent around $9 for a wrap that barely filled me up. The service was also rather mediocre as it felt very rushed and the servers seemed to only care about getting people through the lines as quickly as possible. Am staying at the Marriott (3/23/15-6/30/15). I go once a week. I love salads and wraps and their food is so pretty and fresh. I try to get something different but I find I'm a creature of habit. Staff is sweet. Wrap and a water costs $11 with $1 off if you have a Q card. They also do daily $1 off discounts for surrounding hospitals. I've had both salad and wraps. Love them. Order was sooo wrong. And they gave us a extra salad which in most scenarios that would be a plus. This is not that they left the meat out of both salads I originally ordered when mentioned they put one meat in a cup. No utensils, wrong dressings, super small portions( not being dramatic my salad only had five thinly sliced cucumbers). Very upsetting because when I mentioned the missing meats they put one a cup and assured me the order was right and said I guess you get a free salad. Remember me saying in most scenarios it would be a plus to get a free anything not today cause I had to pick the meat from that free salad to put on the salad that they were supposed to put in the cup. The free salad had to be someone else order cause it had nothing to do with my order. And also when the order was being checked she answered a personal call and assured me the order was correct.
