Having tried many of the Thai restaurants in Leeds it seemed to make sense that my boyfriend and I try this place, since it is quite near to us and we wished to visit somewhere new to us. A short autumnal walk and we made it to the opulent building, a huge Victorian style structure, which mysteriously appears to become smaller when you enter. It doesn't, obviously, but I'm curious to know what else is situated in here - flats, other businesses? Who knows.
The inner décor is lovely, not so fancy that you feel under dressed in casual clothing, but smart enough to allow you to spruce up for a Friday night's dining. There's a beautiful water feature, and although some areas could use a lick of paint, the way they have captured both homely and classy is pretty unique.
Our service throughout was friendly and helpful, so we were off to a great start. As we'd worked up quite an appetite we both went for soup starters, mine being the Tom Kha (I think, the coconut sour spicy variety) and his was something a little more savoury with little parcels inside. He'd asked for chicken, but was in fact given prawns - thankfully this wasn't an issue for us although I realise for someone with seafood allergies this could be a little more worrying! Mine was literally packed with chicken, so much I had to leave a little in case I became too full, so it was really pleasing. Both were packed with flavour and very satisfying.
For our main meals he opted for the Pad Thai noodles and a stir fried beef dish, which was perfectly suited, hearty and lovely and savoury. I opted for my usual Gang Kiew Wan and had beef also. It was a huge portion, with coconut rice (perfect accompaniment) and again I had to leave some on the plate as I was perfectly stuffed. I noticed other tables were taking left overs home with them, a common practice I assume, so if you've a large appetite this would be the place to go!
Everything was cooked very well and full of flavour, so we were both really pleased. For two courses and drinks it was £30 well spent too - not bad if you ask me! In terms of setting, satisfaction and sumptuous food all three were very pleasing so I'm an all round fan and shall come again. We waited a moderate amount of time before our food, which we expected, and since we didn't require a booking for two it was lovely to walk in and be seated straight away too.
I'm a fan! read more
